Saudi Arabia to Host 2026 WWE Royal Rumble (Report)

0

The 2026 WWE Royal Rumble is reportedly set to take place in Saudi Arabia, marking a significant international milestone for the iconic event. According to PWInsider, the deal has been finalized, and an official announcement could come as early as this Monday during the premiere of Raw on Netflix.

WWE is currently in the midst of a 10-year partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, an agreement slated to run through 2028. This collaboration has resulted in 12 premium live events, two television tapings in the region, and the creation of the WWE Experience, a themed attraction.

Financially, the partnership has been highly lucrative, with WWE reportedly earning $50 million per event in Saudi Arabia, per SES reports. Turki Al-Sheikh, chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority, recently revealed to ESPN that discussions are ongoing to enhance the deal. Al-Sheikh highlighted Saudi Arabia’s interest in hosting major events like WrestleMania or the Royal Rumble as part of these negotiations.

Meanwhile, the 2025 Royal Rumble is scheduled for Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Rock Awarded Nearly $14 Million Worth Of TKO Stock

0

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson closed out 2024 on a high note, as a new SEC filing released Friday night revealed he was awarded 96,557 Class A shares of TKO stock on December 31. The award stems from an arrangement made upon his return to WWE in late January 2024, when he joined the TKO Board of Directors.

As part of his January return, Johnson also gained full intellectual property (IP) ownership of “The Rock” name and other character-related trademarks. The December stock allotment holds a present-day value of $13,749,716.80. This represents half of a total grant of 193,115 restricted stock units he was awarded on January 23, 2024. The remaining shares will be distributed in monthly installments throughout 2025.

According to the filing, Johnson currently owns 289,673 TKO shares, valued at over $41 million. Nearly 97,000 of those shares were earned following his appearance on the first night of WrestleMania 40 earlier in 2024.

While The Rock has not appeared on WWE programming since October’s WWE Bad Blood, speculation is rife that he may feature in the debut episode of Raw on Netflix next week. However, this has yet to be confirmed.

Liv Morgan Gives A Tour Of Her Florida Farm

0

WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan recently appeared on Entertainment Tonight, where she offered fans a glimpse into her life outside the ring, including a tour of her Florida farm. Morgan revealed that she owns seven-and-a-quarter acres of land, home to a variety of animals: five chickens, two cows, a pig, two cats, and two dogs.

When asked about her love for animals, Morgan expressed her lifelong compassion for them, noting that maintaining her farm is both fulfilling and enjoyable. “I’ve always loved animals,” Morgan shared. “Having this farm allows me to connect with them in a meaningful way.”

The tour also included a peek inside her home, where Morgan showcased her closet and her private wrestling ring. The ring is a unique feature that highlights her dedication to her craft, even in her personal space.

Morgan’s farm life provides a stark contrast to her high-energy persona in WWE, giving fans a more grounded and personal look at the champion outside of the squared circle. Morgan also shared a picture of one of her cows on Twitter, as seen below:

Morgan will defend the WWE Women’s World Championship against Rhea Ripley at the WWE Raw on Netflix premiere next Monday.

WrestleMania 41 Plans Take Shape for John Cena, Cody Rhodes, and The Rock

0

As WrestleMania 41 draws closer, WWE is laying out plans for marquee matchups featuring some of its biggest names—John Cena, Cody Rhodes, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Here’s what fans can expect in Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium this April.

John Cena Vs. Cody Rhodes

WrestleMania 41 will be John Cena’s last chance to compete at WWE’s biggest annual event, and Cena could be going out with a bang against Cody Rhodes. Both PW Insider and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter have reported that Cena Vs. Rhodes is the plan for April.

This match will give Cena a chance to become a 17-time WWE World Champion, breaking the record of 16 he shares with Ric Flair. Rhodes has held onto the Undisputed WWE Championship since WrestleMania 40, where he ended the 1,316-day reign of Roman Reigns.

The Rock’s Possible Appearance

Though a role is yet to be publicly confirmed, The Rock is expected to participate in WrestleMania 41 in some capacity. Original plans calling for The Rock Vs. Cody Rhodes appears to have been scrapped given that the American Nightmare will be tied up with John Cena.

With Rhodes off the table, Rock’s WrestleMania 41 journey could finally see him collide with Roman Reigns. The long-awaited match was at one time a ‘lock’ for WrestleMania 39 before WWE decided to go in a different direction. The Rock appeared at WWE Bad Blood 2024 after the show’s main event, teasing that his issues with Reigns and Rhodes are far from over.

While WWE’s plans are always subject to change, fan excitement and speculation continue to grow for WrestleMania 41, which will take place on April 19, and April 20. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on WrestleMania 40

Big Boom AJ Reveals Target Date For AEW In-Ring Return

0

Costco Guy AJ Befumo, also known as Big Boom AJ, is gearing up for an in-ring return with AEW after making his promotional debut a few months ago. Befumo’s first AEW bout, a showdown with QT Marshall, took place at the AEW Full Gear pay-per-view at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. The match featured dramatic outside interference from Paul Wight and Aron Solo, with Solo distracting QT Marshall and subsequently getting laid out. As the referee’s attention was diverted, Big Justice (Eric Befumo) delivered a spear to QT, setting the stage for AJ to secure the victory with a powerbomb.

Befumo and his son Big Justice, who wrestled alongside him, recently spoke to Cultaholic about plans for their next AEW appearance. According to the duo, AJ’s next match is tentatively scheduled for the AEW Revolution pay-per-view in March.

“He’s going to wrestle in March,” Big Justice told Cultaholic. “We’re looking at—talking to the AEW team—it looks like I’ll be at Revolution in March,” Befumo confirmed. “That’s what we’re gunning for right now. Maybe an appearance before that, but that’s the plan.”

AEW Revolution is set to take place at Crypto.com Arena (formerly the Staples Center) in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 9.

Before achieving social media fame, AJ Befumo worked on the independent wrestling scene. He and his son gained widespread recognition as the “Costco Guys” on platforms like TikTok, where they documented their visits to the wholesale retailer and rated products from its food court. Their unique blend of humor and relatability helped the father-and-son duo transition from influencers to professional wrestlers in AEW.

NXT Level Up to Be Replaced by New Show, NXT Evolve

0

NXT Level Up is set to be replaced by a new program titled NXT Evolve, which is expected to debut in the coming months. This fresh addition to WWE programming will focus on showcasing developmental talent who are not regularly featured on NXT.

The show will be taped for TV and streaming platforms and is described as a project led by Gabe Sapolsky, according to the Wrestling Observer.

NXT Level Up, which premiered in February 2022 as a replacement for 205 Live, was a WWE streaming show that featured younger performers from the NXT brand division. The series, which aired its final episode on December 27, 2024.

WWE LFG

In addition to NXT Evolve, WWE is also launching a new show called WWE LFG (Legends & Future Greats), a new competition series set to debut on A&E in early 2025 that will showcase rising talent vying for a WWE contract while being mentored by WWE legends.

Gabe Sapolsky and WWE

Sapolsky, a veteran of the wrestling industry, brings years of experience to the table. He joined WWE in 2018 and recently played a key role in launching the company’s ID program, designed to streamline the process for independent wrestlers to join WWE.

Before his WWE tenure, Sapolsky made his mark as the founder of EVOLVE Wrestling, a promotion known for its focus on in-ring action and talent development.

EVOLVE developed a close relationship with WWE, culminating in its acquisition in 2020. Sapolsky’s booking expertise was honed through his time as head booker for Ring of Honor from 2002 to 2008, where he helped elevate numerous future WWE stars.

With the Performance Center, the NIL and WWE ID programs, WWE NXT and now NXT Evolve, it’s very apparent that the company sees talent development as a top priority in the coming years.

Ranking CM Punk’s Best (and Worst) Matches of 2024

0

On November 25, 2023, the wrestling world was set abuzz once again as former WWE Champion and more recent AEW World Champion CM Punk made a shocking return to his former promotion, WWE, in his hometown of Chicago, IL. The WWE Universe rejoiced at the return of the Second City Saint, who hadn’t been officially seen on WWE programming since almost a decade prior. In addition, given the body of work Punk presented in AEW, fans were confident that the 45-year-old still had plenty of gas left in the tank, with fans fawning over the endless possible feuds and stories that the ring-veteran could tell.

Despite the immense hype and excitement surrounding his return to the WWE ring, CM Punk’s in-ring action was abruptly cut short when he suffered a right triceps tear during the Royal Rumble event in early 2024. This news devastated many WWE fans, as their hopes for Punk’s return at WrestleMania, including a highly rumored one-on-one match with then-World Champion Seth Rollins, were dashed. Before this injury, Punk had only competed in two matches—both against Dominik Mysterio, one of which took place during the company’s Holiday Tour at Madison Square Garden. Ultimately, Fans barely got a taste of CM Punk before he was taken away from them.

While 2024 could have been remembered as a painful year for him, given its rocky start, hindsight shows that this perception could not be further from the truth. Despite competing in only five televised matches in 2024, CM Punk made the year memorable thanks to a combination of impressive storytelling and strong dance partners.

With that being said, let’s Rank Every “Televised” (Don’t want to make the diehards angry on technicalities) CM Punk Match of 2024.

#5: 2024 Royal Rumble

Ironically enough, the first match on this list was CM Punk’s first in-ring match in 2024, the bout that would ultimately put Punk on the shelf for 7-months.

The 2024 Royal Rumble served as an odd full-circle moment for CM Punk; after all, it was the 2014 Royal Rumble that served as the backdrop for Punk’s final match in WWE before leaving the company in a heap of controversy. Now, with tons of hype and momentum, Punk entered the match as not only a favorite but one of the favorites to win the whole thing potentially. Entering the Rumble at #27, Punk lasted over 20 minutes and eliminated Dominik Mysterio and Drew McIntyre before being ultimately eliminated by the bout’s eventual winner, The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes.

All in all, the moment should be remembered as a major triumpth for the former World Champion; however, instead, it’s remembered as a largely forgettable night in-ring wise, paired with a devastating reality following the final bell. Even before sustaining his injury, Punk’s performance in-ring wise was largely just “okay”, a stark contrast from what fans had seen from his recent run in AEW.

Of course, much respect and latitude should be afforded to Punk. Despite his injury, he forged on and finished the match like the true professional he is, playing his part in helping secure the strong finish. The anguish he expressed by Punk during Rhodes’ celebration seemed incredibly authentic to fans who were watching; little did we know at the time that it was all too real.

In conclusion, while the Royal Rumble match is ranked last (despite us talking about it first. What can we say? Rankings are weird sometimes), the setback of the event would eventually propel Punk forward into a masterful program with Drew McIntyre as the year went on.

For the most part, the 2024 Survivor Series PLE was quite solid. Although the WWE Universe’s enthusiasm for the War Games stipulation may be starting to fade, both the Men’s and Women’s bouts were received well and delivered strong matches.

While the overarching storyline of The Original Bloodline vs. The New Bloodline was the main focus, a significant side quest emerged with the inclusion of CM Punk in the match. Punk not only inserted himself into the tribal conflict but did so with the help of his former Wiseman, Paul Heyman. He made it clear that his involvement was out of respect for Heyman, much to the apparent disgust of Roman Reigns. Much like Vito Corleone at the beginning of “The Godfather,” CM Punk emphasized that his assistance wouldn’t come without strings attached, indicating he would be calling in an ambiguous “favor” at some point in the future.

This match is ranked #4 not because of a lack of quality, but rather due to the strength of the three preceding entries. While entertaining, Punk’s significance in the match was more about the storyline than the actual in-ring action. With seven other Superstars involved, it was challenging for Punk’s contributions to stand out in a meaningful way.

The most memorable moment in War Games didn’t come from executing a high-flying move but rather from Punk saving Roman Reigns from what would have been a devastating “Tsunami” delivered by Bronson Reed. Throughout the buildup and execution of the match, questions arose about Punk’s loyalty to his team and willingness to assist Reigns when it counted. Punk’s efforts to keep Reigns out of harm’s way not only helped secure the Original Tribal Chief’s victory over The New Bloodline but also laid the groundwork for a future clash between the two rivals.

#3: SummerSlam (Special Referee)

If you’re not a fan of the concept behind the 1993 classic “Groundhog Day,” then you might not find the rest of this article particularly appealing. The next three matches feature the same opponent: the Scottish Warrior, Drew McIntyre. Though fans often claim they dislike repetitive matches, a well-crafted trilogy every now and then can be enjoyable. (Except when it’s a Disney remake—I’ll save my complaints about Star Wars for another time.)

First, let’s discuss CM Punk’s return to the ring following his serious injury earlier that year, as he squared off against the man who put him out of action at The Biggest Party of the Summer. Adding complexity to the match was Seth Rollins’s role as Special Guest Referee; he had no love for either competitor, especially not for CM Punk.

As mentioned earlier, this was Punk’s first match since the Royal Rumble, although it wasn’t his first appearance on WWE TV. Throughout the Spring and Summer, Punk and McIntyre had been embroiled in an all-out war—on the mic, behind the scenes, and on social media. This feud began when McIntyre openly celebrated injuring Punk, delivering the now-famous line, “I prayed for this, and it happened,” which turned him into one of the biggest heels in professional wrestling.

From that point, the intensity only escalated. Punk vowed to sabotage McIntyre’s success, costing him the World Championship at WrestleMania 40 to a cash-in by Damian Priest, as well as his rematch at Clash at the Castle and his Money In The Bank cash-in opportunity. Eventually, Punk’s wife and beloved dog became targets for McIntyre, who even stole a cherished, fan-made bracelet that held the names of Punk’s loved ones. (Admittedly, that sounds odd when you write it down, but somehow it worked—such is wrestling!)

The match itself, as echoed by many, was not a technical classic by any means. Instead, it resembled two competitors who loathed each other, determined to inflict pain, with Seth Rollins’s antics adding a layer of chaos. A pivotal moment in the match occurred when Rollins picked up the fallen bracelet and donned it on his own wrist. This act infuriated Punk, directing his focus toward Rollins, ultimately allowing McIntyre to capitalize and secure the victory.

Like his role in Survivor Series: War Games, this match was less about technical prowess and more about the ongoing narrative between Punk and McIntyre—a continuation of a brutal rivalry that was far from over while also planting seeds for a future storyline with Rollins. Overall, the match told a compelling story and provided an engaging experience from bell to bell. More importantly, Punk showed that his injury did not inhibit his ability to put on a great performance.

#2: Bash in Berlin – Strap Match

CM Punk and Drew McIntyre’s sequel to their strong SummerSlam match was arguably better than the first, as the two men participated in a Stab Match at WWE’s Berlin PLE.

The irony of the two blood rivals being forcibly connected is elegant poetry when you think about it. While they desired nothing more than to bludgeon each other, they needed to stay close so that each could attempt to tap the ringposts and secure a victory. The duo found numerous ways to use the match’s stipulation to elevate the match, rather than just treating it as a backdrop.

The match began with competitors trying everything they could to hurt one another. However, they eventually realized that completely obliterating the other would only make victory more difficult. This realization forced both to figuratively – and at times literally – carry one another to each ring post during almost every attempt to win. Ultimately, a trio of GTS moves led to Punk’s eventual victory, earning him both a significant win in front of a fired-up Berlin crowd and his beloved bracelet back.

#1 Bad Blood – Hell in a Cell

To the surprise of no one, CM Punk and Drew McIntyre’s epic encounter inside Hell in a Cell at Bad Blood is undoubtedly CM Punk’s best match of 2024. It may also be one of the best Hell in a Cell matches the WWE Universe has seen in over a decade.

The bloody affair was an epic from start to finish, as both men—much like in their Stap Match—utilized their stipulation beautifully (as beautiful as one could be inside Hell in a Cell). While at times the Cell becomes nothing more than a big chainlink box, competitors occasionally use it to their advantage. However, Punk and McIntyre fully embraced the cell and the barbaric atmosphere of the match.

Simply put, the match was everything one could have asked for. It featured unrivaled brutality, dynamic use of the Hell in a Cell itself, and a creative and satisfying finish. If you were seeking a great match, you got it. If you wanted a strong conclusion to an almost year-long storyline, you got that too. And if you wanted both? Boy howdy, were you in luck!

If you use ratings as your benchmark for great matches, then this one will certainly meet your expectations! The bout received a 5-star rating from Dave Meltzer, which is a rare achievement for WWE matches.

The final clash between Punk and McIntyre was a contender for Match of the Year in WWE, showcasing Punk’s ability to tell a compelling story while holding his own against younger and more agile talent. Much of the credit also goes to Drew McIntyre, who effectively played the role of a brutal villain in WWE and delivered an impressive performance both inside and outside the ring.

What’s Next For CM Punk in 2025?

While discussions of World Championship matches and WrestleMania main events top the lists of CM Punk fans, he must first overcome an old rival, Seth “Freakin'” Rollins, at WWE’s first Monday Night RAW on Netflix on January 6th.

Originally scheduled for WrestleMania 40, a match between CM Punk and Seth Rollins has been a highly anticipated showdown for many fans. Their recent exchange during the final edition of Monday Night RAW on the USA Network added a new layer of intensity to their rivalry by blending reality and fiction. Seth Rollins still holds a grudge against Punk for his departure from WWE in 2014; he accuses Punk of launching a campaign to defame his colleagues and WWE itself. In response, Punk defended himself by reminding Rollins of the circumstances at the time, stating that leaving WWE was the only way to enact change. Now that he’s back, Punk emphasizes that he focuses on changing the culture and”making money, not friends.”

At the age of 46, CM Punk’s popularity is rivaling the heights he reached during “The Summer of Punk” in 2011. His in-ring performance remains strong, and WWE has numerous opportunities to utilize him both as a competitor and as a backstage mentor for up-and-coming talent.

Punk has transformed from a renegade pushing for change in a company led by someone staunchly opposed to it to a collaborative figure working with company leadership to shape the present and future of WWE. Ultimately, this is what CM Punk has always wanted: to be recognized as a valuable contributor whose thoughts and ideas matter. It seems that present-day WWE, now managed by a man he once despised, provides the ideal environment for CM Punk.

Omos Set For More NOAH Shows As WWE Hiatus Enters 9th Month

0

Fans can expect to see much more of Omos in Pro Wrestling NOAH, following his victory at New Year 2025. At the January 1, event, Omos won the GHC Tag Titles with Jack Morris, making the Nigerian Giant the first active WWE Superstar to win NOAH gold.

Find Out More About Omos’ Historic Championship Win

Yesterday, January 2, Omos was in action once again as he, Morris, and Yu Owada defeated El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., Galeno Del Mal & Saxon Huxley. Now, NOAH has confirmed that Omos will be in action at least three more times in January 2025.

This schedule is certainly different than what fans have seen of Omos in WWE, or rather, what they’ve not seen. The former Raw Tag Team Champion has not been used on TV since April 2024, when he competed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Omos’ most recent singles match on TV saw him earn a squash win in May 2023.

The Undertaker Shares Praise & Bold Vision For Omos In WWE

Omos has his supporters in WWE, but there’s no word on any plans for his return to the largest wrestling promotion on the planet. In the meantime, the GHC Tag Team Champion will continue to represent WWE in NOAH, where he’s quickly become a featured attraction.

WWE Stars Share Their Greatest Raw Moments As Netflix Move Nears

0

WWE Monday Night Raw is mere days away from debuting on Netflix, in possibly the biggest change to WWE programming in history. Ahead of the historic January 6, 2025, event, some of WWE’s top names shared their greatest Raw moments:

John Cena: Hour-Long Showdown With Shawn Michaels.

Considered one of the best Raw matches in history, John Cena and Shawn Michaels battled for an hour in London during the April 23, 2007, show. Though Cena didn’t win, the match, which had fans on the edge of their seats, remains a highlight of his WWE career.

Sean Waltman: Defeating Razor Ramon

The 1-2-3 Kid’s win over Razor Ramon was Raw’s first big upset, but would hardly be the last. Over three decades later, Waltman’s shocking victory over his Kliq ally is an all-time Raw classic.

Mick Foley: First WWE Championship Win

Mankind’s historic win over The Rock in January 1999 didn’t just see Mick Foley win the big one, but also a notable shift in the Monday Night War. Tony Schiavone on Nitro spoiled the result, mockingly adding “That’ll put butts in seats,” only to see hundreds of thousands of fans switch from WCW programming to Raw.

Randy Orton: Home Invasion By Triple H

Randy Orton made his feud personal with Triple H in 2009 by RKO’ing Stephanie McMahon and sealing his dastardly deed with a kiss. On the March 9, show, Triple H showed he could make things personal as he invaded Orton’s home, culminating in throwing the Viper through a window.

R-Truth: First WWE U.S. Title win

Over a year before they’d be ‘Awesome’ allies, R-Truth defeated The Miz in May 2010 to win his first U.S. Championship. The win “meant the world” to the veteran Truth, who wanted to show “people like me, that they can do it too.”

Rey Mysterio: Eddie Guerrero Tribute Show

Mere days after the tragic passing of Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio competed on the November 14, 2005, Raw where he battled Shawn Michaels. Mysterio was not “in the best state of mind” but is pleased he was able to deliver with HBK on such an emotional night.

Carlito: First Night Title Win

In 2004, Carlito made his WWE debut on SmackDown by winning the U.S. Title in his first match from John Cena. The following year, Carlito would prove this was no fluke by defeating Shelton Benjamin to win the Intercontinental Championship in his first match after being drafted to Raw.

Big E: Dethroning Bobby Lashley

After years of speculation and fan support, Big E finally became WWE Champion in September 2021, cashing in Money in the Bank on Bobby Lashley. Though Big E’s in-ring future remains uncertain, winning WWE’s richest prize on Raw is a pivotal moment for the Superstar’s career.

Fans can look forward to many more iconic moments from Raw once the red brand debuts on Netflix. Stay tuned to SEScoops for all the latest from WWE’s big move as a new era on the streaming juggernaut continues to draw near.

Mercedes Moné Shares Illness Struggles The Day of AEW Worlds End

0

Mercedes Moné successfully retained her AEW TBS Championship at Worlds End, but Kris Statlander wasn’t the CEO’s only battle on the night. In the latest edition of her Moné Mag newsletter, Mercedes shared that in the days running up to the show, she was dealing with exhaustion and “the lingering effects of a relentless illness.”

The day of the show, Moné felt even worse, raising questions backstage as to whether she’d be able to compete.

“I reached out to my doctor for advice on managing my illness, and on the day of the event, I was terrified about how I would make it through the show.”

Moné was seen to by her Boston’s Vital Care team, who provided her with an IV bag before she made it to the arena. Thankfully, Moné was able to make it through the match, which she chalked up to her own adrenaline as well as “renewed energy” from Statlander.

Despite her illness, Moné and Statlander delivered a show-stealing performance. At nearly 25 minutes, the match became the longest women’s match in AEW history, breaking the previous record set by the same pair at Full Gear 2024. Once again, Moné emerged victorious.

The year 2024 was a monumental one for Mercedes Mone. Within just 12 months, she joined AEW and became a double champion, cementing her legacy in professional wrestling. As The CEO continues to reign as TBS Champion, fans eagerly anticipate what she will achieve in 2025.

WWE Cuts Back Live Events, First Show Set For March 2025

0

WWE has implemented a significant change to its business operations by halting its usual live events for the first few months of 2025. According to the current schedule, no live events are planned for January or February. The first untelevised show of the year is slated for March 15 in Dortmund, Germany, as part of WWE’s upcoming European tour, which includes live events and TV tapings across various countries.

Find Out More On WWE’s Upcoming Tour Of Europe

According to Sean Ross Sapp, talent that he has spoken to from WWE “are very happy” that there are no house shows until mid-March.

In late 2024, TKO President Mark Shapiro shared that WWE planned on cutting back on the number of untelevised events. Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Technology Conference, Shapiro explained that such events are only marginally profitable and not essential for the company’s brand growth.

“The WWE brand, while we still have to grow it, it’s on fire right now. We don’t need to carry these marginally profitable events.”

WWE has not yet announced its live event schedule for the post-WrestleMania 41 season, leaving fans curious about the possibility of untelevised events in their areas. Stay tuned to SEScoops for updates as WWE continues to evolve its event strategy in this transformative period.

Cope Says Fans Will Struggle with John Cena’s Retirement

0

John Cena’s retirement tour is set to begin in just a few days, with several dates already confirmed and culminating in December 2025. The WWE icon will begin his farewell during WWE Raw’s debut on Netflix, with fans excited to see what the 16-time World Champion has in store.

Few opponents are as closely associated with Cena as Cope (formerly Adam Copeland/Edge), who shared countless battles with him during their storied WWE careers. In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Cope shared his reflections on Cena’s retirement.

“He’s an intelligent man, so, I’m sure he has already come to terms, and I think he’s been coming to terms with it for a long time.”

While Cena may have accepted his retirement, Cope believes it will be far more difficult for fans to do the same.

“I think it’ll be harder for the fan base to come to terms, which usually ends up being the case.”

Several wrestlers have already expressed their desire to be part of Cena’s farewell tour. CM Punk has voiced interest in teaming up with Cena one last time, while The Miz hopes to secure a rematch after headlining WrestleMania 27. Bron Breakker is ready to defend his Intercontinental championship against the WWE legend, targeting one of the few accolades Cena has yet to achieve—the Grand Slam.

Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on John Cena’s farewell from in-ring action, as WWE is bound to give one of its biggest stars a proper sendoff.

Axiom Dreams of Wrestling in Spain During WWE’s Upcoming Visit

0

WWE NXT Tag Team Champion Axiom is hoping to get in the ring when WWE returns to Spain later this year. Speaking with Vicente Beltrán of ViBe & Sports, Axiom, a Madrid native, recalled watching WWE live in his own country in 2006.

“I remember watching Rey Mysterio and hoping he would call me to the ring to help because Khali & Finlay were cheating a lot.”

Now, Axiom doesn’t need Mysterio’s permission to get into the ring, but hopes WWE grants him the opportunity to compete in his home country.

“It would mean a lot to me, as someone from Vallecas in Madrid who joined WWE and is an NXT Tag Champion, and it would be a full-circle moment for me. It would be me telling that kid to put a mask on, and he would meet his idols.”

WWE will visit Spain in March 2025, with WWE SmackDown scheduled to take place at the Olimpic Arena in Badalona. The show will be WWE’s first TV taping in Spain and part of a tour of Europe during the road to WrestleMania.

WWE Road To WrestleMania 41 Tour Coming to Europe in March

In the meantime, Axiom and Nathan Frazer are continuing to dominate NXT, and were recently named Tag Team of the Year during the 2024 Year-End Awards. They will be challenged by OTM (Bronco Nima & Lucien Price) who earned a shot at the Tag Team Champions last month.

Janel Grant to amend lawsuit against Vince McMahon, according to filings

0

Attorneys for Janel Grant are amending her lawsuit against World Wrestling Entertainment, Vince McMahon and former WWE executive John Laurinaitis.

Ann Callis, an attorney for Grant, sent an email to plantiffs’ counsel on Dec. 16 stating they would be amending the lawsuit by Jan. 15. The email was included in an exhibit filed with a motion for status conference made on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Grant filed her initial complaint against McMahon, WWE and Laurinaitis in January 2024. The case was placed in a stay in May for six months at the request of federal prosecutors. According to the Wall Street Journal, McMahon has been under investigation of a federal grand jury in Manhattan for sex assault, rape and sex trafficking.

In an interview with SEScoops in November, Callis said other women had come forward since Grant filed her lawsuit. She said attorneys were vetting several women and could amend Grant’s suit to include other alleged victims.

McMahon and his wife Linda, who is expected to be Donald Trump’s nominee for the Department of Education post with the Cabinet, were sued in October by five alleged survivors of the 1980s WWF Ring Boy Scandal in Maryland. The civil suit is currently on hold while the Maryland Supreme Court considers whether a state law voiding statute of limitations regarding negligence in sex assault cases is constitutional.

Attorneys for McMahon re-filed his motion on Dec. 23 to appeal the Grant case to arbitration, per the non-disclosure agreement Grant and McMahon signed.

Ric Flair was originally scheduled to make a cameo appearance at this Saturday’s AEW Collision event at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, NC. However, according to a report by PWInsider.com, those plans have changed, and Flair is no longer expected to attend.

Instead, AEW has tapped local wrestling legends Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, better known as The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express, to appear at the event. The report also noted that the duo is slated to make additional appearances at future AEW events in the coming weeks.

Flair joined AEW in 2023, debuting as Tony Khan’s surprise gift to Sting ahead of Sting’s retirement at the Revolution pay-per-view. His appearances in AEW have been tied to a sponsorship deal with Wooooo Energy, which funded his involvement. This arrangement mirrors a similar sponsorship model used by WCW with Randy Savage in the 1990s. Since Revolution, Flair has not been featured on AEW programming.

Card for Saturday’s AEW Collision:

  • TNT Championship: Daniel Garcia (c) vs. Mark Briscoe
  • AEW Tag Team Championship: Private Party (Brother Zay & Marq Quen) (c) vs. Lio Rush & Action Andretti
  • Toni Storm vs. Deonna Purrazzo
  • Rated FTR (Cope, Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) vs. The Learning Tree (Chris Jericho, Big Bill & Bryan Keith)
  • Jeff Jarrett in action
  • The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express to appear

Although Flair’s cameo has been removed from the lineup, the inclusion of The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express continues the show’s nod to wrestling history, especially given Charlotte’s deep wrestling roots.

WWE Planning Ring Announcing Shake-Up

0

Alicia Taylor is set to become the new ring announcer for WWE Raw as the company reshuffles its announcer lineup for Raw and SmackDown. The announcement comes ahead of Raw’s debut on Netflix, which will premiere next Monday from the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.

According to a report by PWInsider.com, Taylor, who previously served as the ring announcer for SmackDown, will officially transition to Raw beginning with the Netflix premiere. Taylor joined WWE in 2018 and was promoted to SmackDown in May 2024, where she has been a prominent presence ever since.

Meanwhile, Lilian Garcia will return as SmackDown’s ring announcer starting this Friday night and is expected to remain in that role going forward. Garcia took over ring announcing duties on Raw in October following Samantha Irvin’s departure from WWE. A veteran of the company, Garcia originally worked for WWE from 1999 to 2009 and again from 2011 to 2016, with occasional appearances in the years since.

This Friday’s episode of SmackDown, emanating from the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, marks another significant change as the show extends to three hours.

Ric Flair Thinks He Has One More Match In Him

0

Ric Flair wrestled his final match on July 31, 2022, teaming up with his son-in-law, Andrade El Idolo, to defeat Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett. The bout, billed as Flair’s retirement match, drew concern from fans due to Flair’s age and his health condition, including the presence of a pacemaker. These concerns intensified during the match, as Flair’s performance appeared to be hindered.

Flair later attributed his struggles in the match to dehydration caused by a strict diet and weight management routine during his preparation. Despite this, Flair remains confident in his ability to step back into the ring. Appearing on the Five Star Podcast, Flair was asked whether he thought he could still compete in a match. His response: “Hell yeah, I do.”

Flair joined AEW in 2023, debuting as Tony Khan’s surprise gift to Sting ahead of Sting’s retirement at the Revolution pay-per-view. Flair expressed that he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to join AEW and be part of Sting’s farewell journey.

Since the Revolution event, Flair has not appeared on AEW programming. According to Tony Khan, Flair’s appearances were tied to a sponsorship deal with Wooooo Energy, a brand that has paid AEW for each of Flair’s appearances. This arrangement echoes a similar deal Randy Savage had with WCW in the mid-1990s, leveraging sponsorship to fund his participation in the promotion.

While Flair’s in-ring career appears to have concluded, his presence in AEW highlights his enduring connection to the wrestling world and his ability to draw attention and excitement, even in a non-wrestling capacity.

Will WWE RAW Ratings Still be available after Netflix move?

0

WWE RAW’s move to Netflix in January 2025 has sparked questions about the future of ratings for the popular wrestling show. As part of a 10-year, $5 billion deal, RAW will transition from traditional cable to the streaming giant, potentially changing how viewership is measured and reported.

Netflix’s Approach to Ratings

Netflix has historically been tight-lipped about viewership data, rarely sharing detailed information about show performance. However, recent developments suggest a potential shift in this stance:

  • Netflix has partnered with VideoAmp to provide advertisers with cross-screen and live viewership measurement for WWE content.
  • The streaming service will work with Nielsen to track ratings for its NFL Christmas Day broadcasts, indicating openness to third-party measurement for live programming.

Potential Sources of WWE RAW Ratings

While traditional Nielsen ratings may not be available, there are several potential avenues for gauging RAW’s performance on Netflix:

  • VideoAmp Data: The partnership with VideoAmp could provide advertisers with viewership figures, which may become public.
  • Netflix Top 10: RAW could appear in Netflix’s global top 10 list, offering insight into its performance relative to other content on the platform.
  • Internal Netflix Data: The company might choose to release internal viewership data, as it did for the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing event.

Impact on Wrestling Industry

The potential lack of traditional ratings could significantly impact how wrestling performance is measured and discussed:

  • Industry Analysis: Wrestling journalists and analysts may need to adapt to new metrics for evaluating show success.
  • Fan Engagement: The wrestling community might shift focus from weekly ratings to other indicators of popularity.
  • Advertiser Relations: New measurement tools will be crucial for WWE to demonstrate RAW’s value to advertisers on Netflix.

Future of WWE Content on Netflix

While ratings remain uncertain, other aspects of WWE’s move to Netflix are becoming clearer:

  • Content Rating: WWE has confirmed that RAW will maintain its family-friendly PG rating, dispelling rumors of a shift to more mature content.
  • Global Expansion: Outside the US, Netflix will offer additional WWE content, including SmackDown, NXT, and pay-per-view events.
  • Potential for Original Content: There are indications that Netflix and WWE may collaborate on exclusive content in the future.

As WWE enters this new era with Netflix, the landscape of wrestling viewership measurement is set to evolve. While traditional ratings may become a thing of the past, new metrics and data sources are likely to emerge, offering fresh insights into RAW’s performance in the streaming age.

Unforgettable Superstar Entrances

Chris Jericho’s Millennium Countdown

Jericho’s witty exchange with The Rock immediately established him as a force to be reckoned with on the microphone.

The Original ECW Invasion

In 1997, ECW made waves by “invading” Raw, introducing WWE audiences to future stars like Rob Van Dam, Sabu, and Tazz.

This unexpected crossover helped elevate ECW’s profile and laid the groundwork for future inter-promotional storylines.

Game-Changing Moments

The First Brand Extension Draft

The landscape of WWE dramatically shifted on March 25, 2002, with the first-ever Brand Extension Draft

This event split the roster between Raw and SmackDown, creating distinct identities for each show and opening up new storytelling possibilities.

R-Truth on Making Brock Lesnar Laugh, Health Scares and Longevity

0

WWE’s R-Truth, known for his infectious humor and unwavering energy, sat down with Chris Van Vliet on Insight to share his thoughts on his career, personal life, and some of his most iconic moments in wrestling. In his signature style, R-Truth brought both laughs and introspection, offering fans a glimpse into the man behind the legendary character.

On Aging and Staying Relevant

One of the most striking moments of the interview was R-Truth’s perspective on aging and staying relevant in an ever-evolving industry.

“Daniel Bryan always said this: I don’t have a [time]. Time just doesn’t exist to me. I feel like we have to make time for time,” he said. “We have time to adapt, evolve, create. We have time to make time.”

Truth emphasized the importance of constant reinvention, both in wrestling and in life. “You have to evolve with everything. Musically, theatrically, visually—everything changes. If you keep up, you won’t age out.”

Making Brock Lesnar Laugh

A highlight of R-Truth’s career came during a backstage segment with Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar, which quickly became legendary among fans for Lesnar’s unexpected reaction.

“Paul Heyman told me, ‘We’ve got a bet going on that you can make Brock laugh,’” R-Truth revealed. The segment was entirely improvised, with even Lesnar unaware of what was going to happen. The result? Lesnar famously broke character in front of a live audience.

“That was the most impromptu thing—it came off like sliced bread. It was just great.”

Health Scare and Career Threat

In one of the most emotional parts of the interview, R-Truth opened up about a severe health scare that almost ended his career.

“I tore my quad tendon, but then they found five different bacteria—staph, MRSA, their cousins and kinfolks,” he explained. The infection was so severe that doctors warned he could lose his leg if it wasn’t controlled.

“I was on antibiotics that cost $4,700 a week. I had a PICC line for six weeks. Deep down, I was thinking I might never come back to this.”

Thankfully, R-Truth recovered, and he now feels healthier and stronger than ever, saying, “I’ve never felt as clear-headed and physically strong as I do now.”

On His Humor and Comedic Timing

R-Truth’s comedic genius is often celebrated by fans and peers alike, but he credits much of it to improvisation.

“I’ve always been funny. Most of the stuff I do comes on the fly,” he said. “Even in pre-tapes, I sometimes don’t tell anyone what I’m going to say because I don’t know myself. It’s just the moment—you ride the wave.”

From confusing Triple H with Tommaso Ciampa to his parody of John Cena, R-Truth consistently delivers memorable, laugh-out-loud moments. Even his infamous Royal Rumble ladder spot was inspired by a fan’s tweet, proving his knack for turning offbeat ideas into unforgettable TV.

On the 24/7 Championship and Little Jimmy

R-Truth’s run with the 24/7 Championship is a highlight for many fans, marked by outlandish segments and creative storytelling.

Recalling Drake Maverick’s real wedding being turned into a storyline, Truth said, “That was his real wedding. It was so funny. People loved it.”

And who could forget Little Jimmy, the invisible character embraced by fans to the point they started taking pictures with empty chairs? “As long as they went with it, I went with it,” Truth laughed.

Grateful and Focused

Wrapping up the interview, R-Truth reflected on what he values most in life. “My life, my family, and people,” he said simply. It’s this positive outlook, combined with his boundless creativity, that has endeared him to fans for decades.

As R-Truth continues to entertain and inspire, his commitment to evolving and staying true to himself remains a hallmark of his storied career. Whether he’s making Brock Lesnar laugh, embodying Little Jimmy, or performing splits in the ring, R-Truth proves that time, indeed, is what you make of it.

Adam ‘Cope’ Copeland Secures New Ring-Name With Trademark

0

Adam Copeland’s new ring name, “Cope,” is officially here to stay after the Rated-R Superstar filed a trademark for the moniker. Michael Dockins, known as the “gimmick attorney,” shared a photo on X of Cope holding paperwork that confirmed the name’s trademark status.

Cope debuted the name during this week’s AEW Dynamite: Fight For the Fallen, where he teamed with FTR to secure a victory against the Death Riders. This marks a significant shift for the former World Champion, who had spent decades competing as Edge in WWE and joined AEW under his real name in 2023.

The Fans Respond

While the new name represents a fresh chapter for the 51-year-old wrestling icon, it has sparked mixed reactions among fans. Many on social media criticized the change as unnecessary, with comparisons drawn to Vince McMahon’s tendency to shorten wrestler names in WWE.

The self-professed gimmick attorney, Dockins is no stranger to helping wrestlers secure ring names and other monikers. In the past, Dockins has worked with Kenny Omega and Mercedes Mone and helped Windham Rotunda trademark ‘Wyatt6’ in 2022.

Cope will be in action this Saturday on Collision, where he and FTR will take on Chris Jericho and the Learning Tree. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on Cope, as his new ring name is here to stay.
