Grayson Waller is not soft.
The new NXT Champion had a heated confrontation with CM Punk recently when The Straight Edge Star made a rare appearance at the August 15 NXT house show. Waller confronted Punk after his match, telling the Straight Edge Star that NXT was his house and that he was not a fan.
The Australian star was asked if this was his only interaction with the reigning WWE Champion and what he thinks about his return and redemption story in WWE during his recent interview with Rosenberg Wrestling. Grayson Waller first gave CM Punk his props, saying that everything we’ve heard about the wrestling veteran since his WWE return is true:
We’ve had a lot of interactions, and the one thing I’ll say about [CM] Punk is everything you see about him coming back and being this guy who, you know, cares and wants to help, it’s all true. I’ve seen it, and I’ve seen the times when it’s not filmed, you know, when there’s no one around, and he’s upstairs at NXT watching tape with some new kids.
That’s Not The Punk I Want: Grayson Waller
Though the NXT Champion also said that this is not the Punk he wants. Grayson Waller explained that he wants to test himself against the Punk he grew up watching, and not the current version which has gone soft:
I understand that he’s doing some great things for the next generation. For me personally, that’s not the Punk I want. That’s not the Punk I grew up watching. That’s not the Punk that like made me want to get into wrestling and wanted me to grab a mic.
This new Punk is like, it’s soft, and I just think he’s very lucky because the new guys who’ve come up against him have just had their tail between their legs. They’ve been so soft. Grayson Waller ain’t soft.
The latest episode of NXT featured a main event with NXT title implications and a reference to Waller’s old partners The New Day. You can check out more about it here.
