Leon Slater Opens Up About Making TNA Wrestling X Division History, AJ Styles Dream Match & More

Leon Slater is still on a high from Total Nonstop Action Wrestling’s Slammiversary. The milestone event where, in front of the company’s biggest crowd in North America, won the X Division Championship from Moose. At 20, he made history as the youngest to ever hold the championship.

“I do believe it was the best day of my life so far. I don’ t think it will get topped until I get married or something life-changing like that,” Slater said. “These couple of days have, I don’t want to say difficult to process, but fun to process. It was an iconic night not only for me but TNA as a whole.”

Adding to the Brit breakout’s big moment was sharing it with the homecoming of AJ Styles. The legendary performer crossed the line from WWE for his first TNA appearance in more than 11 years. For Slater, a lifelong fan, it was surreal and a total surprise.

“I definitely did not know he was coming out. I think if I did know, I’d try to play it off a lot cooler. I would try to hold my own. My reaction was fully genuine,” Slater said. “ lost my mind like everyone else did, especially me as a TNA kid. AJ Styles is the one and only. He is the man, so to share in his return in a TNA ring was incredible. Again, it’s something I’ll never forget. AJ is a super cool guy.

“He took the time to talk to me a little bit after we came back. He was sharing wisdom not only on wrestling but life. I almost appreciate that a little more as a guy who has been in this game for 20 years, he has so much knowledge not only in the ring stuff but how to deal with all the successes and pitfalls of wrestling. He gave me some cool knowledge nuggets I can take and keep with me for the rest of  my time in the wrestling business.”

The emerging talent was welcomed by many in the locker room the moment he walked through the curtain. Slater had his family ringside and his wrestling family backstage. It’s a night the star won’t forget. A reminder that hard work can pay off. The grind never stops for the young pro wrestler, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. Coming to the United States brought unique challenges when it comes to travel. Not being old enough to rent a car for one.

“Everything is Uber or I have my family here and the guys in the locker room helping me out,” Slater said. “I think the hardest thing for someone coming from the UK to the US is getting a visa and making sure we’re doing it the legal way and right way. TNA has been a massive help in acquiring that. It really is the golden ticket because once you get that, you have the foot in the door and can spread your wings here. It really is a tribute  to the TNA team from the office to the boys and girls in the locker room making sure I’m all good with the travel.”

Venturing to places like the UBS Arena and New York has been an exciting part of the job. Slater has taken a liking to Waffle House, as well as trips to the big cities including Los Angeles. A place he only knew from things such as playing “Grand Theft Auto V,” which takes place in fictional Los Santos patterned after the City of Angels.

Slater credits the Hardy Boys for also helping ease his transition in TNA for much of the year. Matt and Jeff Hardy took him under their wing.

“I went from someone that was recognized a little bit and, yeah, he can have good matches to the X Division champion,” he said. “They helped me elevate up through the rankings. Probably more than that personally it has been a dream come true. Matt and Jeff are my 1a.and 1b.. Growing up I was a Hardy Boys kid. Whether it was WWE or TNA, I’d follow them wherever they went. It really feels like a dream come true. It feels like all these pieces that could slot into place are perfectly aligned themselves. Hardy Boys are a huge part of that.”

Amazing Red was also among those who gave their stamp of approval to the exciting performer. The TNA trailblazer had the X Division record at age 21 before Slater. Perhaps we see old school meet new school one day?

“Before I went out [for the match], I said, ‘Man, I hope I can make you proud. I hope I do your record justice,’” he recalled.  “When I came back, Red was one of those people to congratulate me and say well done. For me, that’s huge. Someone like Red who is an innovator and pioneer  of this style. To break that record and him being in the building and honor him, that way was  huge for me. I feel like the only natural step after that is to  have the match. We’ll see where that road goes, but I think it’s inevitable for sure.”

Slater can’t help raving about the TNA locker room. He gives a lot of credit these days to the company President Carlos Silva. Someone successful in business, but coming from the outside world. His fresh ideas have been a breath of fresh air.

“I think it’s super important to have a boss that feels like the boss, but a part of the locker room. He is super accessible. I think to think me and Carlos have a pretty good relationship. I think for morale he has been huge,” Slater said. “The all-stars we’ve been doing every loop have been giving something to look forward to, but also something to strive for. Everyone wants to be the all-star and get the little award. He has been huge for morale. It has been huge for me because as a talent you want to have a boss you not only like, but you want to go out there and show out for.

“I was more than happy to jump from 20 plus feet off the Ultimate X because I knew it would help TNA and knew he would do the same for us in a business sense. He is putting in the work behind the scenes, so I think it’s only fair for us to do the same for  him. This past year in TNA has been the proudest in my career. I can’t tell you how proud it is for me to wrestle for TNA. I don’t want to be anywhere else. I’ve been a TNA kid, and now I’m the TNA X Division Champion. It’s something I hold super close to my heart. I would do a lot for TNA. I wouldn’t say I would die for TNA, but I’d do a lot for TNA and Carlos Silva because he has been huge in this upswing we’re in at the moment.”

Coming off of Slammiversary, Slater was a welcome highlight for TNA. That’s because after the Pay-Per-View the promotion’s two top titles are currently held by WWE NXT names. An intriguing wrinkle in this collaboration.

“I think the partnership has almost all been positive. For us, we get to go to NXT and be on that platform with our brand and be on that kind of level of exposure, which is great for TNA,” Slater said. “The NXT people get to come to TNA and learn from the likes of Eric Young, Frankie Kazarian and Eddie Edwards and really get to hone their craft here. I say almost all positive because as we’ve seen at Slammiversary, both of our major titles are both with NXT talent right now. It’s not ideal, but I think it’ll put an extra hunger in this locker room than we already have. It’s hard to do but I think they’ve done it. I think they really sparked a fire within us in the locker room. I can see us doing everything to get those belts back where they belong.”

Despite the other disappointing results, Slater plans to celebrate this Thursday during the live Impact from Rhode Island. He looks to the future as the road to Bound for Glory begins. As for who he’d like to see stand opposite from him in the ring, one name stands out.

“I think after Sunday there is only one answer, and that answer is the ‘Phenomenal One’ AJ Styles. I think that the story of the first X Division Champion versus the youngest ever is huge,” Slater said. “Not  just for me but TNA. Saying that, we have so many talented people on our roster. There are KC Navarro, Jason Hutch, Myron Reed, Zachary Wentz, Trey Miguel and so many talented X Division wrestlers on our roster already that I’m not going to be disappointed whoever it is. But if I would to craft up a wild dream at Bound for Glory, it has got to be AJ.”

WWE’s ‘Happy Gilmore’ MJF Snub Reveals AEW Concerns, Says Former Superstar

0

Former WWE wrestler Bishop Dyer has suggested that WWE’s competitive concerns about All Elite Wrestling (AEW) were exposed through the company’s handling of promotional material for the upcoming film “Happy Gilmore 2.”

Speaking on the Busted Open Radio podcast, Dyer—formerly known as Baron Corbin during his WWE tenure—revealed that WWE specifically requested promotional footage for the Adam Sandler sequel that excluded AEW star Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) for broadcast on Monday Night Raw.

“WWE asked for a preview of the film without MJF in it to air on ‘Raw.’ That’s a real thing. If you want to tell somebody that you’re in their head, that’s a way to do it,” Dyer explained during the discussion.

The former WWE superstar interpreted this move as evidence contradicting WWE’s public stance regarding their rival promotion. “They want to act like they don’t read the internet and do all this stuff, but everything that is being done says differently,” he added.

This incident highlights the ongoing competitive dynamics between WWE and AEW, with Dyer suggesting that WWE’s actions demonstrate a level of concern about their competition that contradicts their public messaging. The request to edit out AEW talent from promotional content represents what some view as a form of counterprogramming strategy.

The revelation adds another layer to the ongoing wrestling industry narrative about the relationship between the two major promotions and their respective approaches to competition.

Our Lady Peace Re-Releases “Whatever” as Mental Health Awareness Initiative

Band breaks 23-year silence on song marred by association with disgraced WWE wrestler Chris Benoit

Canadian rock band Our Lady Peace has officially re-released their song “Whatever” in a new “Redux” version, marking the end of a more than two-decade boycott of the track due to its association with disgraced WWE wrestler Chris Benoit.

The song, which served as Benoit’s entrance theme from 2002 until his death in 2007, was effectively retired by the band following the wrestler’s murder-suicide that claimed the lives of his wife Nancy and young son Daniel in June 2007.

In a statement accompanying the re-release, Our Lady Peace explained their decision to reclaim the song after 23 years: “It’s been 23 years since the tragic events surrounding WWE wrestler Chris Benoit and the theme song we wrote for him. We feel that enough time has passed that it was necessary to re-record ‘Whatever’ to help shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health awareness.”

The band announced that all streaming revenue from “Whatever (Redux)” will be donated to suicide prevention initiatives across North America, transforming the song from a source of controversy into a vehicle for positive change.

Our Lady Peace recently performed the song live for the first time in over two decades during their 30th Anniversary Tour, where they expressed similar sentiments about their desire to “reclaim” their work from its troubled past.

The original track was recorded for WWE’s “Forceable Entry” compilation album in 2002 and became synonymous with Benoit throughout his WWE career. The band had previously stated in 2012 that they would never perform the song again due to its association with the tragedy.

The re-release represents a significant shift for the Toronto-based alternative rock band, who have sold several million albums worldwide and won four Juno Awards throughout their career. By repositioning “Whatever” as a mental health awareness tool, Our Lady Peace aims to transform a painful chapter of their catalog into something meaningful for those struggling with similar issues.

MJF Faces Fallout with Hurt Syndicate on AEW Dynamite

0

Bobby Lashley is sick of MJF’s presence in the Hurrt Syndicate, and made that painfully clear during the July 23, episode of AEW Dynamite. During the episode, it was revealed that Adam Copeland had enlisted the Hurt Syndicate to help him fend off FTR. The Rated-R Superstar is currently banned from getting physical with Dax Harwood or Cash Wheeler.

MJF, however, wasn’t on board with the move. He expressed frustration that it had taken him months to earn the Syndicate’s approval, and questioned whether forming a team with Cope was the right call.

Irate, Lashley erupted and made clear that he wants MJF out of the faction. Shelton Benjamin and MVP followed suit, leaving without saying a word to MJF.

Lashley—the last member to endorse MJF—is now the first to call for his removal from the Hurt Syndicate. Now, MJF will seemingly have to win the faction over once again, or risk being ousted from the group.

From Wrestling to Wine: Nikki Bella Talks WWE Life & Motherhood

0

WWE Nikki Bella has spent tenures in WWE both pre and post-motherhood, and has opened up about how being a parent changed her in the ring. On Cody Rhodes’ What Do You Wanna Talk About podcast, Nikki shared that while she previously sought fame, glory, and championship gold for herself, her focus now is solely on her four-year-old son Matteo.

“I definitely think that everything for sure gets motivated to provide for your child. I think things that you didn’t have in your childhood or your life, like you want to provide for them. It’s so weird to be focused on education, health, like all the things college fund, I do all that, I’m really big with all that.”

One way Nikki is providing for Matteo outside of the ring is as the producer of a range of wines alongside her sister. For Nikki, being able to produce a product she’s passionate about is matched only by the fun she has hosting tastings.

“Lots of wine coming from Brie and I. And then what I’ve really fallen in love with is hosting shows. Yeah, I really love hosting. So I’ve gotten to work with a lot of badass people in the industry.”

Whether she’s in the ring of the vineyard, everything Nikki Bella accomplishes in work today is to benefit her son. With her recent return to the ring, it remains to be seen if more gold is in store for the WWE Hall of Famer.

Mercedes Moné Shuts Down WWE Return Talk with Blunt Reply

0

AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné isn’t interested in a WWE return at this time, as made clear with a savage response on Instagram. When a fan commented on her Instagram told the CEO to return to WWE, Moné didn’t hold back in her response, stating “imma need your ugly ass to watch AEW.”

mercedes post

Moné made her AEW debut in March 2024 at the Big Business special in Boston and has been a force to be reckoned with ever since. In her first match as an AEW talent, Mone captured the AEW TBS Championship, a title she still holds to this day.

Moné walked out of WWE in May 2022 over creative frustrations alongside Naomi, who has since returned and is riding high on Raw. Since then, the CEO has carved a path on her own terms—and she’s clearly not entertaining the idea of looking back.

Mercedes Moné recently suffered her first singles loss in AEW to ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm at the All In: Texas pay-per-view. Despite this setback, Moné is making clear she’s in no hurry to return to WWE.

Latest On Saraya’s WWE Status, Potential Return

0

Saraya didn’t return to WWE at Evolution 2 as many fans had predicted, and now more has come to light about her status with WWE. According to a sources close to ViperReports from Bodyslam.net, WWE not had any recent discussions regarding hiring Saraya as an in-ring competitor. The report states that no internal discussions were held regarding a potential comeback, and she was never considered for an appearance at Evolution 2 in Atlanta.

On social media before the show, Saraya had been quiet, leading some to speculate that she was on a flight. Instead, Saraya was on a flight to Hawaii, though appreciated how eager fans are to see her back.

Though a return hasn’t been shy about the topic of returning to WWE. Before Evolution, Saraya said she was open to an appearance, and has said she hopes to return to WWE one day as Paige. Saraya’s contract with WWE was not renewed in 2022, and despite Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque’s attempts to get her back after a change in administration that June, she would join AEW that same year.

In WWE, Paige was the first-ever NXT Women’s Champion, as well as a two-time WWE Divas Champion who won over fans with her mold-breaking look and attitutde. Despite her history with the company and enduring popularity, WWE appears uninterested in revisiting that chapter for the time being.

The Undertaker Praises Trick Williams After WWE NXT Confrontation

0

The Undertaker made a rare appearance in Houston on Tuesday night, stepping into the WWE NXT ring to confront Trick Williams. Following the segment, Taker took to social media to reflect on the encounter with the reigning TNA World Champion.

During the segment, The Undertaker called out Williams’ attitude since winning the TNA Title as well as his stance on the Deadman’s WWE LFG class. Williams would fire back, arguing that the WWE Hall of Famer has never carried two brands in the way Trick does today.

The segment ended with Williams taking a chokeslam by The Undertaker, who was crowned the dominant coach of WWE LFG’s first season. While Trick is riding high as a top name in WWE NXT and TNA Wrestling, he now knows not to cross the Deadman.

Ted DiBiase Jr.’s Trial Delayed to 2026 Amid New Evidence

0

Ted DiBiase Jr. has secured a significant delay in his federal criminal trial—one that could meaningfully impact the trajectory of the case. Originally slated to begin this summer, DiBiase’s trial was postponed after his legal team filed a motion on July 2, citing late-arriving evidence. According to the defense, the U.S. government turned over “72 videos of MDHS ‘Law of 16’ trainings”—more than 47 hours of footage—just two months before trial.

They argue this footage shows that “Mr. DiBiase performed a substantial amount of work under the alleged ‘sham’ contracts” and should be considered “directly exculpatory evidence.” On July 8, the court granted the delay, moving the trial date to January 6, 2026.

DiBiase is facing a lengthy list of charges in connection to the Mississippi welfare fraud scandal. These include one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and theft, six counts of wire fraud, two counts of theft concerning federal programs, and four counts of money laundering. If convicted on all counts, DiBiase could face up to 45 years in prison and $1 million in fines.

Ted’s brother Brett has already pleaded guilty to conspiring to defraud the United States as part of a group of conspirators. Their father, Ted Sr., who is also named in the documents, has claimed that his family is being unfairly targeted due to their fame.

The prosecution argues that Ted Jr. received money for contracts for programs that he did not deliver on. Instead, they allege that the money he was supposed to use to help those in need was spent on personal items such as a house, a boat, and a vehicle, with no meaningful services delivered.

Will Ospreay Reveals He Has Two Herniated Discs, Gives Return Timetable

0

Will Ospreay made a surprise appearance on tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite to provide an update on his injury status. He revealed that he is suffering from two herniated discs in his neck but is hopeful he can return in time for next month’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view.

In an in-ring promo, Ospreay got right to the point, revealing that he was dealing with neck issues even before his match at All In: Texas. He confirmed that after the post-main event attack by the Death Riders, he was rushed to the emergency room, where he was diagnosed with two herniated discs going into his spinal cord.

Despite the serious nature of the injury, Ospreay provided some good news, stating that his doctors have told him the condition is treatable. He then told the live crowd that he is hopeful he will be medically cleared in time for the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door event on August 24, which takes place in his home country of England.

Forbidden Door is AEW’s annual crossover event with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, a promotion where Ospreay made a name for himself as one of the world’s top wrestlers and a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. AEW fans will now await further updates on his recovery ahead of the August 24th show.

MJF: “If You Have An Issue With Becky Lynch, I Have An Issue With You”

0

EW star MJF has inserted himself into a top WWE rivalry, taking to the airwaves to praise his Happy Gilmore 2 co-star Becky Lynch while launching a verbal tirade against her SummerSlam opponent, Lyra Valkyria.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, MJF made it clear where his loyalties lie in the ongoing feud for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship. He offered high praise for Lynch but had harsh words for her challenger.

“I’m a big fan of Becky Lynch. Hate that Lyra (Valkyria) girl. I agree with Becky. [Lyra] stinks,” MJF said. “If you have an issue with Becky Lynch, I have an issue with you. Not into this Lyra chick. Something is up with her. She’s probably a bad person.”

When asked if he interacted with Lynch on the set of the new Adam Sandler movie, Happy Gilmore 2, MJF claimed that the two are close. “Oh yeah. Me and Becky, we go way back. We are good friends,” he stated. Both MJF and Lynch are featured in the film, which premieres this Friday, July 25, on Netflix.

MJF’s comments come as the rivalry between Lynch and Valkyria continues to intensify. On this past week’s Raw, it was announced that their Women’s Intercontinental Championship match at SummerSlam will now be a No Disqualification, No Count Out match. Meanwhile, MJF is also on a path to championship gold in AEW, having won the Casino Gauntlet match at the All In pay-per-view to earn a guaranteed future shot at the AEW World Championship.

Undertaker’s NXT Comeback Spikes Viewership

0

The Undertaker’s appearance on NXT led to a significant increase in viewership, with the show attracting its largest audience in five months.

The live episode from Houston averaged 747,000 viewers, marking a 27 percent increase from the previous week.

It also saw a notable 55 percent rise in female viewership in the 18-49 demographic. Advertised throughout the week, The Undertaker participated in a segment with Trick Williams, which concluded with the TNA champion receiving a chokeslam.

Report: ROH TV Talks Led To Unexpected AEW Dynamite Deal Instead

0

A new report has shed light on the ongoing situation regarding a potential television deal for Ring of Honor. The report from Fightful Select reveals that past discussions for an ROH TV slot led to an unexpected deal for its sister promotion, AEW, instead.

According to sources close to Warner Bros. Discovery, discussions were held about finding a television slot for Ring of Honor programming. While the terms for a deal were not met, the talks led to a different agreement. The negotiations pivoted, and instead, a deal was struck for TruTV to begin airing weekly replays of AEW Dynamite on Friday nights.

The report notes that AEW President Tony Khan has a “specific goal and amount he thought such a deal was worth,” which has so far not been met by any potential suitors. While there has been interest from a number of networks over the last few years, a deal to bring ROH to traditional television has reportedly never been “particularly close.”

While a television deal remains elusive, Ring of Honor programming continues to air weekly on the Honor Club streaming service. The brand recently held its Supercard of Honor pay-per-view on July 11th, which was headlined by Bandido successfully defending the ROH World Championship against Konosuke Takeshita. The show also saw Athena retain her ROH Women’s World Championship against Thunder Rosa.

WWE’s Netflix Move Scores Big as Exec Says ‘Everything We Hoped for and More’

0

WWE’s strategic move of “Monday Night Raw” from USA Network to Netflix on January 6 has delivered championship-level results, with the show maintaining a dominant presence on the streaming platform’s global charts.

According to a new report from Joe Otterson and Variety, the flagship wrestling series has achieved an impressive 27-week streak in Netflix’s global Top 10, marking consistent viewership success since its platform debut. The show is currently averaging 6.3 million hours viewed per week and over 3 million views weekly, representing substantial growth from its previous performance on USA Network, where it averaged 1.65 million viewers weekly in fall 2024.

Netflix Very Happy with WWE Viewership

Netflix executives have expressed satisfaction with the partnership’s performance.

“It’s everything we could have hoped for and more,” said Gabe Spitzer, Netflix’s vice president of sports. “We knew going in that we’re not going to change WWE. It was more, how can we add to it in small ways, and that’s what we’ve seen so far.”

The streaming success extends beyond just the United States, with “Raw” making the Top 10 list in Canada for 26 weeks, the U.K. for 23 weeks, and Mexico for 22 weeks, demonstrating the global appeal of WWE content.

Spitzer highlighted the strategic value of combining WWE’s content with Netflix’s distribution reach.

“[WWE’s] distribution has been pretty fragmented up to this point, and the hope was ‘Let’s combine the power of what you guys do with the power of what we do with our global distribution, and get our marketing teams together … and try to lift this,” he explained.

The success has been bolstered by compelling storylines, including John Cena’s retirement tour, Jey Uso’s World Heavyweight Championship run, and championship victories by Dominik “Dirty Dom” Mysterio and Lyra Valkyria.

WWE’s premium live events have also found success on the platform internationally. Major events like “Money in the Bank” and the “Elimination Chamber” have reached the Top 10 in 37 countries, with particular popularity in Bolivia, Canada, the U.K., Egypt, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia.

Looking ahead, there’s speculation that Netflix could expand its WWE offerings domestically when the company’s deal with Peacock expires in March 2026, potentially bringing premium live events to the streaming platform in the United States.

“We want things that are going to create global conversation. And I think with WWE, we already know they have that,” Spitzer noted, suggesting Netflix’s continued interest in high-profile sports and entertainment content.

Chris Sabin Reflects On One-Year Anniversary of WWE Arrival

0

For years, fans wondered if the Motor City Machine Guns would land in WWE, until Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin arrived in 2024. Taking to X, Sabin reflected on the one-year anniversary of officially becoming a WWE Superstar.

Sabin and Shelley made an immediate impact upon their arrival in WWE. In just their third match under contract, the pair captured the WWE Tag Team Championships, dethroning the Bloodline on SmackDown.

Before WWE, Sabin and Shelley succeeded in TNA Wrestling and other promotions, both as a tag team and as individual wrestlers. Though the pair don’t hold gold at this time, it may be just a matter of time before the Guns are known as champions in WWE once more.

Nikki Bella Defends Divas Era: ‘We Were Empowered!’

0

Nikki Bella is proud to be known as a WWE Diva, even if the promotion has distanced itself from such terminology. While many see the ‘Divas Era’ as a dark chapter in women’s wrestling, Nikki shared her take during the What Do You Wanna Talk About podcast:

“Not only are we intelligent, but we get to have a beauty that men don’t have, and we could use that as power. And that’s what I always looked at as the Divas, is they had it all. They had empowerment, they had inspiration, there was motivation, and then they had beauty, and they used that as their strength.”

Today, WWE’s focus on its female talent is less on being sexy and more on what they can do in the ring. Nevertheless, some of WWE’s women today found their inspiration watching Nikki, her sister, and other WWE Divas.

“A lot of the girls were like, especially NXT girls were talking to me today, and I was telling them about connection and all that.”

Nikki, the longest-reigning WWE Divas Champion in history, recently returned to WWE, and is proving to be ‘Fearless’ against a new generation of talent. While the days of being labelled a diva are well and truly over, Nikki won’t shy away from her ‘Divalicious’ identity.

0

Speaking with Metro to promote the game, Heyman praised the decision to include New Jack, arguing that his influence extends far beyond the wrestling ring and into video game culture itself.

“This is a moment of completion in the entire video game industry,” Heyman said. “You cannot deny New Jack’s influence in sports entertainment/pro wrestling culture, nor should you deny his influence on video games… are you telling me that those who make Grand Theft Auto weren’t influenced by New Jack? How Bryan Danielson’s Wrestling Pain Shaped His Philosophy

0

Bryan Danielson has discovered a profound life philosophy through his years in the ring – one that challenges conventional wisdom about avoiding pain and discomfort. Speaking to The Sun Sport, Danielson explained how wrestling has taught him to embrace what many shy away from.

“I think one of the beautiful things about wrestling is that it’s unlike anything else when you’re out there actually wrestling and it hurts. We spend so much of our lives trying to avoid discomfort.”

This revelation came through hard-earned experience. Danielson admitted that his previous approach to life’s challenges was counterproductive. “I found that trying to avoid discomfort has led to many of the mistakes in my life,” he shared, reflecting on a decade-long journey of personal growth.

The transformation in his mindset became a cornerstone of both his wrestling and personal philosophy. Once he embraced this philosophy, managing both his professional and personal lives became so much simpler.

“I’ve really worked in the last 10 years not to try to avoid discomfort,” Danielson revealed. “Even when I’m wrestling, leaning into this discomfort and acknowledging what it is, and then you have the ability to move through it and make better decisions.”

Danielson’s philosophy was tested in dramatic fashion during his 2023 Forbidden Door match against Kazuchika Okada, when he suffered a broken arm with 10 minutes left in the bout. When the referee asked if he wanted to continue, his answer was immediate: “Yeah.”

This approach extends far beyond the wrestling ring. For Danielson, confronting uncomfortable situations head-on has led to improved decision-making and meaningful personal growth—lessons that continue to guide him as both a performer and individual.

Bryan Danielson Reflects on Painful, Emotional AEW WrestleDream Finale

0

Bryan Danielson expressed concerns about wrestling his final AEW match due to severe neck issues. During an interview with Sun Sport News, he shared the emotional experience of his last match against Jon Moxley in Tacoma, where his career began as a spectator.

“That was a match that I really enjoyed. I think the last match that I had—which was in AEW against Jon Moxley in Tacoma, Washington—was incredibly special, because that’s the building where I saw my first-ever wrestling match. The main event that night was The Ultimate Warrior versus Rick Rude.”

The match was attended by his family and friends, providing a heartfelt farewell. Despite the immense pain, Danielson found gratitude and relief in concluding his wrestling chapter. At the time of WrestleDream, Danielson was ready to walk away from the ring for good.

“I was ready to be done. At that point, my neck had been really bad for six-plus months, causing me tremendous pain. I wasn’t sure I could do what I was being asked to do in the match.”

Danielson’s health issues were no secret heading into the Moxley match. While fans were well aware that Bryan’s time in the ring was winding up, only a select few were aware that Bryan believed he was done.

“My mom was in the front row. We knew it was going to be my last match. And as I’m getting choked unconscious, I see my mom in the front row and just mouth to her, ‘I love you.’ This whole career that I’ve had—it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my family. And the fact that my mom got to be there for that moment is really, really cool.”

Bryan Danielson has dedicated much of his life to pro wrestling. While some would believe that this end was a sad moment for him, the former AEW World Champion made clear this isn’t the case.

“The emotion of knowing, ‘Okay, this is the end of this chapter of my life’—and not feeling sad about it, but happy. Happy that I got to experience all of it, and honestly, almost relieved that it was over… because I was in so much pain.”

Though he returned at AEW All In: Texas, he clarified it wasn’t as a full-time wrestler, leaving his future in the ring uncertain. For now, fans remain on the edge of their seats at what’s to come for Danielson.
