Wheeler Yuta Issues Warning To Daniel Garcia, Talks Pure Rules Match Strategies (Exclusive)

0

Wheeler Yuta recently spoke with Jaychele Nicole for SEScoops this past week to talk about his upcoming match with Daniel Garcia and about holding the ROH Pure Championship.

On April 1, Wheeler Yuta became the brand new ROH Pure Champion by defeating then-champion Josh Woods at ROH Supercard Of Honor XV.

His History With Daniel Garcia

Since then, Wheeler has been defending the title on AEW Dark and Dark: Elevation against a vast amount of competitors. Now, at Death Before Dishonor, Yuta will be putting his championship on the line against Daniel Garcia.

For the past few months, Eddie Kingston and Chris Jericho have been in a blood feud. When Eddie needed backup, he called on the Blackpool Combat Club.

Yuta has now been involved in Eddie’s feud against the Jericho Appreciation Society. He recently competed in the Blood & Guts match between the Blackpool Combat Club and the Jericho Appreciation Society where he had his first interaction with Daniel Garcia since the independents.

On August 8, 2021, Daniel Garcia and Wheeler Yuta went to a 60-minute time limit draw for the IWTV Independent Wrestling World Title.

Yuta retained the title due to the draw, but that is the last and only match between the two.

Yuta’s Confidence Heading Into Death Before Dishonor

The youngest member of the Blackpool Combat Club, Wheeler Yuta, spoke with Jaychele Nicole for SEScoops about his feelings going into the match with Garcia.

The ROH Pure Champion said, “Yeah, definitely going into this match. I’m more confident than the first one. We went 60 minutes, but that’s actually the only time Garcia and I have ever had a singles match. The only time we’ve ever interacted in a match would be Blood and Guts. So it’s definitely going to be something that I’m excited for.

“And I think we do know each other a lot better now. But I’m excited to see where the return match goes. I don’t know if it’ll go the full 60 minutes but I think with the pure rules, it’ll be an interesting factor as well that I think fits in very well with both of our styles. So very excited. Yeah.”

Expectations For Yuta vs. Garcia

He also talked about his expectations for the match and how he plans to defeat Garcia:

“Well, I think it’s, it’s interesting that it’s under pure rules. You know, I think pure rules, people think of a very sportsman-like contest, but I think that this one’s gonna get gritty, it’s gonna get dirty, it’s gonna get violent. So I think that the key to winning this match is just who’s willing to go the extra mile.”

Wheeler Yuta on what fans can expect in his match with Daniel Garcia

“Of course, we do have those rules, but who can take those rules and like I said, make them advantages? Use them to hurt your opponent, as opposed to having them be weaknesses or restrictions. So I think that’s what we’re gonna have to do. And we’ll see who the better man is and hopefully, at the end of this will, we’ll have a satisfying conclusion and we’ll know.”

Defending the ROH Pure Championship

Before his time in AEW and the sale to Tony Khan, he spent some time in ROH having Pure Rules matches. Yuta had four Pure Rules matches in Ring of Honor in late 2020 and early 2021.

“It’s really been special to me that I’ve been able to defend the Ring of Honor Pure Championship for, for one thing, it kind of felt like a chapter of my career that I never got to sort of complete, like I had a very brief stint in Ring of Honor, actually it was all through the pandemic.

“So I never got to have a Ring of Honor crowd even, it was all empty arena. So it felt like something that I had, you know, check it off the bucket list.

“It’s always something I wanted to do. But I didn’t feel like I really reached my potential. So when Tony bought Ring of Honor, and I was able to re-enter that world was really exciting.

“So now being able to defend the pure championship, it feels like I’m sort of coming full circle with that sort of completing that chapter. And additionally, just the people that have held it before me, the legacy of the championship is something that’s really special. And I’m really happy to be part of it,” Yuta said.

Strategies for Pure Rules Matches

Yuta even shared some of his strategies for participating in Pure Rules matches.

Matches for the ROH Pure Championship are conducted under “Pure Wrestling Rules”. The Pure Wrestling Rules are:

  1. Each wrestler has three rope breaks to stop submission holds and pinfalls during the match. After a wrestler exhausts his rope breaks, submission and pin attempts under the ropes by the opponent are considered legal.
  2. There are no closed-fist punches to the face allowed in a Pure match, only open-handed slaps or chops to the face are allowed. Punches to other parts of the body (except for low blows) are permitted. The first use of a closed fist to the face would get a warning, and the second would cause the wrestler to be penalized a rope break. If he is already out of rope breaks, he would be disqualified.
  3. A wrestler is subject to a 20 count by the referee if the wrestler goes to the floor.

The Blackpool Combat Club member said:

“Yeah, you really just need to take those rules that could be weaknesses and turn them into advantages. So like, for example, the punch one, you just sort of have to change up the strikes that you’re using.

“If you know that you can’t punch, then maybe use a forearm, maybe use an uppercut, a kick, a knee. So, changing your strategy is very difficult for that. But it’s a lot of fun, as well.

“And then, of course, like the rope breaks, you have to do different things like maybe, maybe it’s a weakness because you can’t get out of submissions. But maybe you turn that into a strength where you exhaust your opponents.

“And then you can use the ropes, you can do rope-assisted submissions, different things that you can’t do in normal wrestling matches. So just taking those rules and making them advantages instead of weaknesses.”

Top Impact Stars Becoming Free Agents Tomorrow

0

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, better known as The Good Brothers, have had a dominant run in Impact Wrestling since joining the promotion back in 2020 shortly after their release from WWE. They are the company’s current tag team champions, their third reign in two years.

However, PW Insider reports that Gallows and Anderson’s contracts with Impact will be expiring after tonight’s television taping in Kentucky, which means they’ll officially be hitting the free agency market starting tomorrow and can accept any offers made from any company in that time.

Reports are that The Good Brothers are expected to resume working for New Japan Pro Wrestling as they already have dates line up. However, this does not mean that their time with Impact is over as they did agree to work some extra dates for the promotion as long as it doesn’t conflict with their NJPW dates. Again…their contractual commitments to Impact end after tonight.

Aside from their work in Impact The Good Brothers appeared multiple times in AEW, and played a huge role in the ongoing dissension of the Elite, a storyline that will eventually play out further once Adam Cole, reDragon, and Kenny Omega return.

Stay tuned.

We’ll keep you updated on their situation.

What Will Logan Paul Be Doing on WWE Raw?

We now know what Logan Paul is set to do on the July 18 episode of WWE Raw.

This coming episode of the red brand’s show is set to take place inside Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL. Advertised for the show is a Raw Women’s Championship rematch between titleholder Bianca Belair and Carmella.

Also scheduled for the show will be the return of Internet sensation Logan Paul. This will be his first WWE appearance since signing a deal with the company.

Ariel Helwani reported that this is a multi-year deal for multiple dates per year.

Logan Paul on Miz TV

WWE has announced that Logan Paul will be appearing on Miz TV for the upcoming episode of Raw.

The Miz has been in a feud with Paul over what happened following their WrestleMania 38 match. Miz and Paul defeated The Mysterios in their tag team match but Miz attacked Paul afterward with the Skull Crushing Finale.

When it was announced that Paul signed with WWE, Miz claimed that he told Paul the attack was simply a lesson in the business and the two will be on the same page to go after the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championships.

In a series of videos posted on social media, Paul made it clear that he is not on good terms with The Miz and wants to fight him.

Miz recently aligned with Ciampa and has warned Logan to team with him or suffer the consequences. AJ Styles has also been having issues with Miz and Ciampa, so it could lead to a big tag team match at SummerSlam on July 30.

The Rock Praises WWE Star As ‘The Whole Package’

0

Many consider Montez Ford of the Street Profits to be a future main eventer. Now he has received praise from none other than The Rock himself.

The great one was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight during the premiere of DC League of Super-Pets. He discussed things such as his daughter making history in NXT and more.

When asked about Ford, The Rock said that he loves the energy and charisma the Raw star brings on the table:

“I love that guy. I love his energy, I love his charisma, I love his work ethic, and, you know, in the world of pro wrestling, there’s nothing like the world of pro wrestling. It’s very unique and it’s also a business.”

The Rock mentioned how everyone in the locker room works very hard. He then complimented Montez Ford as ‘the whole package’:

“Professional wrestling, WWE, it’s in my blood, it’s my passion, I love it. So for a guy like him, he’s worked his butt off.

By the way, they all do. Everybody in that locker room, the men, the women, but him in particular, he’s got great athleticism, he’s got the whole package.”

DC League of Super-Pets will be released in theatres on July 29. You can check out the full interview of The Rock below:

Claudio Castagnoli Was Hidden During Forbidden Door, Reflects On Hugging Tony Khan

0

During a recent discussion with SEScoops correspondent Steve Fall for NBC Sports Boston, Claudio Castagnoli talked about how his AEW debut came together and what it was like the day of.

At AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door, Claudio Castagnoli made his promotional debut against Zack Sabre Jr. He replaced Bryan Danielson in the match as Zack’s mystery opponent. He was also named Bryan’s replacement for the Blood & Guts match.

As Claudio’s debut was a secret, Claudio now says that he was hidden and had to have a private plane fly him in for the show.

The new Blackpool Combat Club member revealed how his debut came together.

Being Hidden During Forbidden Door

Castagnoli said:

“Yeah, so yes, on a special flight, no, on a hotel, kind of right to the arena. And I was kind of hiding. Well, they were like, ‘well, we put you on,’ like, I’ll just go to the locker room.

“They’re like, ‘No, no, you can’t do that.’ I’m like, ‘okay,’ so I was kind of in hiding, but I saw a lot of the guys. And a lot of the friends that came said hello. So it was pretty cool.”

Claudio Castagnoli on being hidden during Forbidden Door

He added, “Yeah, I mean, I, you know, they said maybe some vague texts to some good friends. Like, you know, maybe you come over here, you know? Because I know you, I wanted to say hello. And some people had an idea. So they came and say hello. So it was great. Yeah.”

Claudio was then asked about having to go through the airport and trying to have his location remain a secret.

The former Cesaro revealed, “Yeah, I may not have been at a public airport. So I didn’t have that problem.

“No, yeah, no, I was, it was kind of a private thing. And then I was whisked to the arena. And then I was there for the rest of the day. It couldn’t have worked out any better I thought.”

Acting As Bryan Danielson’s Replacement

At Forbidden Door, Claudio served as Bryan Danielson’s replacement. He spoke about how the debut and match came together and his feelings regarding being the replacement.

“Yeah. And, yeah, obviously very, very sad and upset to hear about Bryan being hurt. But I’m very flattered to be I mean, you know, if it’s somebody who plays Bryan, and you think of me, I’m like, it’s a very flattering compliment.

“And also, you know, Bryan is a very good friend. So of course, I jumped in at a heartbeat, you know, help him and Blackpool Combat Club, which are all my friends anyway. You know, fits perfect again, just worked out.

“So perfect. I was very excited that that was the beginning,” Castagnoli said.

Claudio was also asked if his Forbidden Door debut was the original plan or not.

He responded, “It was not. There was something in the works. But then it was like, ‘Can you start next week?’ That kind of thing. And I was like, ‘Yeah, of course. That’s … I’m a professional, right?”

Hugging Tony Khan

After the AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view, at the post-show media scrum, Claudio and AEW Owner Tony Khan shared a hug. Many wrestling fans had opinions on the hug, but Claudio thinks that people will always find something to complain about.

TK Hugs Claudio

He said:

“It’s so strange because that was after Forbidden Door, the press conference. And it was literally like, it was like a quick hug.

“It was just like, I was done and it was just like, you know when you like see your friend and you give like a high five and then like a pat on the back kind of hug? And like it was screen captured.

“And I guess people remembered it. Hey, it’s just a few bros hugging you know.

“… If people want to complain, they’ll find something to complain about the picture or whatever.

Believes It Should Just Be Taken As A Positive

“And if people like it, they’ll hopefully find something you like about because but I would rather be somebody that appreciates something and says something positive and likes it you know?

“Like, that was a great picture. It was a great night, there was a great view, we hugged awesome, right? Like, isn’t that great? Right?

“Yeah, successful show successful pay-per-view in Chicago, New Japan and AEW coming together, who people didn’t think that was going to be possible, and so many awesome matches on that show.

I was just watching the whole show like what I could and it was fantastic. So just take a positive here.”

AEW Star Is ‘Trying To Get’ WWE Hall Of Famer Into The Company

0

“The Badass” Billy Gunn and “The Road Dogg” Jesse James are best known for their time together as The New Age Outlaws.

Now that the latter is not working for WWE anymore, the former wants his tag team partner to reunite with him. He is actually trying to bring James into AEW.

Gunn recently took part in a virtual autograph signing of K&S WrestleFest. Speaking about his former tag team partner, he claimed that they are trying to bring him in:

“We’re trying to get him here, he’s got other things going on, his podcast that I have to hear about every single day.”

– Billy Gunn

Road Dogg was released from his WWE contract in January this year due to budget cuts. This ended his decade long run with the company in which he in worked various on-screen and backstage roles.

The former SmackDown head writer seems to be interested in joining Tony Khan’s promotion as well. He recently said that he would ‘love to’ join AEW in a backstage role.

With both the partners interested in a reunion, it only appears to be a matter of time before Road Dogg joins All Elite Wrestling. Fans would want to see them reunite on-screen too, but whether or not that happens will be revealed in future.

Vince McMahon Gets Good News Amid Recent Allegations

0

Vince McMahon has gotten at least one good news amid all the controversy surrounding recent allegations made against him. A lawsuit he was facing has officially been settled.

The WWE chairman had been sued by former XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck. This lawsuit came shortly after the premature end of the XFL’s second incarnation.

Luck claimed that his $25 million contract guaranteed him full pay in case it was terminated without cause. He sued McMahon and Alpha Entertainment for $23.8 million remaining in his deal as well as other damages.

Vince McMahon Gets Good News

The lawsuit was set to go on trial on July 7. It was revealed a few weeks ago that both the parties have agreed to a settlement outside of court.

PWinsider is now reporting that a Judge has officially dismissed the lawsuit against Vince McMahon. They noted that the two parties have come to a confidential settlement. Neither to them will have to pay the legal fees of the other.

This is a good news for Mr. McMahon, who has faced multiple waves of accusations in the last few weeks. The latest of the allegations claimed that the boss has paid over $12 million in hush money to former employees.

Though despite receiving a lot of heat from the fans over the allegations, Vince McMahon is said to be under ‘no real pressure’ to leave WWE.

Andrade Provides Update On His Injury After Recent Revelation

0

Andrade has provided an update on his health. This comes after AEW President Tony Khan revealed that he is dealing with an injury.

Khan originally revealed the news while responding to a fan. The fan had commented on the absence of the former NXT champion from AEW programming.

Replying to him, the AEW owner noted that Andrade is actually out with an injury. He revealed that the Mexican star suffered the injury while competing with Rey Fenix three weeks ago. Though TK did not provide any further details on his condition.

Andrade Provides An Update

Andrade himself later took on his Twitter to address the concerned fans. He noted that his injury is nothing serious and he is expected to be cleared in a week or two:

The former US champion was part of the WWE roster from 2015 to 2021. He won multiple titles in the company before asking for his release in March 2021.

Andrade made his debut for AEW in June the same year. While he has been featured regularly on AEW programming ever since, many believe that he hasn’t been used properly by the company.

Eric Bischoff Has Wild Opinion About AEW TV’s Ratings

0

Many believe that WWE’s decision to move Raw back to a TV-14 rating is a result of the rise of AEW. Though Eric Bischoff doesn’t believe it to be the case.

The former WCW president talked about this potential change on the latest episode of his Strictly Business podcast. His co-host theorized that this change is related to the popularity of AEW.

However, Bischoff opposed this sentiment, mentioning that WWE is not losing market share to their competitor. He also shared his wild opinion on AEW’s TV ratings:

“It’s not like WWE is losing audience to AEW. AEW is flatter than piss on a plate in terms of television ratings.” said Eric Bischoff, “It is what it is and WWE is not losing market share to AEW, so why would they react to something that’s not affecting them?”

The former wrestling executive also said that anyone that believes AEW to be a legitimate threat to WWE is “delusional, and has taken ‘fanboyism’ to a terminal level.”

AEW has seen growth in the year-over-year audience every year since its inception. Their flagship program Dynamite has averaged around 950,000 viewers this year compared to the average of 891,000 viewers per episode in 2021.

Though with both Raw and SmackDown regularly pulling over 1.5 million viewers, there is no doubt that Tony Khan’s promotion still has a lot of catching up to do.

Silver connected with a kick to the face and tagged in Reynolds. Alex delivered a Superkick that knocked King out of the ring.

Lucha Bros def. Private Party

Lucha Bros (Pentagon Jr., Rey Fenix) battled Private Party (Isiah Kassidy, Marq Quen) in the main event of this week’s episode of AEW Rampage. Before the match, Mark Henry interviewed both teams backstage.

Private Party dominated the match early and sent Lucha Bros out of the ring. Quen and Kassidy hit a couple of Suicide Dives as Andrade El Idolo cheered them on from ringside. Back in the ring, Fenix connected with a Backbreaker on Quen and Penta tagged in.

Pentagon Jr. hit Quen with a Superkick before knocking Kassidy off the ring apron. Quen threw Fenix out of the ring and then planted Pentagon Jr. with a Tornado DDT. Andrade El Idolo choked Pentagon Jr. against the ropes while the referee was distracted. Rampage went to the final commercial break of the night with Private Party in control of the match.

When Rampage returned, Private Party had Pentagon Jr isolated in the corner. Fenix got the tag and hit Kassidy with a Double Stomp. Rey hit a Leg Drop on Kassidy and fired up the crowd. Fenix hit Kassidy with some chops to the chest before perching him up on the top rope. Fenix hit an Enziguri and went for a Superplex but Quen broke it up.

Marq got Rey in the Electric Chair and Kassidy connected with a Frog Splash off the top rope for a near fall. Quen tagged in and hit Fenix with an Atomic Drop as Penta pleaded for a tag. Fenix connected with a Jawbreaker and bought himself some time.

Pentagon Jr. tagged in and unloaded some kicks to Quen before slamming Kassidy on top of him. Penta knocked El Idolo off the ring apron but Rush caught him with a cheap shot. Private Party capitalized on the attack but Rey broke up the cover. Fenix then planted Quen with a Piledriver for the pinfall victory.

Special Guest Referee for WWE SummerSlam Title Match Revealed

We now know who the special guest referee for a key WWE SummerSlam title match will be.

At this year’s SummerSlam event, WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions The Usos will put their gold on the line against the Street Profits. One stipulation added to the match is that there will be a special guest referee.

During the July 15 episode of SmackDown, that referee was revealed.

Jeff Jarrett Will be Referee for WWE SummerSlam

At the conclusion of the most recent SmackDown show, Adam Pearce announced that Jeff Jarrett will be the official for the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championship match at SummerSlam.

The move makes sense for the Nashville area. Jarrett is quite popular in the state of Tennessee. This year’s SummerSlam show will be held inside Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

After the announcement was made, The Usos and the Street Profits brawled to end the July 15 SmackDown show.

New WWE Character to Debut on SmackDown Next Week

A brand new character will be seen on the July 22 episode of SmackDown.

In the world of wrestling, new gimmicks are seen all the time. This is especially true in WWE, where characters of all kinds are found.

One new faction has been formed on the blue brand and it has been quite polarizing, to say the least. While some find the group to be quirky, others believe it’s dead in the water.

Regardless, the Maximum Male Models will stick around for now.

Introducing Maxxine Dupri

During the recent episode of WWE SmackDown, it was announced that Max Dupri, ma.çé, and mån.sôör will be debuting the new 2022 beachwear collection next week.

The group will be joined by a special guest.

WWE is advertising that Max Dupri’s sister, Maxxine, will be present for the reveal of the beachwear collection.

There is no word on the identity of the person donning this new character but we’ll be sure to update you once more details surface.

Until then, brace yourself for the ultimate titillation.

Injury Bug Continues to Bite AEW

0

Andrade El Idolo is the latest AEW star to be sidelined with an injury.

He hasn’t wrestled since his victory over Rey Fenix on the June 22 episode of AEW Rampage, which marked Rush’s AEW television debut as he helped him to score the win.

On Friday’s episode of Rampage, Andrade is set to accompany Private Party to ringside when they take on the Lucha Brothers.

Certain fans have criticized the promotion for how they booked Andrade since he arrived in the company last year. When fans noticed he was being used as a manager on this show, one fan asked AEW President Tony Khan why the former NXT Champion wasn’t wrestling himself.

Khan responded to the fan on Twitter by noting that Andrade has been injured since his Rampage match with Fenix.

“He’ll be ringside for Private Party vs Lucha Bros on #AEWRampage on @TNTdrama tonight, he’s been hurt since the classic vs @ReyFenixMx 3 weeks ago. He got @IsiahKassidy & @Marq_Quen to help him tonight, & Lucha Bros both still want a piece of @AndradeElIdolo & @rushtoroblanco too.”

Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Darius Martin, and Jungle Boy are just some of the wrestlers injured. You can see our updated injury tracker with the full list of names.

WWE SmackDown Results (7/15/22): SummerSlam Referee Announced, Liv Morgan vs. Natalya, Theory

0

WWE SmackDown aired live from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. Jimmy Uso battled Angelo Dawkins in the main event. The special guest referee for The Usos vs. Street Profits at SummerSlam was also revealed during tonight’s show. In addition to the takeaways below, it was announced that Max Dupri’s sister, Maxxine Dupri will debut next week.

WWE SmackDown Results (7/15):

  • Championship Contender’s match: Liv Morgan def. Natalya
  • Drew McIntyre def. Ridge Holland
  • Madcap Moss def. Theory via DQ
  • Angelo Dawkins def. Jimmy Uso

Here are the takeaways from this week’s SmackDown:

Pat McAfee Returned

Pat McAfee kicked off tonight’s show and vowed to smack the bad tattoos off of “bum ass Corbin” at SummerSlam. McAfee recalled being roommates with Corbin while they were on the Indianapolis Colts. Pat claimed that Corbin used to be a humble guy but turned into an arrogant douchebag after joining WWE.

Happy Corbin interrupted on the jumbotron and claimed that McAfee needs to take a seat at the commentary table where he belongs. Corbin noted that he’s a fighter and McAfee used to punt footballs. Corbin said he will be staying away from McAfee and the WWE Universe until SummerSlam.

Liv Morgan def. Natalya

Liv Morgan battled Natalya in a Championship Contender’s match tonight on SmackDown. If Natalya defeated the champion, she would get a future title shot. Natalya controlled the action early but Liv responded with a Dropkick for a two count. Liv went for Oblivion but Natalya was able to escape and sent the champion into the ring post as SmackDown went to a break.

When SmackDown returned, Liv connected with a Dropkick off the top rope and followed it up with an Enziguri. Morgan connected with a Backstabber and went for a Splash but Natalya blocked it. Natalya connected with a German Suplex for a two count. Natalya followed it up with a Powerbomb for another two count. Liv battled back and hit the Oblivion for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Kayla interviewed the SmackDown Women’s Champion in the middle of the ring. Liv noted that she is walking into her title defense against Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam as the underdog, but vowed to walk out still the champion.

New Day Tricked The Viking Raiders

Money in the Bank winner Theory was interviewed backstage and was quickly interrupted by Paul Heyman. Paul shook Theory’s hand and claimed that it did not make business sense for him to cash in Roman Reigns. He suggested that he will give him a title shot if he doesn’t cash in but Theory said he is cashing in at SummerSlam no matter what.

New Day dressed up like The Viking Raiders tonight and made their way to the ring as SmackDown went to a break. When SmackDown returned, Erik and Ivar marched to the ring after Kofi and Xavier called them imposters. Woods then played the trombone and Shanky & Jinder Mahal beat The Viking Raiders down from behind.

Gunther & Lacey Evans Promos

Kayla Braxton interviewed Intercontinental Champion Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser backstage. Gunther hit Ludwig with a bunch of chops to the chest last week after he lost his singles match against Shinsuke Nakamura. Gunther said there is no room for failure and that Ludwig’s loss will not be tolerated. The IC Champion then delivered another big chop to Kaiser’s chest.

Lacey Evans made her way to the ring. The crowd booed and Evans grabbed a microphone. She said she’s better than all the fans and has overcome a bunch of obstacles in her life to get here. Lacey called herself an American hero and an example of everything the fans cannot be. Evans then told the fans to go to hell and left the ring.

Drew McIntyre Picked Up A Win

Drew McIntyre faced Ridge Holland tonight. Ridge got in some offense early but Drew battled back. McIntyre planted Ridge with White Noise while trash talking with Sheamus. Drew then hit the Claymore for the pinfall victory. The match was originally supposed to be Sheamus versus McIntyre to determine which star gets a title shot at Clash at the Castle.

Madcap Moss vs. Theory Ended In A DQ

Theory faced Madcap Moss tonight on SmackDown. Before the match, Paul Heyman approached Madcap backstage and tried to get him to deal with Theory. Heyman again promised a title match against Roman Reigns but Madcap said that Heyman sounds “really worried about Theory cashing in at SummerSlam”.

Madcap controlled the action early and slammed Theory to the canvas. Theory battled back and got Moss in a Headlock. Moss broke free but Theory connected with a shoulder tackle and flexed over Madcap. Moss hopped up and leveled Theory with a shoulder tackle of his own. Moss then flexed over Theory and showed off his power with a big Fallaway Slam. Moss sent Theory out of the ring with a Clothesline and followed him out there. Theory leapfrogged Moss and Madcap crashed into the steel steps as SmackDown went to a commercial break.

When SmackDown returned, Theory hit Moss with a Dropkick and went for the cover but Madcap wouldn’t stay down. Theory got Moss in a Headlock in the middle of the ring. Madcap escaped but Theory caught him with a flurry of punches. Moss responded with a big shoulder tackle and both superstars fell to the canvas.

Moss connected with a Spinebuster for a close two count. Moss went for a Powerbomb but Theory countered into a Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall. The action spilled out of the ring and ended in a disqualification after Theory hit Madcap with his MITB briefcase. Moss vowed to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam.

Sami Zayn interrupted and had his arm in a sling. The Honorary Uce strongly recommended that Theory apologize for threatening to cash in against Reigns. The Usos joined the party and Theory retreated. Madcap Moss then threw Theory like a dart into the ring post.

Jeff Jarrett Will Be The Special Guest Referee At SummerSlam

Jimmy Uso battled Angelo Dawkins in the main event. Montez Ford and Jey Uso were ringside for the match, Sami Zayn joined commentary. Dawkins connected with a Spinebuster early for a near fall. Jimmy sent Angelo to the ring apron and hit him with an Enziguri. Angelo battled back and knocked Jimmy to the outside with a Clothesline. Dawkins then delivered a big shoulder tackle that sent Jimmy flying over the barricade and into the timekeeper’s area as SmackDown went to the final commercial break of the night.

When SmackDown returned, Dawkins connected with a Neckbreaker for a near fall. The referee got knocked down and missed Jimmy Uso with the match won. Dawkins hit the Sky High for the pinfall victory. Sami Zayn shouted that his shoulder was up and referee Charles Robinson was wrong.

Adam Pearce showed up at the end of the show and said there is nothing worse than losing to a questionable call. Pearce announced that Jeff Jarrett will be the special guest referee for the Undisputed Tag Team Championships.

A big SummerSlam reveal is set for tonight’s episode of SmackDown.

The July 15 edition of the blue brand’s show will take place inside the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. Featured on the show will be SmackDown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan taking on Natalya in a non-title match.

If Natalya wins, she will earn a future title opportunity.

SummerSlam Referee to be Revealed

WWE has announced that on tonight’s episode of SmackDown, the special guest referee for the Undisputed Tag Team Title match will be revealed. The Usos are set to put their gold on the line against the Street Profits at the big event.

There has been plenty of speculation on who the referee could be. Some have theorized that Sami Zayn could do The Bloodline’s dirty work by being the special referee. Time will tell if that is the plan.

This year’s SummerSlam event will be held inside Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. The action goes down on July 30.

The Rock Comments on Daughter Ava Raine Making History in NXT

0

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s daughter, Simone Johnson, is going under the Ava Raine name in WWE NXT after signing with the company in February 2020. She appeared at two live events this past weekend.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of his latest movie, “DC League of Pets,” Johnson commented on Simone’s recent debut at a set of NXT live events.

“She’s made history. Very, very proud of her. She is fiercely independent. It’s very important for her to make her own way, blaze her own trail, blaze her own path. She doesn’t come to me looking for a lot, which I respect that. And I’m here watching and supporting.”

The Rock also praised Montez Ford in this interview by noting that he thinks the former WWE Tag Team Champion is the total package thanks to his charisma and athleticism. He also was asked about wrestling again, and Johnson said he is always open to that.

It’s still unclear when Raine will make her WWE NXT television debut. “DC League of Pets” will be released in theaters on July 29th.

Santana Will Miss the Remainder of 2022

0

Santana will be on the sidelines for the rest of the year after he suffered a knee injury whilst trying to perform a Rock Bottom during the Blood and Guts match on the June 29th episode of AEW Dynamite between The Jericho Association Society and The Blackpool Combat Club.

The Blackpool Combat Club went over in the match thanks to Claudio Castagnoli picking up the win. Santana’s injury kept him out of action for the majority of the match.

During his appearance on the “True Gordie Podcast,” Chris Jericho updated fans on how long Santana will be out of action.

“He f**ked up his knee from doing a simple Rock Bottom,” Jericho said. “That’s not on top of a cage, that’s not falling off a cage, that’s not getting hit with a barbed wire bat, or whatever. It’s doing a wrestling move, and he’s out eight months.”

Santana and Ortiz made their AEW debut at All Out in 2019, beating down The Young Bucks and The Lucha Bros after their ladder match that saw The Lucha Bros win the titles.

The former LAX members have yet to win gold in AEW. Konnan recently confirmed rumors that the tag team is suffering from a frayed relationship as they have not worked a normal tag team match thus far in 2022 and won’t for the rest of the year now with Santana sidelined.

Santana joins several AEW stars who are injured. You can see our updated injury tracker with the full list of names.

Cody Rhodes Provides Update On His Torn Pectoral Recovery: “I Almost Hemorrhaged In The Surgery”

0

Cody Rhodes has given an update on his torn pectoral recovery.

The American Nightmare made an appearance on today’s episode of Busted Open Radio and spoke with the show’s hosts about the injury he sustained right before his Hell in a Cell showdown with Seth Rollins, a matchup that Rhodes bravely competed in anyway and earned a marquee victory.

The top WWE babyface begins by saying that the doctor who performed his surgery was one of the best in the world, but that they are being coy with how well it went.

“I had Dr. Dugas, he’s the best in the world to do it, but the problem with him doing it is he knows me and they’re being very coy.”

The doctors have also not given Rhodes any timeline to return out of concern that he will try and push it too hard and come back earlier.

“They’re not going to give me a timeline just yet for when I’m going to be back because they’re afraid if they give me that timeline, I’m going to try and jump it by a month or two.”

Rhodes’ gutsy performance at Hell in a Cell earned him critical acclaim from wrestling fans all over, as well as a five-star ratings from top journalist Dave Meltzer. However, Rhodes reveals that his surgery did have a scary moment due to how much blood there was, which fans recognized from the bruising on his body in the matchup.

“But I don’t think people know, the surgery was — I almost hemorrhaged in the surgery because there was so much blood. People have seen the picture of it, in the match per se, it was pretty gnarly.”

You can hear Rhodes talk about the situation below.

Rhodes going down derailed some of WWE’s longterm booking plans, but the hope is that he’ll be back in time for next year’s Royal Rumble premium live event. His match at Hell in a Cell was his first ever PPV main event for WWE counting his time prior to forming AEW.

We’ve updated our Injury Tracker to reflect the latest on Cody’s condition.

Latest Update on Io Shirai’s WWE Status

There’s been plenty of rumblings on the future of Io Shirai and a new update has surfaced.

It was recently reported by Dave Meltzer that Shirai was “pretty much gone” from WWE. The Japanese star has been on the NXT brand since Nov. 2018.

Despite being considered one of the premier female talents in the world regardless of promotion, she simply has not been given a chance on the main roster. This is said to have caused frustration with Io.

For what it’s worth, Shirai did seemingly respond to Dave’s report with the following Tweet:

What’s Going on With Io Shirai?

In a follow-up, Dave Meltzer took to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter to provide an update on the situation between Io Shirai and WWE.

The report notes that those within NXT were under the impression that Shirai would be leaving WWE to return to STARDOM in Japan. With that said, those close to Shirai are led to believe that she would sign a new WWE contract if she’s brought up to the main roster.

The report also noted that Io has been training at the WWE Performance Center as she’s ready to return to the ring soon following an injury.

It’s been said that WWE has an offer for Io Shirai on the table but whether or not that’s for the main roster is unknown at this time.

We’ll keep you posted on the latest updates involving Io Shirai and WWE.

Claudio Castagnoli Felt Limited In WWE, Explains Decision To Join AEW

0

During a recent discussion with SEScoops correspondent Steve Fall for NBC Sports Boston, Claudio Castagnoli talked about feeling like there was a ceiling above him in WWE and his decision to join AEW.

Claudio’s Ceiling In WWE

On February 24, a report emerged that Claudio’s, at the time Cesaro’s, WWE contract had expired and that he had left the company.

During his time in WWE, Claudio only held one singles championship, and that was the United States Championship in 2013. As Cesaro, he held seven tag team titles in WWE.

He was also the winner of the inaugural André the Giant Memorial Trophy at WrestleMania XXX. Even though he accomplished more than some ever will in WWE, many believe that he never got to fulfill his full potential.

Claudio spoke with Steve Fall for NBC Sports Boston about having a ceiling in WWE.

He was asked if he thinks that there was anything he could’ve done to make it to the next level in WWE.

He responded, “Well, if I would know an answer, we probably wouldn’t have that discussion, right? It’s just one of those things that I do not have the answer to. There’s obviously a lot of speculation going on. But, again, I said if I would have known I would have obviously done it.

“You know, like you said it was a lot of one step forward, two steps back, but I feel that’s how life is for many people. And you have to just keep going and learn from those experiences and then like, learn from it, and then make decisions based on that. that’s why I’m where I’m at now, and I’m very happy.”

Claudio Castagnoli on hitting a ceiling in WWE

Reflecting On His Time In WWE

“I’m also very grateful, like you said, like for, you know, John Cena that I shared the ring with him, the experiences and the respect they have for him, and I would like to think he has for me.

“That’s something that I’ve built over the past 10-15 years, and it’s the same with the fans, you know, like, I am there, and they accepted me, you know what I mean?

“Like, I’m not the guy that just, you know, just say, like a formula. They know, I’ve been in Ring of Honor, I’ve been on the indies before, you know, the United States to do this.

“And they also know that every single time I step in the ring, I always give it 100% no matter if the match is two minutes or 35 minutes, I want to make it the best match possible.

“And that it’s very important to me that it’s authentic. I don’t have like an answer to that question. I don’t know if anybody does. But if that journey brought me to where I am today, I’m very happy and extremely grateful to have been on that journey.

“And I’m very happy, very grateful to be here today.”

The Decision To Join AEW

At AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door, Claudio Castagnoli made his promotional debut against Zack Sabre Jr. He replaced Bryan Danielson in the match as Zack’s mystery opponent. He was also named Bryan’s replacement for the Blood & Guts match.

He received one of the biggest pops at Forbidden Door and lit the wrestling world ablaze with his debut. Claudio was also announced as the newest member of the Blackpool Combat Club.

Claudio also talked about his decision to join AEW after his departure from WWE.

The Blackpool Combat Club member said:

“Obviously [I’ve been] following AEW for a while. And when it came to making time for me to just kind of take a step back and look, and I felt that I was a better fit at AEW. There was a lot more for me to do with AEW when it comes to challenges when it came to, you know, people I want to work with.

“They’re just, there’s so much, so many people that I haven’t wrestled either at all or in a very, very long time.

Taking The Next Step In His Career

“So I was just kind of like that’s what I want to do. That’s what I’ll have fun doing. And that’s always for me, I always kind of felt that whenever it was time to move on, I moved on.

“It was the same when I was in, you know, before when I was in Ring of Honor and I felt like now it’s time to make the step to WWE. And that’s what they did. Now, I was like, ‘Okay, I feel now is the time to make the next step.’ And I did and I’m very happy I did.”

WWE Legend Stopped Becky Lynch From Leaving the Company

0

The rise of Becky Lynch in WWE has remained one of the company’s greatest success stories. Lynch went from a top NXT prospect, to the first ever SmackDown women’s champion, but then lived in limbo on the main roster card for nearly two years, which included competing on the pre-show of WrestleMania 34.

Big Time Becks would eventually receive another title opportunity at SummerSlam 2018, which led to a character shift that catapulted her into the main event, a spot she has remained ever since.

When talking about Lynch’s career on the latest edition of his podcast WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley revealed that at one point the former multi-time women’s champion was planning on leaving WWE due to be unsatisfied.

“Before Becky Lynch became The Man, before she got that break that we all thought she was due, she was really wondering, you know, she’s really down on herself, down on her role with the company, wondering if it was all worth it. “

The hardcore legend then shared some advice he gave to Lynch, which he believes helped her ultimately decide to keep pursuing her dream in WWE.

“I remember giving her two pieces of advice. I said, be patient, be ready.”

Another aspect that helped Foley convince Lynch was when he found out how much more money women wrestlers were making in this era than previous ones.

“I won’t tell you what she made, I’ll just tell you my reaction was, oh, well, you’ve got to stay in WWE. I didn’t know that the money had picked up for the women to that extent. And like you said, how many women do you think are making seven figures? Six or seven?”

Even though she lost the Raw women’s championship at WrestleMania 38 to Bianca Belair she has continued to compete in the main event scene.

Wheeler Yuta Reacts To Claudio Castagnoli Joining Blackpool Combat Club (Exclusive)

0

AEW and Ring of Honor breakout star Wheeler Yuta recently spoke with Jaychele Nicole for SEScoops this past week to discuss all the recent happenings with the Blackpool Combat Club ahead of his Death Before Dishonor match with Daniel Garcia.

Watch the full interview here, with highlights below:

Claudio Castagnoli Joining BCC

At AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door, Claudio Castagnoli made his debut against Zack Sabre Jr.

The youngest member of the Blackpool Combat Club, Wheeler Yuta, spoke with Jaychele Nicole for SEScoops to talk about his reaction to BCC gaining a new member.

Yuta had the following to say:

“Yeah, Claudio was someone that I’ve always really had a lot of respect for as a wrestler. He’s, he’s incredible. Yeah, he, he’s someone that I’ve really, really appreciated and knowing that he ended Regal’s career and it only made sense that he would be someone that could fit in with our club, he does our style.”

Wheeler Yuta on Claudio Castagnoli joining BCC

“He can do so many things. He’s absolutely incredible. So, it’s really great to have him now as a mentor as someone that I can talk to on my team and hopefully learn from and it’s been just great to have him here so far.”

Career-Defining Match With Moxley

Yuta also talked about his career-defining match with the now Interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley.

Moxley inducted Yuta into the Blackpool Combat Club following their match on the April 8 episode of AEW Rampage in Boston, Massachusetts. For ROH Death Before Dishonor, AEW will be returning to Massachusetts but this time heading to Lowell.

Yuta reflected on the match and how he feels about returning to the area.

“Yeah, I’m really excited to be back in that area. Massachusetts will be in Lowell for Death Before Dishonor. And then right after that, we’ll be in Worcester for Dynamite. So I’m really excited for both of those.

“Before I got to AEW, I made a lot of my mark on the independents around that area. So it was really cool to have that match with Moxley in that crowd. Seeing a lot of familiar faces was really, it was really nice.

“And yeah, that was really the career-defining match. For me. It’s what sort of kick-started where we’re going now and I’m really excited for what the future holds, but it wouldn’t happen without that match,” the ROH Pure Champion said.

Yuta on his match with Jon Moxley

He continued to talk about working with Moxley and being in the ring with him, “Yeah, there’s something different when Moxley comes out. It’s kind of a surreal experience. And I felt that both from being in the ring watching it happening and then also as him as my teammate, so it’s very, it’s very comforting to have him on my side now instead of against me, but no, Moxley just brings things to another level. And he did that for me. He did that for me.

“And that match you mentioned before and I think he’s done that for a lot of people. He just had a match with Takeshita recently, that was awesome. And Moxley just, he’s got another gear that he’s trying to sort of impart that wisdom on me now.

So I think that’s my next thing is to find that next step that next level and guys like Moxley, Danielson, Castagnoli they all have. So that’s what I need to find.”

Training With The Blackpool Combat Club

He also was able to pull back the curtain and talk about what it is like to train with the Blackpool Combat Club.

He said, “Yeah, those training classes are a weekly occurrence. So we’re there every week. It’s Regal, it’s Bryan, it’s the BCC and we’re running class, we’re training, we’re learning.

“And yeah, that’s something they really instill is you have to prepare. So every little piece of information they can give me I try to get and we do that every week.”

Yuta continued and shared some lessons he’s learned from the group so far:

“Yeah, there’s, there’s countless like little techniques that they’ve shown me and I could go on for days about that. But I think the main thing that we’ve we’ve talked about is just the mindset of knowing that when you’re in the ring, you’re trying to hurt that guy.

For us in the Blackpool Combat Club, our thing’s we’re trying to leave a mark on you, trying to leave a scar.

“So whether it’s, you know, a literal scar that you see on your forehead, or maybe it’s a limp, maybe it’s something that you get up every day and you go, ‘Oh, wow, I wish those guys hadn’t done that.’ That’s the mindset. So that’s what we really try to focus on. And that’s, that’s been the biggest lesson they’ve taught me.”

Participating In Blood & Guts

Lastly, Yuta reflected on participating in Blood & Guts a few weeks back. He talked about preparing for and recovering from the brutal match.

He said, “Yeah, the recovery was definitely hard, just a lot of kind of waiting for things to heal. But getting prepared for that match was just knowing that you’re going into a fight, knowing that you’re gonna have to, you’re gonna have to hurt people, you’re gonna get hurt, it’s not going to be fun. You’re just going to have to go in there and give it all you got. So just having that mentality going in, I think was the biggest thing.

“We’ve done all the physical preparation, we’ve done everything we can do. So going into that match, it was just the mental preparation of knowing not to be scared by the structure, just knowing you’re gonna get hurt, but you’re going to hurt people. And I think that’s how we want.”
