Gunther Interview: SummerSlam, Sami Zayn’s Reign & More

0

Ahead of tonight’s WWE SummerSlam PLE, SEScoops correspondent Ella Jay spoke with Gunther, who will challenge Damian Priest for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. During the interview, ‘The Ring General’ discussed his past jobs, rivalries, possible matches in the future, and more.

Gunther did very odd jobs in the past. One of them was a meatpacking job. It’s quite ironic now because ‘big meaty men slap’ and meet on Monday Night Raw every single week. When asked who is the ‘meatiest man” in the locker room, other than himself, Gunther replied:

“I don’t know, Sheamus, I guess.”

‘The Ring General’ also revealed what jobs he did before he decided to lace up his boots. He said:

“Call Center, obviously. Unloading containers with Sunflower seeds… store them..jobs like that. They’re a bunch of more. Yeah, it’s hard work. It’s good to do that and have appreciation for it because a lot of people do it every day and it’s unseen.”

Winning King of The Ring against Randy Orton

‘The Ring General’ earned a World Heavyweight Title shot after winning this year’s King Of The Ring Tournament by defeating Randy Orton. It was a dream match for a lot of people and WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H said they might once again share the ring in the future. When asked if he has an interest in facing Randy Orton in the future, Gunther said: “Yeah, for sure.”

He added:

“That’s how I enjoy professional wrestling most, if that makes sense. Randy is obviously one of the best to ever do it. And I think the setting was very nice too. Saudis are always very welcoming to us and the crowd over there really good. Yeah, felt like a great moment and that will forever remember.”

Possibly rekindling feud with Ilja Dragunov

Fans have been expecting Gunther and Ilja Dragunov to reignite their iconic rivalry and he was asked how far his relationship knowing Ilja goes back. He said:

“To 2011, 2012 something around that time, I think he started and he got booked by WXW a lot when I was always there. So since then, we know each other basically.”

Sami Zayn also had a match with Gunther back in WXW. Gunther recalled those matches with Zayn when he worked under El Generico moniker:

“Oh, yeah, I remember that. I have wrestled him more often before. But that’s the wrestling business itself. Sometimes. I mean, sometimes you see someone very intensively for a while and then that is disappear for years and then it all comes back around so”

Gunther praises Sami Zayn’s Intercontinental run

Gunther’s record-breaking WWE Intercontinental title reign of 666 days came to an end when Sami Zayn dethroned him at WrestleMania XL. ‘The Ring General’ praised Sami Zayn’s run as the Intercontinental Champion as he said:

“Oh, quite objectively has stepped up obviously. Big time. I think he’s done a very good job and I think yeah, he has a lot going on anyway with the whole Judgment Day thing as well. And yeah, I think he’s done really good but yeah, till tomorrow.”

Favorite rivalry

Gunther has faced a plethora of talents since joining WWE and has been involved in memorable rivalries. When asked what has been his favorite rivalry, he named The Miz.

“I think the one that would with The Miz. That was a very, very important one for me. And yeah, I really enjoyed that. And it was so important program I had in my career.”

WWE SummerSlam: Cleveland is stacked with some exciting matches. While Gunther is focussed on his own title match, he said that he is looking forward to the match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre with Seth Rollins as the Special Guest Referee. He said:

“I gotta be honest, I haven’t thought about any other match yet. I know which ones are there but maybe Drew and Punk.”

Bret Hart vs. British Bulldog

Held at Wembley Stadium, SummerSlam 1992 was highlighted by the iconic main event match between Bret Hart and the British Bulldog.

Punk vs McIntyre Feud

One of the most intriguing aspects of the CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre rivalry has been both talent’s ability to blur the lines between scripted storyline and genuine animosity.

Whilst the animosity between the two men is very much on a professional level, they have done a superb job of trying to convince fans that there really is a deeper issue here.

WWE SummerSlam Anticipated Returns and Surprises

Alexa Bliss’s Comeback

Alexa Bliss is rumored to return to the ring after her maternity leave. While many expect her to join the Wyatt Sicks, there is speculation that Bliss might initially resist aligning with them, adding an intriguing twist to her return storyline.

Seth Rollins’s Double Cross

Seth Rollins, serving as the special guest referee for the match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre, is anticipated to disrupt the bout significantly.

With longstanding issues with both competitors, Rollins is likely to attempt to screw both Punk and McIntyre, adding further tension to this highly anticipated grudge match.

Faction Dynamics and Title Clashes

The Judgment Day’s Influence

The Women’s World Championship match between Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley is poised to be more than just a title clash.

The Judgment Day faction, despite recent internal strife, is expected to play a crucial role, potentially aiding Ripley in securing the championship and restoring the group’s dominance.

The Return of Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman

One of the biggest rumors is the return of Roman Reigns, accompanied by Paul Heyman.

Reigns has been absent since his loss to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. Heyman’s reappearance, possibly alongside Reigns, is expected to spark significant developments, especially during Solo Sikoa’s match against Rhodes.

We will be updating this page with all of the big rumors coming out around SummerSlam tonight so bookmark this page and keep checking back!

WWE SummerSlam 2024 Predictions: CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre, The Bloodline, and More

0

WWE SummerSlam 2024 is looking like a very strong card on paper, but how are the matches likely to go on the night? The highlights include CM Punk returning for his first match back since injury at the Royal Rumble against Drew McIntyre and Rhea Ripley looking for revenge against Liv Morgan and to regain her Women’s World Championship.

Here are our predictions for the SummerSlam card on Saturday night from Cleveland, Ohio.

CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre

The Build-Up

The feud between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre has been simmering since McIntyre publicly disrespected Punk after his return to WWE.

Punk, who was injured at the Royal Rumble, faced constant taunting from McIntyre, culminating in Punk costing McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship on multiple occasions.

Match Prediction

With Seth Rollins as the special guest referee, we expect chaos. The tension between Punk and McIntyre, combined with Rollins’ history with Punk, suggests interference is likely.

Predicting a definitive winner is tough, but this match could lead to a future triple-threat encounter, perhaps even inside Hell in a Cell, so we’re picking McIntyre to win.

Cody Rhodes vs. Solo Sikoa – Undisputed WWE Championship

The Bloodline’s New Chapter

With Roman Reigns absent, Solo Sikoa has taken the helm of The Bloodline, bringing in new members and excommunicating Jimmy Uso.

His blatant disregard for Reigns’ orders has led to a direct challenge for Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship.

Match Prediction

We’re expecting Cody Rhodes to retain his title, possibly with assistance from Randy Orton and Kevin Owens, who have scores to settle with The Bloodline.

This victory would solidify Cody’s reign and set up future rivalries within The Bloodline.

Damian Priest vs. Gunther – World Heavyweight Championship

King of the Ring’s Impact

Gunther’s victory in the King of the Ring tournament earned him a shot at Damian Priest’s title.

With Priest determined to prove himself by facing Gunther without Judgment Day’s interference, the stakes are high.

Match Prediction

Despite Priest’s resolve, Gunther’s relentless assault on Priest’s confidence and abilities might tip the scales.

We expect Gunther to emerge victorious, setting up a dominant run as World Heavyweight Champion on RAW.

Liv Morgan vs. Rhea Ripley – Women’s World Championship

Revenge and Redemption

After injuring Rhea Ripley and causing turmoil within Judgment Day, Liv Morgan faces a vengeful Ripley.

With Dominik Mysterio caught in the middle, this match is charged with a personal vendetta and one of the most hyped heading in.

Match Prediction

Rhea Ripley’s return suggests she’s on a path to reclaim her title. However, with Finn Balor’s unpredictable behavior, there could be unexpected twists.

We expect Ripley to regain the championship, possibly with Balor’s reluctant assistance.

Logan Paul vs. L.A. Knight – WWE United States Championship

Rising Stars Clash

L.A. Knight’s pin over Logan Paul in the Money in the Bank qualifiers earned him this title shot. Logan Paul, questioning Knight’s career accolades, has ignited a personal rivalry ahead of this title match on Saturday night.

Match Prediction

L.A. Knight is poised to win the United States Championship, at least we think so.

This victory would validate his main roster career and potentially propel him into main event status down the line.

Bayley vs. Nia Jax – WWE Women’s Championship

Queen of the Ring Winner

Nia Jax’s Queen of the Ring victory earned her this title shot against Bayley. With Tiffany Stratton lurking with her Money in the Bank contract, the match could see interference.

Match Prediction

Bayley might retain her title, with a potential cash-in attempt from Stratton adding intrigue. However, Jax’s newfound aggression could lead to a significant title change. We’re going with Bayley retaining.

Sami Zayn vs. Bron Breaker – WWE Intercontinental Championship

Redemption for Breaker

Bron Breaker’s victory over Ilja Dragunov secured his rematch against Sami Zayn. Determined to prove his worth, Breaker is focused on capturing the title.

Match Prediction

Breaker is likely to win the Intercontinental Championship, adding a significant accolade to his rising career and reshaping the dynamic on RAW’s midcard roster.

Rhea Ripley Reveals Unlikely Basis of Friendship With Childhood Idol The Miz

0

Rhea Ripley has always been a fan of The Miz and her time in WWE has given her the opportunity to form a friendship with the A-Lister over a shared interest.

SEScoops correspondent Ella Jay caught up with The Mami during SummerSlam 2024 media day. They discussed topics such as the female star’s WrestleMania 40 entrance, Damian Priest’s world title run, and more.

The former Women’s Champion has always been open about looking up to The Miz. Now that she will be competing in an event hosted by the hometown star in Cleveland, we asked Ripley how her dynamic with the wrestling veteran has changed.

The Judgement Day star revealed that she has actually formed a friendship with the former WWE Champion, after they bonded over music:

“It’s funny because I don’t think I’ve actually talked to him about it. Yeah, so I think he obviously knows, because all the interviews that I’ve done putting him over, but I feel like we’ve actually started to have a friendship as well, which is nice. We bond over music. He’s always showing me different bands and different songs.”

Long Road Trips, Loud Music and Headbanging

Rhea Ripley revealed that they got the opportunity to strengthen their friendship while spending the long hours of WWE tours singing and sharing their favorite songs:

“We had a few road trips where we’d be on the same bus for hours, and we’d end up just like, blasting music and head banging the whole trip. He’s like, screaming. It was him, me and [Damian] Priest, and we were just going, absolutely ham, just screaming all the lyrics, singing and head banging.

We were, like, all drenched by the end of it, just sweating absolutely grossly. But I feel like our friendship has blossomed over music, which is really cool, because it’s something that I didn’t think we would blossom a friendship over which is weird. But yeah, I think it’s good.”

The Mami is set to compete against the Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan at the event from the Cleveland Browns Stadium tonight. You can check out her final message for Morgan before the PLE here.

Michael Cole Inks New Contract With WWE

0

Don’t expect to see Michael Cole leave WWE anytime soon as he has signed a new deal with the company.

Bryan Curtis of The Ringer reported that Cole penned a fresh contract in the spring which will keep him with the company for the foreseeable future. However, the tenure of the contract was not mentioned.

Michael Cole is arguably one of the greatest commentators of all time. Cole, a former news reporter, has lent his legendary voice to iconic moments in the company. In the company, he even had a short heel run and even scored a win at WrestleMania 27.

It was back in 1997 that Cole joined WWE and he is still going strong. He started doing backstage interviews at the time during the Attitude Era. In the next couple of years, he became a play-by-play commentator and served Smackdown in the 2000s. Over the years he has cemented his legendary status as the ‘Voice of WWE.’

In the past, Vince McMahon gave various talking points to Michael Cole in his headset during the shows which was uncomfortable for the veteran. This is something several other announcers have also criticized. Now that Vince is not in charge anymore, Michael Cole has freedom as he uses more stats and shares real-life backstories on the wrestlers. Cole shared his experience and also recalled how he confronted Vince McMahon. During the interview with The Ringer, he said:

“I’m not going to lie. There have been times where he has said things to me that were inappropriate. I would go back to Gorilla after the show and get in his face and tell him, ‘That was bullshit.’ He respected that I did that. Over the next few years, people still didn’t accept me because they looked at me as being a puppet for Vince. And I think some of that probably was true. Listen, I’m not a rebel. I’m here to make money and take care of my family and provide myself a good living. And when your boss asks you to do something, you do it. I still think, at that time, I was a hell of a good announcer.”

Currently, Michael Cole serves as the commentator for Raw alongside his broadcast partner Pat McAfee.

Ludwig Kaiser Confirms His Status For Bash In Berlin PLE

0

Imperium member Ludwig Kaiser is optimistic that he could be a part of WWE Bash In Berlin despite recuperating from an injury. Kaiser has been sidelined with a broken rib injury which he sustained in a match against Bron Breakker. He recently revealed that he struggled to breathe following the match and he has been kept off the SummerSlam card.

Ludwig Kaiser told SPOX that he is on the right track for his return. He believes that his appearance at the upcoming WWE Bash In Berlin PLE in Germany is ‘not in danger’ and reassured all the German fans about it. Kaiser also reflected on WWE’s recent tour and showed excitement for the upcoming events in Europe. He said:

“I’m on the right track. Bash in Berlin is not in danger, I can reassure all German fans on that. You have to watch SummerSlam – there’s too much going on at the moment. There’s something new every week. The WWE is boiling and booming. Most recently we were in Japan, Mexico, for TV in America and then we’re going back to Europe soon. If I stub and sprain my toe, I’ll miss something next week too.”

During the interview, Ludwig Kaiser was asked about a hypothetical scenario in which he would only get to serve as a manager of Gunther at Bash In Berlin instead of competing in the ring. The German wrestler said that it would be difficult for him to deal with it as he believes he could thrive inside the squared circle in front of the native crowd. He said:

“I would find it hard to cope with that. I have earned the status that I can tear the place down on my own. As the only German, I want to show myself to my family and friends, who saw me fight in front of 35 people ten years ago. That is important to me.”

It was recently reported that Kaiser will team up with Gunther against Ilja Dragunov and Sami Zayn in a dark match at the SmackDown before Bash In Berlin. However, it is to be noted that the card is subject to change. WWE Bash In Berlin is set to take place on August 31 at the Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany.

Rhea Ripley Sends Final Message To Liv Morgan Before SummerSlam Encounter

0

Rhea Ripley is not only fighting to score a victory over Liv Morgan tonight at the grand stage of SummerSlam, but she is also looking to eradicate the current champion for everything she has done.

SEScoops correspondent Ella Jay caught up with The Mami before the upcoming WWE PPV. They talked about Damian Priest proving himself as a champion, her WrestleMania 40 entrance and more.

When asked if she has any final messages for her SummerSlam opponent before their encounter in the Cleveland Browns Stadium tonight, Ripley told Morgan that there is no more hiding:

“You want to manipulate my family, and you want act like you’ve done nothing wrong. You want to play the victim. You want your fans to put over this little ‘victim mentality’ story of yours. Well, it all comes to an end at SummerSlam. There’s no more running, there’s no more hiding.”

You Can’t Escape The Nightmare: Rhea Ripley

Rhea Ripley hasn’t forgotten how Liv Morgan tried to win over Dominik Mysterio and the rest of The Judgement Day in her absence due to an arm injury. She pledged to absolutely eradicate the Women’s World Champion for everything she’s done:

“You can’t escape the nightmare that I’m gonna put on you, and when I walk out with my Women’s world Championship, then your little revenge tour? It ends. So say goodbye to everything you know and love, because you know me. You know me better than a lot of people and I will stop at nothing to absolutely eradicate you.”

While Rhea Ripley will be looking to take back the title she never lost in a match, the rest of The Judgement Day might find themselves hanging in the balance.

There have been indications that the group will be torn apart when they have to choose between the two female stars and this implosion may very well come at the PPV tonight.

WWE SummerSlam 2024 will kick off at 7 PM ET for US audience. For international start times, you can check our guide here.

Cody Rhodes Approached By Republican And Democratic Parties To Join Politics

Cody Rhodes for president?

Over the years we have seen a number of successful wrestling stars taking advantage of the fame to jump into politics. People such as Jesse Ventura and Glenn ‘Kane’ Jacobs have made successful transitions while even someone like The Rock has toyed with the idea of running for office.

If The Great One does decide to enter politics, however, he might very well find a familiar face contesting against him, as Cody Rhodes has now shown interest in joining politics as well.

During a recent interview with Gabby LaSpisa, The American Nightmare was asked about the discussion about him potentially running for president one day. Replying to it, the WWE star revealed that he’s actually been approached by both the Democratic and Republican parties with offers:

“So it’s funny that it’s been kind of brought up a bunch lately, because as shocking as this might seem to people, both…we live in a society where it’s really like, you got your Democratic Party, you got your Republican Party.

So few get to fall in the moderate range anymore, even though so many of us have a moderate mindset. But I actually got approached by, I won’t say people directly, but I got approached by individuals from both parties about potentially running for an office in Georgia.”

Cody Rhodes Wants To Help People

While Cody Rhodes didn’t provide any further detail on the offer made to him, he did confirm his interest in the possibility. The Undisputed WWE Champion explained that the idea of using his fame to help people is appealing to him:

“That’s probably as far as I can say, but it’s something that was really genuinely appealing. Here’s what’s appealing to me, politics is policy. Policy is one thing to me. But the idea that you can take your sphere of influence, whatever, this modicum of fame that wrestling and sports entertainment gave me to help people. Seems like the greatest gift.

Again, I don’t know if it’s something…. depending on how long I stay in this game. I don’t want to outstay my welcome, but that’s something that’s become very appealing, especially when presented to me, the possibilities that could come.”

Cody Rhodes is set to defend his WWE title against Solo Sikoa at the SummerSlam PPV this Saturday. A big change was made to this match during the latest SmackDown. You can read more about it here.

WWE SummerSlam Main Event Changed To Bloodline Rules, Final Card

0

The SummerSlam main event between Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa will now be contested under Bloodline Rules.

This week’s episode of SmackDown featured the final build for this match. The two contestants came face to face in the opening segment of the show and exchanged some intense words.

When Rhodes brought up his win over Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, Solo claimed that Reigns was a weak Tribal Chief and challenged the WWE Champion to a Bloodline Rules match of his own.

The American Nightmare claimed that he is not afraid of any Bloodline member and he then accepted the stipulation for their match.

Roman Reigns has long been rumored for a SummerSlam return to finally confront Sikoa. A Bloodline rules match will only make it easier for the former champion to stop his cousin from winning the World title.

The Bloodline’s Fatu & Tonga Win WWE Tag Team Titles On 8/2 SmackDown

0

The Bloodline once again holds tag team championship gold after Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga won the WWE Tag Team Championships on SmackDown. On the go-home show before WWE SummerSlam, the two teams competed in the main event of the show which also happened to be in Johnny Gargano’s hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.

As seen in previous Bloodline matches, this bout saw interference as Solo Sikoa hit Ciampa with a Samoan Spike at ringside while Gargano was trying to fight off everyone else. In the end, it was Fatu who got the win for his team to bring The Bloodline its first taste of gold since WrestleMania 40.

This marks the end of DIY’s time as WWE Tag Team Champions. The pair had held the gold since the July 5, edition of SmackDown where they dethroned A-Town Down Under. Ciampa and Gargano had just one successful title defense, that being against A-Town Down Under on the July 12, episode.

With the WWE Tag Team Titles now with the Bloodline, all eyes are on Solo Sikoa and tonight’s Undisputed WWE Championship match. Sikoa has vowed to win the gold Cody Rhodes captured at WrestleMania by defeating Roman Reigns. On this week’s SmackDown, it was announced that their title match will be under Bloodline Rules, and Sikoa once again had some choice words for Roman Reigns, calling his cousin “weak.” Comments like these and others have led many to speculate that Reigns will return tonight at SummerSlam.

The second dark match of the night featured the team of Rey Mysterio, Jey Uso, The Miz and R Truth taking on The Judgement Day in an 8 men tag team bout.

The babyfaces had a lot of fun in this match and they all danced to Uso’s theme song for an extended period. They even got the World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest to do the Yeet at one point.

Hardy Boyz Reportedly Working With WWE For Documentaries & More

0

Matt and Jeff Hardy have been working with WWE to produce interviews for upcoming documentaries, Fightful Select has reported. In addition to interviews, other content with the brothers has reportedly been filmed that will be rolled out on WWE’s digital media platforms in the future. WWE sources reportedly told Fightful that fans shouldn’t read too much into this situation, but that an eventual appearance by the brothers wouldn’t be out of the question.

The Hardy Boyz separately parted ways with AEW earlier this year and both have since been working with TNA. It has been reported that both men are working in TNA without official contracts meaning WWE would be able to offer them a deal if they wanted.

Matt and Jeff’s last return to WWE took place at WrestleMania 33 and the pair won the RAW Tag Team Championships in one of the most exciting returns in recent history. Matt left WWE in 2020 while Jeff would be controversially released the next year after refusing to enter rehab. It was later revealed that the behavior that made WWE insist on Jeff entering rehab was not due to drugs.

Could A Return Happen?

Fans reportedly should not read too much into the Hardyz filming WWE content, but there are those eager to see the legendary brothers make a full-term return. Last month, Matt Hardy told fans to “never say never” and teased that the Hardy Boyz could return as part of the ongoing NXT-TNA crossover. The elder Hardy pointed out that the WWE NXT Tag Team Championships are a set of titles that the pair are yet to win and teased that could change.

This tease came shortly after Matt said on Busted Open Radio that his “best case scenario” would see the pair have “a hell of a run” in TNA before doing “something small” in WWE followed by a Hall of Fame induction. Jeff has said he only wants an induction if he goes in with his brother. Stay tuned to SE Scoops for all the latest on Matt & Jeff Hardy and a potential WWE return.

WWE SummerSlam: Will Roman Reigns Return?

At WrestleMania 40: Sunday, Roman Reigns’ 1,316-day run as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion ended, marking the finish to one of the greatest stories in modern WWE history. Not long after this monumental moment, it became apparent that Reigns would not be appearing anytime soon, leaving fans all the more eager to see him again.

Though absent from WWE programming, Reigns has not been taking things easy. The former World Champion was spotted the week after his Philadelphia defeat filming a comedy heist film with Keke Palmer. Reigns has also been training hard in the gym ahead of his inevitable return to the squared circle.

But when will this return come? Well many believe that the Tribal Chief’s comeback will be at SummerSlam this Saturday in Cleveland.

It’s worth remembering that Reigns has a history of huge moments at the Biggest Party of the Summer. It was in 2018 that Reigns ended the 504-day reign of Brock Lesnar as Universal Champion, a reign that now pails in comparison to the Head of the Table. Just two years later, Reigns would return from a hiatus brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’d be just one week later that he’d capture the Universal Title.

But what would a Roman Reigns return look like at SummerSlam 2024? If he does make an appearance, it’ll almost certainly be in the Undisputed WWE title match between Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa. In Reigns’ absence, Sikoa has laid claim to being the Tribal Chief and has made a series of remarks about Reigns himself. From claiming Roman Reigns will never return to essentially daring Reigns to show-up, stating in a promo that if Reigns has a problem with Solo Sikoa and his Bloodline, he knows where to find him.

The Bloodline Civil War of the summer of 2023 proved popular with fans, and the Cleveland Browns Stadium could be the epicenter of a second conflict. With the recent arrivals of Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu, there are more family members than ever before, ensuring a much wider conflict than what fans saw last year.

Of course, the question then is who would Reigns recruit to his side, especially given his past treatment of his own kin. While Jimmy Uso (a victim of Sikoa’s Bloodline) may fall back in line with Roman, it’s hard to see Jey Uso returning to SmackDown and aligning with the brother and cousin who did him wrong. Interestingly enough, Zilla Fatu, the son of Umaga, is reportedly in Cleveland, with some speculating his debut could come with Reigns’ return.

But there’s also another option that few have considered; that Reigns isn’t returning to confront Sikoa and his allies, but to align with them. After all, Sikoa will be facing Cody Rhodes, the man who ended Reigns’ run on top, a fact that the former champion will not have forgotten.

Will Roman Reigns return at WWE SummerSlam this weekend, and if so what role will he play in the fate of the Undisputed WWE Championship?

Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on the Tribal Chief.
