Rey Mysterio Reveals What Vince McMahon Wanted Before His WWE Debut

0

Rey Mysterio’s iconic mask has become synonymous with his character. It’s almost impossible to imagine him wrestling without it at this point but there was a time when Mysterio had dropped it from his gear. Rey had to drop his mask after losing a match to nWo in WCW back in 1999. He credits Vince McMahon for bringing it back.

The wrestling veteran had an interview with Ariel Helwani to celebrate 20 years of his WWE debut. Speaking about his arrival in WWE, Mysterio recalled how he had been wrestling without his mask for some time. The former world champion then told the story of how he got his mask back:

“So funny story, I leave WCW. Then I get signed by WWE, and at the time, I’m wrestling without a mask. I had done a couple dates in Mexico and I was comfortable wrestling without it.” recalled Rey Mysterio, “I go into OVW in Kentucky. I started training before I went into WWE, before my first match. During that week of training, a week before I debuted, they were like, ‘Rey, Vince wants to see what outfit you’re gonna wear.’

So I showed them a getup of what I was wearing at the time. They were like, ‘but where’s the mask?’ I said, ‘I’m not wearing a mask right now.’ ‘Oh no, Vince wants you to bring the mask back.’ I was like, ‘Oh, you guys should have told me.'”

How many masks does Rey Mysterio have?

Rey Mysterio Masks

Over the years, Rey Mysterio has used many different masks and ring gears. When asked how many masks he has in his collection, Mysterio claimed that he has lost count:

“Man, I’ve lost count. But if we put my wife’s purses and shoes next to mine, I think we’re right about the same. I would have to say, yes over 1000.”

Rey Mysterio Marks 20 Years with WWE

The Rock Has A Shark Named After Him

0

Shark Week is all about celebrating the majestic kings of the sea, and The Rock is getting involved in more than one way.

The 34th annual Shark Week began on July 24th, with Discovery intending to take the week-long event to the next level after their recent acquisition of WarnerMedia.

The Great One was brought into the mix with the same intention. The Rock is hosting the show this time, replacing Josh Gates from last year.

The Rock Reacts

Atlantic White Shark Conservancy recently revealed on Twitter that they have named a Shark after the People’s Champion. The Shark had an injury on his dorsal fin, but the conservancy’s research team oversaw the healing process.

The Rock responded to this news mentioning how we don’t see such injuries in sharks very often. The Hollywood star also noted that he would want to meet the creature named after him someday:

“That’s a gnarly injury we don’t often see on the apex predator. Good to see the recovery! I’d be honored to meet #TheRock? one day. Thanks for the tweet.”

Shark Week premiered on Disney back in July 1988. Its primary goal was to eradicate the fear of Sharks among people who had seen Jaws movie franchise. It has become an annual phenomenon since then.

The Usos will defend the Undisputed Tag Team Championships against The Street Profits at SummerSlam with Jeff Jarrett as the special guest referee. Roman Reigns asked the crowd to acknowledge him before saying he doesn’t feel like talking anymore. He handed the microphone to Paul Heyman and he welcomed everyone to the island of relevancy. The microphone cut out and Heyman joked that the sound guy must bef from New Jersey or something.

Heyman noted that Reigns is closing in on 700 days as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion before bringing up his SummerSlam opponent, Brock Lesnar. Paul claimed that everyone is sick of Brock riding on the coattails of the greatness of Roman Reigns and it is time for him to go away.

Money in the Bank winner Theory interrupted and reminded everyone that he’s going to take back his US Title from Lashley and cash in to become the new Undisputed Champion at SummerSlam. Reigns suggested that Theory step into the ring and acknowledge his Tribal Chief. Theory hopped into the ring and Reigns joked that he looked nervous.

Roman told Theory that he needs a wise man as well and gave him some advice. Reigns told Theory that “his daddy is not here anymore” in reference to Vince McMahon and this is his ring. The crowd broke out in a “daddy’s boy!” chant followed by a “who’s your daddy?” chant. Roman joked that he’s about to be Theory’s daddy if he keeps messing up. Theory bashed Jey Uso with the briefcase but Roman held The Usos back. The Bloodline laughed at Theory before exiting the ring.

Theory battled back and sent Drew into the turnbuckle. McIntyre exploded out of the corner with a Clothesline and followed it up with the Future Shock DDT. When RAW returned from a break, Theory launched McIntyre over the top rope and to the floor. Theory then bashed McIntyre into the ring post and hurled him into the steel steps outside the ring.

Back in the ring, Drew connected with a Clothesline and followed it up with a massive Spinebuster for a close near fall. The Brawling Brutes showed up and attacked McIntyre to end the match in a DQ. United States Champion Lashley rushed the ring and Theory retreated. Sheamus, Ridge Holland, and Butch ended as well as McIntyre & Lashley stood tall.

Dolph Ziggler Distracted Theory, Roman Reigns Delivered A Warning

Sheamus and Theory then battled Drew McIntyre in a tag team match. Sheamus dominated Drew McIntyre early and refused to tag in Theory. Ridge Holland and Butch were ringside for the match. Lashley tagged in and hit Sheamus with a Suplex. Theory ran into the ring and Bobby slammed him down before Clotheslining Sheamus to the outside.

Lashley chased after Theory but Sheamus caught him with a big knee strike to the face. Butch distracted the referee and Ridge went for a cheap shot on McIntyre. Drew broke it up and sent Butch flying onto Ridge Holland outside the ring. The referee then kicked them out from ringside as RAW went to a break.

Balor got back in the action and delivered a Dropkick to Rey. Balor followed it up with the Coup de Grace but Dominik broke up the cover at the last moment.

Balor sent Dominik out of the ring and Damian Priest grabbed a steel chair. Damian put the chair in the corner of the ring as Finn smirked. Balor grabbed the chair as Damian distracted the referee. Finn tried to do the old Eddie Guerrero trick and pretended that Rey hit him with the chair. Dominik then distracted the referee and Mysterio hit Balor with the chair. When RAW returned, The Bloodline was back in control and The Usos had Riddle down in the corner. Jimmy and Jey offered to tag in Reigns and the crowd chanted “Roman!”. The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion tagged in and unloaded some Clotheslines to Riddle against the turnbuckle.

Vince McMahon’s WWE Retirement Hastened By Federal Investigations

0

The Wall Street Journal has a new report regarding Vince McMahon and his retirement from WWE.

The report notes McMahon was driven into retirement by investigations from federal prosecutors relating to his hush money scandals. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is also investigating McMahon.

WWE alluded to investigations in their SEC filing but did not state a specific entity. WWE stated they had received “regulatory, investigative and enforcement inquiries, subpoenas or demands” regarding the hush money payments. McMahon’s departure was listed as a resignation by WWE.

The WSJ report noted they tried to reach out to spokespeople for McMahon and WWE, but they did not immediately respond to the requests.  A spokesman for the independent directors of the WWE board declined to comment. Neither the SEC nor the spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office in Connecticut provided any comment.

McMahon announced his retirement from the company last Friday. Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan were named new co-CEOs on Monday, and Paul “Triple H” Levesque is the Head of Creative.

The Wall Street Journal previously broke the news about the WWE Board of Directors investigating McMahon over a $3 million settlement that McMahon had agreed to pay a former employee who he allegedly had an affair with and him paying more than $12 million to four women formerly with the company to “suppress allegations of sexual misconduct and infidelity.”

Update on Edge’s Status Ahead of WWE Raw Tonight

A big episode of WWE Monday Night Raw is going down on July 25 and there are rumblings on the status of Edge.

The “Rated-R Superstar” has been out of action since Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley kicked him out of The Judgment Day. Edge was replaced by Finn Balor, who led the charge in ousting the former faction leader.

Priest put Edge out of commission with a Conchairto.

Now, there’s some chatter about whether or not Edge’s planned surprise appearance will come to fruition inside Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Edge’s Travel

Fightful had reported that Edge was factored into plans for the July 25 edition of Raw. It would be his first appearance since June 6.

WWE has been running vignettes teasing Edge’s return.

In an update, however, Fightful has been told that Edge’s travel plans have been altered and there’s no word on how that may impact his planned surprise return tonight.

WWE did not advertise Edge showing up tonight. If he does indeed appear, he’ll likely be going after Balor and Priest.

The Judgment Day members are set to meet Rey and Dominik Mysterio in a tag team match. WWE will be celebrating Rey Mysterio’s 20th anniversary with the company.

Keep it locked on the SEScoops homepage for live coverage of tonight’s episode of WWE Raw.

Paige vs. Britt Baker Just Got One Big Step Closer to Happening

0

Former WWE star Paige has verbally agreed to a massive matchup with Britt Baker in All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

Paige recently took to Twitter to respond to an article that was shared, in which Britt Baker named Paige as her dream opponent. The former WWE Divas Champion seems game for the match, responding with “sign me up. I love me some @RealBrittBaker.”

https://twitter.com/RealPaigeWWE/status/1551597584954716160

The time for a potential matchup between Paige and Baker has never been more right. Recently, Paige, real name Saraya Bevis, wrapped up her time with WWE when her contract expired in June.

Paige & Her Injury History

For the past several years, Paige has been sidelined from in-ring competition due to an injury. During that time, WWE tried to use her as an on-screen authority figure, as well as a manager, however, she later was removed from WWE TV altogether.

As for Baker, she’s currently one of the biggest stars over in AEW, who is the favorite to sign Bevis now that she’s free of contractual obligations from WWE. Both Bevis and Baker have teased a potential showdown in the past.

Despite Bevis’ injury concerns, she has stated she fully intends on wrestling again. She hasn’t competed inside of the ring since 2017 after neck injuries caught up with her.

Update on Jonathan Gresham Requesting ROH Release

0

We have some more information to pass along regarding Jonathan Gresham requesting his release from Ring Of Honor (ROH).

Initial reports suggest that Gresham, the now-former ROH World Champion, has requested his release from the promotion after an argument with ROH owner and All Elite Wrestling (AEW) president Tony Khan.

Now, Fightful reports that Gresham met with Khan just before the ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view (PPV). He was already more heated than usual in regards to his booking and character.

Although their conversation was behind closed doors, details of the discussion leaked out due to how loud the conversation got. Even the building’s security could hear what was going on. The site claims Gresham “cussed out” Khan.

Gresham had been disgruntled with the creative decisions regarding his character, specifically being against the idea of turning heel. He also had “a vision for his creative direction” that Khan did not agree with.

The former ROH World Champion had been told that creative decisions needed to go through Khan, but Gresham couldn’t get in contact with Khan until only a few hours before Saturday’s show.

Fightful clarifies that the AEW creative process is for talents to speak to AEW coaches as well as Christopher Daniels, QT Marshall, and Pat Buck, who then go to Khan. While Khan does try to speak to talent directly, that has slowly stopped “due to the changing of the world and travel in general.”

There seems to be quite a bit of complaints going on regarding the lack of communication within AEW; from stars such as Joey Janela, Marko Stunt, and Chavo Guerrero.

It remains to be seen if Jonathan Gresham will ultimately be granted his release.

He faced off against Chavo Guerrero in his first WWE match after being advertised for several weeks prior with vignettes. Mysteiro won his debut match, soon after entering into a feud with Kurt Angle. Since, Mysterio has gone on to become one of the most legendary names WWE has ever seen.

Over the course of his career, Mysteiro has racked up three World Titles, three WWE Cruiserweight Title runs, two Intercontinental Titles, and five Tag Team Title wins. He’s also a two-time United States Title winner and a former Royal Rumble winner.

Gunther Describes Difference Between NXT And Main Roster

0

Gunther signed with WWE in 2019 and helped put the NXT UK brand on the map with his 800+ days long reign as the NXT UK champion. He then had a short run in NXT 2.0 before being called up to the main roster in April this year.

The former NXT UK star appeared on Out of Character podcast recently. He discussed the difference between the behind-the-scene environment of NXT and main roster. The Intercontinental champion claimed that things are more ‘relaxed’ on the main roster:

“I think at the end of the day when it comes to what happens in the ring, wrestling is wrestling. For me at least it doesn’t matter if it’s in front of 50 people or if it’s in front of 20,000 people. Obviously [the major] difference is all the happenings around it. there are way more people involved [in the main roster]. A lot more stuff has to happen in a shorter amount of time.

It’s not too different, but it’s obviously just NXT is a little bit [more] strict and organized.” said Gunther, “Because the people involved are less experienced, I will say, like the talent and stuff. While it’s a little bit more relaxed I would call it on SmackDown in my experience. Everybody’s way more experienced and can get all the stuff done. Like tick, tick, tick, tick, one after the other. Everything has its little routine. It’s a little bit more relaxed in terms of nobody’s really tensed or freaked out about what they have to do. “

Jim Ross Reacts To WWE Potentially Returning To TV-14

0

Jim Ross has offered up his reaction to WWE potentially returning to the TV-14 format.

There has been plenty of chatter in recent weeks about the reports suggesting that WWE will be returning over to TV-14. The company themselves recently confirmed that their upcoming SummerSlam premium event will be rated TV-14.

It remains to be seen if this will be a regular occurrence on weekly television moving forward. However, it would be a very welcome change amongst professional wrestling fans should it become one.

Jim Ross Discusses WWE Moving To TV-14

Recently, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross took to his podcast, “Grilling JR,” to discuss chatter of WWE moving back up to TV-14. Ross explained that, the more people who watch WWE, actually helps AEW. So, the AEW commentator is hoping the move works well for his former employer.

“The more people that watch Raw or SmackDown, believe it or not, helps AEW.” Ross said. “Generating interest in pro wrestling, on any platform — what’s that old saying about high tides, all ships? I think that’s where we are here in this scenario. I hope it does well for them.”

WWE seems to be undergoing a wealth of changes at the moment. From Vince McMahon’s sudden retirement, to Triple H taking over as the new head of creative, adding in a format change could certainly be the beginning of a new era of WWE TV.

Perhaps more information will be made available during tonight’s episode of Monday Night RAW.

CM Punk Provides Injury Recovery Update

0

CM Punk has provided an update on his recovery from injury.

Punk is currently out-of-action with a foot injury. This came in the midst of his first-ever reign as All Elite Wrestling (AEW) World Champion. Punk had only just won the gold at AEW Double Or Nothing against Adam Page.

However, he soon announced on the June 3 edition of AEW Rampage that he will need surgery to repair the injury, seeing him sidelined for several months. Instead of having him vacate the title, AEW president Tony Khan instead introduced an interim AEW World Title.

Currently, Jon Moxley reigns as the interim World Champion. He’ll likely face off against Punk to unify their titles once he finally returns from injury. As for when that may be, Punk spoke with Skewed and Reviewed Gareth Von Kallenbach at the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend.

CM Punk Injury Update

During the interview, Punk provided the following update.

“It’s healing.. it’s not healed,” said Punk. “That’s a quote from my surgeon. It feels like it’s on fire every day, partly probably because I was on my feet all day yesterday. [I] still wear the boot, but that’s mostly because I want people to recognize that I don’t want them near my foot. I’m working hard to come back.”

Punk added that it’s been very difficult road to recovery, and “learning how to walk again is f’ing frustrating.” That said he’s feeling a little better each day.

Tony Khan Comments on Punk’s Recovery

AEW President Tony Khan addressed CM Punk’s injury situation over the weekend. During the ROH Death Before Dishonor post-show media scrum, Khan said Punk is doing well and is on-track with his recovery. (Read More)

We’ll keep you updated on CM Punk’s road to recovery.

Gunther Reveals Unique Reason He Did Not Want To Move To America

0

It’s pretty well known that Gunther did not want to move to America for a long time. According to the WWE star himself, it was also about timing things right to make himself stand out.

The current Intercontinental Champion recently appeared on Ryan Satin’s Out of Character podcast. Speaking about his decision to move continents, Gunther discussed how he still prefers the European lifestyle. He then talked about how he started back in 2005 and saw the wrestling landscape change:

“I think I started in 2005, looking back at the steps wrestling made [since then], like changing and developing. Then out of nowhere the gates were open for so many young wrestlers from Europe to actually go to WWE or wrestle other places and be seen and be successful.” said Gunther, “It felt a little bit like a gold rush.

He continued: “So everybody obviously just jumped on every opportunity they had. Sometimes it’s better to just wait things out and wait out the timing a little bit. I always felt like if everybody moves to America at the same time, it’s not gonna be as special when I do it. It was always clear to me that it will happen at some point but I tried to time it as good as possible for myself.”

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) star Paul Wight reveals which WWE Hall Of Famer would “kick the sh*t” out of him in the ring.

Wight was recently a guest on The Wrestling Classic’s “Casual Conversations. During the show, Wight talked about working with WWE Hall Of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin. Wight says Austin would “kick the sh*t” out of him in the ring.

“He would kick the sh*t out of me for about 3 or 4 minutes, beat me, and pour beer on my head,” said Wight.

Wight then discussed having to work with Austin for 10 days straight during a UK tour. A match in London, in particular, where Vince McMahon wanted Wight to go over on Austin. Wight was in the midst of a feud with Brock Lesnar at the time, so McMahon wanted to give Big Show some rub.

However, Austin shut the idea down, saying, “Vince, these people paid a lot of money to see Stone Cold Steve Austin drink a few beers and hit a few stunners, not do a job to the freaking Big Show.”

After speaking with Austin, McMahon changed his mind, instead instructing Wight that he needed to be more aggressive.

Of course, Paul Wight would go on to become one of the most successful big men in professional wrestling history. He’s a four-time WWE World Champion, an eight-time Tag Team Champion, and has held both the United States and Intercontinental Titles once each.

Going by the name The Big Show for most of his career in WWE, Wight also won the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal in 2015. After leaving WWE in 2021, marking the end of an amazing 22-year run with the company, Wight opted to sign with All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

He currently serves as a commentator for AEW Dark, sporadically competing inside the ring as well. As for Austin, the former WWE Champion retired from professional wrestling back in 2003.

However, he made his long-awaited return to in-ring action earlier this year in Dallas, Texas, competing in a No Holds Barred match against Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38. Austin won the contest, marking his first match in almost 20 years.

Major WWE Executive Expected to Leave Company Within a Year

One big WWE executive appears to be on borrowed time with the company.

Change is coming for the once Vince McMahon-led empire. On July 22, WWE issued a statement announcing the retirement of Vince.

McMahon had been the longtime Chairman and CEO of WWE before stepping back amid an investigation into his alleged million-dollar pacts with former female employees. The “retirement” was actually a resignation as revealed in the company’s 8-K filing.

With McMahon and former Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis gone, the Stephanie McMahon-Triple H takeover is upon us.

Don’t forget about Nick Khan as well.

Kevin Dunn Likely Gone From WWE Eventually

Fightful is reporting that Executive Producer & Chief, Global Television Distribution Kevin Dunn is likely to be gone from the company in due time. It’s been said that he will either leave on his own or be forced out.

PWTorch also shared a similar report. Wade Keller noted that while Dunn isn’t expected to be ousted immediately, he likely won’t be around at this time next year.

The PWTorch report also mentioned that Kevin Dunn is not a Triple H guy. Hunter has been positioned as the new Head of Creative.

It’s also been reported by several outlets over the years that Stephanie McMahon, the new Chairwoman and CEO of WWE, was never a fan of Dunn.

How Does USA Network Feel About Triple H Taking Over WWE Creative?

Triple H is now the Head of Creative in WWE and here’s how USA Network execs feel about it.

Vince McMahon had his hand in the pot of just about everything creatively within WWE for decades. From character changes to scripts, it all went through Vince. You’ve often heard former WWE employees say they always worked for an audience of one.

That one, of course, being the former Chairman of the board.

Things have changed now, however. Vince McMahon “retired” mere hours before the July 22 episode of SmackDown went on the air.

In an 8-K report, a filing sent to the SEC, McMahon’s departure is officially listed as a resignation. The move was clearly in relation to The Wall Street Journal’s report of alleged million-dollar pacts with former female employees over the course of 16 years.

USA Network Reacts to Triple H’s New Role

WWE has confirmed to several reporters that Triple H is now the Head of Creative. It’s a role that “The Game” took on during his time in NXT before enduring major health issues.

Now that he is back in the saddle, Triple H will be the point man for creative on WWE’s main roster shows, Raw and SmackDown. His wife, Stephanie McMahon, is the Chairwoman and co-CEO, a title she shares with Nick Khan.

Fightful is reporting that a source within USA Network says the overall feeling with this move is excitement.

Many have criticized WWE for being too stale and in desperate need of a change creatively. While business has been booming for WWE, its TV shows haven’t exactly been met with praise over the past few years.

Maybe things will start to change.

Vince McMahon’s WWE Departure Officially Listed as Resignation

To the surprise of pretty much no one, there’s more to Vince McMahon’s retirement than age.

Just hours before the July 22 episode of WWE SmackDown went off the air, it was announced that Vince has retired. The wording of the statement left some to believe that McMahon could possibly retain his role on the creative team but that isn’t the case.

While Vince remains the majority shareholder, he is completely gone as an executive from the company.

While McMahon is 77 years old and many believe this move was long overdue, his retirement didn’t come about because he felt he had done all he needed to do.

Vince McMahon Resigned

In an 8-K report, which is a required company filing to the SEC, Vince McMahon’s departure from WWE is officially listed as a resignation.

The news shouldn’t come as a surprise. Vince McMahon was in hot water after The Wall Street Journal uncovered Vince’s alleged million-dollar pacts with former female employees over the course of 16 years.

While many felt that McMahon was bulletproof, you simply can’t get away with this kind of stuff in 2022 and beyond.

Stephanie McMahon is now the full-time Chairwoman and shares the CEO title with Nick Khan. WWE has also informed reporters that Triple H is now positioned as the Head of Creative.

Triple H Takes Over WWE Creative

WWE executive Paul Levesque (Triple H) has assumed “all responsibilities related to WWE’s creative,” the company announced Monday morning.

Vince McMahon’s retirement on Friday has sent shockwaves throughout the wrestling world. It’s led to a significant shakeup to WWE’s management structure, with Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan serving as co-CEO’s.

Prior to the Vince retirement announcement, WWE announced Levesque was appointed as the new head of Talent Relations. In a press release about his new role, Levesque stated,

“I look forward to returning to my prior position as head of Talent Relations. I’m healthy, fired up, and ready to take charge.”

Triple H Assumes Control of WWE Creative

In a press release sent out Monday morning, WWE and its Board of Directors addressed the updated management structure:

WWE & BOARD OF DIRECTORS ANNOUNCE NEW CO-CEOS STEPHANIE MCMAHON AND NICK KHAN

WWE (NYSE: WWE) and its Board of Directors today announced the appointment of Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan as co-Chief Executive Officers. Ms. McMahon has also been appointed Chairwoman of the Board, and Mr. Khan will continue to serve as a member of the Board. We are grateful for the opportunity to lead WWE together with our unmatched management team,” said Ms. McMahon and Mr. Khan. “We recognize this is a tremendous opportunity and responsibility, and we look forward to serving the WWE Universe.”

Additionally, WWE executive Paul Levesque will assume all responsibilities related to WWE’s creative, in addition to his regular duties."

New Details on Shane McMahon’s Controversial Conduct at the Royal Rumble

0

Earlier this year, Shane McMahon received backlash for his conduct behind the scenes at the 2022 WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Prior to his surprise return at the event (video below), Shane used his influence to make significant changes to the Rumble match, including booking himself stronger over established talent.

Along with that, there were reports that Shane was reportedly acting “unprofessional” at the even, and had even ticked off Brock Lesnar, who went on to win the Rumble.

A new report from Fightful provides new details surrounding the fallout between Shane McMahon and Vince McMahon stemming from the Royal Rumble incident.

Shane McMahon at the Royal Rumble

Brock Lesnar was said to be very displeased with Shane’s adjustments, so much so that it caught the eye of Vince, who called it the end of the for Shane. As expected it was Vince who made the decision to part-ways with his son, with one source telling the publication that Vince even went as far to say that “Shane would never get another pop in WWE” as long as he was still in charge.

The belief is that Vince was just angry in the moment when he made that declaration and that things could eventually be patched up, but those close to the situation believe that Vince was justified due to Shane’s aforementioned behavior and “unjust” decision making.

Vince McMahon retired just a few days ago, but already, there is a feeling that talent is feeling more comfortable to share information like this Shane McMahon story.

Tully Blanchard Essentially Done With AEW-ROH

0

During Friday’s episode of AEW Rampage, it was announced that Tully Blanchard Enterprises would be in action during the kick off show to Ring of Honor’s Pay Per View Death Before Dishonor.

However during the ROH Death Before Dishonor Zero Hour we learned that Prince Nana had acquired Tully Blanchard Enterprises.

Brian Cage along with the Gates Of Agony members Toa Liona and Kaun now becoming part of The Embassy.

Prince Nana accompanied the new additions to The Embassy in their trios match against Alex Zayne, Blake Christian and Tony Deppen. The three men continued their dominance in Ring of Honor by picking up the pinfall victory on Deppen.

In the Death Before Dishonor post-show media scrum, president of AEW Tony Khan was asked about the status of Tully Blanchard.

“Tully’s good. I think for the workload and the things we’re asking I would just say and where he is in this stage I think it was a good fit and now the business transaction that went down here in Ring of Honor between Tully and Princess Nana.

“I think Tully, he’s doing really well, personally and thriving and I’m happy for him and excited and now Prince Nana.

“He’s a legend, it’s great to have Prince Nana and the Embassy back in Ring of Honor. So I think that’s something to be excited about its great group of wrestlers and very excited about that and wish Tully the best.

“And you know, we certainly could see him around AEW, Ring of Honor again. But now that transition and that transaction got Prince Nana back here, which is awesome.”

With Tully Blanchard seen on the match graphic the day before the pay per view and no where to be found the day of, many speculated there might have been more to this story.

That hunch was correct as Fightful reports Tully is essentially done with AEW & ROH.

Athena Was Required To Limit Her Move Set In WWE To Being A High-Flyer

0

Athena, formerly known as Ember Moon, spent six years in WWE, where she now says she was forced to limit her moveset.

Athena’s AEW Career

Athena made her AEW debut at AEW Double or Nothing following Jade Cargill’s TBS Title defense against Anna Jay. Since then, she has had four matches and currently has a 3-1 record within the company.

Athena received her first loss in AEW this past week on AEW Dynamite. However, due to her feud with Jade Cargill, it is more than likely that Athena will become ranked and will challenge Jade for the TBS Championship.

In recent weeks, Athena has been partnering with Willow Nightingale and Kris Statlander to take on Jade and The Baddies. Athena recently teamed with Willow Nightingale on the July 20 episode of Dynamite to take on Jade Cargill and Keira Hogan.

Athena’s Time In WWE

During her time in WWE, Athena, then Ember Moon, was known for being a high-flyer. Athena now says that this is due to her height and the restrictions that were placed on her because of how short she was.

Athena was in WWE from 2015–2021. She spent 2015–2018 in NXT. Athena was on the main roster from 2018-2020, but she then returned to NXT in 2020 until she was released in 2021.

She was released from WWE on November 4, 2021 alongside Keith Lee, Karrion Kross (Killer Kross), Mia Yim, Franky Monet (Taya Valkyrie), and many others.

Athena Was Limited Due To Her Height

The Fallen Goddess recently spoke with Rick Ucchino of the Bleav in Pro Wrestling Podcast about her time in WWE and how it has affected the way that she wrestles.

“So I feel like, like I said, I’m 5’1. In a former life, I was 5’1. And I was required to be 5’1  is in like, I had to be a high flyer and jump around and do things. And I like doing that stuff, right? I’m not I’m not knocking any shade.

“That’s just the small window of what I’ve given. And I took advantage of it to the nines. And like that’s, that was the challenge given to me. You are a high flyer go out in high fly and do your thing woman, right? Because I’m short, right? I get it right. But before I got there, I was a technician, I was a powerhouse.

“I didn’t do any of the high-flying stuff. You know, I learned that to get a job because I saw that no one else was doing that at the time. Now everyone can do everything.

“That’s amazing, but that’s that was when I got signed. That was the role I was given. And I was like, ‘Ah, this is just kind of like ugh.'”

Athena on being limited in WWE

Expanding Possibilities Through An Unfiltered Moveset

“But having an unfiltered moveset, not having to worry about so much of who does what but what works for your match and your story within the match. Like, there’s so much more entertainment value to that to me.

“And a lot of that is like one of my favorite things I saw as a kid because I feel like I have to say this because then you’ll understand where my mindset is. Hurricane versus The Rock.

“Mind you didn’t realize hurricane was like six foot something till I met him in person but still, like Hurricane versus a rock? How many times? Did he tease that chokeslam? How many times? Chokeslam? No, no one’s taken the chokeslam.

“And then he finally gets to that championship match with The Rock on SmackDown. And he hits him with the choke slam boom. The crowd loses their crap because for six months, he’s been teasing this chokeslam, The Rock finally takes it that place explodes and everyone thought he was gonna win the match.

“Like that’s the type of like, I don’t want to be limited by the way I look. Right?

Athena Wants To Do What The Guys Can But Better

“But like, I just I want that excitement back. And I feel like that’s just me as a performer. That doesn’t apply to everyone. Some people are comfortable doing what they know.

“And that’s absolutely fine. But I want to push the limits. When I first signed, it’s because I wanted to change the world of women’s wrestling. I’m not a porcelain princess. And I want people to know that like, I am a warrior to and through.

“And I just want people to know that like whatever the guys can do. I can do it. And I’m going to try to do it better than them. And that’s what my whole life in this pro wrestling world has been is.

“I want people to see me as a performer, not a great women’s wrestler, a great wrestler, great performer, and I want them to look at me and say, oh my god, Athena is one of the best in the world.

“It doesn’t matter if she’s a man doesn’t matter if she’s a woman, she can do her job and she does it well.”

Tony Khan on ROH Death Before Dishonor PPV Buys

0

Last night’s Ring of Honor pay-per-view event Death Before Dishonor has been said to be a huge success.

The second pay-per-view under the new ownership of the President of All Elite Wrestling, Tony Khan, is said to have been more successful than ROH Supercard Of Honor 2022 back on April 1st.

“We’re approaching 25,000 buys digitally. We’re well over 20,000, approaching 25,000” Tony Khan said during the Death Before Dishonor post-show media scrum.

“Just digitally. And when we get the cable and satellite buys, this will be one of the highest Ring of Honor pay-per-view buys in the history of the company in over 20 years of operating. And as I said, this is the fourth biggest live attendance.

“Of course our first show, we did Supercard was up there. This beat that by a big margin and it was great. And so it is the number four all-time in over 20 years of Ring of Honor events. And again, it is the highest ever for a non-WrestleMania weekend event.”

Later on in the media scrum, Tony Khan would go on mention that this could be a good driver for if or when Ring of Honor starts weekly television.

“I think the business success of tonight’s show is hopefully a good driver and so I think it’s really good news for anybody who likes Ring of Honor. Because the show tonight was a big success and we’ve really revived the brand. And for a company that had a very uncertain future.”

We will report any updates as well as the pay-per-view buy numbers when they become official.
