A New Day reference on NXT.
Last week’s episode of the development show ended in a big brawl after Cruz Montana, EK Prosper, Keanu Carver, Mason Rook, Saquon Shugars, and Tony D’Angelo all made their claim over the NXT Championship held by Grayson Waller.
The segment led to the main event for tonight’s show, where Montana, Prosper, and Carver teamed up to take on Rook, Shugars, and D’Angelo in a match. With Waller joining the commentary for this match, Vic Joseph couldn’t help but make a reference about his former tag team partners:
Look, Grayson, it’s a new day for you in some retrospects. First singles title. How are you now going to, well, take your game to a new level so to speak?

In response, Waller mentioned that he was a tag team champion before, but being singles champion is different and he is hungrier than ever.
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, formerly known as New Day in WWE, made their AEW debut at last month’s All In PPV. Now dubbed as the New Level, they went on to win the Trios Title with Swerve Strickland in their first bout for the company.
The ending of tonight’s main event saw Rook pick up the victory for his team by pinning EK Prosper. According to the stipulation for the tag team bout, Mason Rook, Saquon Shugars, and Tony D’Angelo will now face each other in a triple threat match next week to determine the new #1 contender for the NXT title.
