Ronda Rousey Explains Remarks About Wrestling Being ‘Fake’

0

Ronda Rousey has explained her remarks about pro wrestling being fake, saying that its predetermined nature makes the sport a lot less stressful. The former UFC star recently appeared on The Kurt Angle Show. She first claimed that she is not afraid of injuries because they happen in every sport.

Rousey then mentioned how people got offended by her remarks. She explained that it’s not the physicality that makes something real:

“I don’t think pro wrestlers understand how much that it helps because a lot of times I’ll hear people be so offended that like, ‘How dare you call this fake! There’s no fake way to go through a table,’ or ‘This injury is real.’ And I’m like, ‘You guys, it’s not like the physical toll that makes something real.'”

‘It The Anxiety And Uncertainty Of The Result’: Ronda Rousey

Reflecting on her time in the MMA world, Ronda Rousey claimed that the uncertainty of the result makes the situation real:

“The injuries don’t enter into your mind, It’s the anxiety and uncertainty of the result,” that makes the situation real, as opposed to the predetermined outcome of a pro-wrestling match.”

Ronda then gave an example using Kurt Angle. She asked the Olympic Gold Medallist what he would have done if he hadn’t won the medal. She said that the uncertain outcome is what makes things real for her.

Watch: The Rock Gifts New Home To WWE Star

0

The Rock has done it again.

The Great One is known for being very generous with his gifts. He has gifted new vehicles among other things to people in his life. Though this time he has gone even a step further than that, and The Rock has gifted a brand-new home to his cousin and current WWE star Tamina Snuka.

The former WWE champion shared a video of this moment on his Instagram. He mentioned how he has known Snuka since childhood. The Hollywood star also wrote a touching caption in which he described how Tamina has gone through many hardships in life but has always faced any problems with determination:

“I’ve known my cousin Sarona since we were little kids growing up together. Man this girl’s gone thru some tough times, but regardless of what life’s thrown her way – she was ALWAYS determined to break the cycle and become a strong and inspiring single mom example to her two greatest inspirations — her daughters, Milaneta & Maleata.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce4xTBIFKsI/?hl=en

Tamina made her wrestling debut back in 2009 and she joined WWE in 2010. She made her main roster debut alongside The Usos when they attacked the Hart Dynasty. The female star has been a featured member of the roster ever since. Snuka has won the 24/7 championship and the women’s tag team titles during her run, but she has never held the women’s world title.

Law Firm Investigating WWE Directors And Officers Amid Allegations

It didn’t take long for a law firm to have its own investigation of WWE.

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that the board of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc is investigating an alleged $3 million pact made by Vince McMahon to a former employee. Vince allegedly had an affair with the ex-employee and paid her to keep quiet.

The report also noted that McMahon allegedly passed the former WWE worker onto Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis “like a toy.” The woman was said to have initially made a salary of $100,000 but it was supposedly bumped up to $200,000 after having sexual relations with McMahon.

Scott+Scott Attorneys at Law LLP Opens Investigation

In a press release sent to Business Wire, Scott+Scott Attorneys at Law LLP announced an investigation into WWE directors and officers for breach of fiduciary duties.

“NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Scott+Scott Attorneys at Law LLP (“Scott+Scott”), a national securities and consumer rights litigation firm, is investigating whether certain directors and officers of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (“WWE”) (NYSE: WWE) breached their fiduciary duties to WWE and its shareholders. If you are a WWE shareholder, you are encouraged to contact attorney Joe Pettigrew for additional information at (844) 818-6982, or [email protected].

“Scott+Scott is investigating whether members of WWE’s board of directors or senior management failed to manage WWE in an acceptable manner, in breach of their fiduciary duties to WWE, and whether WWE and its shareholders have suffered damages as a result.

“On June 15, 2022, the Wall Street Journal reported that the WWE board was investigating an alleged $3 million settlement that CEO Vince McMahon agreed to pay in January 2022 to a former WWE employee with whom he allegedly had an affair.

“What You Can Do

“If you are a WWE shareholder, you may have legal claims against WWE’s directors and officers. If you wish to discuss this investigation, or have questions about this notice or your legal rights, please contact attorney Joe Pettigrew toll-free at (844) 818-6982 or [email protected].”

Time will tell what exactly is going to be the fallout of this. There are some who feel Vince McMahon is bulletproof, while others believe this is a real threat to his power in WWE.

There is a strong universal belief, however, that John Laurinaitis’ job could be in jeopardy.

Can Rising WWE Superstar Dethrone Roman Reigns?

One superstar on the WWE SmackDown roster believes he has what it takes to defeat Roman Reigns.

The “Tribal Chief” is the reigning WWE Undisputed Universal Champion. He was promoted to undisputed status after defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38. Going into that match, Reigns was the Universal Champion, while Lesnar was the WWE Champion.

Reigns has long dominated the main event scene but could his time be running out?

“Why Not Madcap?”

During an appearance on KFAN 100.3’s Power Trip Morning Show After Party Podcast, Madcap Moss expressed his belief that he can be the one to take the undisputed gold from Roman Reigns in due time.

“Then, you know, this one at this point may seem like a bit of a stretch to some people. Because the guy’s just an absolute all-time run right now. But I’d love to get a shot at Roman Reigns.

“I mean, he is the pinnacle of the business right now. He likes to say he’s in God mode, and it’s hard to disagree with him. God meaning ‘Greatness On a Different Level.’ I mean, it’s just unbelievable what he’s done over the past 8-10 years, but specifically in the last few.

“He’s really just been untouchable in every aspect of the business. But I think that someone needs to eventually dethrone the guy I look at myself and I say, ‘Why not Madcap?’ So, I got my work cut out for me.

“I got a ways to go before I get there.”

Madcap recently dropped the suspenders and the bad joke gimmick in favor of a more serious attitude. He is now a babyface and some within WWE believe he could make some waves.

Get to Know: the Wrestling Winedown Podcast

0

Our Get to Know Series is back to bring you a special conversation with the host of the Wrestling Winedown Podcast, Lo.

It can be challenging for up-and-coming content creators to stand out from others to find success. In the wrestling podcasts community, people may share their opinions or review weekly what happened on shows from WWE or AEW. However, other podcasts like Wrestling Winedown try to give fans a different alternative.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CcS9zSVFTb_/

Created and led by Lo, Wrestling Winedown has become a successful brand that likes to discuss deeper topics of professional wrestling relevant to current wrestling news. Lo also supports and collaborates with other talented creators to share their stories or experiences in wrestling. This has created unique content that wrestling fans may not get from other creators.

I recently had the chance to speak with Lo about the success of her podcast. Here’s the video of our discussion, followed by written highlights.

How did Wrestling Winedown Begin?

It’s been three years since the start of the Wrestling Winedown podcast. The creation began while Lo was still attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, for Journalism. Her friend Hayleigh liked wrestling and wanted to get into podcasting. Talking about wrestling intrigued Lo, especially when a female wrestling podcast was still uncommon.

“…I started looking, doing some research, and I noticed that it was mostly men doing wrestling podcasts, so there weren’t a lot of female options out there, and that was one striving reason as to why we started it,” said Lo. She continued,”…We wanted to have that girl talk. Be in the week girl friend chat about professional wrestling. So we started thinking and I’m like we need to incorporate something else. My friend loves beer and I was like, I’m not really a beer drinker, I don’t know about that and I was like what about wine.

Wrestling Winedown had its first podcast on Apr. 13, 2019. Hayleigh eventually stepped away from the podcast, and Lo changed the format to what it is today. The growth of the female-founded brand has led to great opportunities in wrestling and could possibly inspire other female wrestling fans to get into podcasting.

Discussing Serious Topics in Wrestling

One thing that separates Wrestling Winedown from other podcasts is the approach to discussing serious topics in wrestling like diversity and representation. Lo organizes and moderates a panel of different content creators to have constructive and informative discussions. It’s also done in a way that looks at past issues in wrestling and how it relates today.

“…There is a lot going on within professional wrestling and I think a lot of people they get scared to talk about certain stuff because they don’t want people to look negatively at it or they don’t want to start an argument on the timeline,” said Lo. She continued, “…We come fact base. We are not just saying stuff to say stuff, but we also encourage people to share their thoughts because it is important that even though you have knowledge whether it’s institutional knowledge or you gained it on your own.”

Outside of the panel episodes, Lo also reviews wrestling events and does interviews with wrestling-related content creators that fans enjoy. She enjoys having conversations about wrestling but isn’t afraid to speak on topics that others may shy away from.

What’s Next for Wrestling Winedown?

The podcast will be going through a rebrand in its third year of creation. Now that Lo is leading the brand, she hopes to shape Wrestling Winedown more into her vision. She also has added Wrestfriends Iridian Fierro to the team as an assistant on social media, and she will be more involved in future projects.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CdTUIkNLUZf/

Lo has also started a new series for Wrestling Winedown called “The Life of a Wrestling Fan.” She will be interviewing successful people that are not involved in wrestling but that happen to be big wrestling fans. She recently interviewed a former MTV, VH1, and Nickelodeon executive Andria Parides in her first episode. Lo revealed that she already has several interviews planned and will be releasing them soon. When discussing the idea behind the new series, Lo expressed that she created the concept to bridge the gap between wrestling and people from other job fields.

“…There are so many amazing wrestling fans who are doing stuff offline that is great for the community or their career, and we don’t know because we are not talking about online. We are focused on what’s going on RAW or AEW that we are not sharing Hey, I did this at work, or I made this impact in my community, or I’m working at the Met Gala. There are so many amazing things that wrestling fans are doing that needs to be brought to the forefront along with being a wrestling fan,” said Lo. She revealed that several interviews are already planned and will be released at a later date.

The future of Wrestling Winedown looks promising as the brand continues to thrive. Possibly, a wine sponsorship is on the horizon as well.

Big Swole On Is It Too Late For An Apology from Tony Khan

0

Speaking to Steve Fall from NBC Sports Boston, Big Swole opened up about her feelings on a controversial tweet from Tony Khan.

Screen Shot 2021 12 31 at 4.25.58 PM 565x365 1

Big Swole was asked if its too late for an apology.

“I don’t think it’s never too late to forgive someone and to you know say speak your piece and speak you’re wrong and stuff like that like it’s never too late for that. I don’t ever want to close the door on something like that because that affects my healing that affects my heart you know as much as it could affect someone else so if you were to call me like a year from now and apologize hey you know whenever you know it’s set on his heart to do so then so be it, but if it’s not then that’s okay as well I’m literally like Pontius Pilate I wash my hands of it because I know my truth and I’m standing in it.”

Pat McAfee On Vince McMahon Allegations: ‘I Don’t Know Sh**, It Sounds Problematic’

0

WWE SmackDown commentator Pat McAfee gave his thoughts on the situation involving Vince McMahon after the Wall Street Journal published a report on Wednesday stating the WWE board of directors is investigating McMahon regarding a secret $3 million settlement regarding an alleged affair.

The investigation began in April when other nondisclosure agreements involving claims by former female WWE employees of misconduct by McMahon and John Laurinaitis.

McAfee reacted to the news on his radio show on Thursday.

“Yesterday, the WWE, I know less than everybody else. This is just me, I don’t know shit about fuck. I go in, do my thing, say hello to everybody, I’m out. I’m in, maybe the most awesome situation in the history of WWE for anybody. I’m a lifelong fan of the company, but I’m not part of anything. I’m part of no groups, I have no locker room. I literally bounce around, do my thing, and I’m out.

It’s designed to be that way, I think Michael Cole and everyone have set it up to be that way. ‘This is the best way for this to happen, let’s keep him out of everything. He comes in and does his thing.’ I’m very fortunate, lucky, and I love that job. Outside looking in, it’s like, [makes a curious face].

After watching Succession, anytime a board is trying to do something, it’s hard not to be like, ‘woah, woah, woah.’ Yesterday, on the Internet, there was a lot of ‘who is, what is.’ I’m going there tomorrow. I’m excited to hear the chatter. Obviously, what is being alleged is not fantastic at all, it’s terrible. There will be full investigations.”

https://twitter.com/GreatBashHeel/status/1537504539716222977

McAfee was asked why everything was coming out now. He noted that this came out of nowhere and there are going to be investigations about the investigations and those investigations will contradict other investigations.

He continued, “For a good 9-10 hours, it was just, ‘holy shit, I’m learning a lot about a lot of things.’ What’s real, what isnt? Who knows. Hopefully, I’ll find out at some point. Hopefully, we all will. Who knows how that whole thing will go. It sounds incredibly problematic.”

McAfee added that he was trending because of McMahon’s comments made on McAfee’s show during an interview in March, specifically when Vince referred to Linda as “my wife at the time.”

Von Erich Family Not Involved In Upcoming Zac Efron-led Biopic (Exclusive)

0

The Von Erich family is one of the most iconic lineages in professional wrestling, with its origins dating back to 1953.

The Von Erichs have seen both highs and lows throughout their lives, so it’s only fitting that a biopic about the legendary family is set to be made.

‘The Iron Claw,’ named after Fritz Von Erich’s iconic finishing move, will see Zac Efron (Firestarter, The Greatest Showman) involved, but he’ll be working without the family.

No Involvement

SEScoops has learned that the surviving members of the legendary Von Erich family are not involved with the production of The Iron Claw.

Kevin Von Erich is the last surviving son of Fritz Von Erich. His sons, Marshall and Ross Von Erich, currently wrestle as a tag team for Major League Wrestling (MLW).

Even without the Von Erich’s involvement, the film will go ahead, produced and financed by A24 (Euphoria, Ramy.)

Sean Durkin (The Nest) is on board to direct.

A synopsis for the film is as follows:

“Based on the true story of the Von Erichs, the film follows the rise and fall of the Von Erich family, a dynasty of wrestlers who made a huge impact on the sport from the 1960s to the present day.”

Synopsis for The Iron Claw

The Von Erich Family tragedy

The Von Erich name began in wrestling when Fritz Von Erich entered the industry in the early 50s.

Fritz would have six children, almost all of whom would meet tragic ends.

Jack Adkinson Jr. died aged 6 after being shocked unconscious and drowning in a puddle, and David Von Erich died in 1984, which many believe was due to an overdose.

Kerry Von Erich, who would have a reign as WWF Intercontinental Champion, died via suicide in 1993, and his brother Mike would also end his own life four years later.

After the death of Mike, Chris Von Erich took his own life in 1991, leaving Kevin Von Erich as the only surviving son of Fritz.

The third generation of Von Erichs includes Lacey Von Erich, who wrestled for TNA Wrestling and retired in 2010, and Ross and Marshall Von Erich, who compete to this day for MLW.

Update on Sasha Banks-WWE Situation, Lawyers Involved

0

A report noted on Wednesday that Sasha Banks received her WWE release after being at odds with the company for a month. That has yet to be confirmed by anyone else, but her lawyers are said to be working on it.

Fightful noted that after speaking directly with Wrestling Inc’s Raj Giri, who broke the news, they were told that Banks’ lawyers were involved and there had been eyes on a physical WWE release. However, they couldn’t confirm a release has been made.

Andrew Zarian said on today’s Mat Men podcast, “I cannot confirm she’s been released. But, I did hear late last week that her attorneys were working on getting this done.”

As previously noted, Banks and Naomi walked out of the company on May 16th at a Raw event because they had a creative dispute with Vince McMahon regarding booking leading into Hell in a Cell that would’ve seen Banks vs. SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey and Naomi vs. Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair.

It was later announced the two were indefinitely suspended and stripped of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles as a result. Also, their merchandise was also removed from WWE Shop and their deals were put on hold.

It was reported that Naomi was negotiating for a new contract at the time of the walkout while Banks’ deal still has a lot of time left.

Mickie James Talks Slammiversary, Her Future In Wrestling, Allie Katch & More

0

Mickie James will be the special guest enforcer in IMPACT’s first ever Queen of the Mountain match this Sunday. The event takes place from Nashville, Tennessee and airs live on pay-per-view.

Ahead of this historic match, the former Knockouts Champion spoke with SEScoops correspondent Ella Jay about her future in wrestling, being the special guest enforcer, wrestling Allie Katch at GCW Spring Break, and more.

Watch Ella Jay’s interview with Mickie James:

Here are some highlights on what Mickie James said about:

Her Future In Wrestling:

“For the last couple of months since I’ve lost the [Knockouts] championship, I just kind of had a reset moment, honestly, because to be honest, I’ve done so much in the last year and a lot of it was not expected.

I just had to sit in a moment of gratitude to go like, wow, this has been a lot’. But then like what is? Because that’s the question I keep getting. ‘What’s next? What are you going to do next?’ I really I don’t know. Obviously my focus and my intention is always to help women’s wrestling and do more for women’s wrestling. But other than that, I’m like, ‘gosh, what else can I do?’ So it’s been crazy.”

Being the Special Guest Enforcer in the Queen of The Mountain Match at Slammiversary:

FVVosYRXsAEJz E?format=jpg&name=medium

“Slammiversary is like 20 years and when I remember when IMPACT first started and that was the birth of myself, a little Alexis Laree coming to the Fairgrounds and to kind of come home. And even a year ago, I came back to impact at Slammiversary because of the announcement of Empowerrr and all of these other things. And I think since that moment and moving forward between NWA and IMPACT, I’ve just been able to do so many amazing things and obviously it’s in Nashville is right down the road.

It’s back at the Fairgrounds where it all began, and it’s the first ever Queen of the Mountain match. That’s incredible. And I thought, Well, I’ve really wanted to be a part of it. I didn’t want to just insert myself in the matches, like be one of the competitors because all these girls have done so much to get to this moment. But I’d really like to have the best seat in the house, you know, and definitely watch it from in the thing and make sure there’s no shenanigans.”

Wrestling Allie Katch At GCW Spring Break

“I really, really like Allie Katch, and I think that she’s really presented herself and found her niche and her home there, which is GCW. But also she was over, she was super over there and it wasn’t just because obviously it was her hometown too, and it was cool for me to go into that environment because that was not my world and they were very open. I think that the crowd was really hot and excited, but they were very split in the match because they wanted Allie to win.”

“It was great, and she’s fantastic. I would hope to wrestle her again. And I can’t wait to see what more she does and can do, you know, in the world of wrestling, because she’s really unique and she’s fun and she’s exciting and she’s bad ass and she can wrestle her butt off. So it’s cool to see.”

Impact Wrestling presents Slammiversary live on pay-per-view this Sunday from the Nashville Fairgrounds in Nashville, TN.

Randy Orton Expected to Miss the Remainder of 2022

0

WWE’s week of bad news just got even worse.

Several of the company’s top Superstars are currently off television for a variety of reasons. Roman Reigns is appearing less frequently. Brock Lesnar has been absent since WrestleMania 38. Cody Rhodes just had pectoral surgery. Sasha Banks is reportedly gone from the company and now it appears Randy Orton won’t be seen any time soon, either.

Randy Orton Injury Update

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select was the first to report that WWE fears Orton will be out of action for the rest of the year, a huge blow to the company.

Orton last competed on the May 20th edition of SmackDown, teaming with Riddle in a losing effort to The Usos in the tag title Unification match.

On the following Raw, Riddle revealed that Orton has been working through serious injuries and could “barely walk” prior to the tag title unification match.

Unfortunately, Orton’s physical ailments are legitimate. According to the Fightful report, Orton needed to “have work done” in order for him to be able to compete in the tag title unification match. Things have gotten worse since then and there’s fear he will be forced to undergo back surgery.

Randy Orton isn’t factored into creative plans for WWE at the moment, after being slated for a huge role this summer.

– Fightful Select

A Change of Plans

Losing Orton for the rest of the year could not come at a worse time for WWE which is already missing several major players.

It had been reported that Orton was the planned opponent for Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at Summerslam, but that match is seemingly off now.

With Reigns not competing at Money in the Bank, WWE will want to have a match featuring the “Tribal Chief” at their biggest party of the Summer.

Though Drew McIntyre remains active on the roster, he has already called out Reigns for a match at September’s Clash at the Castle event.

More Proof That MJF is a Jerk in Real Life (Video)

0

If you needed more proof that MJF is a jerk in real life, we have it for you.

On a recent episode of “The Wendy Williams Show,” television personality Sherri Shepherd talked about a recent interaction she had with MJF and her kid at an airport. Shepherd’s child was too scared to ask MJF for an autograph, so Shepherd herself did it for him.

When she asked him if he was MJF, he said no. She then followed up and asked if people tell him he looks like a professional wrestler named MJF, he then abruptly responded, “yes” and turned away from her.

However, Shepherd did note her son tried to explain to her that, because MJF is a bad guy, he needs to stay in character all the time.

https://twitter.com/WendyWilliams/status/1537163036204576768

“When I was flying from Los Angeles to New York, I had an encounter with a former child star who appeared on The Rosie O’Donnell Show back in 2001. So at the time he was five years old, and some of you may remember him because his name is Maxwell Jacob Friedman.

“And Rosie had on as a guest, and he came on at the age of five and came on to sing … Now, young Max did not grow up to be a professional singer. He’s now 26 years old, and he goes by the initials MJF. And he’s a professional wrestler.

“He is a professional wrestler, and I guess the J in MJF stands for jerk. And I’m gonna tell y’all why – that’s what he was acting like when I met him at the airport when we were waiting in the lounge.

“Not nice at all. And see, my son Jeffrey, he’s a big wrestling fan and he knows all of the wrestlers. He spotted MJF while we were waiting for the plane. And you know, Jeffrey was really nervous going up to him and asking for an autograph.

“Because you don’t know. And so I said, ‘I’ll do it for my baby,’ because I’m mother bear. I said I would go up and ask him for an autograph. And I know how to be with celebrities, I know they don’t want you to do a bunch of talking.

“So I was very nice and I tapped him gently on the leg. And I said, ‘Excuse me, are you the famous wrestler MJF?’ He snapped back, he said, ‘No!’

“So I said, ‘Okay, well do people tell you that you look like the famous wrestler MJF?’ Then he snapped back and went, ‘Yes!’ and he put his headphones on and turned away from me.”

“And I wanted to say to him, ‘I don’t like your tone.’ That’s what I wanted to tell him. And I was like, ‘He has one more time to snap at me before I lay the smackdown on him.’

“I was not playing. You don’t — really? Jeffrey was standing right and he was smiling and everything. He goes, ‘No, mom. MJF is a bad guy. And he’s supposed to be a jerk.’

“And I’m like, I told my son, ‘No, no, you don’t know what a real bad guy is, unless he pisses off a black momma trying to get a photo for her son.’ I’m trying to get a photo for my baby. Like, I wasn’t bothering him, I just wanted a little picture, I was so mad at him.”

Currently MJF and his status with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) seems to be the big story surrounding the controversial star. He hasn’t been seen since his “pipebomb” promo on Dynamite a few weeks ago.

MJF swore on live TV, begging Tony Khan to fire him before the live feed was ended abruptly. It remains to be seen what will be next for the 26-year-old.

AEW References Vince McMahon Investigation

AEW wasted little time referencing the latest drama surrounding WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

McMahon could be in hot water after The Wall Street Journal reported that the WWE boss made a secret $3 million pact with a former employee. Vince was said to have had an affair with the ex-WWE worker and paid the person to keep quiet.

The report also notes that Vince allegedly passed the former employee off to WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis “like a toy.”

The WWE Board is investigating the allegations.

Max Caster Drops Rap Referencing Vince McMahon Drama

Max Caster was in action during a recent taping for AEW Rampage, which is set to air on June 17. Caster usually does a rap during his entrance and as expected, he wasn’t about to let this investigation slide.

At one point in the rap, Caster said, “Honestly I have something to say/But somebody made me sign an NDA.”

https://twitter.com/Dbo1986/status/1537264683769643012

This isn’t the first time Max Caster has tried ruffling the feathers of the WWE Chairman. He recently flipped the bird at McMahon’s Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Many have been wondering what the potential fallout could be for Vince McMahon and WWE as a whole. Many experts believe that this is a legitimate threat to Vince’s power in WWE.

Some also feel that John Laurinaitis could be the scapegoat here and eventually get released. For now, it’s “business as usual” as PWInsider reported that McMahon is expected to be behind the scenes for this week’s episode of SmackDown.

Impact Wrestling Memories Over 20 Years

0

As Impact Wrestling celebrates the 20th anniversary of its first show, I think back to my own memories.

Mourning the loss of WCW and ECW I was excited at the idea of something that felt familiar and new. Built on the foundation of the NWA complete with stars that I missed seeing on weekly television. Needless to say, I was intrigued. I remember those Wednesday night shows and going over to my friend’s house to watch them. As a broke college student, I’d shell out a few dollars to help cover the $9.99 cost.

Not long into Impact’s (or should I say NWA-TNA) run, I decided to rent a car with a friend during spring break. We drove from South Florida to Nashville for a taping. The company couldn’t have been more accommodating, even taking us on a tour of the Nashville Fairgrounds. We were even treated to a visit to the White Trash Cafe where the crew would eat before the show.

That night Chris Harris was within an eyelash of becoming the NWA champion over Jeff Jarrett. Seeing Sting again was another highlight. Earlier in the day, I’d banked interviews with not only Jarrett but America’s Most Wanted, Konnan, Johnny Fairplay, and Vince Russo.

A little less than a year later I was happy to make the drive in 2004 for the promotion’s first three-hour pay-per-view Victory Road. The energy in the Impact Zone was palpable right from that top-quality produced opening video package. The last time I’d get to see Macho Man Randy Savage live. I’ll never forget those trips to Universal Studios Orlando. Even the time the soundstage had to be evacuated in the middle of a pay-per-view due to fire. Eric Young, Traci Brooks, and other talent did an amazing job keeping the fans entertained before the crew let us back in for the rest of the show.

One of the things Impact did well over the years is create some unique fan experiences. In 2010, for Slammiversary I remember a particularly fun night at the NASCAR Sports Grille. Stars interacted with attendees in an intimate and festive setting. I mean where else could you share a shot with members of the Beautiful People or play a game with Abyss? A few years ago I also recall covering a mini-golf tournament between Impact wrestlers and fans. I kind of wish I also attended the bowling tournament.

Then there was 2014’s Lockdown when Impact hosted its first Miami pay-per-view. That fan weekend was a big highlight for me as I got some time with the legendary Great Muta. Ahead of the show, I also spotlighted hometown boy MVP for a local publication.

Early on in dating my now wife, I recall taking her to Impact’s first live event (house show) in Miami. She was ecstatic to see “her champion” Taylor Wilde. She was invested in the Knockouts at the time no doubt. We actually spent one of our anniversaries in Daytona Beach during Bound for Glory weekend. When we got two dogs, the names bestowed upon them were Shelley and Sabin after the Motor City Machine Guns. My first big feature for Pro Wrestling Illustrated was actually on Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin’s return to Impact.

Even recently I reached out to Ross Forman, head of PR  about having some stars come out in support of a “Day of Giving” event at my local YMCA of Central Florida. Since they were in town for TV tapings, he made it so Deonna Purrazzo and Moose stopped by to help support the cause and raise a few dollars. For that, I’m extremely grateful.

You see, in many ways, this company has run parallel with my own life moments. I feel I’ve essentially grown up beside them. And for that reason, the company will always hold a special place for me. So I say thank you to Impact Wrestling for the last 20 years. Here’s to looking forward to its next chapter.

Spoiler: Another AEW Star Makes His Return

Orange Cassidy isn’t the only AEW star who has made his return.

Following the June 15 episode of Dynamite (Road Rager edition), AEW taped this week’s episode of Rampage.

The show, which is set to air on June 17, featured Jon Moxley vs. Dante Martin, Max Caster and The Gunn Club in action, a TBS Title match between champion Jade Cargill and Willow Nightingale, and Darby Allin vs. Bobby Fish.

It’s Sting!

Of course, Bobby Fish wasn’t alone on Rampage. He tried to get Kyle O’Reilly in on the action but a familiar face put a stop to that.

Sting made his return to even the odds for Darby. O’Reilly had put “The Icon” out of commission after placing his ankle through a chair and crushing it with a diving knee drop last month.

It’s clear that Sting is back for revenge.

AEW Rampage Spoilers (June 17)

Here are spoilers for the rest of the June 17 AEW Rampage card:

  • Jon Moxley def. Dante Martin
  • The Gunn Club & Max Caster def. Leon Ruff & Bear Country
  • TBS Championship Match: Jade Cargill (c) def. Willow Nightingale
  • Darby Allin def. Bobby Fish

Details on Who Could Take Over WWE Booking if Vince McMahon is Out

It’s been a wild turn of events for Vince McMahon and WWE.

The Wall Street Journal recently dropped a bombshell report of an investigation. McMahon allegedly made a secret $3 million hush pact who a former employee. Vince supposedly had an affair with the ex-employee.

WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis may also be in hot water. The report notes that Vince allegedly passed the ex-employee to Laurinaitis “like a toy.”

The investigation is being conducted by the board of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc.

Vince McMahon’s Potential Replacement

The belief is that this could be the greatest threat to Vince McMahon’s power in WWE since the 1994 steroid trial. While Vince was facing prison time for that trial, this current situation is still serious and pressure could mount on the WWE Chairman.

During a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that there are two key people to look out for should Vince McMahon actually be forced to step down.

Bruce Prichard has been described as the “number two guy” in WWE right now in terms of booking the shows. Meltzer notes that many within the company don’t believe Bruce would be able to fill Vince’s shoes due to health problems and other things.

Triple H is still in play as well. He also has had some major health issues and many wonder if he should even take on such a role if offered. Of course, his vision for NXT being dismantled has many skeptical that he’d be the first choice to take over the booking.

PWInsider is reporting that WWE is taking the “business as usual” approach for the June 17 episode of SmackDown. The WWE crew has been informed that Vince McMahon will be at the show.

Joey Janela is Suspicious of AEW Featuring Sonny Kiss on Dynamite

0

AEW star Sonny Kiss was featured on last night’s AEW Dynamite, but it wasn’t in a match.

Instead, the 28-year-old wrestler was part of a commercial celebrating Pride month, but the timing of this has been criticized by one ex-AEW talent.

Janela’s response

After the commercial aired, ex-AEW talent Joey Janela pointed out how Kiss was featured, but she hasn’t been used in a match on TV in years.

Sonny Kiss’ last match on AEW Dynamite was back on the October 21, 2020 edition of Dynamite, where she lost to Kenny Omega.

Janela said that AEW should “cut the bullsh*t,” insinuating that the only reason the company featured Kiss was due to Pride month.

You can check out Janela’s tweet below.

AEW and LGBTQ+

anthony bowens 1
Anthony Bowens with his partner Michael, in a 2019 video where the AEW wrestler announced he solely identifies as gay.

Sonny Kiss is proud to be part of the LGBTQ+ community but she isn’t the only star on AEW’s roster who is part of this group.

Anthony Bowens previously identified as bisexual, but revealed that he solely identifies as gay in a 2019 video.

Despite a recent injury, Bowens has appeared regularly on AEW programming as part of The Acclaimed.

Nyla Rose is a transgender woman and was the first transgender World champion in a major American promotion after capturing the Women’s World Championship in February 2020.

Diamante is openly gay and is in a relationship with Impact Wrestling star and former Knockouts Tag Team Champion Kiera Hogan.

  • Kiss uses both he/him and she/her pronouns. For consistency and given that Kiss identifies as transfeminine, the author has used she/her pronouns throughout this article.

Thunder Rosa & Marina Shafir Make Amends After Sabotage Claims

0

AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa and Marina Shafir aren’t going to let recent claims cause problems between them.

Recently, the pair made news after there were accusations of Rosa sabotaging a match between them.

The reigning AEW Women’s World Champion responded to the claims when speaking to Ariel Helwani, and said that people will always talk, but she will move forward.

On Twitter, Rosa shared a couple of photos of herself and Shafir breaking bread, a sign that they have made amends.

The Accusations

On last week’s AEW Dynamite, Rosa defended her title against Shafir in a match that saw the champion retain.

During the match though, several spots didn’t go as planned, and at one point, Shafir struggled to lift the Women’s World Champion.

Online, some accused Rosa of ‘sandbagging’ making her body go limp and as difficult to maneuver, in an attempt to make Shafir look bad.

A fan who tweeted about the match, claiming that Rosa had sabotaged the match had their tweet liked by both Shafir and former Women’s World Champion Dr. Britt Baker.

The Past

This is the latest accusation against Rosa, after ex-AEW star Ivelisse had a match with her in 2020 in which both women were not on the same page.

After departing the company, Ivelisse claimed that Rosa had sabotaged the match and said the bout had been a factor in her departure.

Latest on Vince McMahon’s Status for this Friday’s SmackDown

0

Vince McMahon is once again in the news, and not for the reasons the Chairman of WWE is hoping for.

This week, it’s been reported that McMahon is under investigation by WWE’s board over an alleged $3 million payment to a paralegal.

The payout was allegedly made as ‘hush money’ over an affair between the two following the paralegal’s hiring in 2019.

McMahon is said to be cooperating fully with the investigation and is working as if nothing has changed.

McMahon at SmackDown

Given the accusations against McMahon, many have questioned whether he would be at this Friday’s SmackDown on FOX.

According to a source who spoke to PW Insider, McMahon will be at this Friday’s show and claimed that things will be business as usual.

Staff have also been informed that McMahon will be at the show and that nothing has changed about his role in production.

As for John Laurinaitis, whose name also came up during the allegations, his role is said to be “unchanged” as of this time.

The allegations

McMahon is alleged to have had a sexual relationship with the paralegal who was hired in 2019.

It’s claimed that the woman was paid $100,000 as part of her WWE contract, which was increased to $200,000 after their relationship began.

After leaving the company earlier this year, it is reported that WWE organized a $3 million payout for her silence, with the first $1 million paid up front.

The remaining $2 million was set to be paid in installments over five years.

What Happened After June 15 AEW Dynamite Went Off The Air

Another episode of AEW Dynamite is over and something took place after the June 15 airing.

AEW stacked this Road Rager special for Dynamite. Fans got to witness a stellar main event for the AEW World Tag Team Championships. The Young Bucks are now two-time AEW World Tag Team Champions after defeating Jurassic Express in a ladder match.

After the match, Christian Cage turned heel by hitting the Killswitch and a Conchairto on Jungle Boy.

That wasn’t all for the show as Will Ospreay and Dax Harwood had a fantastic match. Orange Cassidy also made his return from injury and it was announced that he’ll take on Ospreay at Forbidden Door.

After The Show

Asa Gray was kind enough to send us the following recap of what transpired once the cameras stopped rolling:

“After they went off the air, Cage confronted the crowd and went to the back. Tony Khan came out to check on Jungle Boy, he apologized to the crowd for what we just saw and then plugged the Rampage matches. Moxley vs. Dante Martin. Jade Cargill vs. Willow Nightingale for the TBS title, Max Caster and The Ass Boys (Gunn Club) vs. Ruffin It (Leon Ruff & Bear Country), Darby vs. Bobby Fish.”

Here is footage of Tony Khan’s speech to the crowd following Dynamite:

Major AEW Talent Turns Heel at Road Rager

The Road Rager edition of AEW Dynamite ended with a big heel turn.

The June 15 episode of Dynamite emanated from the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri. This was a stacked show that featured a hair vs. hair match, a fantastic outing featuring Will Ospreay and Dax Harwood, Toni Storm vs. Britt Baker, and much more.

Of course, the night ended with a ladder match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship. It was Jurassic Express putting the gold on the line against The Young Bucks.

This was a thrilling match that ended with The Young Bucks capturing the gold.

After the match, things went awry for Jungle Boy.

Christian Cage Turns Heel

After the title match, AEW doctor Michael J Sampson was checking on Jungle Boy inside the ring. Christian Cage went inside the ring and initially appeared to assist him.

Instead, Christian planted Jungle Boy with the Killswitch. He then nailed him with a Conchairto.

AEW has teased Christian Cage eventually turning on Jurassic Express for a while now. The plan has finally been executed and a fresh feud between Christian and Jungle Boy has begun.

AEW Star Returns on Dynamite

An AEW star has made his return from injury.

The Road Rager edition of AEW Dynamite took place on June 15. The action was held inside the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri.

The show opened with a hair vs. hair match between Chris Jericho and Ortiz. Jericho won the match thanks to interference from Sammy Guevara. Ortiz ended up shaving his own head.

Road Rager also featured one heck of a match between Will Ospreay and Dax Harwood. Ospreay won the match and after the fact, there was a surprise return.

Orange Cassidy Returns

After the match, a brawl broke out between members of the United Empire and CHAOS. Suddenly, a familiar tune blared out of the speakers.

It was none other than Orange Cassidy returning from injury.

OC had a staredown with Will Ospreay before the United Empire leader bailed.

Orange Cassidy suffered a shoulder injury during the Face of the Revolution ladder match back on March 6. He had made some appearances after the injury but he would soon be off TV to heal.

Female WWE Star Slams John Laurinaitis Amid Allegations

A WWE female star has spoken out after news broke of an investigation on Vince McMahon’s alleged $3 million pact.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is in hot water following a report from The Wall Street Journal. The report revealed that the WWE board is investigating allegations that McMahon gave a former employee a secret $3 million dollar settlement to keep quiet about their affair.

The report notes that the employee’s salary went up from $100,000 to $200,000 when she began having sexual relations with McMahon.

WWE Talent On John Laurinaitis

John Laurinaitis, the head of WWE Talent Relations, is also involved in the investigation. It’s been alleged that McMahon passed the ex-WWE employee to Laurinaitis “like a toy.”

One anonymous female WWE talent briefly spoke to Fightful and she made it clear that she does not feel comfortable around John Laurinaitis.

“I’d rather get all my s**t sent to me in a trash bag when I get fired than have to deal with him, and neither are good options.”

Anonymous WWE female talent on John Laurinaitis

There is a feeling among many within the industry that Laurinaitis could soon find himself out of a job. That isn’t a report but just the general feeling.

Sean Ross Sapp noted during a recent live stream that several former female WWE workers have told him that they didn’t feel comfortable around Laurinaitis.

As far as McMahon goes, the ramifications could be significant. Some experts are saying that this is the biggest threat to his power within WWE since the steroid trial.

That isn’t to compare the two situations either. With the steroid trial, Vince was facing prison time and had plans in place if he had been found guilty of distributing steroids to his roster.

Nonetheless, this is a serious situation and we’ll keep you posted as updates continue to roll out.

A brawl broke out as Wheeler Yuta and Santana rushed the ring. Eddie snuck into the ring and leveled Jericho with the Backfist to the Future while referee Aubrey Edwards was distracted.

Ortiz went for the cover but Jericho somehow kicked out at two and the match continued. Fuego del Sol got in the ring and hit Ortiz with a baseball bat. Jericho got the pinfall victory and then it was revealed to be Sammy Guevara under the mask. Ortiz cut his own hair off while shouting “blood and guts!” over and over. Jericho Appreciation Society and Sammy Guevara retreated up the entrance ramp to end the segment.

Wardlow Dominated The Plaintiffs

Wardlow started dishing out Powerbombs early and sent one of the “arena security” members out of the ring with a Powerbomb. Wardlow delivered some Chokeslams and stacked a bunch of guards on top of each other and pinned them all at once. Wardlow continued hitting Powerbombs on the security guards who comically came at him one at a time. He then delivered a Clothesline, a Chokeslam, and a few more Powerbombs to eliminate the rest of the plaintiffs.

Wardlow went to attack Mark Sterling but Dan Lambert interrupted with TNT Champion Scorpio Sky in the crowd. Lambert instructed UFC legends Tyron Woodley and Matt Hughes to attack Wardlow but he talked them out of it. They threw Mark Sterling towards Wardlow and he delivered one final Powerbomb before posing for the crowd.

Will Ospreay def. Dax Harwood In A Great Match, Orange Cassidy Returned

Dax Harwood squared off against Will Ospreay tonight on Dynamite. Ospreay controlled the action early and sent Harwood to the corner. Will delivered some chops to the chest that echoed throughout the venue. Harwood responded with some big chops of his own that got a pop from the crowd. Dax followed it up with a Suplex and then a Back Body Drop for a two count.

Ospreay went for a Suplex but Harwood blocked it as the two wrestlers battled on the ring apron. Harwood went for a Brainbuster but Ospreay escaped and sent Dax into the steel steps with a Dropkick as Dynamite went to a commercial break.

When Dynamite returned, Harwood connected with a series of German Suplexes and a loud “AEW!” chant broke out. Dax climbed to the top rope but Will moved to the opposite side of the ring. Harwood hit him with a giant release German Suplex and climbed back to the top turnbuckle. Dax went for a flying headbutt but Ospreay got out of the way.

Will hit a 630 Splash for a two count and went back to the top rope but Dax caught him with some strikes to the face. Harwood went for a Suplex but Ospreay countered into a Crossbody for a two count. Ospreay hit a Powerbomb but Harwood was able to get him in a cradle for a close two count and the match continued.

Harwood rolled out of the ring to buy himself some time but it backfired as Ospreay leveled him with a Crossbody. Back in the ring, Ospreay climbed to the top rope and delivered a strong elbow strike to the back of Harwood’s head for a near fall. Harwood went for a Powerbomb but Ospreay escaped. Will went for a Cutter but Harwood countered into a slingshot Liger Bomb for another near fall.

The crowd applauded as both men made their way back. Harwood turned Will inside out with a Clothesline and then went for another one but Ospreay countered into a Powerbomb for a cover. Ospreay hit the Cutter for a two count but followed it up with a running elbow (the Hidden Blade) for the pinfall victory. After the match, United Empire rushed to the ring and attacked Harwood. Cash Wheeler tried to make the save but he got beaten down as well.

Orange Cassidy’s theme hit and he strutted his way down the entrance ramp as Ospreay angrily stared from inside the ring. Cassidy got in the ring with Ospreay and they had a stare-down. FTR and Roppongi Vice (Trent & Rocky Romero) showed up behind Cassidy and Ospreay & United Empire retreated.

Moxley & Tanahashi Face-to-Face, Match Added To Forbidden Door

Jon Moxley and Hiroshi Tanahashi had a face-to-face ahead of their Interim AEW Championship match at Forbidden Door a week from Sunday. Moxley claimed that his work in NJPW has always been about Tanahashi because there is only one man that they call “Ace”. The crowd loudly chanted for “Tanahashi!” and Moxley noted that the man deserves respect.

Moxley claimed that he is the best professional wrestler on the planet, and lives it every night while others just pretend they are the best. Jon added that when the dust settles at Forbidden Door, Tanahashi will refer to Moxley as “Ace”. Jericho interrupted with Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti.

Jericho said that the only reason Moxley is even in the match is that he wasn’t here last week. Chris suggested that he may hit Moxley with a fireball and boasted about defeating Tanahashi in the Tokyo Dome. Tanahashi told Jericho to shut up and Chris instructed JAS to rush the ring. Another brawl broke out and a slapped-together 6-man match was announced for Forbidden Door. It will be Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara and Minoru Suzuki vs. Eddie Kingston, Wheeler Yuta, and Shooter Umino. Sammy Guevara, Lance Archer and El Desperado are also now in Jericho Appreciation Society.

Miro Qualified For The All-Atlantic Title Match At Forbidden Door

Miro battled Ethan Page tonight in a qualifying match. The winner will be added to the 4-Way match to crown the first AEW All-Atlantic Champion at Forbidden Door. PAC has already qualified for the match. Dan Lambert was in Ethan’s corner for the match. Ethan got in some offense early but Miro battled back and hit a Clothesline as Dynamite went to break.

When Dynamite returned, Miro knocked Ethan to the outside and followed him out there. Page sent Miro into the ring post and followed it up with a shoulder tackle that knocked him into the steel steps. Page rolled Miro into the ring and climbed to the top turnbuckle. Ethan connected with a diving shoulder strike for a two count and set up on the ring apron. Page hit a springboard Cutter and went for the cover but the former TNT Champion kicked out at two.

Miro battled back and leveled Ethan with a leg lariat. Miro applied the Game Over submission hold and Page tapped out. Miro now joins PAC in the 4-Way to crown the first All-Atlantic Champion at Forbidden Door.

Toni Storm def. Britt Baker

Britt Baker faced Toni Storm tonight on Dynamite in a rematch from the Owen Hart Tournament. Baker defeated Storm in the semifinals and went on to defeat Ruby Soho at Double or Nothing to win the tournament. The action quickly spilled out of the ring and Baker slammed Storm into the ring post. Rebel and Jamie Hayter distracted Toni and Baker attacked Storm from behind.

Toni sent Britt back into the ring and hit a Crossbody. Rebel distracted the referee and Hayter dragged her to the outside. AEW Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa joined the party and yet another brawl broke out as Dynamite went to a break.

When Dynamite returned, Toni Storm planted Britt Baker with a DDT on the floor and rolled her back into the ring. Toni then picked up the win via pinfall after hitting Storm Zero. After the match, Thunder Rosa showed up again on the entrance ramp and raised the title while staring at Toni Storm.

Stokely Hathaway spoke with Willow Nightingale backstage. Stokely wanted Willow to join the Baddies but she declined. Willow announced that she will be accepting Jade Cargill’s Open Challenge for the TBS Championship this Friday on Rampage.

Jay White Attacked Hangman Page

Former AEW Champion Hangman Page marched down to the ring to a great reaction. Page said he wanted a match against Okada to challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Hangman noted that Okada lost the belt to Jay White. Owen Hart Tournament winner Adam Cole interrupted and claimed that he will be challenging for the IWGP title. Cole claimed that Forbidden Door is about the Undisputed Elite and he should have a singles match against Jay White.

Cole said Jay White is here and his theme hit. Cole pointed to the heel entrance tunnel but White didn’t show up. Jay attacked Hangman from behind and boasted about being the champion. White pointed out that Hangman lost the AEW Championship and he will not be defending the IWGP title against Page at Forbidden Door. Jay White announced that he wont be defending against Adam Cole either to end the promo. As of now, it is still unknown who Jay White will be facing at Forbidden Door.

Young Bucks Captured The Tag Titles, Christian Cage Finally Betrayed Jungle Boy

Luchasaurus leveled Matt and Nick with a Clothesline and then grabbed a ladder. Matt hit the big man with a Dropkick through the ropes but turned around into a Suicide Dive from Jungle Boy.

Back in the ring, Jungle Boy hit a springboard Hurricanrana that sent Nick flying off the ladder and to the floor. Jungle Boy and Matt Jackson started climbing the ladder and traded punches. Nick joined the party and knocked Jungle Boy off of the ladder. Luchasaurus went for a double Chokeslam but Young Bucks broke it up.

Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy took control and started climbing the ladder. Young Bucks battled back and dragged them down to the mat. Matt and Nick knocked Luchasaurus out of the ring and set up the ladder against the turnbuckle. Jungle Boy ran up the ladder and hit a Crossbody. Matt hit three Northern Lights Suplexes in a row with the last one sending Jungle Boy into the ladder.

Nick set up a table outside the ring as Matt brought Jungle Boy to the apron. Young Bucks went for a Suplex but Luchasaurus broke it up. Jungle Boy then sent Matt through the table with a Hurricanrana off the ring apron. Nick Jackson put Jungle Boy through another table and planted Luchasaurus with a Destroyer. Nick climbed to the top rope and hit a 450 Splash on Luchasaurus through the table as Dynamite went to the final commercial break of the night.

When Dynamite returned, Luchasaurus planted Matt with a Chokeslam and then delivered another one to Nick Jackson on top of the ladder. Luchasaurus followed it up with a Moonsault off the apron onto the challengers outside the ring. Luchasaurus brought two more ladders into the ring and set them up.

Matt went for a Sleeper Hold but Luchasaurus started climbing anyway. Jungle Boy bashed Matt in the back with a ladder and started climbing. Matt and Nick got on the ladders as well and the two teams traded punches. Young Bucks slammed Luchasaurus down on the ladder blow and put him on another table outside the ring. Nick connected with a Poisonrana on Jungle Boy as Matt climbed to the top turnbuckle. Matt connected with an Elbow Drop that sent Luchasaurus through the table.

Back in the ring, Nick Jackson started climbing but Jungle Boy dragged him down. Jungle Boy hit a Suplex and then delivered another one to Matt Jackson as he got in the ring. Nick and Jungle Boy started climbing the ladders and Matt joined them up there as Luchasaurus was still down. Jungle Boy shoved them down but Young Bucks bounced off the ropes and knocked over the ladder with Jungle Boy on it.

Luchasaurus set up a very tall ladder under the titles and started climbing. Young Bucks recovered and pushed the ladder over, sending Luchasaurus through a stack of tables set up beside the ring. Jungle Boy bashed Nick with the ladder and quickly tried to climb but Young Bucks brought him down. Young Bucks hit Jungle Boy with the BTE Trigger and climbed the ladder to grab the titles. Young Bucks are the new AEW Tag Team Champions.

After the match, Young Bucks celebrated with the titles as Christian Cage made his way down the entrance ramp. Christian checked on Jungle Boy before planting him with the Killswitch. Cage then hit Jungle Boy with the con-chair-to and posed over him to close the show.

Vince McMahon Under Investigation for Secret $3 Million Hush Pact

0

The WWE Board of Directors probes Chairman Vince McMahon about an alleged secret 3 million dollar settlement with a former employee.

The Wall Street Journal Joe Palazzolo and Ted Mann report that McMahon allegedly gave money to the former employee with whom he had an affair last year. However, the company has said that the relationship was consensual and will cooperate with the investigation. According to the report, the information was leaked to board members from someone close to the employee, who will look into the matter. The identity of the former employee was not revealed and it’s revealed that the she signed a non-disclosure agreement.

“…The board of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. is investigating a secret $3 million settlement that longtime chief executive Vince McMahon agreed to pay to a departing employee with whom he allegedly had an affair, according to documents and people familiar with the board inquiry.

More on Vince’s Settlement with Former Employee

According to the WSJ, the former employee was said to have “fallen on hard times” before coming into the company. She had a law degree but couldn’t take the bar exam because she focused on caring for a sick parent. Upon getting hired by WWE, her salary was $100,000. However, the report reveals that it increased to $200,000 after she began a sexual relationship with McMahon.

The friend of the former employee also alleged that General Manager of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis also got involved with her and said McMahon “Gave her like a toy.” WSJ shared that the WWE Board of Directors received a copy of the 3 million dollar agreement from McMahon’s lawyers on Jun. 12. According to WSJ, the former employee had an “…Upfront payment of $1 million.” She would receive the other 2 million dollars over five years based on the deal.

WWE has released a statement responding to the report. Wrestlenomics Brandon Thurston transcribed the statement.

“The Wall Street Journal has published a report about WWE with allegations that we and our Board of Directors take seriously. We are cooperating fully with the independent investigation initiated by our Board of Directors(h/t Brandon Thurston).

We will provide more updates on the story as more information is released.
