AEW Dark: Elevation Spoilers For 6/6 & AEW Dynamite Notes

0

The June 6th episode of AEW Dark: Elevation was taped on June 1st.

The taping took place before AEW Dynamite at The Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.

It’s possible that more matches will be filmed before Rampage on Friday.

AEW Dark: Elevation Spoilers For 6/6

  • Frankie Kazarian def. Serpentico
  • Nyla Rose & Serena Deeb def. Skye Blue & Miyu Yamashita
  • Death Triangle (PAC, Rey Fenix & Penta Oscuro) def. The Wingmen (Peter Avalon, Ryan Nemeth, & Cezar Bononi)

AEW Dark: Elevation streams at 7 p.m. ET on Monday on the AEW YouTube channel.

Notes From 6/1 AEW Dynamite

Matt Compton of PWInsider shared a few notes from last night’s AEW Dynamite that only fans in attendance were privy to.

  • There did not seem to be any areas tarped off, besides perhaps the area behind the stage.  There was no large screen above the ramp.  They did have 3 or 4 large screens hung from the rafters/scaffolding around the building.
  • What got bleeped from MJF’s promo was him calling Tony Khan a f*cking mark.  Also, when CM Punk came down to the ring during the commercial, he was only wearing one boot.
  • Also, when Eddie Kingston ran down to attack Chris Jericho, he almost tripped over, I believe, a camera cable (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/w31JAicGwA8).

AJ Lee Names Surprising Pick as the Best Wrestler in AEW

0

Former WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee has made her pick for the best wrestler in AEW, and it’s not her husband CM Punk.

Lee is no stranger to the ring, having worked for WWE between 2009-2015 and signed on as an executive producer for WOW – Women of Wrestling in October 2021.

On this week’s ‘The Sessions,’ the retired wrestler praised Serena Deeb as the best name working for Tony Khan.

“I’ve been watching some AEW. I’ve got to say, I love so many people on the roster. I think the best wrestler they have is Serena Deeb.”

AJ Lee.

Carrying on, Lee said how Deeb, who was once part of Punk’s ‘Straight Edge Society’ stable in WWE, was a huge influence on her career.

“I was in FCW and I was the first indie female they had signed in like a decade or something. It was this huge deal. I only had two years of experience. When she came in, it was like I was drowning and this wonderful person came in to save me. She was an indie wrestler that had a lot of experience. She was so good and she taught me so much in a very short period of time.”

Deeb unsuccessfully challenged for the AEW Women’s World Championship against Thunder Rosa at last weekend’s Double or Nothing event.

Her most recent match saw her and Nyla Rose beat Skye Blue and Miyu Yamashita during this week’s AEW: Dark Elevation taping.

Rumor Killer on AEW X NJPW Title Match

UPDATE: Dave Meltzer has retracted his claim that Kazuchika Okada vs. Hangman Page is being planned for Forbidden Door

ORIGINAL:

A big-time championship match for the AEW-NJPW crossover show may have been revealed.

Forbidden Door will be taking place on June 26. The special PPV event will see the biggest stars from AEW and NJPW collide. The action will be held inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

AEW has already teased Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan of NJPW faction United Empire having a presence at Forbidden Door. The two interrupted an ROH Tag Team Title match between champions FTR and Roppongi Vice.

On the June 1 edition of Dynamite, the seeds were planted for an AEW World Title match between champion CM Punk and NJPW legend Hiroshi Tanahashi.

One major title match that hasn’t been hinted at on AEW TV may have been leaked.

Kazuchika Okada vs. Hangman Page?

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio has reported that an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match between titleholder Kazuchika Okada and Hangman Page is internally listed for Forbidden Door.

The other match listed was indeed CM Punk vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi for the AEW World Championship.

There is a bit of history between Okada and Hangman. The two competed in NJPW’s G1 Climax back in 2018. Okada picked up the win.

WWE Raw Superstar Backstage at AEW Dynamite

A current member of the WWE Raw roster was backstage for the June 1 episode of AEW Dynamite.

The show was held inside The Kia Forum in Inglewood, CA. This episode of Dynamite very much had a “Raw after WrestleMania” feel to it. This was the post-Double or Nothing edition of Dynamite.

Fans witnessed a scathing shoot-style promo from MJF. He called AEW President Tony Khan a “f*cking mark” and demanded to be fired.

Adding another element of realism, CM Punk tried confronting MJF during commercial break but Max left through the crowd.

Who Was Backstage For AEW Dynamite?

Fightful is reporting that WWE Raw superstar Dolph Ziggler was backstage for AEW Dynamite. It’s been said that he was very well-liked by the end of the night.

CJ Perry, the former Lana, was also backstage. She is the wife of Miro, who made his return from injury.

Ziggler’s younger brother, Ryan Nemeth, is on the AEW roster.

Dolph had some fun with his brother after Ryan scored his first piece of AEW merchandise back in May.

Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston Address Crowd After June 1 AEW Dynamite Goes Off The Air

Once the June 1 episode of AEW Dynamite went off the air, Jon Moxley had something to say and his hype man was Eddie Kingston.

The main event of the show saw Moxley of Blackpool Combat Club take on Daniel Garcia of the Jericho Appreciation Society. Chris Jericho attempted to distract Moxley but Kingston ran out to thwart him.

Moxley ended up choking out Garcia for the win. He then took the mic and said he’s down with Kingston’s idea of a Blood & Guts match against the JAS.

After The Show

Stephanie Chase & Garrett Martin were in attendance for the June 1 episode of AEW Dynamite and posted Jon Moxley’s message to the fans once the cameras stopped rolling.

What Happened With MJF & CM Punk When Dynamite Went to Commercial

MJF and CM Punk had a brief interaction following Max’s scathing promo.

During the June 1 episode of AEW Dynamite, MJF was given a live mic and cut a promo fans won’t soon forget. This was very much shoot-style mic work from MJF, playing off of real-life events.

MJF has been the talk of the wrestling world since no-showing a meet and greet one day before Double or Nothing. His status for the DoN PPV event was a big question mark but he ultimately did the job for Wardlow.

CM Punk Attempts To Confront MJF

MJF’s promo included a diss aimed at Tony Khan for not upping his pay but opening up the checkbook for former WWE stars.

At the end of his promo, MJF called Tony a “f*cking mark” and demanded that he be fired.

This led to CM Punk limping down the ramp and trying to talk to Max. MJF would have none of it and left through the crowd.

Miro Makes His Grand Return At Tonight’s AEW Dynamite

0

AEW President Tony Khan had announced earlier in the day that Johnny Elite would be competing on this evening’s Dynamite from Los Angeles, as Elite had signed an open challenge to face a mystery opponent.

That opponent ended up being former TNT champion Miro, who had been out of action since last fall with an injury. The Redeemer cut an epic promo promising his God that he was going to take back everything that was taken from him, and warning everyone who got in his path.

Miro’s wife, former WWE star CJ Perry (Lana) had tweeted out earlier in the day that she was going to keep a close eye on tonight’s Dynamite, a not-so-subtle hint that made many speculate that Miro would return.

As for Elite…he put up a good effort against Miro, but was eventually defeated when the Redeemer locked in his Game Over submission finisher. This was Miro’s first matchup since his loss to Bryan Danielson at Full Gear 2021, which was the final round of the World Title eliminator tournament.

Highlights can be seen below.

MJF Cuts Brutal Promo on AEW Dynamite, Slams Tony Khan

MJF went scorched earth on AEW President Tony Khan.

We have a new pipebomb that won’t soon be forgotten. MJF made his way out for the June 1 episode of Dynamite and things got ugly in a hurry.

Maxwell started things off by discussing how banged up he is but he said all the fans wanted is for him to talk.

He said the fans weren’t there for him when they called him “unprofessional” for no-showing a meet and greet one day before AEW Double or Nothing.

Max also bashed fans for once claiming he couldn’t wrestle. He questioned why that was the case, mentioning that he works a safer style, doesn’t get dropped on his head, and doesn’t watch NJPW.

He then talked about being disrespected by the AEW brass for not paying him more despite being key to the company’s success in viewership.

MJF claimed Tony Khan doesn’t want to pay him because he’s too busy paying former WWE stars.

When a production member told him to wrap things up, MJF called him a “piece of sh*t.” He then demanded that Tony fire him and called him a “f*cking mark.”

MJF’s mic was then cut off and the camera faded to black before a commercial break.

Here’s a look at what happened after AEW Dynamite went to commercial break:

Hiroshi Tanahashi Appears on AEW Dynamite, Answers CM Punk’s Challenge

Japanese wrestling legend and NJPW Ace Hiroshi Tanahashi made his way to an AEW arena.

On the June 1 episode of AEW Dynamite, CM Punk and FTR defeated Max Caster and The Gunn Club. After the match, Punk called out an NJPW star who will step up to the plate to face him at Forbidden Door on June 26.

Tanahashi made his way out and made a motion signaling he’s going after CM Punk’s AEW World Championship.

AEW Dynamite Results (6/1/22): MJF Demands To Be Fired, Miro Returns, Double Or Nothing Fallout

0

AEW Dynamite airs live tonight from the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. It was the first episode of Dynamite following Double or Nothing this past Sunday night. MJF delivered an incredible promo tonight and called out AEW president Tony Khan. New AEW Champion CM Punk teamed up with ROH Tag Team Champions FTR in a Trios match. Miro made his return and answered Johnny Elite’s Open Challenge.

Dynamite Results (6/1)

  • CM Punk & FTR def. Max Caster & Gunn Club
  • Miro def. Johnny Elite via submission
  • Young Bucks, ReDragon, Hikuleo def. Jurassic Express, Christian Cage, Matt Hardy, Darby Allin
  • Wardlow def. JD Drake
  • Ruby Soho & Toni Storm def. Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter
  • Jon Moxley def. Daniel Garcia

Here are the takeaways from this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite:

CM Punk vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi Set For Forbidden Door

AEW World Champion CM Punk kicked off the show to a great reaction from the crowd in the sold-out Kia Forum. Punk did a crowd dive off the entrance ramp and posed with the title until FTR joined him on the entrance ramp. Punk and FTR then battled Max Caster and Gunn Club in a Trios match.

FTR isolated Austin Gunn to start off the action but Austin eventually battled back. Colten Gunn tagged in and beat Cash Wheeler down in the corner. Wheeler planted Colten with a Back Body Drop and applied a headlock. Punk tagged in and hit a double axehandle off the top rope on Caster.

Punk delivered some forearms to Max’s face but Caster shrugged it off and stomped the AEW Champion down in the corner. Punk connected with a Crossbody off the top rope and tagged in Wheeler. Punk and Dax lifted Caster up and Wheeler hit a Powerslam off the middle turnbuckle for a two count.

Dax Harwood and Austin Gunn tagged in and traded punches. Austin threw Dax to the corner and stomped him down to the mat. Gunn Club took turns beating Dax down and Austin hit a Neckbreaker for a two count as Punk fired up the crowd. Caster tagged back in and launched Harwood into the turnbuckle. Billy Gunn got in a cheap shot as referee Aubrey Edwards was distracted.

Harwood cleared the ring but couldn’t make a tag because Gunn Club knocked Punk and Wheeler off the apron. Gunn Club hit a slam on Harwood for a near fall as Dynamite went to a commercial break. When Dynamite returned, Punk botched a flying Clothesline and then hit a Dropkick. Punk that almost botched a Powerbomb but barely got Austin there and he fell onto Billy Gunn. FTR hit the Big Rig for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Punk said he knows he has to get better and you can call him what you want, but you have to call him the champ. CM Punk issued a challenge for Forbidden Door and Hiroshi Tanahashi answered the call to a big pop from the crowd. Punk raised the title and had a stare down to close the segment.

MJF Demanded To Be Fired

MJF angrily marched to the ring and asked for the music to be turned off. MJF said he is in a lot of pain after what happened on Sunday but all the fans want to hear is him talk. Maxwell took off the scarf, said there is a big merger going on Tony Khan, it would be a real shame if something bad happened.

Maxwell shouted that Tony Khan has been trying to settle things but it is too little too late. MJF shouted that he has created moment after moment for this company and he still gets no respect. Maxwell added that everything he touches turns to gold and there is nobody on his level. Friedman claimed that he expected to hit grand slams every week and he does this shit on a weekly basis.

MJF added that he is the only guy capable of carrying AEW on his back as he has for months. Maxwell noted that he also hears clapping, and that the boys in the back can have his spot because he doesn’t want to be here anymore. MJF called the fans marks and shouted that they don’t know shit. Max added that the crowd opinions suck, they change at the drop of a dime.

Maxwell joked that he doesn’t pretend to watch New Japan, doesn’t drop his opponents on his head like others in the back. MJF shouted that he’s the best in the world because he makes everyone feel and doesn’t have to do a bunch of shit to get the fans there. Maxwell shouted that he’s a generational talent, but don’t ask Tony to reach in his pocket unless its an ex-WWE guy that can’t lace his god damn boots. MJF got a big pop and wondered if Tony Khan would treat him better if he was an ex-WWE guy. Maxwell dared Tony Khan to fire him and started cursing into the microphone until it was cut off.

Miro Returned & Tapped Out Johnny Elite

Johnny Elite issued an Open Challenge to anyone on the roster and Miro made his return. Miro dominated the action and stomped Johnny Elite down to the canvas. Miro followed it up with a Suplex as Dynamite went to a commercial break.

Johnny hit a boot to the side of the head and followed it up with a Shooting Star Press. Elite climbed to the top rope and went for a flip but Miro dodged it. Miro hit the Machka Kick and locked in Game Over for the submission victory

Hair vs. Hair Match Set, Samoa Joe Attacked

JAS made their way to the ring and bragged about winning Anarchy in the Arena. JAS asked the “AEW Galaxy” to “appreciate us”. Jericho brought up Eddie Kingston pouring gasoline on him at Double or Nothing and wondered “what kind of a man burns another man?”. Jericho and Hager bragged about choking out Danielson and that he’s not here tonight.

Chris said that Daniel Garcia is going to defeat Jon Moxley in tonight’s main event. Eddie Kingston interrupted with William Regal. They said they wanted Blood & Guts and Kingston rushed the ring alone. JAS obviously beat him down but Ortiz clocked Jericho with the madball. Ortiz then cut off some of Jericho’s hair and Chris then wanted a Hair vs. Hair match. Jericho added that he will shave and then burn Ortiz because he is a wizard.

Young Bucks, ReDRagon, Hikuleo Picked Up A Win

Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson), Hikuleo, Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly battled AEW Tag Team Champions Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus), Christian Cage, Darby Allin, Matt Hardy in a 10-man tag team match tonight on Dynamite. Owen Hart Tournament winner Adam Cole joined commentary for the match. He was originally advertised to be in the match but is out with an injury. Jeff Hardy missed the match with an injury as well but accompanied Matt Hardy to the ring.

Christian Cage shoved Matt Jackson to the corner and unloaded some punches to his face. Cage followed it up with a Tornado DDT and went for the cover but Matt kicked out at two. Christian climbed to the top rope as Jungle Boy sent Bobby Fish to the floor with a Hurricanrana. Everyone hit a bunch of dives until Young Bucks were left standing and posed for the crowd as Dynamite went to a commercial break.

When Dynamite returned, Darby Allin hit O’Reilly with a Splash and followed it up with a Stunner. Darby pulled down the top rope and Hikuleo went over it and crashed (almost on his head) to the floor. Matt Hardy bounced Kyle’s face-off of every turnbuckle and did the same to Bobby Fish. O’Reilly leveled Darby with a knee strike outside the ring. Young Bucks hit Luchasaurus with Superkicks and then did the same to Jungle Boy. Young Bucks hit Jungle Boy with the Meltzer Driver for the pinfall victory.

Jade Cargill Interrupted Athena

Tony Schiavone interviewed Athena tonight on Dynamite. Athena made her debut at Double or Nothing along with Stokely Hathaway during the TBS Championship match. Jade Cargill and The Baddies attacked Anna Jay after the match and Athena made the save. Athena said she’s excited to be All Elite but was quickly cutoff.

TBS Champion Jade Cargill, The Baddies, and Stokely Hathaway interrupted. Stokely said Cargill is a queen, a goddess, and our TBS Champion. Kiera Hogan and Athena then traded some words and Anna Jay joined the party. Kris Statlander as well and Stokely asked for security. The teams argued until security broke it up to end the promo.

Wardlow Dominated

Wardlow got a great reaction as he made his way to the ring. Wardlow demolished MJF with 10 Powerbombs at Double or Nothing and officially became a member of the AEW roster with the victory. Wardlow made quick work of JD Drake tonight and hit the Powerbomb Symphony for the dominant win. Tony Schiavone interviewed Wardlow after the match but Mark Sterling interrupted with a bunch of security guards. Sterling represented the “American Arena Security Professionals” and said he will see Wardlow in court. Wardlow hit a security guard with a Powerbomb and shoved the legal document in his mouth.

Jon Moxley squared off against Daniel Garcia in the main event of this week’s Dynamite. Moxley and Garcia locked up to start off the match. Moxley took Garcia down and delivered a boot to the back as William Regal & Chris Jericho argued on commentary. Moxley went for the Paradigm Shift but Garcia broke it up. The action spilled out of the ring and a busted open Moxley was sent flying into the steel steps. Garcia trapped Moxley’s leg in the steps and delivered a Dropkick as Dynamite went to a final commercial break of the night.

Jamie Hayter Would Join Blackpool Combat Club If She Wasn’t With Britt Baker

0

Since debuting on the first episode of AEW Rampage, Jaime Hayter has always been in the corner of Dr. Britt Baker.

Hayter helped Britt retain the AEW Women’s Championship multiple times when she held the title. Hayter also helped Britt progress in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

Hayter On The Possibility Of Joining The Blackpool Combat Club

Hayter recently spoke with WhatCulture about her interest in joining the Blackpool Combat Club.

Hayter said, “Yes, absolutely. I would love to be. If I wasn’t with Britt, I would be gunning to go to the BCC. It’s just because they kick ass. That’s my shit. They do the stuff I love doing. I’m a bit rough around the edges and things like that, like a usual British person is. I would love to be under their wing and learn from them and be more of a lethal weapon. I’ll be the new Steve Blackman [laughs].”

The Blackpool Combat Club is currently being led by William Regal. Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, and Wheeler Yuta are members of the group as well.

Jamie On Learning From William Regal & Other Legends

Hayter also spoke about learning from minds like Regal backstage at AEW.

“It’s fantastic. Especially being here, all we want to do is learn. Everybody just wants to get better and put out a really good product for TV, which we do, but personally, if I want to improve, you want to pick these people’s brains like a Regal, Arn Anderson, Dean Malenko, Jerry Lynn, all these amazing performers and people who have been in the business for such a long time. You can just go up to them and talk. It’s crazy.

I never thought I could go up to Regal and be like, ‘I’d like to pick your brain about something. What do you think about this?’ It’s great and very handy. In the short time of being here, I have learned a lot and made the most of the fact that there are so many incredible people there,” Hayter responded.

Hayter is scheduled to compete in a tag team match on the 6/1 AEW Dynamite. She will team with Dr. Britt Baker to take on Toni Storm & Ruby Soho.

Xavier Woods Shows off New Video Game Inspired Tattoo

0

WWE Superstar Xavier Woods has taken his love of video games to the next level, getting some ink based on two of his favorite franchises.

On Twitter, Woods showed off the new arm tattoo which incorporates both Final Fantasy and Megaman.

The ink in question sees the Buster Sword, used by Cloud the protagonist of Final Fantasy VII, considered by many to be the best game in the series.

On top of the sword is the helmet of Megaman from the game franchise of the same name.

In the tweet, Woods added that the artwork had been done by InkbyPnut, and shared a timelapse video of his tattoo session.

Woods is an avid gaming fanatic, with his UpUpDownDown Youtube Channel now boasting over 2.2 million subscribers.

In November 2021, the channel became inactive after the creators went on strike in solidarity with Woods.

It was believed that WWE was taking advantage of Woods’ time and efforts and wanted him to have a better deal.

In April 2022, WWE officials held a meeting about compensating Woods for his work, and the channel returned in full last month.

Despite being a regular on G4’s Attack of the Show though, he won’t be featured on an upcoming episode with AEW stars.

Adam Cole, Nyla Rose, and Danhausen will all be appearing on the show this week which Woods will not be on.

WWE SmackDown Superstar Teases Going Back to Old Gimmick

A member of the WWE SmackDown roster has dropped a big hint that she could be going back to her old gimmick.

For weeks, many fans have called into question WWE’s handling of Xia Li. When she was brought up to the main roster, she had been presented as a protector to those who had been wronged by then-authority figure Sonya Deville.

Li was quickly pulled from WWE TV and upon her return, she turned heel. In video packages, Li said she used to be a protector but now she’s only looking after herself.

Xia Li Bringing Back NXT Gimmick?

Xia Li took to her Twitter account to post a hype video of herself. Near the end of the video, a woman is seen with facepaint resembling Li’s Tian Sha gimmick from NXT.

Tian Sha was a faction on the NXT brand. The group featured Xia Li, Mei Ying, and Boa.

Mei Ying is now “Wendy Choo,” while Boa is on his own as a singles competitor.

WWE Announces ‘John Cena Month’ to Celebrate 20th Anniversary of his Debut

0

WWE is celebrating the legendary career of John Cena in a major way by having the entire month of June dedicated to the 16-time World Champion.

On WWE.com, the company praised Cena as someone who “forever changed” the promotion upon his debut on the June 27, 2002, SmackDown.

Cena debuted by answering Kurt Angle’s open challenge, boldly declaring that he had “ruthless aggression.”

Tony Khan Credits MJF For Big Part Of AEW’s Success, Won’t Comment On His Contract

0

The situation between MJF and AEW President Tony Khan has been a hot topic for months that escalated this past weekend for Double Or Nothing after MJF missed the fan fest on Saturday.

As scheduled, MJF showed up to Double or Nothing where he lost in a quick match to Wardlow. He later told Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp that he had a lot to think about after the match as his AEW deal runs through January 1, 2024 and is expected to have a bidding war for his services between AEW and WWE.

Khan spoke to Andreas Hale on The Corner podcast on Friday night where he was asked about MJF’s situation. However, he won’t comment on MJF’s contract details.

“I can’t…he’s been a big part of the company from day one, but I can’t really speculate on what he’s been saying about stuff that is unrelated to his match with Wardlow. It’s not related to what we’re talking about on television.”

MJF has stated that he will go where the money goes and will listen to an offer from WWE when he’s free and clear to do so. Khan was asked if he was surprised by MJF’s comments regarding his contract.

“No, I’m not surprised, for a variety of reasons. Coming out of this weekend, as of now and everything he’s done in AEW, he’s been a huge part of the success of the company and he’s signed here for a long time. It’s 2022, and 2024 is a long way away.”

MJF was spotted at LAX on Tuesday and is reportedly having a meeting with Khan this week. It’s likely that meeting is happening at Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Xavier Woods Won’t Be Appearing on G4 Show Featuring AEW Stars

Xavier Woods is a regular on G4’s Attack of the Show but he won’t be featured on the upcoming episode with AEW stars.

Adam Cole, Nyla Rose, and Danhausen are scheduled to appear on the show this week. They will not be joined by Woods, a WWE SmackDown superstar.

Woods took to his Twitter account to joke with the G4 crew not to get too out of hand while he’s gone.

The appearance of AEW stars on Attack of the Show this week shouldn’t come as a surprise. The show is shot in Glendale, California and AEW Dynamite will be taking place in Los Angeles tonight (June 1).

It’s likely that Adam Cole will continue his “feud” with Jirard “The Completionist” Khalil, a popular video game YouTuber and Twitch streamer. Cole called Jirard out for a face-to-face meeting at this week’s Dynamite event.

Cole was initially scheduled to compete in a tag team match on Dynamite this week. He ended up being pulled from the match and Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live reported that Cole will be given some time off from in-ring action due to a shoulder injury.

As for Woods, he headlined the May 27 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. He teamed with Drew McIntyre and Kofi Kingston to defeat The Brawling Brutes.

Brett Lauderdale on The WRLD on GCW PPV Buys, Hammerstein Return

Brett Lauderdale of Game Changer Wrestling was our guest on the latest episode of Business of the Business podcast, the official business podcast of SEScoops.

During the hour-long conversation with hosts John Poz and Lavie Margolin, Lauderdale spoke about a wide range of topics including last year’s The WRLD on GCW pay-per-view from the the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC, as well as a possible return to thee venue.

Here are some highlights of what Lauderdale said about:

The WRLD on GCW PPV Buys

The WRLD on GCW

January’s The WLRD on GCW event from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City was a special milestone for the company. Lauderdale has already said this was the biggest PPV in GCW history, but we now have a better idea of just how big it was.

Lauderdale says The WRLD on GCW crushed the company’s previous records.

“It was about, well, I don’t want to say average, but let me put to you like this.. it was about 5x higher than our previous high, we’ll put it like that.”

– Brett Lauderdale on The WRLD on GCW PPV Buys

Lauderdale says the company’s previous best-selling shows include Cardona-Gage, Moxley-Gage (“both way up there”) and Spring Break 3 (2019).

Return to Hammerstein

As for a return to the Hammerstein Ballroom, Lauderdale says there’s a good chance it happens. When asked when we could see another GCW Hammerstein show, he replied, “January, maybe.”

He says GCW wants it, Hammerstein wants them back and he’d love for it to become an annual special event. He doesn’t want to run the Hammerstein unless they can go ‘all out’ and do it big, but they’re hoping for a return.

Jeff Hardy Opens Up on Declining WWE HOF Induction

0

Jeff Hardy has opened up on turning the WWE Hall Of Fame down.

Hardy was recently a guest on fellow All Elite Wrestling (AEW) star Chris Jericho’s podcast, “Talk Is Jericho,” to discuss a plethora of professional wrestling topics.

One of those topics being Hardy turning down the WWE Hall of Fame.

The former WWE Champion explained that he doesn’t want to go into the Hall of Fame without his brother, Matt Hardy.

“Well, first of all, I don’t want to go in there without my brother and it’s not my time. This is too early. This is crazy. So yeah, it was very emotional.

“I was like, ‘What are they trying to do because naturally, I’m going to be reunited with my brother in AEW when I’m free of WWE.’

“I told my wife what had happened. I said, ‘I can’t believe what they just offered me.’ So it was very emotional, but I happily declined it.”

Jeff and Matt Hardy broke into the business together in 1998 when they were signed by WWE. They quickly emerged as fan favorites in the tag team division with their wild and unpredictable styles inside the ring.

Together, The Hardys have won nine Tag Team Titles under the WWE banner. They’re undoubtedly considered one of the greatest tag teams in professional wrestling history.

However, Jeff Hardy himself was able to accomplish quite a bit as a singles competitor as well. Under the WWE banner, Jeff captured three World Titles, five Intercontinental Titles, and a United States Title win as well.

Now, he’s signed with AEW, back alongside his brother Matt, and could potentially add even more accolades to their legacies with the young promotion.

Kurt Angle Recalls Trying to ‘Blow Up’ John Cena During WWE Debut

0

Kurt Angle admits he tried to get John Cena to blow up during his WWE debut in 2002.

Cena debuted on a June 27 episode of SmackDown, answering an open challenge from Angle at the time. Just days before the episode, Vince McMahon said on RAW that he wanted to see “ruthless aggression.”

When Angle asked what Cena possesses that makes him think he can get into the ring with an Olympic Gold Medalist, Cena answered by saying “ruthless aggression,” and smacking Angle before starting their match.

Angle ultimately wound up winning the match, but Cena certainly put up a great fight, impressing many in his debut.

Recently, Angle reflected on the moment during an episode of his podcast, “The Kurt Angle Show.”

Prior to their matchup, after finding out they’d be working together that night, Angle said Cena was very respectful towards him. He then noted he wanted to give him the “Angle test” inside the ring.

Angle admitted he wanted to make the match non-stop action, in an attempt to “blow up” Cena, or get him tired. However, Angle says that never happened, and Cena passed the test with flying colors.

“They told me the day of the show I was gonna wrestle John Cena. He came up to me and said, ‘Hey, Mr. Angle, I’m John Cena.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, and I’m gonna be working you tonight. It’s gonna be an honor to get in the ring with you.’ He was very respectful. You know what I tried to do with John?

“I really wanted him to take the test – the Angle test. I tried to blow him up and get him tired. I put the match together, and it was only 11 minutes.

“I made sure it was nonstop action and I wanted John to blow up. I wanted to take this monster-looking character, this Greek god, and show everybody how tired I could make him.

“And he didn’t get tired. The son of a bitch passed the test with flying colors. It was crazy.”

While Cena certainly impressed Angle inside the ring, his performance wasn’t completely flawless. Angle said he didn’t move as fluid as other wrestlers inside the ring, but made up for it with hard work.

“His moveset in the ring was awesome. He had a great moveset. He worked really hard – good-looking kid, great build.

“His only downfall was, you could tell the way he moved around that he’s not quite as fluid as other wrestlers.

“He’s more choppy and a little bit more uncoordinated, but he makes up for that with hard work. Being able to do what he does – nobody knew at this time how good a promo he cut.

“So, this was kind of a pleasant surprise when he eventually started doing it.”

Update on MJF’s AEW Salary

Some details on MJF’s current pay in AEW have been reported.

MJF is no doubt AEW’s top heel but there has been some dissension as of late. Maxwell’s contract with AEW is set to expire in 2024.

He’s made it no secret that he plans on testing free agency when the time comes. He’s even referenced WWE numerous times on AEW TV.

Reports have surfaced claiming that MJF hasn’t been too happy with his pay as he feels he’s outperformed his current salary.

What Is MJF’s AEW Salary?

PWTorch reports that MJF signed a starter deal with AEW back in 2019. This ranges from $40,000 to $70,000 per year.

With that said, the report notes that Maxwell is now making “hundreds of thousands of dollars.” It still pales in comparison to the salaries of some big names AEW has hired.

The PWTorch report notes that the gap in pay is a big reason why MJF has been at odds with AEW President Tony Khan.

MJF took the wrestling world by storm during AEW Double or Nothing weekend. He no-showed a meet and greet and had everyone wondering whether or not he’d appear at the PPV.

Ultimately, MJF did show up to do the job for Wardlow and an angle was shot where he was stretchered out of the arena.

WWE Reverses Name Change For SmackDown Superstar

WWE has decided against a slight name change that had been put in place for a SmackDown superstar.

In late May, WWE made a minor change to Ludwig Kaiser, the manager for Gunther. The small change had to do with the spelling of Kaiser’s first name.

It was changed from “Ludwig” to “Ludvig.”

Ludvig … We Hardly Knew Ya

Well, as it turns out “Ludvig” was short-lived.

WWE has already reverted to using “Ludwig” for Kaiser’s first name again.

Kaiser and Gunther were introduced to the main roster back in April. Gunther, formerly known as WALTER (his real name), has already started a feud with WWE Intercontinental Champion Ricochet.

On the May 27 episode of SmackDown, Gunther and Kaiser defeated Ricochet and Drew Gulak in a tag team match after Kaiser pinned Gulak.

After the match, Gunther attacked Ricochet.
