AEW has pulled a Twitter post hyping up MJF vs. Wardlow.
Tonight (May 29), Double or Nothing will take place inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. AEW has been building a long-term storyline with MJF and Wardlow that is expected to be paid off tonight.
The problem is, Maxwell Jacob Friedman and AEW have been having major issues as of late.
Here is the tweet from AEW that has since been removed advertising the match:
For those who have been out of the loop the past 24 hours, MJF no-showed a meet and greet scheduled for the AEW Fan Fest on Saturday. PWInsider reported that initially, AEW officials couldn’t contact him.
Fightful later reported that MJF had a flight booked out of Las Vegas for late Saturday night. The report noted that it wasn’t known whether or not he’d actually board the flight.
PWInsider followed this up, reporting that MJF remained in Las Vegas and did not board the flight to Newark, New Jersey.
For what it’s worth, AEW has posted a hype video on its official YouTube channel for MJF vs. Wardlow within the past hour and as of this writing, that hasn’t been taken down.
On the first season of Heels, CM Punk and Luke Gallows were featured on the show. Starz, the television channel/production company behind Heels, is seemingly planning to add more professional wrestling talent to the wrestling-based drama.
PWInsider has reported that Heels will be adding former IMPACT Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace, IMPACT’s Savannah Evans, and AEW’s Serena Deeb to the cast. They are currently filming Season Two of the show in Georgia.
Season One of ‘Heels’
Heels, whose lead producer is Micheal Waldron, depicts a story of two brothers who are rivals that are fighting over their father’s wrestling promotion. One of the brothers plays the villain and the other plays the hero, thus showcasing the heel versus face dynamic that we see in the ring throughout the show. While the brothers are fighting, the promotion is also trying to gain national attention as a small promotion in a small town in Georgia.
Season One premiered in the fall of 2021 and featured eight episodes. The show in its entirety is available for streaming on-demand on Amazon Prime Video.
On March 9, the Jericho Appreciation Society came together to solidify Jericho’s split from Santana & Ortiz. This also was the official end of the Inner Circle.
Jericho noted that he wanted to “cordially split up” the Inner Circle after the Stadium Stampede with The Pinnacle. He also said that he had an interest in forming a group with Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley.
During his feud with Kingston, Jericho unveiled his Jericho Appreciation Society. The group features Daddy Magic Matt Mennard, Cool Hand Angelo Parker, and Daniel Garcia.
Many times during the feud, Kingston brought up the possibility of Jericho being the one to hold Santana & Ortiz back.
The Formation Of The Jericho Appreciation Society
On Talk Is Jericho, he talked about how the group and the idea for it came together.
Jericho said, “I thought, ‘this [Kingston bringing up Santana & Ortiz] is interesting, we can have some dissension here.’ Then, the fateful moment where Daniel Bryan is going to align with Moxley and he goes, ‘We can bring in Moriarty, we can bring in Wheeler Yuta, Daniel Garcia.’ I was like, ‘is this a thing? If it is, we’ve built up these three guys who have beat up Eddie Kingston and Chris Jericho and now they’re going to break it apart? These guys have to stay together. They have to stay together with me! It’s perfect.’
It hit me like, ‘Holy shit.’ Eddie Kingston, Santana, Ortiz have history, they do their thing, I start a new faction with you three and Jake because Jake and I have always been together since day one and I need a killer. ‘This could really work.’ That’s the original idea I pitched to Tony and said, ‘What do you think about this? I know it’s weird.”
The Origin Of The Jericho Appreciation Society
Chris went on to talk about the formation of the name as well.
“The original idea for this whole plan, the name of it was going to be The Citadel. I thought The Citadel was great. I said it to Tony and there was no pop for it whatsoever. I was like, ‘The Citadel sucks. I need something better.’
I was looking at the Art Appreciation Society or something like that, some weird email of ‘if you like this, maybe you should check out the Art Appreciation Society in downtown Detroit.’ Then, The Jericho Appreciation Society was just cheesy enough. It’s pretentious,” Chris said.
The former AEW World Champion also added how The Inner Circle were five guys with different identities and opinions but the JAS group was just four guys meant to be together to appreciate Jericho.
Jericho Appreciation Society At AEW Double Or Nothing
At Double Or Nothing, the JAS will take on Danielson, Kingston, Moxley, Santana & Ortiz in an Anarchy in the Arena match.

For the past two years at AEW Double or Nothing, there has been a Stadium Stampede match.
Now that fans are back in the arena, it seems that Anarchy In The Arena has replaced Stadium Stampede. Eddie Kingston, Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, Santana & Ortiz will take on the Jericho Appreciation Society (Chris Jericho, Daniel Garcia, Jake Hager, 2point0).
When the match was first announced, many thought that it would be a Blood & Guts match.
Tony Khan: Blood & Guts Means Less Ringside Seats
Tony Khan appeared on In The Kliq and was asked about the reason that the Blood & Guts match was not scheduled for Double or Nothing.
The AEW owner said, “I don’t think it would necessarily make sense with what we had set up on the pay-per-view in terms of getting the cage up and down for Blood & Guts and also the seating because it means less ringside seats.
“We have such great fans coming to the show and such a big attendance, actually a record gate for AEW. It’s the first time we’ve ever sold over a million dollars, just in tickets, we’re over $1.1 million in tickets for Double or Nothing before we even hit pay-per-view. It’s going to be a huge pay-per-view audience. Fans all over America and all over the world are talking about Double or Nothing.”
Possible Blood & Guts Return
The host went on to ask if Blood & Guts would eventually return, specifically because he wanted William Regal to say, “BLOOD & GUTS” similar to how he would say “WARGAMES!” during his time in NXT.
Tony Khan responded, “It’s an interesting thought and an interesting thing you bring up. I would not rule that out in the future at all. I would love for Blood & Guts to return to AEW. We still have the cage. It would make a lot of sense for Blood & Guts to come back to AEW.”
The first, last, and only Blood & Guts match took place on May 5, 2021 on AEW Dynamite. The match featured The Inner Circle taking on The Pinnacle

On the last episode of D-Von’s Table Talk podcast, he revealed that he will be moving from a producer to a coaching position in NXT. He will begin his new role in NXT on June 15.
Due to the chance of D-Von’s schedule and the schedule of his co-hosts, Table Talk has come to an end for now.
D-Von’s Spinal Fusion Surgery
Back in February, Dudley underwent spinal fusion surgery. He recently announced that he would be returning to work. As a part of the 2018 class, The Dudley Boyz (D-Von and Bubba Ray Dudley) were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
D-Von may be one of the most decorated and highly regarded tag team wrestlers in history, but he hasn’t wrestled since 2016. He did once joke about returning and making an appearance in the WWE Royal Rumble.
All great and successful wrestlers have humble beginnings. Former NXT champion Tommaso Ciampa is no exception to this rule.
The wrestling veteran recently had an interview with Quetzalli Bulnes on El Brunch de WWE. During the talk, the former NXT star told the story of how he got started in wrestling. Ciampa revealed that he wanted to start his training at Killer Kowalski’s wrestling academy when he was still in school.
He couldn’t do it because his parents didn’t allow him to enroll. So Ciampa used to go to the facility and watch other students as they trained. Tommaso Ciampa finally got in after graduating high school and buying his first car:
“The rule my parents had was that I had to finish high school and I had to get my own car. So my first car was like a $500, beat-up van, like real old. [It was] terrible, rusty, but just good enough to get me to the facility and back.” said Tommaso Ciampa,
He continued, “The second I got the car, I just went and [signed up]. That was my graduation present, I paid tuition for the wrestling school. I started with Killer’s and then from there just snowball. I ended up traveling kind of all over the country with it.”
Apart from this, Ciampa also talked about his relationship with Johnny Gargano. He said that he misses sharing the locker room with his DIY partner. Though he mentioned how they live close to each other and they see each other a lot.
Bryan Danielson was one of the most shocking names to leave WWE to join AEW. Per Bryan, one big reason for it was being able to spend more time with his family.
The former world champion recently had an interview with Sports Illustrated. He talked about his upcoming Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing and more.
Speaking about his reason to join AEW, Bryan mentioned the recent Texas shooting. He explained that it made him want to spend more time with his family. The former WWE star then dived into some philosophy from a book called Four Thousand Weeks:
“The book says it’s about time management, but it’s actually a book about philosophy. The average lifespan is only 4,000 weeks. If you look at where I’m at now, I’m 2,000 weeks in, and I’ve got 2,000 weeks left. With all the craziness in the world, do I want to spend the rest of those weeks entertaining people? Or do I want to spend more time with my family?”
Bryan Danielson explained that the ability to have freedom in his wrestling career while also having more time for his family is one of the key reasons why he signed with Tony Khan’s promotion:
“That’s actually one of the reasons why I chose AEW. It allows me the ability to have a little more freedom with my wrestling and wrestle different people with different styles, but it’s also to spend more time with my family.”
Apart from this, Danielson discussed things such as the longevity of Chris Jericho, if he would consider joining the Chris Jericho appreciation society, and more.
MJF wasn’t the only one who didn’t attend the AEW Double or Nothing Fan Fest.
Fans grew concerned upon the news that MJF and Samoa Joe weren’t in attendance for the pre-PPV festivities. In MJF’s case, he no-showed seemingly due to some lingering issues with AEW.
In fact, Fightful reports that MJF has a flight booked out of Las Vegas before the PPV event. He has a big match scheduled with Wardlow that may not even happen. At this time, it’s unknown whether or not he’ll actually get on the plane.
As for Joe, things are a bit different.
Bryan Alvarez of F4W has reported that the reason Samoa Joe didn’t attend his planned meet and greet was due to a communication issue.
It appears the situation with Samoa Joe and the Fan Fest was a communication issue, so totally different from whatever is happening with MJF, who did no-show.
Sean Ross Sapp followed up Bryan’s report, saying sources indicated to him that Joe may have been accidentally double-booked.
Regarding Samoa Joe missing Fanfest, he was double booked and we're told it was a miscommunication. One source indicated it was for a voiceover session.
— Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com (@SeanRossSapp) May 29, 2022
Joe is scheduled to meet Adam Cole in the finals of the Men’s Owen Hart Cup at the Double or Nothing PPV tomorrow night (May 29).
Win or lose at DoN, Joe figures to be a major player in Tony Khan’s vision for Ring of Honor. Samoa Joe is the current ROH World Television Champion and he’s involved in a feud with Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh.
UPDATE: PWInsider is reporting that MJF remains in Las Vegas despite being booked for a flight out of “Sin City” one night before AEW Double or Nothing. He did not board the plane to Newark, New Jersey.
ORIGINAL:
It looks like the MJF-AEW situation has reached a boiling point.
Earlier today (May 28), MJF failed to show up to a meet and greet during a Fan Fest. PWInsider reported that this wasn’t a work and AEW officials couldn’t contact him despite several attempts.
In an update, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has reported that MJF is physically fine and that he has a flight booked out of Las Vegas tonight.
I can confirm a flight out of Las Vegas tonight has been booked for MJF.
— Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com (@SeanRossSapp) May 29, 2022
The report notes that it isn’t known whether or not MJF will get on the flight tonight, just that it has been booked.
There is currently no word on why this flight was booked for tonight. It’s been said in the report that some within the company are “very unhappy” with how this situation has unfolded.
MJF has made it clear that he’ll be weighing his options once his AEW contract expires in 2024. He’s dropped several hints of testing the waters with WWE.
It was reported that MJF has been frustrated with his pay. AEW has reportedly been willing to negotiate a new deal but MJF hasn’t been receptive to those overtures.
While MJF has blurred the lines between performance and reality, this report seems to be as real as it gets.
There is yet another layer to the MJF-AEW madness.
Ahead of this Sunday’s (May 29) big Double or Nothing PPV event, AEW held a Fan Fest. MJF was scheduled to attend a meet and greet but he failed to do so.
PWInsider is reporting that MJF’s failure to appear was not a work. The report notes that Maxwell Jacob Friedman didn’t respond to AEW’s attempts to contact him.
One fan on social media claims he was spotted at a casino instead.
Fans who paid for autographs and photos for the MJF showing were offered refunds and exchanges.
Those who may be worried about MJF’s physical well-being can rest easy, at the very least. Sean Ross Sapp confirmed he is okay.
I'll have a big update on MJF and AEW on https://t.co/jy8u4a7WDa. I can confirm he's physically okay for those that asked.
— Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com (@SeanRossSapp) May 29, 2022
MJF is currently scheduled to take on Wardlow at the Double or Nothing PPV. The stipulation is that if Wardlow wins, he’s free from MJF’s contract. If he loses, he can never sign a deal with AEW.
Maxwell’s contract with AEW is legitimately coming due in 2024. The PWInsider report notes that some within the company feel MJF has been disrespectful to AEW President Tony Khan as of late.
There’s no word on if Khan, himself, feels this way.
MJF has dropped several teases that he’ll ditch AEW in favor of WWE when his contract is due. He’s even made those references on AEW TV.
Fightful’s Will Washington reported earlier this month that not too many people within AEW are on MJF’s side with how he’s been handling things behind the scenes.
It’ll be interesting to see if this situation impacts the Double or Nothing card.
On May 28, AEW revealed new Series’ in their ‘Unmatched’ and ‘Unrivaled’ action figure lines during the Double or Nothing Fan Fest. A Ringside Collectibles Owen Hart exclusive figure was also promoted.

There’s an upcoming episode of MasterChef Junior that will feature one former WWE Superstar and three current WWE Superstars.
Junior Edition: WWE Tag Team
On June 2, 2022, an episode titled ‘Junior Edition: WWE Tag Team’ will premiere. The following superstars will appear: Natalya, The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, and Ember Moon (aka Athena). Moon was released by the WWE on November 4, 2021. She was with the promotion for six years. It seems that the FOX network recorded this episode a while ago.
Below is the posted synopsis for the episode:
The four remaining junior chefs pair up with WWE Superstars, who are much more comfortable in the ring. The winning junior receives tickets to a WWE match. In the elimination challenge, the chefs prepare one of Gordon Ramsay's signature dishes.
Athena’s Current Plans
Athena is scheduled to compete tonight at the Warrior Wrestling 22 event, The event takes place on May 28 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She will be defending the Warrior Wrestling Women’s Championship against Janai Kai.
Jim Ross believes that one AEW talent is rather underutilized.
AEW has a stacked roster. One criticism of the company has been that so many names are brought in that there’s no room for them on TV.
A good chunk of wrestlers are seen on AEW Dark and Dark: Elevation as a result.
Lance Archer Underutilized?
(via AEW)
During an edition of his Grilling JR podcast, AEW play-by-play ace Jim Ross expressed his belief that Lance Archer could be used more on TV.
“Smart move by Tony Khan to bring Jake [Roberts] in. We have such a young roster that you can’t get too many mentors, coaches, or whatever you want to say. Tony did a good job with that. I liked the pairing of Lance Archer and Jake.
“I think Lance is one of the more underutilized guys in the wrestling business.
“Big, rugged son of a gun. Nice man, reliable. You can’t get too many Lance Archer’s on your roster, I can promise you that. I thought that was a smart hire, and it came out of the blue to me.
“I’m not involved in the hiring or firing of talent in AEW, nor do I want to be. I’ve done that and been there. I’m happy that Tony made that hire, and it was good for all of us.”
AEW star Tay Conti has shared screenshots of threats that she’s received by a person on Instagram direct messages and Twitter.
The man continues to threaten Conti and her boyfriend Sammy Guevara.
Conti stated that the man has been sending her messages every day since January. According to the messages, the man plans on “doing something” to the couple next month.
Conti said that she will take legal precautions against the person. She even informed fans that if something happens to her and Guevara, they know who to look for.
She wrote the following on Twitter:
“This is absurd. His name is DUSTIN DOLEZAL and he’s been threatening Sammy and I since January. He writes us EVERY SINGLE DAY and apparently planning to do something with us in June. I’m taking legally precautions but if something happens to us y’all know who to look for [sic].”
The situation is certainly scary and after receiving threats every single day for almost five months, anyone would get worried. Unfortunately, Conti had to reveal publicly on social media that she is facing such harassment and receiving threatening messages.
Toxicity and negativity on social media have become prevalent. Recently, Britt Baker got flak online from fans for simply naming Sasha Banks her dream opponent in an interview. Ironically, in that same interview, Baker talked about the toxic environment on social media and how it can have serious real-life consequences.
Tay Conti will be teaming up with Guevara and Frankie Kazarian in a mixed-gender, trios match where they will face TNT Champion Scorpio Sky, Paige VanZant, and Ethan Page on AEW Double Or Nothing event on Sunday.
You can check out the tweet below:

There is an update on the in-ring status of AEW’s Paul Wight.
Back in Feb. 2021, Wight signed with AEW after once being considered a WWE lifer. Many expected Wight to mostly have a backstage presence and a run on commentary but he’s had even fewer matches than some anticipated.
As it turns out, Paul Wight isn’t done with in-ring work for AEW but he says the days of being in action often are over.
He told Submission Radio that years of wear and tear, his desire to be a full-time commentator, and not wanting to take time away from talent has led to him appearing in the ring less frequently.
“I had another hip transplant in December. So, now I have two fake hips now, I have two titanium hips so I’m like Wolverine.
“So the focus for me has just been on rehab, physical therapy, and just getting stronger. And my thing coming over [to AEW], honestly, to be sincere, is I came over here to work on my commentary skills because that’s where my future lies in wrestling, that’s where I want to contribute to the business.
“But I came over to compete periodically, in small doses, like I don’t see myself running for championships, that’s not my gig.
“Maybe if it works out and there’s a younger talent that I can help bring along, like a tag team championship, maybe. I’ve done my five nights a week for decades, I’ve put in my time.
“Now, for me, it’s about not taking anything away from the amazing AEW talent here that deserves that TV time, that deserves that opportunity to make those connections with the audience, that deserves that ability to go out and earn those pay-per-view paydays.
WWE Clash at the Castle is the first major stadium event to take place in the United Kingdom since SummerSlam 1992. It will also be the first major event by the company, in general, to take place in the European nation since Insurrextion 2003.
24 hours after Clash at the Castle was announced on April 12, 59,000 people had pre-registered for tickets. This number was even more than WrestleMania, breaking company records.
Now, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that during the first week, over 40,000 tickets were sold. The company reportedly sold 30,000 in the pre-sales and the rest of the 10,000 were sold on the first day when the public sale began on Friday, May 20.
The report goes on to state that WWE is very happy with these numbers. Clash at the Castle didn’t sell out instantly, but the event will do the largest non-WrestleMania gate in the history of pro-wrestling. The event reportedly even beat most WrestleMania events.
There are no matches announced for Clash at the Castle as of now. Drew McIntyre, who is featured prominently on the event’s promotional poster, said in a recent interview that he is looking forward to winning the WWE title by defeating Roman Reigns in front of British fans. More on that here.
Clash at the Castle will take place at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on September 3. Keep up to date with SEScoops’ coverage of the event.
Brian Cage hasn’t been seen in some time on AEW TV. His last appearance was back in the October 6 edition of Rampage where he lost an FTW Title Philadelphia Street Fight against Ricky Starks.
Fightful Select reported that Cage was present backstage at AEW Dynamite this past Wednesday. He hadn’t been seen backstage recently. There is no information regarding his return to the company or if there are any plans for him.
While Cage was not used by AEW, he continued wrestling on the independent scene. The company picked up his contract option despite not using him for months.
Cage also made an appearance at the ROH Supercard of Honor event on April 1. He defeated Ninja Mack with Tully Blanchard on his side.
Cage did tease a “shocking re-debut” recently when the official AEW Twitter account made a throwback “on this day” post, highlighting Cage’s debut at Double or Nothing 2020.
“About time to make a shocking return/ re-debut and do it again,” Cage wrote.
Considering AEW mentioned Brian Cage’s debut and he was also present backstage, it wouldn’t be surprising if we see him return to AEW programming soon.
WWE has made a change to the name of Raquel Rodriguez’s finishing move.
Fans watching the May 20 episode of SmackDown may have taken notice of some odd moments on commentary during Rodriguez’s match. Raquel took on Shotzi and pinned her just one week removed from giving Ronda Rousey all she could handle.
What was quite odd was that the commentary team was muted anytime they mentioned the “Chingona Bomb.” Fans suspected that WWE did this intentionally.
WWE has teased a brand new attitude for one of its SmackDown babyfaces.
For weeks, Madcap Moss and Happy Corbin have been feuding. The two used to be tag team partners until Corbin got jealous of Moss’ success.
It led to a match between the two at WrestleMania Backlash. Moss picked up the win but the rivalry is far from over.
On the May 13 episode of SmackDown, Moss had an in-ring interview when Corbin attacked him from behind. He placed his neck through a chair and crushed it with the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy.
During this past Friday’s SmackDown show, it was announced that Madcap Moss will be making his return on June 3. He said there will be no jokes or cap.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CeExOhVvLPh/
“You spit in the face of Andre’s legacy. You tried to end my career. But you didn’t – cuz Madcap is built different. Corbin, get ready to see a side of me you’ve never seen before
“No jokes. No cap. Next week on #SmackDown I’m coming to WHOOP YOUR ASS.”
While WWE played Madcap’s goofy theme and had a graphic of him with the suspenders on, commentators Michael Cole and Pat McAfee insisted that he was going to return with a new attitude.
Earlier this month, it was reported by WrestlingNews.co that ideas were pitched to give Moss a new gimmick. This would include new attire and a new theme.
It won’t be long to find out whether or not WWE goes through with such a change.
All Elite Wrestling presents AEW Double or Nothing live on pay-per-view this Sunday from Las Vegas, Nevada.
SEScoops staff members Andrew Ravens, Tyriece Simon and I got together to discuss our predictions for the top matches of this weekend’s big event.
Check out our AEW Double or Nothing 2022 predictions:
Buy In: Hook & Danhausen vs. Tony Nese & Mark Sterling
Andrew Ravens: This has been a fun build, but I would be shocked to see Hook lose a pre-show match just for Tony Nese. Yes, they have the out with Danhausen taking the pinfall loss, but what’s the point of giving Hook a loss? He can’t turn on a fellow babyface as the fans are too invested in him and everyone loves Danhausen. (Prediction: Hookhausen)
Tyriece Simon: The match should be a fun pre-show match. I expect Hookhausen to get the win. I think Sterling takes the pinfall, which helps protect Tony Nese. It’ll be interesting if Hook and Danhausen will remain a tag team and have more matches against other established AEW tag teams. (Prediction: Hookhousen)
Michael Reichlin: This is the most predictable match on the card. AEW wants to start the show off on a good note, and will do so with the lovable pairing of Danhausen and Hook. I’ve heard people talk about Hook being ‘wasted’ in this position, but he’s a rookie and benefits from the association with AEW’s most evil competitor. Hookhausen gets the win in a fun match. (Prediction: Hookhausen)
Consensus: Hookhausen
House of Black (Malakai Black, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews) vs. Death Triangle (Pac, Penta, and Rey Fenix)
Andrew Ravens: Although these two teams have received plenty of TV time to build to the match, I haven’t been intrigued enough to care. That’s not to say they won’t work hard and have a good match, but let’s move on to something else. House of Black goes over as they have more upside with Black leading the charge. (Prediction: House of Black)
Michael Reichlin: I’m just happy to see Death Triangle back together, and two legit trios teams squaring off. Everybody in this match is talented, despite both factions seemingly being stuck in first gear. This one has sleeper ‘match of the night’ potential. (Prediction: House of Black)
Tyriece Simon: Death Triangle is long overdue getting a win over House of Black. Malakai Black, Brody King, and Buddy Mathews have looked dominant in AEW. They can afford to lose a match. The Death Triangle needs to win. It will be interesting to see if the feud ends at Double or Nothing. The two factions could benefit from working with other people.
House of Black has other potential rivalries they could have, like the Blackpool Combat Club. Lucha Bros. could get back into the AEW tag team title picture, and Pac could have a singles feud. (Prediction: Death Triangle)
Consensus: House of Black
AEW Women’s World Championship: Thunder Rosa (c) vs. Serena Deeb
Michael Reichlin: Thunder Rosa needs a big win here. For whatever reason, it seems that her title reign has gotten off to a slow start. Britt Baker was the face of the Women’s division, while Rosa just seems to be there. That’s not a knock on her, but more because of the way she’s been presented. Pairing her against the veteran Deeb is a smart move, because they’re almost guaranteed to have a competitive match. I see Rosa getting the win, as AEW looks to build her some momentum and establish her as a fighting champion (Prediction: Thunder Rosa)
Tyriece Simon: Rosa should get the win, and this should be a good match. The fans are behind the Champion, so it doesn’t seem AEW will take the title off of her. It’s also Rosa’s second title defense. Deeb will have good moments in the match, but it should be about Rosa looking strong and overcoming the challenger. It’s also possible that the match ends so that it could lead to a rematch between the two. (Prediction: Thunder Rosa)
Andrew Ravens: Deeb is a really good wrestler, but no one expects her to dethrone Rosa for the title. Rosa hasn’t had that long as champion and AEW wouldn’t build up her title win for a short reign. (Prediction: Thunder Rosa)
Consensus: Thunder Rosa
AEW World Tag Team Championship: Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus (c) vs. Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland vs. Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs
Michael Reichlin: Like Thunder Rosa, Jurassic Express have also had a “sleepy” title reign. It doesnt help that FTR, who were left off the PPV, are arguably the best tag team in the world, at least over the past few months. I smell a title change here and I think Lee and Swerve have the right combination of size and agility to take the titles of Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus. (Prediction: Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland)
Andrew Ravens: I can see Lee and Strickland picking up the win here, but if Tony Khan wants heels as his Tag Team Champions then Starks and Hobbs could go over. I think it’s time for new champions and it really comes down to a pick ’em in this bout. (Prediction: Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland)
Tyriece Simon: I think this match has the chance to steal the show. It had an interesting dynamic with every team balancing strength and speed. I expect every team in the match to have a great showing, but I think the Champions retain the titles. It didn’t seem like the time to have the Jurassic Express lose. They are still hitting their stride, and it doesn’t seem likely that AEW will make a change. (Prediction: Jurassic Express)
Consensus: Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland win the AEW tag titles
Anarchy in the Arena: Jericho Appreciation Society vs. Moxley & Bryan Danielson, Santana & Ortiz and Eddie Kingston
Andrew Ravens: This is a coin flip kind of match as it makes sense for the babyfaces to go over, but I think the Jericho Appreciation Society wins here in order to set up a Blood & Guts match on an upcoming episode of Dynamite. (Prediction: Jericho Appreciation Society)
Tyriece Simon: This should be a victory for Kingston, Santana, Ortiz, and the Blackpool Combat Club. The Jericho Appreciation Society has gotten the advantage over Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz several times. The Blackpool Combat Club helps even the odds to go against the heels.
I think the feud could end here, unless AEW has more plans for Jericho Appreciation Society and Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz. It feels like Double or Nothing is the final culmination of the rivalry. (Prediction: Blackpool Combat Club, Santana & Ortiz, Eddie Kingston)
Michael Reichlin: (Prediction: Jericho Appreciation Society)
Consensus: Jericho Appreciation Society
AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill vs Anna Jay
Andrew Ravens: There’s no doubt who will win this match and that’s Jade. She will be pushed strongly until she meets a top star that will defeat her. It’s that simple. This should be kept short and to the point. (Prediction: Jade Cargill)
Tyriece Simon: This title match seems like it’s just to have the TBS Championship match on the card. That’s fine, but I wish Cargill and Jay had more time to make the feud personal. Cargill should get the win and could continue her dominant reign as TBS Champion. I wonder what long-term plan the company has for Cargill. She’s almost beaten most of the faces in the AEW women’s division. Jay will have some moments to shine in the match, but Cargill will overcome and defeat her. (Prediction: Jade Cargill)
Michael Reichlin: Jade Cargill has gotten over working short, dominant matches. I don’t expect AEW to mess with this formula just yet. This is probably the most predictable match on the main card. Cargill gets another decisive win. (Prediction: Jade Cargill)
Consensus: Jade Cargill
The Young Bucks vs. The Hardys
Michael Reichlin: Yes, this match is happening on the big stage about 5 years too late. Sure, the Hardys are past their prime – they’re even acknowledging this on television. But it’s still the Young Bucks and the Hardys. Both teams will bring their A-Game, because this is a match that you know means a lot to both teams. It’s going to be a trip seeing them in the ring together and I expect this to be the best match of the Hardys’ AEW run. (Prediction: Young Bucks)
Andrew Ravens: This should be one of the better matches on the card. It’s a coinflip in my eyes as to who goes over. I think we get at least one more match between these two tag teams. I think The Young Bucks go over here to lead to another match and it will likely be done in cheap fashion. (Prediction: Young Bucks)
Tyriece Simon: It’s almost unbelievable that this match is happening in 2022. This is a dream match for fans who haven’t seen them compete in Ring of Honor. However, it is unfortunate that the build to the match has been lackluster. This match is a toss-up because both teams could use the win.
The Hardys are still a new team in AEW and could use a win over an established team. The Young Bucks feel like they took a backseat to other teams and could benefit from a win over the Hardys. I think the Hardys defeat The Young Bucks, but it won’t be the end of their feud. The Hardys winning could also lead to a future AEW tag-team Championship match. (Prediction: The Hardys)
Consensus: Young Bucks
Owen Hart Men’s Tournament Finals: Samoa Joe vs. Adam Cole
Tyriece Simon: Adam Cole needs a big win at Double or Nothing. He’s lost two AEW World Championship matches against Hangman Adam Page previously. A win over Samoa Joe helps establish him as a credible threat and someone that can challenge for the World Championship again. Joe is already the Ring of Honor Television Champion, so he doesn’t need to win the Owen Hart Cup. It’s also possible that Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh could interfere in the match to help Cole. (Prediction: Adam Cole)
Michael Reichlin: Adam Cole has more to gain from a win here, and has the brighter future in AEW. These two have history in NXT and traveled similar paths to AEW. It’s a match worthy of the finals, but I’d be really surprised if Cole doesn’t get the win. (Prediction: Adam Cole)
Andrew Ravens: This could be one of the best matches of the night. I’m siding with Adam Cole here as he needs a big win after dropping back-to-back losses to Adam Page for the World Title. Joe has booked strong as the ROH Champion so he doesn’t need the win as much as Cole. (Prediction: Adam Cole)
Consensus: Adam Cole
Owen Hart Women’s Tournament Finals: Britt Baker vs. Ruby Soho
Tyriece Simon: Dr. Baker doesn’t need to win the Owen Hart Cup. She is a former dominant AEW women’s Champion and has defeated many challengers, including her opponent at Double or Nothing. However, it’s unclear if AEW believes she doesn’t need to win. She is still one of the most popular stars in AEW, and the company could still want to protect her from taking losses. Soho needs a win and could benefit tremendously from defeating Dr. Baker. I am picking Soho, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the former AEW champion wins. (Prediction: Ruby Soho)
Andrew Ravens: Ruby Soho should win here as Baker is still the biggest women’s star that AEW has despite not holding the title anymore. Soho needs something to get her over a little bit more and a win here over Baker would do just that. We could also get a double turn with Soho going heel and Baker being a babyface based on the way Soho got here. (Prediction: Ruby Soho)
Michael Reichlin: Ruby Soho’s AEW run has been disappointing so far, and this will be a token achievement she can hang her hat on. Baker will almost certainly hold the AEW Women’s world championship again, while I’m not sure Ruby Soho will ever reach that level. (Prediction: Britt Baker)
Consensus: Ruby Soho
MJF vs. Wardlow
Tyriece Simon: Wardlow should win his long-awaited match with MJF. His former employer has put him through so much trouble that the logical conclusion is for Wardlow to win. The feud has also been brewing for over a year, and it is time to end. Interestingly, MJF will possibly lose his second Pay Per View match. It’s unclear what AEW’s long-term plans are for him. (Prediction: Wardlow)
Andrew Ravens: Wardlow should over here based on everything that is on the line. He’s a future main eventer and MJF is already there despite not challenging for the World Title yet. That will come. This has been a really good feud and now it’s just time to top it off with Wardlow winning. (Prediction: Wardlow)
Michael Reichlin: This has been one of the best feuds in AEW history, bar none. The slow burn has been tremendous. It’s AEW’s longest running storyline and it’s finally coming to fruition. MJF is the best heel in all of pro wrestling, which means he doesn’t need to win to stay popular. Wardlow is a rising babyface star that will gain a lot by finally pinning the man he was hired to protect. Wardlow gets the win here, is relieved of his contract to MJF. It’s only a matter of time before Wardlow is All Elite. (Prediction: Wardlow)
Consensus: Wardlow
AEW World Championship: Hangman Page (c) vs. CM Punk
“Hangman” Adam Page vs. CM Punk
Andrew Ravens: I think a title change happens here. Page has had a notable run as champion, maybe not the best in the history of the title, but it was fun and now it’s time to move on. Fans have been waiting to see Punk as a main event player again. Punk could only put over the young guys in his promos for so long and now in the last few months, it’s been building to this point. Give Punk the title and turn Page heel since they’ve already hinted at it. (Prediction: CM Punk)
Tyriece Simon: Double or Nothing could be the end of Hangman Adam Page’s title reign. We are getting close to the anniversary of CM Punk AEW debut, and he has slowly been built up to have his first AEW World Championship match. Page has had a remarkable title reign, but it feels like this is the time to take the championship off him. It should be a good physical match, but I expect CM Punk to get the better of Page. The question is will Page shake CM Punk’s hand after the match? (Prediction: CM Punk)
Michael Reichlin: I love Hangman Page and he’s had some banger matches during since winning the AEW World title from Kenny Omega. However, he’s not exactly setting the world on fire as champion. I think CM Punk turns heel and gets the win to jumpstart the next Summer of Punk. There are so many high-profile matches waiting for a heel CM Punk. And just wait until MJF gets to gloat, “I told you so” about Punk being a bad guy all along. Hangman can be proud of this title reign, but I it’s time to turn the page and start a new chapter for AEW. (Prediction: CM Punk)
Consensus: CM Punk
There you have it, our AEW Double or Nothing 2022 predictions. Comment and let us know who you think will have their had raised this Sunday night in Las Vegas!
“Since it’s a pretty hot topic right now, I’m going to say Sasha Banks.… I think she is one of the top draws in all of WWE. She’s such a superstar, she’s such a good wrestler. She’s definitely somebody that I would love to wrestle,” Baker said.
Speaking to KXST-AM The Playmakers, Baker revealed that she got a lot of criticism from fans for wanting to face Banks (as transcribed by SEScoops):
“I literally answered an interview question. I didn’t call Sasha Banks out, I didn’t say, ‘Hey, this match needs to happen.’ I was just asked a question and I gave an answer,” Baker explained.
“They said what’s a cool dream match that you would like to have and Sasha is one of my favorite wrestlers. It wasn’t me challenging her, or challenging WWE. All I did was just say ‘Hey this is a cool dream match.’
“Her fans and the WWE fans and even just some wrestling fans, in general, did not like that and I don’t even think they read the whole interview. They read the clickbait and they run with it. They create such a nasty narrative when they don’t even know what they’re talking about and it is so frustrating.
“Because in my position, I am not going to respond to @John515 that has 19 followers. But I want to respond to John with 19 followers and tell him to shut the hell up, you don’t even know what you’re talking about!” Baker clarified.
Ironically, in that same interview, Britt Baker talked about the rampant toxic negativity on social media. She spoke about the cyberbullying that celebrities have to face online, to the point where she believes that some people just go to Twitter so that they can say something nasty and mean.
“I think people just go on to Twitter just to be heard in a negative way. They just want to say something nasty and hateful and mean, so they will go on to Twitter for literally no [other] reason and they just say it and make sure they tag you in it, too,” Baker said.
Baker also talked about the impact this has on celebs and how it can have serious real-world consequences, like someone taking their life. You can read the excerpt here.
