Nick Aldis has relinquished his position.
The Saturday Night’s Main Event last week saw the SmackDown General Manager costing Gunther and Sami Zayn their tag team match against CM Punk and Cody Rhodes. Triple H then announced during the SummerSlam kickoff that the WWE Authority Figure will face the Ring General at the upcoming PPV.
This Friday’s episode of SmackDown thus featured a contract signing between the two SummerSlam competitors, mediated by Adam Pearce. The Raw General Manager explained that Aldis will be stepping back from his position on SmackDown if he signs the deal and Pearce will take over the duties on the Blue Brand as well.
Nick Aldis went on to sign the contract and the segment turned into a brawl. Adam Pearce got thrown aside while trying to make peace, and Gunther then put Aldis through the table to round things up. Wade Barrett on commentary later explained that Nick was only relinquishing his position temporarily to face the former world champion.
Adam Pearce tried to check on Nick Aldis backstage after the attack but he was held up by Sami Zayn. This led to Pearce finally giving Sami a match at the SummerSlam PPV. You can check out more about it here.
