Conrad Thompson's Intercontinental Title Belt Sells For $716,750

Conrad Thompson's WrestleMania III Intercontinental Championship belt sold for $716,750 at Heritage Auctions, far above Hogan's WrestleMania 2 title belt.

Conrad Thompson’s WrestleMania III Intercontinental Championship belt sold for $716,750 at Heritage Auctions. The total includes Heritage’s 22 percent buyer’s premium on a final bid of $587,500.

The price lands well above the $414,800 Hulk Hogan’s WrestleMania 2 title belt brought in August, clearing it by roughly $300,000. Hogan’s WrestleMania I boots, which became the first wrestling collectible to top $1 million at $1,037,000 earlier this year, remain out of reach.

Heritage listed the belt as lot 81948 in its Fall Sports Catalog Auction, with bidding set to close Oct. 24. It was used from September 1985 until January 1988 and passed through four Hall of Famers: Tito Santana, Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat and the Honky Tonk Man. Steamboat beat Savage for the title with it at WrestleMania III on March 29, 1987, a match Heritage’s listing calls the evening’s masterpiece. We covered the listing when the auction opened.

Thompson has owned the belt since 2020. He told Brass Ring Media that Vince McMahon wanted to honor Pat Patterson on SmackDown with a match for the very first Intercontinental title, only for WWE to realize it didn’t own that belt. Thompson, who did, asked for the WrestleMania III belt in return, and Savage’s belt was shipped to him.

Thompson had said before the sale that he wanted to set a record. The final total cleared the Hogan belt by a wide margin.
