The latest Saturday Night Live (SNL) Weekend Update took aim at Linda McMahon’s WWE past in a new skit.
For years, McMahon served as CEO of WWE, working alongside her husband, Vince McMahon, the company’s founder. During WWE’s Attitude Era, Linda was featured in several storylines as the McMahon family—Vince, Stephanie, and Shane—became prominent on-screen figures.
One notable storyline from 2003 saw her attacked by Kane to build up a feud between Kane and Shane McMahon. This angle was recently referenced on Weekend Update.
During the segment, Colin Jost used McMahon’s WWE history to joke about her role in dismantling the Department of Education. The punchline, “Maybe as high as 69,” was delivered alongside an image of Kane performing a Tombstone Piledriver on her.
While the skit acknowledged Linda McMahon’s WWE tenure, it did not mention that Kane’s portrayer, Glenn Jacobs, is now the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.
Jost and his Weekend Update co-host, Michael Che, are no strangers to WWE. The duo competed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 35 in 2019, adding to the long history of celebrity involvement at WrestleMania.
Wardlow has been absent from AEW television for nearly a year, leading to speculation about his status with the company.
His last match took place on the March 13th episode of Dynamite, where he lost to then-AEW World Champion Samoa Joe via referee stoppage. Since then, he has remained inactive.
According to Fightful Select‘s Sean Ross Sapp, Wardlow has recently been in Los Angeles, the site of tonight’s AEW Revolution pay-per-view. This has naturally fueled speculation about a possible return. However, while sources haven’t confirmed his presence backstage, they noted that it “wouldn’t be surprising” if he were there.
Despite this, it’s been clarified that Wardlow’s visit to Los Angeles is primarily for an unrelated project. Reports throughout his absence have consistently pointed to an injury as the reason for his inactivity, despite other narratives surfacing.
As of now, there is no confirmation of Wardlow appearing on tonight’s broadcast, nor any updates regarding his potential return timeline.

Will Ospreay has revealed the one time he called himself the best in the world.
The AEW star recently had an interview with Chris Van Vliet. He talked about things such as his match with Bryan Danielson that was rated six and a half stars by Dave Meltzer, Triple H taking shot at him and more.
During the interview, Ospreay was also asked if he thinks about life after wrestling. The Aerial Assassin noted that he wants to have a normal life and have a regular job once he retires, but for now he’s focused on being the best in the world.
This prompted the question if he thinks he is the best wrestler in the world like many believe him to be and Will replied negatively:
“Yeah, of course not. I’m confident in my abilities, and I’m confident with my audience. Does that make me the best? I don’t know. Because I feel like the best is now so widely spread. Are you the guy that draws the most? Are you the guy that shifts the most merch? Are you best bell to bell? And I’ll just go I’m the best.”
Will Ospreay then revealed the one incident when he called himself one of the best of the sport. He recalled being out with his son watching a circus performance:
“I was out with my kid watching Cirque du Soleil at the Royal Albert Hall, and a guy came up and he takes a photo with me. Then Harry goes, why does that happen all the time?
I was just like, I don’t know how to explain it to him, because he’s six, and I have the mental capacity of a six-year-old. So I went, you know I do wrestling. He’s like, yeah. I said I’m like the best. That’s the only way I could put it.”
The 31-year-old also noted that his style has changed a lot from when he was 27 years old. According to him, doing something like a shooting star press takes a lot out of him nowadays. His body has locked up so he is having to change his wrestling style accordingly.
Shawn Spears has explained how his mindset about retirement has changed after having kids.
The new NXT North American Champion recently had an interview with Gabby Laspisa. He talked about things such as leaving AEW for NXT, Cody Rhodes’ WrestleMania plans, and more.
When asked about plans for his retirement, Spears who made his wrestling debut 23 years ago in 2002 noted that he always wanted to complete 25 years in wrestling. After the birth of his two sons with WWE alumni Peyton Royce, his mindset has changed:
“Before the kids it was kind of like, let’s just, I’ll just listen to my body kind of thing, which kind of still plays today. I thought if I can make it to a quarter of a century, cuz that just sounds, a, old but also sounds kind of neat. If I can make 25 years. 25 years at anything is impressive. 25 years in a sport? It’s pretty rare.
But now it’s pretty much as my kids get into playing sports, once they can play baseball, soccer, in another couple like another year, year and a half, two years. I also want to do Jiu-Jitsu with my kids. So once they’re old enough to understand some kind of control, like emotional regulation or whatever, maybe like four or five.
I want to do that with them. So that’s something we would do together. So when they see me getting beat up a little bit, which I will, I’m gonna get my ass thrown around. It’s one of those things where it’s okay. I just need to control how I react to it, kind of thing.”
Apart from running his own successful wrestling school named Flatbacks Wrestling, Shawn Spears also teaches a class in NXT. When the possibility of him leaving the development brand to go elsewhere was brought up, the wrestling veteran said that “I’m not going anywhere. This is the last stop.”
The 44-year-old explained that he’ll continue training people even after he has retired from active competition, though he’ll do it only as long as he can get in the ring and teach people things firsthand:
“So, if I’m still able to do those things and play sports and kick a ball and if they run and jump on me and I can catch them without blowing out my back or worrying about my knees collapsing, then I’ll be okay. But I’m gonna listen to the body on that regard.
Right now, I feel good. I’m still moving and I feel as if I can still keep up with the younger kids and I can still you know, I can still hang. But as long as it doesn’t kind of disrupt any plans I have in the future with my kids, I’ll do it as long as I can. The beautiful thing is that even when I step back from on-screen performing as a professional wrestler, I’m still gonna be, I’m still gonna have the school, I’m still gonna teach.
I’m still gonna be actively in there because I believe that’s the best way to learn is by hands-on teaching. That’s the way I was taught by Eric Young and that’s the way I teach my kids now at the Performance Center and here. So, I’ll always be a hands-on coach. The day that I can’t be, that’s probably time to pack it in.”
Indi Hartwell is a free agent now that her non-compete clause has expired, and the ex-WWE Superstar is already winning gold. At Renegades of Wrestling’s latest taping, Hartwell returned to action and won the Women’s Championship from Aysha, ending a reign that had surpassed 700 days.
Fans at the event gushed on Reddit about the taping, with one calling the win “impressive” and another said it “was an incredible show.” Fans who didn’t attend eager to see Hartwell’s victory will have to wait as Renegades of Wrestling typically upload events to YouTube a week or two after the event takes place.
This victory was particularly special for Hartwell, who competed in her native Melbourne for the first time in six years. Not only was this a homecoming, but Hartwell’s victory came in her first match since being released from WWE. Hartwell’s exit was announced in November 2024, but due to SmackDown being taped in advance, she appeared on the blue brand after news of her release.
With a victory and a championship win under her belt, Hartwell is hoping to keep this momentum going back in the United States. The former WWE Superstar will make her House of Glory Wrestling debut at the City Of Dreamz event on March 15 in her first event in the U.S. post-WWE. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on Indi Hartwell who is proving that her WWE exit won’t stop her from succeeding in the ring.
‘Legit’ Leyla Hirsch has stepped out of All Elite Wrestling and into married life. On Instagram, Hirsch shared that she and her wife Jordan Haykin wed in a ceremony held on February 28, 2025. In the comments, several names from wrestling congratulated the couple including Blair Davenport, Gisele Shaw, Swerve Strickland, Lady Frost, Tay Melo, and Drew Gulak.
Hirsch’s exciting news comes at a pivotal time in her career. Hirsch exited AEW on March 1 and she is currently a free agent. Outside of AEW, Hirsch has competed for Beyond Wrestling, Black Label Pro, the NWA, and other promotions. Her most recent match was as part of ROH Final Battle 2024, where she unsucessfully challenged ROH Women’s World Television Champion Red Velvet.
Hirsch’s future in wrestling remains unclear but the ‘Legit’ talent is diving head first into huge changes in her personal life. We here at SEScoops would like to send our congratulations to Leyla and Jordan on their nuptials.
With NXT Roadblock set for March 11 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, an important clarification has been made regarding the main event—a title vs. title match between NXT Women’s Champion Giulia and NXT Women’s North American Champion Stephanie Vaquer.
Despite both championships being on the line, NXT lead announcer Vic Joseph has confirmed that this will not be a unification match. Speaking on the Getting Over podcast, Joseph emphasized that while one competitor will walk away holding both titles, they will remain separate championships.
“Let’s just clarify this now. It’s Stephanie Vaquer, it is Giulia, the biggest women’s match in NXT history. It is title vs title. One woman will leave as the Women’s AND North American Women’s Champion. One woman will have both titles,” Joseph explained.
He further stated, “If I misspoke – which I don’t think I did, because I know it’s not a unification match – if I did say it was a unification match because I was trying to smack Booker for making noises or I was hitting Corey for some reason, then I apologize. But it is not a unification match.”
This confirmation puts to rest any speculation, making it clear that both titles will remain distinct following NXT Roadblock.
Nikki Bella has reacted to her ex-fiancé John Cena finally turning heel.
The wrestling world is still abuzz after the Cenation Leader did the unthinkable and joined The Rock at Elimination Chamber. The 16-time world champ’s brutal attack on his WrestleMania opponent Cody Rhodes is a side of Cena that fans thought they’ll never get to see. It has increased the excitement for their upcoming WWE championship match manyfolds.
The Bella Twins had an interview with TK Trinidad while appearing on the Red Carpet for The Queen of The Ring movie. When asked about John’s heel turn, Brie Bella said that it was done very well:
“About time. I’m actually really happy because this is his farewell year, and I didn’t know if he’d give it or not. So, I love it and the way it was done. I mean, chef’s kiss.”
John Cena’s former fiancé Nikki Bella then gave her thoughts on his turn. She said that it’s something people have wanted for long and it’s kind of a gift for the fans from the former champion in his retirement year:
“It was done so well. I think to end your farewell tour and turn into a character that the fans have wanted for so long. It’s not only, I think, going to be fun for him, but how great for the fans. It’s like a gift he’s giving. You know what I mean? I think it’s so cool. It was amazing, too.”
Apart from this, The Bella twins also talked about the potential of WWE return and teased a comeback in near future. You can check out their full interview below:
Charges will not be filed against former AEW star Bear Boulder, who was arrested in January 2025 following claims of domestic battery by strangulation. PW Insider now reports that the case against Bounder, real name Thomas Wansaw, has been closed and now charges will be fired.
A filing from Katrina Teressa Mosciski, Assistant State Attorney for The Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida, reads:
“COMES NOW the State of Florida, by and through the undersigned Assistant State Attorney and states that: 1. From the investigation which has been made, it is the opinion of the writer that this case is not suitable for prosecution. 2. This action is taken to clear the records and to release subject’s bond if any has been posted responsive to the above charge(s). If in custody, defendant should be released. PROVIDED THERE ARE NO OTHER CHARGES OR HOLDS AGAINST HIM.”
The vistim had filed a statement on January 15, asking the State Attorney’s office to not prosecute Wansaw and requested for the charges to be dismissed. That document was added to the court records on February 28.
Bear Boulder had been a part of the Iron Savages tag team alongside Bear Bronson until his termination earlier this year. Bronson has not appeared for AEW or Ring of Honor since the reported incident. His only match since the situation came in March as part of an event for Beyond Wrestling.
At AEW Revolution 2025, Cope will challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship. Speaking on the March 8, edition of AEW Collision, the Rated R Superstar pleaded for ‘the old Jon Moxley’ to face him at the pay-per-view. Cope also acknowledged that the window of opportunity to win another World Championship is closing.
“I know that time is running out. I know that this could be the last time I ever fight for a World title. So I have to make this count.”
While time may not be on Cope’s side, there’s no expiration date on the passion or grit of the WWE Hall of Famer. Cope ended by declaring that “I have to do this” and told Moxley that he’ll see him in Los Angeles.
The "Rated R Superstar" Cope isn't afraid of AEW World Champion Jon Moxley ahead of their Championship Match TOMORROW at #AEWRevolution LIVE on PPV!
It’s been 14 years since Cope last won a World Champion, with that victory coming during the February 11, 2011, edition of WWE SmackDown. While the WWE Hall of Famer planned on winning his 12th World Championship in WWE upon returning to the ring in 2020, a title victory alluded the then-Edge.
In AEW, Cope is a two-time TNT Champion, though his second reign came to an unfortunate end due to an injury. With Cope on the very of a potential 12th title victory, it remains to be seen if he can win the gold, or will ‘the old Jon Moxley’ prove too much for the Rated-R Superstar.
On the March 3, edition of WWE Raw, IYO SKY won the Women’s World Title from Rhea Ripley, providing a major shake-up on the Road to WrestleMania 41. Speaking to The Toronto Sun, Natalya recalled gathering with the women’s division to watch the match and how WWE went against its own rules.
“We actually watched it from Gorilla… It’s usually off-limits unless you’re about to go out, but Triple H knew how excited we were to see IYO vs. Rhea.“
Natalya was excited to sit in Gorilla and watch the match up close. After SKY’s victory, the mood behind the scenes was that of jubilation.
“When IYO walked back after the match, I was just so excited for her. Everyone was happy.“
SKY’s victory has been treated as an upset by some, despite the Japanese star’s immense in-ring talent. Given Ripley’s star power and dominance in her previous title reign, many had predicted that ‘Mami’ would retain and walk into WrestleMania 41 as Women’s World Champion.
Instead, it’ll be SKY who puts the title on the line against Bianca Belair, the winner of the 2025 Women’s Elimination Chamber match. While many have predicted that Ripley will still find her way into the match, it remains to be seen if that happens after this stunning title change.
The Bloodline and Deadman Editions of WWE 2K25 have been released, giving gamers an opportunity to play the game ahead of the March 14, release of the Standard Edition. Unsurprisingly, Cody Rhodes plays a large role in the game, and fans can experience a throwback to the American Nightmare’s AEW days.
Fans can unlock the ‘Throne Smasher’ entrance in MyRISE, which as the name suggests, sees Cody destroy a Triple H-inspired throne as part of his entrance. The commentary also alludes to how Rhodes is no stranger to smashing thrones, a nod to his time in AEW.
Holy shit Cody Rhodes has an entrance where he smashes the throne in WWE 2K25 ??? pic.twitter.com/AgBizv65kE
— A Kenny For Your Thoughts (@_kennythoughts) March 9, 2025
Rhodes smashed the throne at AEW’s first pay-per-view, Double or Nothing 2019, using Triple H’s signature weapon, the sledgehammer. The act at the time divided opinion among fans. While some saw it as an epic way for Cody to take aim at WWE (years before he’d return,) some found it petty to take aim at Triple H and WWE, three years after Cody had chosen to leave.
Few could have predicted in 2019 that Rhodes would one-day return to WWE and become the company’s biggest babyface star in a decade or more. While Rhodes’ AEW days are well and truly in the past, WWE 2K25 shows that Rhodes isn’t shying away from his previous issues with WWE.
WWE 2K25 is set to release on March 14, with the Deadman and Bloodline Editions of the game already available for eager gamers. With a roster of over 300 playable characters, and DLC already confirmed, this year’s game will be the literal biggest WWE game of all time, and one that will feature plenty from Cody Rhodes.
Carmella has reacted to fans telling her she needed to die for speaking about her WWE departure.
The former SmackDown Women’s Champion appeared on the Barely Famous podcast earlier this week to discuss her unceremonious departure from the company in detail.
Many fans took the side of the billion-dollar corporation, however, targeting the female star with harsh comments. One such fan took things too far and wished death upon the former champion in a tweet that’s since been taken down for violating the site rules:
Carmella also responded to another tweet discussing the situation and noted that such reactions are the reason why talent are afraid to speak up about their struggles:
“Literally. this is why women are afraid to speak up because they get ridiculed nonstop for it. but it is what it is! I’d rather be hated for telling the truth than stay silent.”
literally. this is why women are afraid to speak up because they get ridiculed nonstop for it. but it is what it is! I’d rather be hated for telling the truth than stay silent. ????? https://t.co/Be1r23bOOQ
The Princess of Staten Island was left surprised when WWE informed her that her deal was coming up and they were not looking to re-sign her earlier this year. The now former WWE star had been on hiatus since March 2023 due to her pregnancy and subsequent health issues.
According to Carmella herself, the company had given her the impression that her deal was frozen and it would only be reinstated when she returned to the ring. You can check out her remarks on the matter here.
WrestleMania has never been held outside North America but fans are eager to see WWE’s biggest event go international. While fans and wrestlers have spoken at length about WrestleMania heading to the United Kingdom, Asuka is ready to see the Showcase of the Immortals head to her native Japan.
On X, a fan asked Asuka if she’d rather have her final match at WrestleMania or inside the legendary Tokyo Dome. The former Women’s Champion wanted both, as well as a special entrance featuring Godzilla.
Easy. Tokyo Dome… but only if it’s WrestleMania and I enter on Godzilla’s back. ??? https://t.co/9M77gLnRRO
While Asuka has big plans for a future WrestleMania, who record at the show of shows is surprisingly poor. Despite once being undefeated in WWE for over two years, Asuka remains winless at WrestleMania. Her first defeat in WWE came at WrestleMania 34, which didn’t just end her winning streak, but started off a new unfortunate streak at the event.
Asuka’s status at this year’s WrestleMania remains unclear as the Japanese star has been out of action since May 2024 due to a leg injury. While it remains to be seen when she’ll be back on our screens, Asuka continues to have fans talking with her social media antics, and her big plans for her retirement match.
Vic Joseph believes the chemistry between him, Booker T, and Corey Graves is only going to get better with time.
The Saviour of Misbehaviour made some headlines earlier this year when he was taken off the SmackDown commentary team and re-assigned to NXT. Graves saw the move as a demotion and vented frustration at being replaced by Pat McAfee on the main roster in a social media outburst. Things seem to have settled down since then, however, and Corey is now focusing on making the most out of this new opportunity.
During a recent interview with Getting Over podcast, Vic Joseph was asked about the Corey Graves situation and how big of a personal hill he thinks Graves needed to overcome to accept his new reality. Joseph explained that Corey needed to look at the whole thing from a different angle:
“I think he had to have a new set of eyes and you know, take a deep breath. [It’s] something we’ve always talked about…we used to travel in the car together. [It] was [like], ‘Hey man, it’d be cool to call the shows together one day.’ I think once he and I had the talk, like, ‘Dude, this is what we’ve always talked about.’ He was kind of like, ‘Yeah, you’re right.’”
Vic Joseph then detailed an incident highlighting his long-term friendship with the fellow announcer. Speaking on the transition of going from a two-men booth on SmackDown to a three-men booth in NXT, the broadcast personality explained that it took a while for Corey Graves to get comfortable in the new dynamic:
“I always wore a bow tie, every WrestleMania. It’s a velour bow tie, people forget. I think I’ve told this story one time but Corey Graves gave me that as a gift at my very first WrestleMania. So we have that personal connection.
I think the difficulty [is] for Corey, and I think this is where you start to see that seamless transition. Now, he doesn’t have to do as much. Now he can take a deep breath. Now he can take a step back and understand that it is three of us, three unique individuals, three distinct personalities for one goal for one show. So it’s been getting better each and every week. And it’s only gonna get better.”
“John Cena has granted more Make-A-Wishes than anyone. If you look up ‘babyface’ in the dictionary, his picture is right next to it.”
Nobody expected this heel turn, Natalya added, unless you watched Total Divas. Reflecting on John’s often-controlling demeanor on the show, Natalya said that her experience with John on the show made his heel turn less of a surprise.
“I remember how strict John’s house rules were… He was one of those people who always had a coaster under their cup. So I knew a heel turn was coming, I could feel it a mile away.”
Fightful Select reports that while early rumors suggested The Rock initially wanted to turn heel alongside Cody Rhodes, Rhodes turned down the offer. There was also a plan for Cena to turn at WrestleMania 41 before WWE moved this shocking betrayal earlier in their plans.
Cena’s shocking victory inside the Elimination Chamber has set the stage for WrestleMania 41, where he will challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. With Cena set to return to WWE television on the March 17 edition of Monday Night RAW, fans remain eager to here what John has to say about this turn to the dark side.
Lex Luger is officially set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and now The Total Package himself has spoken out about the honor. After Triple H announced on March 7 that Luger would be part of the 2025 WWE Hall of Fame class, the wrestling legend took to Twitter/X the following day to share his heartfelt reaction to the support of fans.
Overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and congratulations shown by the incredible Wrestling fans, family and friends!!! So honored and filled with gratitude. Thank you Lord!!! pic.twitter.com/GXm2Hc2gIn
Luger’s career is certainly worthy of the Hall of Fame. In WWE, Luger captivated fans as the heel ‘narcissist’ character before becoming an All-American babyface in 1993. Though Luger never won a World Championship in WWE, Lex won the WCW World Title from Hollywood Hogan in 1996, marking Hogan’s first title loss since forming the NWO.
Beyond the ring, Luger’s journey has been one of perseverance. After suffering a spinal stroke in 2007 that left him partially paralyzed, he has battled through adversity, becoming an inspirational figure for fans and fellow wrestlers alike. His induction is not just about his in-ring accomplishments—it’s a recognition of his resilience and personal triumphs.
WWE Hall of Fame 2025
Luger is the third confirmed name for the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2025, joining Triple H and Michelle McCool. While The Natural Disasters have been reported for an induction, that has yet to be confimed by WWE. Though a specific date for the Hall of Fame has yet to be confirmed, fans can expect to see Luger take his place among some of wrestling’s all-time greats this April over WrestleMania week.
Bully Ray is pissed at Travis Scott’s involvement in John Cena’s heel turn.
The popular music star has received a lot of criticism in wrestling circles after the latest WWE PPV. People have questioned his involvement in the whole angle after reports that his slap led to a ruptured eardrum for Cody Rhodes at the show.
The WWE Hall of Famer was not shy on his thoughts on the matter during the latest Busted Open Radio. He claimed that Scott deserves to have his jaw shattered for what he did:
“Travis Scott deserves to have his jaw shattered and wired shut. It’s when the mark in the ring all of a sudden decides that he’s a pro wrestler and he knows what the hell he’s doing, and that mark is Travis Scott… Dude, because Travis Scott decided that he’s going to look like some tough guy in front of the world. You got one coming, Travis. I hope it’s from Cody. If it’s not from him, I hope I never see you one day.”
It’s worth mentioning that Cody Rhodes has seemingly downplayed the damage from Scott’s slap. The Rock also noted during the post-Elimination Chamber press conference that Travis wanted to get his hands bloody so he told the rap artist to ‘make it count.’
Despite the hate, it doesn’t appear we’ve seen the last of Travis Scott in WWE. The Rock has suggested that he has caught the wrestling bug after his appearance and he is training to get in the ring as a performer down the line.
Logan Paul brought WWE action to Wembley Stadium during the Sidemen Charity Match, delivering a suplex to Joe Weller in a goal celebration that quickly went viral. But first, he scored this header goal to put his team up 5-4.
After Weller converted a penalty to put Sidemen FC ahead against the YouTube All-Stars, he initially mimicked Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature “SUIII” celebration. However, things escalated when Paul, a WWE superstar, seized the moment to suplex Weller onto the pitch before pinning him, with teammates counting to three in true wrestling fashion.
The stunt, performed in front of a crowd of nearly 90,000, instantly became a social media sensation, with fans dubbing it one of the wildest goal celebrations ever. Despite Weller’s impressive performance, which included two goals, the YouTube All-Stars ultimately secured victory, winning 5-4 on penalties after a thrilling 9-9 draw.
Paul, who last wrestled at Elimination Chamber, was among several high-profile content creators taking part in the charity event, including KSI, iShowSpeed, and Kai Cenat.
WWE is making a major shift in India as its programming moves exclusively to Netflix on April 1, 2025. This transition marks the end of WWE’s long-standing partnership with Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) and introduces a new streaming era for Indian wrestling fans.
For over two decades, Sony aired WWE’s flagship shows—Raw, SmackDown, and NXT—along with major Premium Live Events (PLEs) like WrestleMania and Royal Rumble. However, with WWE’s contract with Sony expiring on March 31, Netflix will take over as the exclusive home of WWE content in India.
This move is part of a 10-year, $5 billion deal between WWE’s parent company, TKO Group Holdings, and Netflix. While Raw debuted on Netflix in multiple regions in January 2025, India’s transition was delayed due to Sony’s existing rights. Now, Indian fans will have live access to Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and all major PLEs, with the added feature of live Hindi commentary. Netflix will also provide on-demand access to WWE’s vast content library.
While this move excites many fans, questions remain about accessibility, as Netflix operates on a premium subscription model. However, with WWE embracing streaming and Netflix expanding into live sports, this partnership marks a new era for wrestling in India.
Carmella has explained how it’s possible for her to not know that her WWE contract was going to expire.
The female star appeared on the Barely Famous podcast for the first time since the news of her exit from WWE became public. She talked openly about the circumstances leading to her departure.
The former SmackDown Women’s Champion went on a hiatus in March 2013 due to her pregnancy. When asked how the company first reacted to the news, Carmella noted that they were very supportive at the time:
“A handful of women have gotten pregnant while under contract and basically, they freeze your contract while you’re pregnant. They pay you, which is so incredible. They don’t have to pay you when you’re pregnant, and they paid me, and they’ve paid every woman that’s been pregnant before under contract. I’m so grateful for that.”
The Princess of Staten Island then went into details of why and how it was possible for her to not know that her WWE contract was coming to an end until she got the call from the office. Carmella explained that the standard procedure is for a frozen contract to be reinstated after the star returns to action. In her case, however, the officials decided to reinstate her deal in January 2024, without notifying her:
“Basically when I got pregnant, they sent me a letter and they said that like, they gave me X amount of days off on my contract for being pregnant and then seven weeks postpartum. So basically, they anticipated how long it would take me to recover postpartum. I’m assuming they give this number to all the women who get pregnant, right? But they said in this letter like no matter what, when you return to wrestling, these dates will all change.
So basically, it’s just kind of like a placeholder date and number and period of time that you have off, but when you return to wrestle, that’s the date that we’re actually going to take. That contract would be frozen for that amount of time that you were out.
So like say I was out for 300 days and then like okay, we’re going to freeze your contract for 300 days. Or we’re going to freeze your contract for whatever amount of time, but I was out for 300 days then once I came back, they would add that 300 days back onto my contract. If that makes sense. So that was just the impression I was under because that’s how it’s worked for other women in the past and that’s how it’s worked if you’re injured or anything. “
Carmella also revealed that she had contact with the company during this period. She didn’t want to be sitting home just collecting her paycheck, so she pitched ideas to be involved in various non-wrestling capacities such as pre-show panelist or manager for a team. Though she was not informed of the change in her contract status even when she let the company know about her postpartum medical issues. She only became aware of it when she was called to inform that her deal will not be renewed earlier this year.
WWE & Topps have partnered once again to produce collectible trading cards which fans are already snatching up. While an incredibly-rare 1/1 triple-autographed card is already proving to be a highly-sought-after commodity, a different card in the set is raising attention for the wrong reasons.
One card in the latest wave celebrates ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and includes a biography about the Texas Rattlesnake. Unfortunately, a production error means that the card claims Austin teamed with Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38 in April 2022. In reality, the two were adversaries on the night and Austin would defeat Owens in his first match in close to two decades.
This isn’t the first time a WWE trading card has been inaccurate. A few years ago, a card claimed that The Miz’s eight reigns as Intercontinental Champion were the most of any wrestler. In reality, AEW’s Chris Jericho holds the record at nine.
Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 41
Talk has grown in recent weeks about Austin potentially being a part of WrestleMania 41. The WWE Hall of Famer has previously confirmed that he will be in Las Vegas this weekend, but has claimed WWE has not contacted him for the Premium Live Event.
With John Cena turning heel and aligning with The Rock, some have predicted that Austin may back up Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania. Cena recently teased doing something with Austin via an Instagram post, though as usual, gave no explanation. Whether Austin has a role to play this April or not, fans are eager to see the Rattlesnake, who fought Kevin Owens in 2022, despite what this card may claim.
Speaking after the match, Knight vowed to bring the title back to the light.
“Shinsuke Nakamura you had a nice little reign in the shadows.Hope you enjoyed it but now we’re bringing it out to the light like nobody else can.”
Knight’s words echo a common criticsm of Nakamura’s reign as champion as he very rarely defended the gold on TV. Nakamura’s defeat to Knight on SmackDown marked only the second televised title defense for the King of Strong Style. The issue of sporadic title defenses has also been a problem in previous reigns on the main roster including as U.S. Champion and Intercontinental Champion.
Knight is 42 years old, an age when many wrestlers would be looking at winding down in the ring. Reflecting on his long journey to the top, Knight acknowledged having doubts in the past.
“It was only a few years ago I thought my career was never going to go anywhere. I thought my career was kind of nearing its end and here I am all of a sudden, just taking off. All of a sudden, just with the United States Champion not once, but twice.”
Rather than nearing its end, LA Knight’s career continues to blossom with a second U.S. title reign to his name. With WrestleMania 41 approaching, fans can expect big things from the Megastar, including a potential title match at the Showcase of the Immortals.
