Brock Lesnar may have officially announced his retirement from professional wrestling, but a new backstage report suggests WWE isn’t convinced fans have seen the last of “The Beast.”
Lesnar has confirmed that his in-ring career is over following his loss to Oba Femi inside Hell in a Cell at SummerSlam 2026. The 49-year-old described the bout as the perfect ending to his legendary career and said he’s now focused on family life and supporting his children’s athletic pursuits.
Veteran journalist Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated that WWE had always planned for Lesnar’s retirement to take place following SummerSlam 2026.
While Meltzer acknowledged that Lesnar’s retirement appears genuine, he also noted that retirement announcements in professional wrestling have a long history of being temporary, particularly for major stars.
Last year I was told that Brock Lesnar was retiring on this show (SummerSlam) and when he did the retirement the first time (WrestleMania 42) we were told he was doing a multi-match series with Femi. It’s a pro wrestler retirement, so even if he is sincere on the day, it’s still a pro wrestler retirement
Lesnar’s final match came in his home state of Minnesota, where he once again faced Oba Femi. After suffering defeat inside Hell in a Cell, Lesnar embraced Femi and publicly endorsed him as WWE’s future.
For now, Lesnar insists he’s retired. However, the door may not be completely closed on one of the most decorated careers in company history.
