Watch Roman Reigns’ Return at Saturday’s WWE Live Event

0

Roman Reigns is WWE’s reigning Undisputed Universal Championship, and has decimated the competition over the past two years.

Reigns’ list of victims is a who’s who of WWE, with names including John Cena, Bray Wyatt, and Goldberg all falling to the “Tribal Chief.”

As the unquestionable top star of WWE, matches featuring Reigns have become rarer and rarer but he returned to the ring this weekend.

Reigns Back in the Ring

Earlier this year, Roman Reigns signed a lucrative new deal with WWE, one that has seen him compete in far fewer matches.

Reigns’ most recent televised match was nearly a month ago, where he defeated Riddle on the June 17, 2022 SmackDown to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

The Champ broke his hiatus from the ring last night, competing at the July 9, WWE Live Event in Sacramento, California. Unsurprisingly, Reigns headlined the event, successfully defending his title against Drew McIntyre.

Roman Reigns is the top heel in all of pro wrestling, but he once again broke character and delivered a heartfelt message to the fans in attendance after his match.

Below, you can see footage of Reigns addressing the audience at WWE Sacrameno:

What Else Happened?

Having the “Head of the Table” was a rarity, but it wasn’t all that happened on the show.

The show opened with Intercontinental Champion Gunther retaining his title against Ricochet, followed by a Triple Threat in which Raquel Rodriguez defeated Shayna Baszler and Lacey Evans.

The Viking Raiders defeated Jinder Mahal and Shanky while Happy Corbin got a win over Drew Gulak.

SmackDown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan retained against Natalya and Ronda Rousey and Madcap Moss defeated Humberto.

In the penultimate match, there was a triple threat for the Undisptued Tag Team Titles that saw the current champions The Usos take on The New Day and The Brawling Brutes, with The Usos retaining.

(Exclusive) Killer Kelly Details ‘Exhausting’ WWE Experience

0

Impact Wrestling star Killer Kelly had a short (and strange) experience working for WWE. She was offered a contract during her rookie year in the wrestling industry. She made her debut at the inaugural NXT UK event. Kelly also took part in the 2018 Mae Young Classic where she lost in the first round.

Unfortunately, WWE did not use her much beyond that. The young star was occasionally used to put some other talents over before being released from her contract in January 2020.

Killer Kelly spoke with SEScoops this past week to discuss her absence from Impact for the past 2 years, her new persona and more. She also opened up about her time in the Vince McMahon owned promotion.

Watch Killer Kelly’s interview with Steve Fall for SEScoops below, followed by highlights from the conversation.

Why Killer Kelly said yes to a WWE contract with very little experience:

“So I had a good and somewhat bad experience [in WWE]. As soon as I got offered that contract. I said ‘Yes, like 100% Yes, because WWE is the dream.’ It was what I grew up watching. I was like ‘Ok, this is the thing that I want to do.’ But at the same time, I was just coming up as a professional wrestler. Basically, within the year that I decided to take a chance on myself and move to Germany to train to become professional wrestler, do this professionally. I got offered the contract. It was like everything at the same time. I had no time to read, to think, to do anything. So I felt like that came too soon to me. Because WWE was the dream. I didn’t even think about anything. I just said yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. I never stood up for myself. I was afraid to give ideas. I was afraid of doing basically anything. I was walking on eggshells all the time because I was afraid of messing that up.”

Her exhausting WWE experience due to mental health issues:

“The whole experience being like that, and now knowing of my mental issues that I have. Anxiety, depression, ADHD, all of that exhausted me mentally, to the point that I wasn’t enjoying my time in WWE. I didn’t enjoy it at all. Because I was so stressed. I was so anxious all the time. I had everything. I could have had a blast there. But I didn’t because of my brain. So that kind of sucks. It sucks that I wasn’t on medication early. It sucks that I didn’t know about that. So that whole experience was very exhausting for me. But other than that, I have nothing bad to say about WWE. It was just my brain. It was my brain. I didn’t have the spotlight on me but I enjoyed my position. They basically gave me matches to make the other people shine. So that means that they have the stress on me that I can help them shine, help them achieve whatever they need to. That was kind of an honor.”

If Killer Kelly had any problems with her WWE spot:

“I was happy with my place there. But then brain didn’t let me enjoy anything. I didn’t have the, I don’t want to say the guts, the mental capacity of saying what I wanted to do. [To share] any ideas. [To] actually have fun with it, which is what I’m currently doing with impact. My brain, it’s not 100% good, but it’s good. I am still anxious all the time. I’m still nervous, but that’s because I love wrestling. Now I feel like I could show my full potential and enjoy. Really, really enjoy what I’m doing and just be myself. I’m so excited about it.”

Details on Ava Raine’s First Live Promo at Saturday’s NXT Live Event

0

Ava Raine appeared at Saturday night’s NXT 2.0 live event from Orlando, Florida and cut her first promo in front of a live crowd.

Raine, the daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, impressed fans who were in attendance for this historic moment in her young career.

Raine came to the ring exuding confidence and immediately put the NXT women’s roster on notice. She dubbed herself “The Final Girl” and ran down Cora Jade and the other female competitors in WWE’s developmental program.

Here are some photos from Ava Raine’s first live promo in NXT 2.0:

The Rock is considered one of the best trash talkers in wrestling history, so it should come as no surprise that Raine can hold her own on the mic.

We will update this article if video from Ava Raine’s first promo gets posted online.

In addition to cutting her first live promo on Saturday night, Raine also appeared at Friday’s NXT show from Citrus Springs, FL. She came down to ringside during one of the women’s matches, apparently scouting her competition.

Raine is a 4th generation Superstar and has big shoes to fill. It will be interesting to track her progress in the months ahead.

Rhea Ripley Reveals She’s Now Wearing a Heart Monitor

0

WWE has been plagued with a series of injuries in recent weeks which has kept a lot of top stars out of action.

Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton are just two names who are hurt, and it’s not just the men’s division missing out.

Rhea Ripley is also on the shelf, having suffered a brain injury, but the former Raw Women’s Champion may be dealing with another medical issue.

The Heart Monitor

On Instagram, Ripley showed off the new heart monitor she is now wearing but did not specify the reason.

Typically, heart monitors are used to detect and record any irregularities in the heart.

Seeing the funny side of things, Ripley joked that she’s now Iron Man, the MARVEL Comics character who uses a device on his chest to keep himself alive.

Bad Timing for Rhea Ripley

Ripley’s injury could arguably not come at a worse time for her character.

Mere weeks before her injury, the Australian Superstar had been revealed as a new member of The Judgment Day, which turned on Edge shortly before her injury.

Despite an initial strong start, The Judgment Day has struggled on WWE TV since Ripley’s absence, with Finn Balor and Damian Priest losing both matches since Rhea’s injury, albeit by disqualification.

Ripley had also been next in line for a Raw Women’s Championship match, but was pulled from the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event due to her injury.

Naomi Says She is Tired of Being Taken Advantage Of

0

It’s been nearly two months now since Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of WWE Raw over a creative difference with the planned main event.

The then-WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions believed that the main event, which would have seen Naomi earn a Raw Women’s Title match, lessened the importance of their tag titles.

Since then, the duo has been suspended without pay, and WWE has done all they can to distance themselves from the pair.

Naomi’s Comment

Naomi worked for WWE for over a decade on TV before her suspension and has seemingly grown tired of the way talent are being treated.

In an Instagram Story, the former SmackDown Women’s Champion didn’t mention WWE by name but had some choice comments about being taken advantage of.

“The moment you stop people from taking advantage of you and disrespecting you is when they define you as tough, selfish or crazy. Manipulators hate boundaries.”

Naomi.

Fans were quick to assume that Naomi was speaking about WWE given how the company has treated her in recent months.

Will Naomi go?

While it has been reported that Sasha Banks has been released by WWE, Naomi is seemingly still with the company.

The big question now is will she go, as her contract is reportedly set to expire later this year.

It’s always worth considering that Naomi is married to Jimmy Uso, and that being part (albeit indirectly) of the Bloodline carries some significant influence.

The last thing WWE wants to do is draw the ire of Roman Reigns should they release his cousin’s wife.

(Exclusive) Killer Kelly Reveals Why She’s Been Missing From Impact For 2 Years

0

The wrestling career of Killer Kelly has been a roller coaster ride. She was offered a WWE contract not long after she decided to pursue a career in wrestling in her mid-20s. She competed in NXT UK. She also took part in the 2018 Mae Young Classic before getting released in 2020.

Kelly then made her debut for Impact Wrestling. It looked like she was finally ready to make her mark but she then disappeared from Impact for two years. The former wXw Women’s Championship recently spoke to SEScoops about her contractual status and more.

Watch Killer Kelly’s interview with Steve Fall for SEScoops:

Under Contract with Impact for Past 2 Years

Kelly revealed that she was offered an Impact contract on the day she made her debut on November 24, 2020. Furthermore, she revealed that she has been contracted for the past two years:

“Well, it was exactly on that day. On that same day that I wrestled, I got offered a deal. So I’ve been contracted for the past two years.”

When Fall inquired about the reason for her absence from Impact programming, Killer Kelly revealed that it was due to Visa issues. She had to go back to her home country of Portugal shortly after her Impact debut. Unfortunately for Kelly, this is when the Coronavirus struck and she got stuck there:

“Well, you have to ask the good ol’ United States of America (why she hasn’t been wrestling). Its legalities, legalities, legalities…It was a very tedious process, which impact dealt with wonderfully. They took care of everything, but it was a horrible process. They were wonderful about it. After they offered the contract, I had to go back to Portugal. Then I was stuck in Portugal.

They did everything in their power to get me out of Portugal. It was a visa process that started in Portugal, and then it didn’t pan out. Then I had to come to the United States and start all over again. It was a whole process. But finally, I can say that I’m part of Impact. I can finally work and I am excited.”

Killer Kelly’s Struggle With Mental Health Issues

killer kelly 2

Being stuck at home and not being able to compete was a horrible experience for Killer Kelly. It was during this time she found out that she had ADHD, in addition to being diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression:

“It was terrible. It was horrible. Well, at least I sought some help. I finally found out that I had severe depression, severe anxiety. Most recently, I found out that I have ADHD. So that really helped me to finally seek out mental health help. But the whole waiting, the whole being locked. It was a very horrible experience.

It really put me down. I was in lower than rock bottom. It was just awful. Without my husband, without his help and without impact, I don’t know what I would do. Impact was beyond professional, beyond professional… They were amazing, dealing with everything.”

The good news is that Killer Kelly is now back in the United States and she is ready to compete in Impact again. The July 7 episode of the show featured a vignette teasing her return with a new persona.

Tony Khan Promises AEW’s Next Media Rights Deal Will Be “Historic”

0

Tony Khan hints that AEW is on the verge of a historic media rights deal.

The AEW President sat down with the New York Post to hype the promotion’s success since their inception in 2019, which saw Khan secure a massive deal with Warner Media, one that helped them survive during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

When speaking about his current broadcast relationship, which now includes Warner Bros. and Discovery, Khan had the following to say:

“I’m incredibly grateful every day that AEW has this great relationship with Warner Bros. Discovery and we’ve done well for TBS and TNT with “Dynamite” and “Rampage” where we’re a strong performer for Warner Bros. Discovery on a weekly basis.”

However, Khan is always looking towards the future as his company continues to grow in scope. He states that AEW’s supportive fanbase are to thank for potentially securing them a new deal down the line.

“I do believe our future media rights will be important and frankly a very large revenue stream for AEW going forward, and I think that’s because of the great support we’ve had from the fans and the hard work of everybody backstage and the wrestlers every Wednesday and Friday, pulling it together and delivering great shows.”

Regarding a new media rights deal…Khan promises that history will be made in the pro-wrestling circuit once again.

“Whenever our next media right deal, the next one does kick in, it will be historic. It will be recorded in history because everything in wrestling is recorded in history into posterity. It will make history however it goes. Right now, everyone would expect very, very well. We expect it’s going to go very well for us based on how strong we’ve been performing.”

Khan will continue to do interviews to promote AEW’s upcoming Fyter Fest television special. Stay tuned.

Kofi Kingston is Ready to Walk Through the Forbidden Door

0

Having debuted on the main roster in 2008, Kofi Kingston is one of WWE’s most veteran Superstars and has faced several big names.

Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, and Roman Reigns are just some of the Superstars Kingston has faced throughout his highly-successful 14-year career with WWE.

Kingston is both a WWE triple-crown and Grand Slam champion, but there’s a lot that Kofi hasn’t done in his career yet.

Kingston through the Forbidden Door

Kofi Kingston may have faced some of WWE’s biggest stars of the modern era, but there are plenty of names the former World Champion has never faced.

MJF, Will Ospreay, and Kenny Omega are just some of the big names Kingston has never stepped foot in the ring with.

While speaking with Sebastian Hackl for WWE Deutschland, Kofi was asked about the ‘Forbidden Door’ which has allowed wrestlers to compete for other companies, and whether he’d be interested in stepping through (via Sportskeeda.)

“Yeah, I mean there’s a lot, I think more so now. Well, you know, since Mickie James came to the Rumble right, the quote-on-quote ‘Forbidden Door, that was never to be talked about, was opened. So, there’s a lot of different people from a lot of different promotions that are incredibly talented that I would love to mix it up with and have matches with for sure.”

“There’s a lot of different people from a lot of different promotions that are incredibly talented that I would love to mix it up with.”

Kofi Kingston

While WWE did allow Mickie James, an Impact Wrestling star to compete at this year’s Royal Rumble Premium Live Event, there’s been no word of a fully-fledged event featuring WWE talent wrestling those from another company.

Notable Debut Teased At NXT Live Event

0

The debut of a long-awaited NXT wrestler was teased at the July 8 NXT house show.

Debut Teased

During Friday’s NXT live event, Ava Raine, aka Simone Johnson, daughter of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, made an appearance. The show took place in Citrus Springs, Florida.

Ava was spotted scouting out the talent during a women’s match. She emerged from the bak, walked around the ring, and promptly left. It wasn’t specified or revealed what match Raine was scouting or the talent involved.

Ava has not yet made her WWE in-ring debut. She received her new WWE ring name in late May. Last month, she showed off a new look that led to fans speculating about her wrestling debut.

Two women’s matches took place at the Citrus Springs live event. Tiffany Stratton defeated Amari Miller in a singles match. The NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Roxanne Perez & Cora Jade got a win over Jacy Jayne & Gigi Dolin of Toxic Attraction.

The Undertaker Explains “Never Say Never” Line During WWE Hall Of Fame Speech

0

Earlier this year WWE inducted one of their biggest superstars of all-time into their Hall of Fame , the Undertaker. The Deadman has provided fans with some of the most memorable moments in the company’s long history, and his induction was a fitting cap on what was a legendary career.

Undertaker recently sat-down with Bleacher Report to discuss his speech, and address some certain questions and criticisms that came because of it.

At one point the former multi-time world champion dropped the line “never say never” when talking about whether he would ever step into the ring again after his appropriate cinematic send off with AJ Styles back at WrestleMania 36. Taker explains that while he has no aspiration of returning he believes that WWE is a place where anything can happen.

“Just the fact you asked that question, mission accomplished. You never say never. I don’t have aspirations of ever stepping into the ring again, but this is the WWE, man. You never say never. You just never say never.”

One person who thought the line was a little too much was Taker’s longtime fried and boss, Vince McMahon

“I thought it was a great button that I can put on that and for that very reason. That was a little bit for Vince, too.”

Taker would then go on to discuss the minor backlash he received for omitting a few names during his speech, particularly Mick Foley, whom he has had many iconic moments and matches with.

“ I did get a little bit of, ‘I can’t believe you didn’t mention Mick Foley.’ I’ve talked about Mick Foley until I’m blue in the gills. I love Mick Foley. I think what we did will outlive the test of time as far as our angle.”

He would explain that he didn’t purposefully leave certain names out, but that he was just conveying his 30-plus year journey to the WWE Universe. However, he knows how it could seem like a jab so he does apologize to those he forgot to mention.

“But then I can talk about Edge and so on. I haven’t talked to any of those guys. I hope they didn’t get their feelings hurt, but it wasn’t about all that. It was about my journey and the things I’ve learned through those 30-plus years that I was trying to share and help people in their lives and thank the WWE Universe. That’s what it was all about. If anyone was offended, I’m sorry.”

Finally…Taker discusses why he make a large portion of the speech about Shawn Michaels and Triple H.

“It was more about those three pillars I referenced back when I’m talking about Shawn [Michaels], that had a direct meaning to never being content. That’s why I talked so much about Shawn then, Triple H.”

Undertaker was also promoting his upcoming biography special on A&E.

Vince McMahon’s demeanor at SmackDown, WWE budget cuts & more

Some backstage notes from the July 8 episode of WWE SmackDown have surfaced.

The latest edition of the blue brand’s show emanated from Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, TX. Fans got to see the return of WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns, who received quite the pep talk from his Special Counsel Paul Heyman.

Also featured on the show was a rematch between Ronda Rousey and Natalya. Shinsuke Nakamura took on Ludwig Kaiser, while Drew McIntyre mixed it up with Butch.

There were some key things to note behind the scenes.

Vince McMahon Avoids Controversial Topic

Hours before SmackDown went on the air, The Wall Street Journal reported more hush pacts involving Vince McMahon and four other women.

One female is allegedly a former WWE talent who was coerced into giving Vince oral sex, demoted, and then wasn’t re-signed in 2005 once she declined further sexual advances.

PWInsider reports that while backstage at SmackDown this week, Vince didn’t address the latest report. Sources told PWInsider that the feeling behind the scenes was Vince avoiding the “elephant in the room.”

Budget Cuts Negatively Impact SmackDown

WWE producer Jason Jordan wasn’t backstage for SmackDown as he and his wife are expecting a baby any moment now. Adam Pearce filled in for him.

Budget cuts have also made it difficult for producers. Joe Hennig (Curtis Axel) and Ariya Daivari haven’t been brought in for work due to the budget cuts. They had been appearing on a probationary basis.

This has caused a lot of strain on producers as the workload is mounting.

Other Notes

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were not backstage for SmackDown this week. Bruce Prichard returned after spending some time away to recover from surgery.

Tony Khan Provides Update On AEW Star’s Status

0

AEW Founder and Owner Tony Khan took to Twitter to address the status of a popular AEW roster member.

The July 8 episode of AEW Rampage saw Eddie Kingston take on Konosuke Takeshita, featured a major Ring of Honor heel turn, set up a feature championship match, and had a great main event with Tony Nese vs Orange Cassidy.

Tony Khan Claps Back

Last night, following an eventually episode of AEW Rampage, one fan on Twitter responded to one of Khan’s tweets. The fan responded to inquire about the absence of Penelope Ford by claiming that Tony and AEW had “given up on Penelope Ford.”

Tony shut down the claim by providing an update on her status. Khan wrote:

“Not at all, total opposite in fact; she’s a great wrestler, and I can’t wait until she’s medically cleared to come back. She’s been in some classic @AEW matches, and hopefully she’ll be in many more!”

2022 Record

Penelope Ford has competed in two matches in 2022. She is currently 2-0 for the year 2022. Both of her matches took place in January. Her last match took place on January 15, 2022 at a set of AEW Dark tapings. She also competed on the January 14 edition of Rampage when she teamed with The Bunny and Nyla Rose to defeat Kris Statlander, Leyla Hirsch & Red Velvet.

We at SEScoops wish Penelope Ford a healthy and speedy recovery!

Tony Khan Rules out Location for Future AEWxNJPW Forbidden Door Events

0

Last month, AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling hosted their Forbidden Door Pay Per View, which proved to be a hit with fans.

The show saw Jay White retain his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, while Jon Moxley captured the Interim AEW World Championship.

Unsurprisingly, the show’s success has led to talks of subsequent Forbidden Door shows,

Location, Location, Location

Forbidden Door took place at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, despite a ton of talent coming from New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Of course, only one country could host Forbidden Door, and on this occasion, that was the U.S.

While speaking to the New York Post about the future of the show, Tony Khan vowed that despite New Japan’s influence, Forbidden Door will never go overseas.

“The idea of doing an event over there with AEW stars and New Japan stars is very potentially interesting, but if it happens it won’t be Forbidden Door. Forbidden Door is gonna stay in North America. It wouldn’t make sense with the time zones, the revenue.”

Khan has vowed that Forbidden Door will become an annual event.

Exceeding Expectations

It should come as no surprise that Khan is already making plans for a second Forbidden Door Pay Per View.

Speaking on the post-Forbidden Door media scrum, Khan said the show was a financial hit, exceeding over $1.1 million in ticket sales.

Khan also said that surpassing 100,000 Pay Per View buys, which he believes happened, is a success for the show.

What Did Bray Wyatt tell Alexa Bliss Before his WWE Release?

0

In July 2021, WWE shocked fans by releasing Bray Wyatt, bringing the three-time former World Champion’s lengthy run with the company to an end.

Since returning as the leader of the Firefly Fun House in 2019, Wyatt had become one of the company’s most popular stars, and that support only grew after the debut of his ‘The Fiend’ alter-ego.

Prior to his release, Wyatt worked closely with Alexa Bliss on-screen, who had been corrupted by his dark character.

Bliss would ultimately turn on Wyatt, costing him his match against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 37, Bray’s most recent match to date.

Bray’s Last Words

After Wyatt was released, many fans got angry at Alexa Bliss, who they accused of having ‘stolen’ The Fiend character from him.

While Bliss did keep using her ‘Dark Alexa’ persona, this wasn’t a dig at Wyatt.

Instead, the former Raw Women’s Champion explained to Metro UK how Wyatt gave her some sage words of wisdom prior to his release (via Wrestling Inc.)

“Before he left, he just said, ‘Keep it alive, keep it going’, so I took that to heart and tried to keep it alive and going.”

Alexa Bliss shares Bray Wyatt’s last words to her,

Bliss has since ditched the ‘Dark Alexa’ persona but still carries Lilly to the ring.

Bray’s Next Move

Bray Wyatt hasn’t wrestled or even appeared for any other company since his WWE release which took place nearly one year ago.

However, Wyatt has said he “often” thinks about his return to wrestling, and has insisted that he’s not done in the ring yet.

Shawn Michaels Explains How Bret Hart Rivalry Turned Into Shoot

0

Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels is one of the most infamous rivalries of the wrestling world. What started as a kayfabe feud between two of WWE’s top stars, quickly turned into a shoot. It ultimately led to the Montreal Screwjob, which is still talked about to this day.

Michaels recently had an interview with 98.7 ESPN where he opened up about his feud with The Hitman. HBK first claimed that it was not fun for him before admitting that he was very immature at the time:

“Oh, well, I will say this. Going through it was absolutely no fun. Because even in the world of sports entertainment, there’s real life rivalries. Certainly Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels was real both on and off the screen. I was very young and very stupid, very immature. [I] was as cocky as the day is long and that did not get over well. Let’s just put it that way.”

‘Working Ourselves Into A Shoot’: Shawn Michaels

micheals hart

Shawn Michaels then explained how this on-screen feud led to real-life tensions between him and his greatest rival. The former world champion claimed that they were friendly at first. When they started feuding, they decided to make it feel real. However, before they knew it, Michaels and Hart had worked themselves into a shoot:

“So honestly, we started out I would say friendly. We never hung out. But when we were in tag teams, we worked really well with each other, admired one another. Bret and I both felt that one day that we would be able to go singles. I can remember Bret went singles, and I went singles shortly after that. I can remember him telling me one time. He’s like, ‘look, I see you being the guy that I could eventually drop this title to.’

I just think it came sooner than maybe he expected and certainly sooner than I expected. That’s honestly when it happened. It first started out as just sincerely us talking about just trying to make it feel real. It just slowly got to be that way to where I don’t know, I guess both of us were taking jabs that were real but we then started to really be offended by it. It’s a hard thing to describe, we call it working ourselves into a shoot.”

Eddie connected with a Gutwrench Suplex but grabbed his own back in pain after the move. Kingston bought himself some time with a poke to the eye and some chops in the corner of the ring. Takeshita tried to battle back but Kingston caught him with a headbutt.

When Rampage returned, Kingston and Takeshita battled on the ring apron. Eddie went for an Exploder Suplex but Takeshita blocked it. Konosuke hit a German Suplex and went for another one but Eddie escaped. Kingston then planted Takeshita with an Exploder Suplex on the floor outside the ring.

Eddie went for Backfist to the Future but Konosuke dodged it. Takeshita planted Eddie with a Brainbuster and went for the cover but Kingston kicked out at two. They traded punches again from the middle of the ring before Eddie connected with Backfist to the Future for the pinfall victory.

Gates of Agony def. Lee Moriarty & Jonathan Gresham

Gates of Agony (Toa Liona and Kaun) battled ROH Champion Jonathan Gresham and Lee Moriarty tonight on Rampage. Toa and Kaun attacked before the match. Kaun connected with a Senton on Lee for a near fall.

Tully Blanchard distracted Gresham outside the ring as Lee was looking for a tag. Liona connected with a Samoan Drop but Lee was able to kick out at two. When Rampage returned from a break, Moriarty battled back with a Dropkick. Lee looked for a tag but Gresham betrayed him and shared a hug with Tully Blanchard. Kaun planted Lee with a Gutbuster for the pinfall victory.

Gresham and Blanchard were then interviewed backstage by Tony Schiavone. Gresham claimed that Lee is not his partner and added that he will defend the ROH Championship against Moriarty next week on Rampage. Lee Moriarty was later interviewed backstage by Lexy Nair. Sydal called what it “dishonorable” what Gresham did tonight. Lee vowed to win the ROH Championship next week.

Deeb & Martinez Picked Up A Win

Mercedes Martinez and Serena Deeb battled Christina Marie & Kayla Sparks tonight on Rampage. Deeb dominated the match early and took Marie down to the mat. Marie battled to her feet but Serena beat her down in the corner.

Martinez tagged in and delivered a knee strike to Marie’s face. Mercedes connected with a Clothesline as Deeb tagged herself in. Serena applied the Serenity Lock and Christina Marie quickly tappled out.

Orange Cassidy def. Tony Nese

Before the main event, a ridiculous main event was announced for the July 20th edition of AEW Dynamite. Eddie Kingston will face Chris Jericho in a Barbed Wire Death Match. Jericho Appreciation Society will be suspended above the ring in a shark cage for the match during Night 2 of Fyter Fest.

Mark Henry interviewed both wrestlers backstage before the main event.

Orange Cassidy battled Tony Nese in the main event of this week’s Rampage. Danhausen and Mark Sterling were ringside for the match. Orange Cassidy went to put his hands in his pockets but Tony Nese blocked him.

Tony connected with a shoulder tackle that knocked Cassidy over. Orange hopped up and put his hands in his pockets. Nese charged but Cassidy caught him with a Dropkick and then an elbow to the face.

Cassidy rolled Nese up for a near fall and the match continued. Nese connected with a Gutbuster and went for the cover but Orange was able to kick out. Mark Sterling got in a cheap shot but Danhausen chased him around the ring as Rampage went to the final commercial break of the night.

When Rampage returned, Tony connected with a Northern Lights Suplex for a near fall. Mark Sterling went for a distraction on the ring apron but Danhausen pulled him down. Nese leveled Danhausen with a baseball slide but then turned around into a Crossbody from Orange Cassidy.

Back in the ring, Cassidy connected with the Stundog Millionaire and followed it up with a Michinoku Driver for a two count. Nese went for a Powerslam but Orange countered into a DDT for another near fall.

Mark Sterling got up on the apron once again and Cassidy hit the lazy kicks. Mark hopped around like they hurt and Nese capitalized with a Piledriver for a two count. Tony pulled his knee pad down but Orange dodged the knee strike. Mark Sterling tried to interfere yet again but Danhausen broke it up. Cassidy then caught Nese with the Orange Punch for the pinfall victory.

Watch What Happened With Theory After WWE SmackDown Went Off The Air

WWE SmackDown has wrapped up but fans inside Dickies Arena got to see a dark match.

This week’s episode featured the return of WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns. We also witnessed the heel turn of Lacey Evans as she buried the fans due to lukewarm reactions and nailed Aliyah with the Women’s Right.

Newly crowned SmackDown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan also appeared and addressed the WWE Universe.

Once Cameras Stopped Rolling

Once the FOX broadcast went off the air, fans in Fort Worth, TX were treated to a special match. It was WWE United States Champion Bobby Lashley taking on Money in the Bank briefcase holder Theory.

Lashley ended up winning the match and high-fived the fans on his way out of the arena.

A championship rematch between Lashley and Theory is set for WWE SummerSlam on July 30. Lashley defeated Theory at MITB on July 2 to capture the WWE United States Championship.

WWE SmackDown Superstar Turns Heel

A WWE SmackDown talent has turned heel.

The face and heel turns continue throughout the wrestling business. During the July 8 episode of WWE SmackDown, we got another superstar moving over to the dark side.

At first, it seemed that this superstar was going to be pushed as a face after initial reports. It looks like the original plan has materialized, however.

This heel turn won’t come as a surprise as it wasn’t a matter of “if” but “when.”

Lacey Evans Turns Heel

Lacey Evans was expected to be in a tag team match with Aliyah. Lacey made her entrance but wasn’t fond of the lack of crowd reaction.

She made two more entrance attempts but by that point, fans started booing her.

Evans got on the mic and said she was disgusted by fans inside Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, TX. She talked about pouring her heart out to the fans for a lame reaction and “What” chants.

Evans also claimed that the WWE Universe is weak and can’t handle half of what she’s been through. She said that until she gets the respect she deserves, WWE fans can “go to hell.”

Lacey then nailed Aliyah with the Women’s Right.

For weeks, WWE aired vignettes of Lacey Evans telling her real-life story of going from tragedy to triumph. It was the perfect story for a babyface but reports suggested Evans would be a heel.

Upon her return, WWE treated Lacey as a face but the fans never truly got behind her. This was evident but the negative crowd reaction to her at Money in the Bank.

Brock Lesnar’s Return Date Before SummerSlam Set

Brock Lesnar will be making at least one more appearance before SummerSlam.

WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns put his gold on the line against Riddle in the main event of the June 17 episode of SmackDown. After some thrilling action, Reigns caught Riddle midair with a Spear for the three-count.

After the match, Reigns said there was no one left and that he was going back home. Lesnar’s music hit and he ended up taking out The Bloodline.

The match was set for SummerSlam shortly after and it’ll be Last Man Standing.

Brock Lesnar Set For Raw

During the recent edition of SmackDown, WWE announced that Brock Lesnar will be making an appearance on the July 11 episode of Monday Night Raw.

This will be Lesnar’s first sighting on WWE TV since delivering an F5 to Reigns last month. Roman recently appeared on SmackDown and received a pep talk from his Special Counsel Paul Heyman.

WWE is billing the Last Man Standing match as Brock’s last chance to take WWE’s biggest prize from Roman.

Heyman recently put over the stipulation, saying Reigns will have to turn in the greatest performance of his career to keep Lesnar down for the 10-count.

WWE SummerSlam will take place on July 30 inside Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

Netflix’s Vince McMahon Project Has Been Scrapped (Report)

0

Following two reports by the Wall Street Journal in the last month, Netflix has reportedly scrapped a documentary planned about the life and career of Vince McMahon.

Denise Salcedo reported Friday evening that the McMahon Netflix documentary has been pulled and is off the programming spreadsheet at Netflix. One source at Netflix confirmed it is no longer being listed on their spreadsheet, while another source at Netflix said, “that s**t’s out of here.”

Another source indicated the project had already been “deep” in post-production with several talent interviews conducted months ago, and millions were spent on the project.

WWE first announced during its third-quarter 2020 financials call that they’ve teamed up with Netflix to air a docuseries on the life and career of McMahon.

Bill Simmons served as the executive producer, while Chris Smith, best known from Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, was the director. At the time, WWE touted it as the highest-budgeted Netflix docuseries of all time.

The first report by the Wall Street Journal came out about McMahon allegedly paying a former $3 million in a settlement to stay quiet regarding their sexual relations. The Board of WWE is also investigating other nondisclosure agreements involving misconduct claims made by former female WWE employees about McMahon and WWE’s head of talent relations John Laurinaitis.

McMahon was in the headlines again after The Wall Street Journal reported he paid $12 million in hush money to four women in the past 16 years.

WWE SmackDown Results (7/8/22): Roman Reigns Returns, Liv Morgan & Ronda Rousey, Drew McIntyre

0

WWE SmackDown aired live this week from the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Tonight’s episode was the first episode of SmackDown following WWE Money in the Bank.

WWE SmackDown Results (7/8)

  • Viking Raiders def. Jinder Mahal & Shanky
  • Shinsuke Nakamura def. Ludwig Kaiser
  • Ronda Rousey def. Natalya via submission
  • The Usos def. Los Lotharios in a Championship Contender’s match
  • Drew McIntyre def. Butch

Here are the takeaways from this week’s show:

Theory Interrupted Roman Reigns

WWE SmackDown kicked off with Michael Cole and Corey Graves hyping the show. Graves noted that Pat McAfee is not here tonight and will have more on that story going forward. Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns returned and made his way to the ring with The Bloodline and his special counsel, Paul Heyman. The entrance was a long one and SmackDown went to a break as Reigns got into the ring.

Roman Reigns and The Bloodline stood in the ring as the crowd booed. The crowd then chanted “you suck!” for a bit and Reigns looked pissed. Heyman handed Roman a microphone and he asked the crowd to acknowledge him. The crowd had a mixed reaction but Roman noted that business picks up when The Tribal Chief is around.

Reigns asked why Heyman looks so worried and instructed Paul to put his hand out. Heyman took the microphone and instructed Roman that he had to become a savage to keep Brock Lesnar down at WWE SummerSlam. Heyman continued to hype The Tribal Chief up until his theme played. Theory’s music then hit and he jogged around the ring with the Money in the Bank briefcase to end the segment.

Viking Raiders Destroyed New Day

Viking Raiders battled Jinder Mahal and Shanky tonight on SmackDown and won the match in quick fashion. Viking Raiders sent Shanky out of the ring and planted Mahal with a double Powerbomb for the pinfall victory. Erik and Ivar dominated before New Day interrupted. Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston revealed “officially sanctioned” ass-kicking tickets and vowed to give Viking Raiders the whooping that the deserve. Kofi and Xavier rushed the ring but Viking Raiders beat them down. Ivar planted Kofi with a Powerslam off the middle rope to end the segment. Happy Corbin joined commentary and mocked Pat McAfee for not being here.

Gunther Was Disappointed With Ludwig Kaiser

Ludwig Kaiser and Intercontinental Champion Gunther made their way to the ring for a promo. The crowd mercilessly booed them during the promo and they shouted over the frequent “what?!” chants as well. Shinsuke Nakamura interrupted and Happy Corbin mocked Pat McAfee once again by dancing around.

Nakamura battled Ludwig Kaister tonight and Gunther was ringside. Ludwig controlled the match but Shinsuke was able to battle back. Shinsuke leveled Ludwig with the Kinshasa for the pinfall victory. After the match, Gunther scolded Ludwig Kaiser in the middle of the ring. Gunther lit his chest up with some chops and barked at him to get back up. Gunther hit another chop and Kaiser stayed down as the Intercontinental Champion stared at him.

Ronda Rousey def. Natalya

SmackDown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan made her way to the ring for an interview with Michael Cole. He noted that Ronda Rousey probably would like a rematch at SummerSlam and Liv simply said “bring it”.

Liv stated that winning the MITB ladder match and capturing the SmackDown Women’s Championship from Ronda Rousey on the same night was the culmination of her life’s hard work. She added that she is willing to work even harder to remain at the top.

Natalya interrupted and told Liv to shut up. Natalya took credit for softening up Ronda Rousey for Liv and claimed that her Cinderella story will end at SummerSlam.

Ronda Rousey joined the party and made her way down the entrance ramp with a limp. Ronda congratulated Liv Morgan but warned her that defending the title is a lot harder than winning it, and vowed to prove that SummerSlam. Natalya attacked from behind but Liv made the save. Liv Morgan and Ronda Rousey had a stare-down to end the segment.

Ronda Rousey then battled Natalya in a singles match. Rousey controlled the match early and Rousey retreated out of the ring. Ronda caught up to her and slammed her on the ring apron. Back in the ring, Rousey applied the Ankle Lock for the quick submission victory.

Maximum Male Models Unveiled Their Tennis Collection

Max Dupri came to the ring and claimed that last week’s Maximum Male Models debut was a viral sensation. Dupri said that the crowd was in for a treat tonight with the 2022 Tennis Collection.

Mace did the catwalk wearing a blue polo with white shorts. Dupri pointed out how impressive Mace’s physique looked in the outfit. Mansoor was next and was wearing a white shirt with blue sleeves and a headband. Max Dupri highlighted Mansoor’s physique again. He then thanked everyone for their attention to end the segment.

Lacey Evans Wants More Respect

Aliyah was in the ring and Lacey Evans made her entrance. Evans noted the negative response from the crowd and Lacey went backstage. Lacey made her entrance again and the crowd cheered but she wasn’t satisfied. Evans then said she is an American hero that put her life on the line and the fans can go to hell until she gets the respect she deserves. Aliyah stopped Lacey from going backstage again but Lacey hit her with the Woman’s Right to end the segment.

The Usos def. Los Lotharios In A Championship Contender’s Match

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey) battled Los Lotharios (Humberto & Angel)in a Championship Contender’s match. The Usos were in control as SmackDown went to a commercial break. When SmackDown returned Los Lotharios battled back and booted the Undisputed Tag Team Champions out of the ring.

Jimmy and Jey battled back and isolated Humerto in the ring. Jey leveled Humberto with a Superkick and The Usos followed it up with the 1D for the pinfall victory. Thus, Los Lotharios will not get a title shot. After the match, Kayla Braxton got in the ring and claimed that some are wondering if The Usos got away with one at Money in the Bank. She rolled footage of Montez Ford’s shoulder not being on the mat during the cover at the premium live event. The Usos claimed that isn’t on them, that is on the referee of the match. Kayla hinted that there might be a special referee for The Usos next match. The Usos suggested Roman Reigns to end the segment.

The Advertised Main Event Never Happened

Drew McIntyre was supposed to battle Sheamus in tonight’s main event. The winner of the match would get a shot at the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Clash at the Castle. Before the match, Sheamus came to the ring with Butch and Ridge Holland. Sheamus pretended to cough and said he has the “old COVID” in a remark that didn’t go over too well with fans watching the show.

Sheamus suggested an impromptu match against Butch. McIntyre leveled Butch with a Claymore for the quick pinfall victory. Ridge tried to attack him from behind but Drew fought Holland off. McIntyre then pointed Angela the sword at Sheamus and swung. Sheamus jumped out of the ring and Drew broke the top rope with the sword. Pyro then went off and that was the show. Sheamus vs. McIntyre will happen another time.

Vince McMahon’s Status for WWE SmackDown Tonight

The status of Vince McMahon for tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown has been revealed.

Vince has once again found himself in the headlines as The Wall Street Journal has issued another report revealing more nondisclosure agreements. McMahon allegedly paid $12 million in hush money to four women over the last 16 years.

The report notes that one former WWE talent allegedly refused further sexual advances after Vince coerced her into giving oral sex. The star in question was then said to have been demoted and WWE didn’t renew her contract in 2005 once sexual relations with Vince stopped.

Her settlement was for $7.5 million.

Vince McMahon’s WWE SmackDown Status

PWInsider is reporting that Vince McMahon is inside Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, TX for tonight’s (July 8) edition of Friday Night SmackDown.

Vince will be at the helm for his usual creative duties. There’s no word on whether or not he will be appearing on TV.

McMahon stepped back as the CEO and Chairman of WWE amid the board’s investigation into his first reported $3 million hush pact. While Stephanie McMahon is the interim CEO and Chairwoman, Vince has retained his duties on creative.

SEScoops will be providing live coverage of tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown, so be sure to keep it locked on the homepage for updates throughout the evening.

Visa Issues Prevented Star From Making AEW Debut

One star from a major promotion wasn’t able to make his planned AEW appearance.

Last month, the AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door crossover PPV took place inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. In the weeks leading up to the event, NJPW stars appeared on Dynamite and Rampage to hype up Forbidden Door.

Will Ospreay and other members of NJPW’s United Empire faction also made appearances. One notable name left off the shows, however, was Francesco Akira.

Why Francesco Akira Didn’t Appear on AEW TV

Francesco Akira had an interview with Cultaholic and when the topic of missing out on Forbidden Door and the weeks prior was brought up, Akira revealed that visa issues were to blame.

“There was [A plan to appear], but unfortunately we’re working on my visa stuff now, because I’ve never been to the U.S, but I just joined New Japan.

Francesco Akira on missing out on Forbidden Door month

There’s a process you need to do before getting to America. I think Forbidden Door was one of the greatest shows of the last ten years to me. Every match delivered, especially the United Empire matches.

“We’re working on it, I would love to come to America, especially for STRONG and defend [these] championship[s] too with TJP in America.”

With the amount of jaw-jacking Will Ospreay has done towards Kenny Omega, many are convinced that we have not seen the last of him or United Empire on AEW programming. This would be great news for Akira.

Undisputed WWE Tag Team Title Match Announced For SummerSlam 2022

0

Another match for the 2022 SummerSlam premium live event has been announced.

New Tag Title Match Announced

WWE has announced that The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) will defend their Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships against The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) at WWE SummerSlam.

The Usos defeated The Street Profits at WWE Money in the Bank. However, Montez’s shoulder was up during the pinfall, giving the Street Profits a valid reason for a rematch.

WWE had the following to say in their announcement post:

Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos say there isn’t a team in WWE who can beat them. After a controversial finish to their recent title matchup against The Street Profits at WWE Money in the Bank, however, their status as “Undisputed” has now come into question. And that question will be settled, one way or the other, in a rematch at SummerSlam!

The Usos have been on an absolute tear since becoming champions, overcoming the best that SmackDown has to offer in their record-setting reign, including unifying the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships against RK-Bro and emerging victorious in a close battle with Shinsuke Nakamura & Riddle on the blue brand.

Although Jimmy & Jey also officially retained the tag team gold against explosive former titleholders Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins at the WWE Money in the Bank Premium Live Event, a replay showed that Ford’s shoulder was clearly off the canvas before the three-count.

At The Biggest Event of the Summer, The Street Profits will be up and looking to both knock The Usos down a peg and finally lay claim to the Undisputed Tag Team Title. Can Ford & Dawkins take back the the championship gold, or will another climb to “Mount Bloodline” knock the wind out of them once and for all?

Find out at SummerSlam, streaming LIVE on Saturday, July 30, at 8 ET/5 PT on Peacock in the United States and on WWE Network everywhere else.

Possible Street Profits Breakup

It was recently reported on the Wrestling Observer Radio that the current plan for Montez Ford is for him to be pushed as a singles star. This could be where the official breakup of The Street Profits takes place.
