Tony Khan Says The Length of AEW Double Or Nothing Helped Make The Show A Commercial Success

0

Last night AEW held their annual Double or Nothing pay-per-view from the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas Nevada, the promotion’s first major event from Sin City since the inaugural Double or Nothing back in 2019.

Company President Tony Khan spoke with the wrestling media in the post-Double or Nothing scrum, where he touched on a number of different topics, including addressing fan concerns that the event ran too long. It clocked in at around 4 hours and 40 minutes.

Khan begins by admitting that he did add some length to Double or Nothing to help them out commercially as the show was going up against Game 7 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals.

“I ended up adding a little bit to the length of the show to help the show commercially and help the show make money. I think it made, if not a seven-figure difference, at least a six-figure difference.”

On that subject he adds that if not for the stiff competition he may have ended the show a little sooner, which would coincide with the length of previous AEW PPVs.

“I probably would have ended the show the same time they always end. We’ve done a lot of the best pay-per-views anyone’s ever done, they’ve all ended between 11:40 and 11:55-ish, 11:56, 11:57 on the east coast.”

While Khan seems pretty happy with the show length he isn’t opposed to shortening events in the future. He tells the media that fan feedback is important to him, and he will do his best to listen and adjust for the future.

“I will listen to the feedback of the fans. Revolution had pretty good response and commercially the show was really successful, and had similar length bell to bell… But like I said, I’ll listen to the feedback. This was a unique circumstance.”

Double or Nothing saw the crowning of the Owen Hart tournament come to an end, the debuts of Athena and Stokely Hathaway, and CM Punk becoming the promotion’s fifth world champion.

William Regal On Who Talked Him Into Joining AEW

0

William Regal was ready to finally take some time off from wrestling after over three decades following his WWE release, but Bryan Danielson talked him into joining AEW.

The former NXT General Manager recently had an interview with Talk Sport. He discussed things such as the formation of the Blackpool Combat Club and more.

Speaking about his release from WWE, Regal said that he was ready to take a year off to just guide his son. However, Bryan reached out to him about joining AEW:

“I was ready to just have a year off and do nothing but talk with my son and guide him through what he’s doing. And then Bryan called me. And if it hadn’t of been Bryan calling me, I wouldn’t probably be here now. Nobody else would have talked me into this.”

William Regal said that Danielson is like another son to him. He then explained how quickly his AEW deal was put together:

“We have a 22-year relationship, but he is like another son to me. There was just no questions asked. It was to come and do something with Bryan, but they didn’t even tell me what. ‘Course I will, yeah.’ A few days later, I was having conversations with AEW and then two weeks later I was at the pay-per-view,”

Regal was released from his WWE contract in January this year. He made his surprise AEW debut during the Revolution PPV in March. He broke up a fight between Danielson and Jon Moxley and later formed a team with them.

‘It’s F*cking Bullshit’: Tony Khan Fires Back At Eric Bischoff For Saying CM Punk Is A Financial Flop

0

Tony Khan has fired back at Eric Bischoff for calling CM Punk ‘the biggest financial flop in wrestling history.’

The Double or Nothing PPV saw AEW finally pulling the trigger on the Straight Edge star. He beat Hangman Page to become the new AEW world champion. After the show, Punk was asked about his very public feud with the former WCW president. Khan, however, took it upon himself to reply to Bischoff and claimed that it’s ‘f*cking bullshit’:

“That’s fucking bullshit.” said Tony Khan, “I can tell — there’s only one person who can attest to that. I don’t what other people — I can only attest to what’s happened here, and in public record, and some of these things are a matter of public record, because of things of freedom of information and stuff. We do have over the years a good amount of financial data in pro wrestling.”

No One Has Made A Bigger Difference: Tony Khan

Tony Khan Eric Bischoff
(via AEW & WWE)

It all started when Eric Bischoff said that AEW needs to stop catering to a specific audience. CM Punk responded by saying that fans should let “bad-take carnies” die in the dark. This is when the former wrestling promoter called out Punk and claimed that he has not been a financial success. Though according to Tony Khan, their new world champion has made a more positive impact than any other star:

“I can tell you, like no one wrestler has ever come in and made a bigger plus-delta financial difference in the history of my company going into, this is the third-year anniversary this week, going into year four no one person has ever made a more positive impact. We just did a record pay-per-view buy. Every PPV we’ve done, he’s done a four PPV cycle now, ever one of them was the record.”

Tony Khan also noted how CM Punk was the guy he put on Rampage when they clashed against SmackDown last year. He mentioned that WWE admitted to their loss in that face off and it’s a ‘matter of record in a f*cking court.’ The AEW Owner said that Punk is ‘the biggest part of financial success’ in the history of his promotion.

Update on MJF’s Status Following AEW Double or Nothing

MJF made a quick exit after AEW Double or Nothing and an update on his immediate future has surfaced.

The weekend of DoN was a hectic one for AEW officials. MJF and Samoa Joe failed to attend meet and greets but their situations couldn’t have been more different.

Joe didn’t attend Fan Fest because he was accidentally double-booked. He already had voice commitments during that time so he isn’t at fault.

MJF, however, no-showed the festivities due to lingering issues with AEW.

The situation was tense enough that Fightful reported there was a plane booked for MJF set to fly out of Las Vegas one night before Double or Nothing.

PWInsider later reported that the plane was indeed booked for Newark, New Jersey but MJF stayed in “Sin City.”

MJF’s Future With AEW

MJF did indeed show up at DoN and was squashed by Wardlow in the opening match. An angle was then shot where MJF was stretchered out of the building.

PWInsider is reporting that MJF isn’t expected to be on the road for the next several weeks. That period could be even longer, the report notes.

Fightful also reported that MJF showed up at T-Mobile Arena just before the match and immediately made his exit after.

Simone Johnson Defends new WWE Ring Name

0

Ava Raine, aka Simone Johnson, has said she doesn’t understand why her new ring name is proving to be a heated topic with fans.

Recently, Johnson, the daughter of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, changed all her social media handles to use the Ava Raine name, which appears to be her ring name from now on.

The name has received criticism from fans who believe that there was nothing wrong with Johnson’s original name and that WWE is distancing her from her iconic father.

On Twitter, Johnson said that her new name does not diminish any of the success of her father or anyone in the legendary Samoan wrestling family founded by The Rock’s grandfather Peter Maivia.

She added that people could still bash her no matter what name she had, and thanked those fans who have supported her.

This name change has become the latest trope from WWE, which doesn’t want any wrestler to use any part of their real name.

WWE changes the name of Superstars to a name they can trademark, to prevent a Superstar from being able to use the name they made famous in WWE in another promotion.

Despite the significant star-power being a Johnson brings Raine, the daughter of The Rock is no exception to the rule.

Ironically, The Rock’s original WWE name ‘Rocky Maivia’ leaned heavily on his father and grandfather: Rocky Johnson and Peter Maivia.

It wouldn’t be until turning heel and making a name for himself as The Rock that fans were won over by the future Hollywood A-Lister.

Johnson signed with WWE in February 2020 but suffered a knee injury that required surgery that September.

She is yet to make her official NXT 2.0 debut but has been seen several times at the WWE Performance Center, in Orlando, Florida.

Tony Khan Declines To Comment On MJF Situation

0

Tony Khan has decided not to make any public comments about the MJF situation that occurred before the Double Or Nothing PPV this Sunday.

The AEW president and owner took part in the post-media scrum after the big event. As expected, the very first question he was asked was about the young star but he declined to comment on the situation:

“I’m not gonna comment on that,” said Tony Khan, “I’ve got a lot of stuff from the pay-per-view that I can comment on, but I’m not going to comment on that.”

“I’m not gonna comment on that,”

– Tony Khan on MJF

Tony Khan and MJF

MJF has been unhappy with his current contract for a while. He has been looking to get a raise and has made public comments about how he should be paid more.

The situation escalated yesterday when the 26-year-old missed a scheduled meet and greet event and officials couldn’t contact him.

This started many rumors about his status for Sunday’s PPV. He wasn’t seen in the arena early in the day. AEW also stopped advertising his match with Wardlow for a bit and people were not sure about his status for the show hours before the event.

MJF did finally show up and competed in the opening match of the night. However, a report from Fightful select noted that he arrived “shortly before his match, left right after, and has a lot to think about.”

Now Tony Khan’s refusal to comment on the whole situation reaffirms that the dispute between the two parties is real. There is a lot of work that needs to be done before they are on the same page again.

CM Punk On How The AEW Locker Room Feels About Him After Double Or Nothing

0

CM Punk thinks that the majority of the AEW locker room likes him. The ones who don’t are the same ones who aren’t providing any value themselves.

The wrestling veteran took part in the post-media scrum after Double or Nothing PPV. He was asked about his previous comments about not fitting in the AEW locker room and how he feels now. Punk gave his best diplomatic answer to it:

“I have grown so wise in my old age that I will do my best to be as diplomatic as I possibly can with this answer. If there are people backstage that don’t like me, it’s a minority. If anybody says nobody wants me here and nobody likes me, I would like to say that nobodies don’t like me and nobodies don’t want me here.”

‘There Are No Limitations Here’: CM Punk

CM Punk main evented the Double or Nothing PPV alongside Hangman Adam Page. He defeated the Cowboy to become the new AEW World Heavyweight Champion at the show. Opening up about his recent comment of wasting his time in WWE, Punk said that he feels he never reached his full potential in Vince McMahon’s promotion:

“I said something that I think a lot of people obviously on its face will think is ridiculous. I said I feel like the seven years I was out of the ring I didn’t feel was wasted. I feel almost that the 10 years that I spent in WWE was wasted.

Because I feel it is Management, Owner, Booker, whoever’s job, is to get the most out of all the talent. I feel that I never [reached my full potential]. I reached the potential that I could have given the limitations they constantly put on me. I feel here [in AEW] there’s no limitations put on myself or anybody and sky’s the limit. So I finally feel like I could reach my potential.”

According to CM Punk, he doesn’t have to engage in silly battles in AEW. Tony Khan’s company is a place where everyone can reach their full potential:

“So that’s what I mean. When I say that. God damn, I look back on that time, and I’m like, ‘What are we doing?’ To me, you’re always trying to make the most money and put on the best possible show you can. It felt like 10 years of fighting silly battles and standing on my own d*ck and I’m not in the business of trying to stand on my own d*ck. I’ll say one more time. I don’t do that here. I think everybody here can reach their fullest potential.”

What Happened After AEW Double or Nothing Went Off The Air

AEW Double or Nothing is in the books and we have a new world champion.

The event emanated from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday night (May 29). In the main event, CM Punk challenged Hangman Page for the AEW World Championship.

After a referee bump, Hangman teased nailing Punk with the gold. He had second thoughts and instead went for the Buckshot Lariat.

Hangman’s hesitation cost him as Punk countered with the GTS to pick up the win. He is now the new AEW World Champion.

After The Show

When AEW Double or Nothing went off the air, CM Punk addressed the fans. He thanked his wife, April Mendez (AJ Lee). He also said he couldn’t have been a world champion in pro wrestling again without the fans.

Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler of FTR made their way to the ring to celebrate with Punk.

All Elite Wrestling announced the bout on the April 27th edition of Dynamite after Punk served as guest commentator for a Dax Harwood vs. Cash Wheeler match.

Punk said that he will not guarantee a win against Page, but that every match since he joined AEW has been warming up to this. He promised to “fight until the wheels come off.” Two weeks prior, they had a brief face-to-face staredown.

The match marked Punk’s first World Title bout since July 2013 when he challenged for the WWE World Heavyweight Title match against Alberto Del Rio at a house show in Atlanta, a match that Punk won by disqualification.

Page became the AEW World Title when he defeated Kenny Omega at Full Gear in November 2021.

Jurassic Express Retain Tag Team Titles At AEW Double Or Nothing

0

Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus) had the deck stacked against them when they defended the AEW Tag Team Titles against Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland vs. Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs in a triple threat match at this year’s Double Or Nothing pay-per-view event in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The match was wild. There was a scary spot where Starks fell off the apron and landed on his neck. Strickland hit an outside dive then Lee. Lee and Strickland hit a powerbomb/foot stomp combo on Jungle Boy. Jurassic Express hit their finisher for the win.

That bout was set up on the May 18th edition of Dynamite when Lee and Strickland defeated The WorkHorsemen, which earned them a spot in the top five tag team rankings.

Post-match, Starks, and Hobbs confronted Strickland and Lee before Christian Cage, Luchasaurus, and Jungle Boy appeared where Cage issued the pay-per-view challenge to both teams.

Jurassic Express won the Tag Team Titles on the January 5th edition of Dynamite by beating The Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fénix). Heading into this show, they held the titles for over 140 days.

Time will tell whether AEW continues this feud or goes into a different direction heading into Wednesday’s Dynamite.

0

Thunder Rosa made her latest title defense as the AEW Women’s Champion against Serena Deeb at the Double Or Nothing pay-per-view event in Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

They went back and forth early. They traded submissions. The crowd was dead for this match. Rosa with her finisher for the win.

The challenge was issued on the May 4th edition of Dynamite following a confrontation between the champion and the new challenger. Rosa called out the number one contender, which was Deeb, on this show. Deeb stated that in order for the AEW women’s division to be the best in the world, the best wrestler in the world needed to be champion, and she considered herself on another level. Deeb stated that she would be taking the title from Rosa at Double or Nothing, she would be taking the title.

Deeb became the top ranked AEW women’s wrestler after defeating Hikaru Shida in a street fight.

Time will tell whether AEW continues this feud or goes into a different direction heading into Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Wardlow Beats MJF At AEW Double Or Nothing

0

The highly anticipated match between MJF and Wardlow did take place as scheduled at the AEW Double Or Nothing pay-per-view event despite the speculation regarding MJF’s status for the show.

The match had the stipulation that if Wardlow won then he’ll be free from the contract that he signed with MJF, but if MJF won then Wardlow can never sign with AEW. MJF was heavily booed by the fans, who chanted “he showed up.” MJF did a hurricanrana and MJF sold his leg like an injury. MJF tried to use the diamond ring, but was caught. Wardlow hit over 5 powerbombs in a row for the win. MJF was stretched from ringside.

Over the last 24 hours, MJF’s status has been the main point of conversation after he no-showed Saturday’s Fan Fest meet and greet. AEW has yet to comment publicly on the situation. Then he booked a flight out of Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday night to Newark, NJ, but didn’t get on the plane and stayed in Las Vegas.

Earlier this month, it was reported by Fightful that MJF is leaning towards leaving AEW when his contract expires in 2024. MJF signed a five-year deal with AEW in 2019.

AEW President Tony Khan spoke about MJF’s contract situation being mentioned on screen during a media call ahead of Double or Nothing and stated that he thinks it’s great that MJF has been able to address some real-life grievances and air his actual status.

Opening Match For AEW Double or Nothing 2022 Revealed

It looks like the first match on the AEW Double or Nothing 2022 card has been revealed.

AEW DoN will be taking place inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada tonight (May 29). An AEW World Title match is set between Hangman Adam Page and CM Punk.

There are plenty of other matches such as a three-team tag title match, an AEW Women’s Title match, and much more.

Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated is reporting that opening the PPV portion of the card will be MJF vs. Wardlow.

“Double or Nothing pay per view is currently scheduled to be MJF vs. Wardlow.

“Young Bucks-Hardys is second, then Jade Cargill-Anna Jay. Anarchy in the Arena is two before the main event, which is Hangman-Punk.”

MJF vs. Wardlow is an interesting opener given the circumstances.

Maxwell no-showed AEW Fan Fest on Saturday. It was reported that AEW officials initially couldn’t contact him.

It’s been said that things got ugly between the two sides and there was a possibility that MJF could’ve taken a flight out of Las Vegas but ultimately stayed.

The AEW Double or Nothing PPV will begin at 8 p.m. ET.

Tony Nese and Danhausen started off the action. Danhausen set up for a curse before planting him a Hurricanrana. Sterling distracted Danhausen and Nese capitalized with a Clothesline. Sterling tagged in and stomped on Danhausen in the corner of the ring.

Tony tagged back in and continued to beat Danhausen down in the corner of the ring. Hook eventually got the tag and sent Nese across the ring with an overhead throw. Hook followed it up with a couple Suplexes to Sterling and Nese before posing for the crowd. Hook was about to go for Redrum but Danhausen wanted the tag. Danhausen tagged in and put his boot on Sterling’s chest for the pinfall victory. Hook wasn’t pleased with Danhausen stealing the spotlight.

Wardlow Dominated MJF

Maxwell Jacob Friedman’s theme hit to begin Double or Nothing and he made his way to the entrance ramp to a chorus of boos. The crowd then loudly chanted “asshole!” at MJF and he flipped them off. Wardlow was escorted to the ring by security to a great reaction from the crowd.

https://twitter.com/AEW/status/1531064337653170176?s=20&t=Q_Pe1ho8ec-HWEy9II-_6g

MJF got out of the ring to begin the match as Wardlow posed on the turnbuckle. The bell rang and Maxwell got out of the ring again and mocked the crowd. MJF tried to attack Wardlow but wound up running away again. Wardlow finally caught MJF and brought him into the ring. Wardlow went for a Powerbomb but MJF bit him on top of the head.

Wardlow flexed and MJF poked him in the eye. A “f*ck you MJF!” chant broke out as Wardlow set up for another Powerbomb. MJF countered into a Hurricanrana for a one count and then pretended to be injured. MJF tried to put on the Dynamite Diamond Ring but Wardlow and the referee saw it. The referee took the ring away and MJF started trying to bargain with Wardlow. He claimed that he was going to quadruple his salary and offered a handshake. Wardlow obliged but didn’t let go and planted him with a Powerbomb.

The crowd wanted more and Wardlow hit Maxwell with another Powerbomb in the middle of the ring. Wardlow asked the crowd if they wanted another one and he connected with a third Powerbomb. Wardlow delivered two more Powerbombs but opted not to go for the cover. Wardlow hit some more Powerbombs for the pinfall victory and the crowd erupted. A stretcher was brought down and MJF was put in a neck brace and (hilariously) and oxygen mask. He was then stretchered backstage by AEW security and Pat Buck. After the match, Tony Schiavone announced Wardlow is signed with All Elite Wrestling.

The Hardys def. Young Bucks

Matt & Jeff Hardy battled Matt and Nick Jackson tonight at Double or Nothing. Matt Hardy & Matt Jackson traded taunts to start off the match before locking up in the middle of the ring. The Hardys took control but Matt escaped to the corner and tagged in Nick Jackson. Jeff Hardy tagged in as well and locked up with Nick.

Jeff hit a shoulder tackle but Nick popped right up back up and delivered a shoulder tackle of his own. Hardy hit a couple of Clotheslines and The Hardys mocked the Young Bucks’ poses. The crowd was chanting “Brandon Cutler” and the Young Bucks got annoyed and shoved Brandon.

Young Bucks isolated Jeff in the ring and beat him down. Hardy hit Young Bucks with a double Clothesline and started crawling to the corner. Brandon Cutler tripped Matt Hardy up on the apron and Young Bucks kept beating Jeff Hardy down. The action spilled to the outside and Jeff Hardy hit a flip onto Matt Jackson. Nick then climbed to the top rope and flipped onto everyone.

Back in the ring, Nick Jackson hit Matt Hardy with some punches to the face. Young Bucks hit a Splash/Moonsault combo on Matt Hardy for a two count. WWE Advertising Money in The Bank Outside of AEW Double or Nothing Venue

WWE is hyping up its Money in the Bank PPV at the sight of AEW Double or Nothing.

AEW is in Las Vegas tonight (May 29) but WWE will make its way to “Sin City” on July 2. Double or Nothing takes place inside T-Mobile Arena, while Money in the Bank has been moved from Allegiant Stadium to the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Observant fan Sean Slate took notice of a WWE truck advertising MITB with Cody Rhodes front and center outside of the DoN venue.

In recent days, we’ve seen AEW President Tony Khan take a shot at WWE over moving MITB from a stadium to an arena. WWE has said they have moved to the “intimate confines” of the MGM Grand.

There’s a lot of buzz surrounding Double or Nothing tonight. Many are wondering about the status of MJF, who no-showed a meet and greet on Saturday amid issues with AEW.

Hours before the show, he hadn’t arrived at the building but AEW has put back the hype video for his match with Wardlow on YouTube. As of now, the match is still scheduled to go on.

Very Latest on MJF, Is He In The Building For AEW Double Or Nothing?

Tension is building just hours away from AEW Double or Nothing and MJF is at the center of it all.

This weekend has been a wild one for AEW officials to say the least. MJF and Samoa Joe weren’t present at AEW Fan Fest but their situations were quite different.

In Joe’s case, Sean Ross Sapp reports that this may have been the result of an accidental double booking. Joe already had commitments for voiceover work, so this was an error on AEW’s part.

With MJF, he flat out no-showed.

PWInsider reported that AEW officials initially couldn’t contact him despite attempts. Fightful followed that story up, reporting a flight out of Las Vegas was booked for MJF just one night before Double or Nothing.

PWInsider then reported that MJF remained in Las Vegas as he didn’t board the plane to Newark, New Jersey.

Is MJF Inside T-Mobile Arena?

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer is reporting that as of about three hours before the AEW Double or Nothing Buy-In show, MJF has not been seen inside the building.

Furthermore, AEW has removed its hype video on YouTube promoting the MJF vs. Wardlow match scheduled for tonight. Earlier today, the company removed a tweet hyping up the match.

Reports have insisted that this is a very real situation between MJF and AEW. It’ll be interesting to see if something was worked out and AEW is milking it or if MJF’s status will truly come down to the wire.

Update: The video hyping up MJF vs. Wardlow has been put back on the YouTube channel.

WWE Had Internal Doubt About Stephanie McMahon’s Abilities As An Executive (Report)

0

Andrew Zarian, Dave Meltzer, Bryan Alvarez and Garrett Gonzalez talked about Stephanie McMahon taking a leave of absence during a special edition of “We’re Live Pal.” They discussed the various stories and rumors circulating about her decision to step away, at least for now. Zarian said that he had spoken with someone high up about Stephanie and that there was more to the story.

Stephanie’s Abilities As An Executive Called Into Question

“[It was a] very bizarre conversation, I’ll tell you that. I didn’t expect that phone call. It was a phone call that kind of veered into a discussion about Steph. So I asked and I was like, ‘Hey, anything I could add to this? What’s going on?’ And, you know, some of the comments, I was shocked.

One being that people internally and this is coming from someone in the know in WWE. This wasn’t like a guy in catering,” Zarian said.

Zarian added, “The comment was that internally, there was doubt put on Steph [and] her abilities as an executive. And a lot of this started after she absorbed some of Michelle Wilson’s responsibilities after she left. One [responsibility] being ad sales and sponsorship. And the comment that I found interesting was that they mentioned that the investors were questioning why they weren’t performing as well. And internally, there was some questioning as to why that wasn’t performing.

I think a month ago, [WWE’s Head of Global Sales & Partnerships] Claudine Lilien…she went over to handle that and she was released a month ago and Nick [Khan] has taken over all these responsibilities. When the Shane issue happened at Royal Rumble, WWE was pretty quick to kind of say, yeah he got sent home for all the reasons that you heard, right? I was not expecting the words to be used for Steph because at the end of the day, the McMahons are the McMahons and they are the most protected people in that company.”

Miscommunications About Keeping The Story Under Wraps

Meltzer jumped in and added that he spoke to someone who heard that there were efforts to keep the story behind Stephanie’s absence out of the press. Meltzer said that this is a case of miscommunication because Zarian’s source wanted the story to get out.

Meltzer stated, “As far as Steph goes, like, if and when she comes back, and it won’t be soon, there’s a real good chance it won’t be in the same position… But it was interesting, because I talked to somebody about something similar and asked about Stephanie in that in that realm, and you know, certain things were explained that…there’s people who Stephanie dealt with that, but because Vince always had to answer, you know, she didn’t have the power. Nobody does. Vince has all the power. She’s someone who talks to Vince but at the end of the day, Vince is going to make those decisions.

But the thing was, there’s some people who are saying stuff and a person told me – he’s like, ‘if anyone hears that, they’re gonna be gone. No one can say anything bad publicly about Steph.’ And it’s like like a left hand and a right hand thing. Yeah. You (Zarian) were told, in a way, because they wanted it out.”

Zarian said that the source used “buzzy” words with him and those were terms that they wanted him to use when leaking the story. Zarian pointed out how Nick Khan has now become a senior executive in WWE because of how many office people have been let go.

Speculation On Why The Story Was Leaked

Zarian began to speculate on the reason that his source would’ve wanted to get the story out with the buzzwords they used.

Zarian said, “So you could see that this is a big change. But now the big story is okay, so why would that comment be made? There’s a reason for it. You know, you can speculate all you want. Is it to disconnect the McMahons from the company a little bit so if there is a sale positioning, it’s easier on the audience, maybe? … Or it can easily be, you know, get the stories out there to make it easier to change that old guard in our company. I was really surprised, and I hear some wacky things from there from people like crazy, crazy things. I was really shocked to hear that this conversation would happen.”

Allin recently spoke with ESPN to promote Sunday’s AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view from Las Vegas.

Darby Allin says Punk deserves to be headlining PPV’s because he leads by example.

“Everyone wants the top spot, but not everyone wants to work for it,” said Allin. “But he works for it. He’ll go out there randomly on a Wednesday with a match announced like an hour before the show and kill it. He’s not a prima donna. He’s ready to rock. He’s ready to be put to work.”

“Lead by example, and he’s the best at it.”

“That’s all I want everyone to do, is to be put to work. You’ve got guys saying, ‘I don’t feel like wrestling this week.’ Get the f— out of here. With him, it’s like, ‘Let’s go. I want to show people what I can do. I want to be put to work.’ Lead by example, and he’s the best at it.”

CM Punk wrestled Darby Allin at AEW All Out 2021 in his first match in over seven years. Punk got the win, but the feud and match were career highlights for Allin. They’d later team together along with Sting in a memorable match on AEW Dynamite.

Injured WWE Star Big E Removes Neck Brace

In what could be a positive sign, Big E has been able to finally remove his neck brace.

During the March 11 episode of WWE SmackDown, Big E suffered a broken neck. The former WWE Champion was given an overhead belly-to-belly suplex from Ridge Holland on the outside.

Big E landed on his neck and was stretchered out of the arena.

The good news right away was that E was able to move all his extremities and there was no spinal damage. He was also initially told he wouldn’t need surgery but his C1 wasn’t healing as well as he hoped.

Big E was told to leave the neck brace on in hopes of avoiding fusion surgery.

It looks like there is reason to be optimistic as E took to his Instagram account to reveal he has been able to remove his neck brace.

We at SEScoops wish Big E a full and speedy recovery.
