CM Punk is not in trouble.
Rumors about the former World Champion’s unexplained absence from WWE TV picked up steam earlier this week. The claim that gained traction through an unverified Twitter thread was that Punk had politicked for something around the time for WrestleMania 42 and he had been kept off TV after getting heat for it.
Fightful Select, which previously pushed back on the report of WWE having no creative plan for the Straight Edge Star, has provided some more update on the matter. They explained that even with a couple of months removed from Mania, nobody in the company has heard about any incidents involving CM Punk that could result in disciplinary action:
Nobody in WWE among the dozens we spoke to has heard that Punk wanted out of his contract, and none of the talent we heard from believed that he was asked to take a pay cut, and had not heard that either. One WWE source we spoke to says that CM Punk has a story coming up soon, and he’s not been off WWE TV for any disciplinary reasons.
The site also confirmed that AJ Lee’s recent run was well planned in advance. There is no truth to rumors of change to her story after the WrestlePaolooza return last year, and the former IC Champion concluded her run with the company like she was expected to. As of now, there are no plans for the wrestling veteran’s return to TV.
Regarding the potential of Punk’s AEW return, there are people within the company who believe that the bridges he burnt on his way out will eventually be rebuilt. While Punk is not expected to make amends with everyone he got into trouble with during his run with the promotion, some still maintain the ‘never say never’ attitude regarding his potential return to the company sometime down the line.
