Rey Mysterio “Getting Closer” To WWE In-Ring Return

0

A positive update has emerged regarding the status of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. According to a new report from PWInsiderElite.com, the legendary luchador is in the final stages of his recovery from a torn groin and is getting closer to making his return to the ring.

Mysterio has been out of action for the past five months, leaving a significant void on the SmackDown roster. Mysterio is expected to be at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, next week as part of the final process to be medically cleared for his return to in-ring competition. While he has not yet been officially cleared, this step indicates that he is on the verge of being able to compete again.

Mysterio suffered the torn groin injury during the weekend of WrestleMania 41 back in April. He had previously stated in interviews that he was hoping to be back in the ring by last month, suggesting that the recovery from the difficult injury may have taken slightly longer than initially anticipated.

Before he was sidelined, Mysterio was embroiled in a heated and personal feud on Friday Night SmackDown against Santos Escobar and the Legado Del Fantasma faction. While he has been away, his son, Dominik Mysterio, has continued his successful run on Monday Night Raw as the reigning Intercontinental Champion.

MLW FIGHTLAND Brings Championship Action to Dallas This Saturday

0

MLW FIGHTLAND arrives in Dallas this Saturday, September 13, featuring multiple championship matches and a highly anticipated debut at NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills, Texas. The event streams free on YouTube at 10pm ET and airs on beIN SPORTS.

World Heavyweight Champion Matt Riddle defends his title against Donovan Dijak in what promises to be their final confrontation. Riddle has held the championship since January, but Dijak has emerged as his most dangerous challenger. MLW President César Duran has declared this their definitive battle after previous encounters were marred by outside interference.

The vacant World Middleweight Championship will be decided when Templario faces Ikuro Kwon. The title became available after Místico’s departure, with controversy surrounding Kwon’s theft of the physical belt. Templario now seeks to restore honor to the championship.

Women’s World Featherweight Champion Shoko Nakajima puts her title on the line against the undefeated Yuki Kamifuku, who earned this opportunity after attacking the champion. The match represents a clash between two of Japan’s premier female wrestlers.

Violence takes center stage as Alex Hammerstone battles Matthew Justice in a Texas Death Match. Their rivalry intensified when Justice cost Hammerstone a title opportunity this summer.

We’ll also see Shotzi Blackheart back in action against Alejandra Quintanilla.

The evening’s most intriguing element is the debut of Don Gato, the mysterious figure teased by César Duran and Salina de la Renta. His intentions remain unclear as Dallas awaits his arrival.

Braun Strowman To Undergo Surgery For Broken Wrist

0

Former WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman has suffered another injury setback, but this time it happened outside of the wrestling ring. In a post on his social media, “The Monster Among Monsters” revealed that he has a broken wrist and will require surgery. The unfortunate injury comes at a time when Strowman is in the process of transitioning to his post-WWE career.

In a post to his Instagram story, Strowman first shared an X-ray image of his hand, which clearly showed a break. He followed that up with a post on his Instagram feed, where he explained the bizarre and painful circumstances that led to the injury. The powerhouse revealed that he broke his fifth metatarsal bone while trying to separate his two dogs during a fight. His hand got tangled in a collar during the altercation, leading to the break.

“Alright, so a lot of people wondering what happened. Unfortunately, my dogs got in a fight two days ago and while trying to break them up I got twisted up in the collar and broke the end of my fifth metatarsal off,” Strowman explained. “I have broken that bone probably five to six times throughout my life, so it’s very brittle and stuff in there. And this time it broke completely off so tomorrow morning, I’m going to see a specialist, because I have to have surgery. Lucky me. This put a dampering in my deer hunting.”

The injury comes just after the former champion had announced that he was focusing on a new alcohol venture and would be taking some time away from professional wrestling to focus on his personal life and other business opportunities. This broken wrist will now force him into an extended recovery period.

Strowman’s WWE tenure began in 2013, and he became a top star on the main roster, winning the Universal Championship, the Intercontinental Championship, and the Raw Tag Team Championships twice before being let go in 2020. He was later brought back only to be released from WWE again in May 2025 and has been outspoken about his feelings regarding his departure. Despite the injury, he still has his new television show, “Everything on the Menu with Braun Strowman,” set to premiere on the USA Network this fall.

Mark Shapiro, TKO and the Profits of Rage

0

Mark Shapiro, president and COO of TKO Group Holdings, treated his employees, shareholders and fans of his company’s two sports leagues – World Wrestling Entertainment and Ultimate Fighting Championship – to rare candor and a refreshing lack of euphemism during a teleconference with Goldman Sachs on Wednesday.

CEOs, executives, hedge fund pirates and private equity mutineers rarely find agreement with the truth, but Shapiro was in friendly company, speaking to likeminded peers at Goldman Sachs and those listening, just weeks after TKO secured multi-billion dollar deals with Paramount and ESPN for UFC’s entire rights package and for WWE’s PLEs, which will be part of ESPN’s recently released direct-to-consumer app.

Shapiro’s voice was bolstered with pride when he talked about plans for UFC Fight Night, and weekly WWE shows, to demand site fees from cities, like the company does for major shows.

“If you’re a St. Louis or a Des Moines and we’ve sold out both arenas and it’s broke records, you’re going to have to pay for us to come back to your town,” Shapiro said. “Or else we are taking it to another city.”

Sports leagues started doing this years ago, offering Super Bowls, March Madness, All-Star Weekends to the highest bidders. UFC and WWE followed. If you wanted a numbered PPV in your town, you had to get out the public money. If you wanted Royal Rumble or WrestleMania, some local “sports and event” organization signs away taxpayer dollars in hopes the cost of the site fees is offset by the fans coming to town and boosting the local economy.

Since TKO bought WWE, ticket prices exploded, along with site fees. If the local municipality is paying for the event, at least the local fans should get some of that money back in cheaper tickets, but that’s not the case. Thanks to new algorithms pushing the costs into the stratosphere, it has never been more expensive to attend anything. Even Vince McMahon, who was cutthroat as one could get, has nothing on Shapiro. TKO’s president told Goldman listeners McMahon kept ticket prices low in order to allow working and middle-class fans the ability to afford attending shows. Shapiro said that thinking is gone in the TKO-Nick Khan-Triple H era. Ticket prices are as high as they can place them.

TKO’s stock price nearly hit $200 a share today, doubling in around a year. They have more deals than a corner used car lot and billions in new streaming contracts across the industry in their two-front effort to monopolize the wrestling business and to imitate the NFL’s domination across media.

What more could TKO and Shapiro could ask for? Who cares.

Getting information on site fees paid by cities to leagues and companies is nearly impossible. The companies cite court precedent depending on the state, with a persistent argument that the public knowing how their tax dollars are being paid to TKO, NFL or other leagues puts those billion-dollar, bigger-than-God leagues and companies at a competitive disadvantage.

Shapiro said the new deals would likely lead to more money for some of TKO’s top stars. Shapiro mentioned Jon Jones and Conor McGregor, fighters who had received more than the usual take in UFC due to their drawing power. This would be the case for other fighters and wrestlers who showed their star-worthiness. Who knows if anything were shared if All-Elite Wrestling wasn’t around. The remarks didn’t sound promising for the two rosters overall.

For fans, it’s become much more expensive. Paramount will likely go through several rounds of price hikes. Coming out of the Skydance merger, new Paramount head David Ellison spent as much on UFC has he did on buying the network. That doesn’t include other deals with studios, Bari Weiss’s The Free Press which is rumored to occur soon and Activision for the rights for films based on the Call of Duty video games. There’s also the $16 million the company paid to President Donald Trump over an edited CBS interview with Kamala Harris that wasn’t actually edited and never went to court.

Watching Raw means a Netflix subscription. Watching NXT and Smackdown requires a cable provider CW and USA Network or a TV antenna for CW. ESPN DTC is $29.99 a month unless your cable provider has an early deal through carriage fees to allow subscribers to have access. One Twitter post estimated a monthly cost of $94 a month for WWE fans who want access to all its shows and products.

Nothing TKO is doing is anything that wasn’t done by companies, hedge funds or private equity firms years prior. General Electric and its legendary head Jack Welch pioneered this through the 80s and 90s through his retirement.

The idea is to not worry about making your customers happy (the fans), but making shareholders happy ($198 at close). During the 1970s, economist Milton Friedman popularized shareholder maximization theory, otherwise known as shareholder primacy. Friedman said companies had only one fiduciary duty – to maximize return to shareholders.

Telling the people who owned stock in the company that corporate focus should no longer be on customers, but on making them richer, unsurprisingly made the theory popular on Wall Street and in boardrooms. Within a few years, shareholder maximization was all the rage.

What’s this mean for WWE fans? Prepare to ride the snake. While McMahon always considered himself of a corporate raider in the guise of a Donald Trump or Gordon Gekko, he was the sole owner of his company and was by far the deciding shareholder when the company went public in the early 2000s. TKO has no such limitations in mind. McMahon would push deals or massive profit, even at the risk of not capably satisfying their partners (think Fox on Smackdown).

Maybe TKO’s stock rollercoaster will keep WWE and UFC honest about putting out a compelling product. Maybe that’s a good enough trade for having to pick and choose what providers you subscribe because that WWE Network and Peacock pricing is long gone. Maybe it won’t. The reality is UFC and WWE’s fandom is at the whim of Friedman.

How should that make fans feel? When General Electric giant Jack Welch retired, he gave an interview reflecting on his decision to push shareholder primacy all those years. In 2009, he called Friedman’s theory, “the dumbest idea in the world.”

The Rock’s “The Smashing Machine” Tracking For $20 Million Opening Weekend

0

The new A24 film “The Smashing Machine,” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, is on track for a successful opening weekend at the box office. According to a new report from Deadline, the R-rated drama is projected to open with around $20 million when it is released in theaters on October 3. This strong projection is the latest in a string of positive news for the film, which has been generating a great deal of awards season buzz since its premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

The film tells the real-life story of mixed-martial arts and UFC champion, Mark Kerr, with Johnson taking on the lead role. The report notes that the film’s “first choice is best with men over 25, followed by women over 25,” which is a key demographic for both A24 and Johnson’s fanbase. If the projection holds, “The Smashing Machine” will be the second-highest debut ever for the independent studio, just behind “Civil War,” which opened to $25.5 million.

The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation that lasted for over 15 minutes and brought Johnson to tears. The film’s director, Benny Safdie, also won the prestigious Silver Lion award for Best Director at the festival. The critical acclaim has continued to build since then, with the film currently holding an 80% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The projected opening weekend is on par with another R-rated film that Johnson starred in, 2013’s “Pain and Gain,” which also opened to $20.2 million. That film, which also starred Mark Wahlberg, went on to gross nearly $87.3 million worldwide. The film is set to open on a competitive weekend, just one week before the release of Disney’s “Tron: Ares.”

Also opening on October 3 are the horror film “Good Boy” and the erotic thriller “Bone Lake.” The strong tracking for “The Smashing Machine” in a crowded marketplace is a testament to the drawing power of both Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and the A24 brand. The success of “The Smashing Machine” is a major step in Johnson’s career as he continues to branch out into more serious, dramatic roles.

Natalya Wants Saraya Rematch Decade After Last WWE Showdown

0

Questions remain about Saraya’s in-ring future following her exit from AEW earlier this year. Now, Natalya, a familiar foe of the first-ever NXT Women’s Champion, is ready to step back in the ring with the Brit.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Natalya recalled her history with Saraya and openly invited her back for a rematch. Not only does Natalya want a rematch with the former Paige, but the Canadian believes the match would be one for the ages.

“I would love to have a match with you again. It would be a generational match—and I’d get your ass to the Dungeon—because we have unfinished business.”

Natalya and Saraya shared the ring dozens of times in WWE, both as allies and as opponents. Their most recent match as adversaries took place during the October 27, 2015, taping of WWE SmackDown, which saw Paige get the win.

While Natalya is ready to lace up her boots to take on Saraya, that doesn’t mean the pair aren’t friends. On the contrary, Natalya is ready to welcome her former colleague to one of her training sessions.

You’re always invited to the Dungeon anytime, but I would love to wrestle you againyou are one of the women who stood up for the division when others didn’t have the courage.”

Saraya is open to a WWE return, but as of July 2025, no contact had been made by the promotion. Time will tell if Saraya ever steps in a WWE ring again, but if she does, Natalya will be waiting for her.

Rob Gronkowski Ready For WWE Return, On One Condition

0

Rob Gronkowski may be retired from football, but fans shouldn’t count him out of a WWE ring. During his appearance on What’s Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon, the former 24/7 Champion explained how a single gesture may be all that it takes to bring him back to the squared circle.

“I’ll come back to WWE if I can do ‘Suck It’ in the middle of the ring.”

McMahon, amused by Gronk’s love of the iconic D-Generation X gesture, agreed to his terms. Gronk was instantly pleased, adding that “I’m coming back!” This ‘deal’ came after Gronk shared how he’d celebrated WrestleMania 40 with a series of crotch chops.

Gronkowski has made several appearances for WWE, including serving as host of WrestleMania 36 in 2020. That year also saw Gronk capture the WWE 24/7 Championship and win a Slammy Award as Celebrity of the Year.

While their interaction may have been tongue-in-cheek, fans know to never say never when it comes to pro-wrestling returns. With his larger-than-life personality and considerable mainstream appeal, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Gronk returned to WWE, complete with the crotch chop.

WWE’s Saudi Arabia WrestleMania Announcement Is Imminent

0

The official announcement for WWE’s historic move to bring WrestleMania to Saudi Arabia in 2027 is expected to be made this Friday in Las Vegas. A new report from PWInsiderElite.com has confirmed that the deal is done and that the company is preparing to make the news public.

As first reported by PWInsider yesterday, WWE is bringing WrestleMania to Saudi Arabia in 2027. The official announcement is expected this Friday. The timing is a strategic one, as all of WWE’s top executives will be in Las Vegas for the Canelo Alvarez fight and the WWE and AAA Worlds Collide special event.

The report also clarifies the nature of the event. “This will be the official Wrestlemania, not an offshoot show (think Greatest Royal Rumble) with all the bells and whistles,” the report states. This is a key detail, as it confirms that the company is moving its premier event, and not a secondary show, to the international location. It was also noted that fans can “expect a big push to have lots of major legends making appearances in some fashion,” which aligns with a previous report from the Wrestling Observer that the Saudi partners are looking to create the “most star-studded show ever.”

The initial news of the event broke via a Snapchat video from Turki Al-Sheikh, the Chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority. The new report clarifies that this was “an error and nothing WWE had to do with,” which explains why a formal announcement from the company is still forthcoming. The report also shoots down a rumor that the event would be a “split deal” with one night in Saudi Arabia and the other in Nashville, stating that this is “not accurate.”

While the 2027 WrestleMania is heading overseas, the report also provided an update on future domestic locations for the event. For 2028 and beyond, Indianapolis and New Orleans are still considered the “current frontrunners.” However, the report notes that WWE is “not beholden to anything except what they will believe will maximize their revenue,” citing the recent changes to the locations for WrestleMania 41 and John Cena’s retirement match as examples of the company’s willingness to pivot its plans.

The move to bring WrestleMania to Saudi Arabia is the most significant development yet in the partnership between WWE and Saudi General Entertainment Authority. The official announcement this Friday is expected to be a major news story in both the wrestling and business worlds.

MVP Reveals One Type of Wrestling Tribalism He Can Relate To

0

MVP has named the one type of tribalism he can understand.

The AEW star recently spoke to Chris Van Vliet for a new interview. He talked about things such as being convicted for armed robbery early in his life, how he found wrestling during his time in the prison, his career in WWE, and more.

Talking about the rivalry between fans of different companies, MVP explained that people within the business do not feel the same way. He mentioned how he’s made many friends in the industry over his career spanning more than 20 years and he doesn’t understand people wanting someone to lose their job because of their hatred:

“I have friends and colleagues that work for all the wrestling companies. Why would you want somebody to lose their livelihood? I want all the wrestling companies to be successful, the more successful they are, the better it is for us, the wrestlers, and you, the fans. So I just don’t understand that mentality, that kind of almost pure hatred, the tribalism, between brands.”

Though later on, the former US champion also revealed the one explanation for tribalism that he can relate to. MVP recalled the time before he entered the business and took pride in following companies outside of the mainstream options:

“But one thing I do get, I do get the kids that want to be extra cool, [who say] ‘I don’t watch that mainstream stuff, dude, I watch the cool niche companies.’

Which I think that’s dope, because I was one of those guys before people knew what New Japan was. I was a tape trader.”

The Hurt Syndicate star mentioned that WCW and WWE had some Japanese wrestlers on the roster but not many people were aware of how those talents had a whole career in their native countries before coming to America.

James Gunn Reveals Dave Bautista Was His First Choice for Peacemaker Before John Cena

0

Director James Gunn has revealed a surprising casting detail about his hit HBO Max series “Peacemaker” – the role was originally written for Dave Bautista, not John Cena.

Speaking on The Howard Stern Show, Gunn disclosed that he initially offered the titular character to Bautista, who plays Drax in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films. However, financial considerations led to a different outcome.

“It was Dave Bautista. He’s a good friend of mine, obviously he plays Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy,” Gunn explained. “I wrote the character of Peacemaker for him and we offered him the role, but he was offered two movies and we weren’t paying him a lot, so he had to go where the money was.”

The rejection ultimately led to one of Gunn’s most successful creative partnerships. After seeing John Cena’s comedic performance in “Trainwreck,” Gunn cast the WWE superstar-turned-actor in the role.

“I had always been a fan of John since Trainwreck especially, I thought he was so, so funny in that movie. I met with him, we talked, we became instant, instant friends,” Gunn said.

The collaboration has proven fruitful, with Cena appearing in “The Suicide Squad,” two seasons of “Peacemaker,” and future projects planned. Gunn praised both Cena’s talent and their working relationship, stating: “I think I love the Peacemaker show more than anything else I’ve ever done.”

John Cena as The Peacemaker

John Cena’s portrayal of The Peacemaker in the DC Extended Universe has been widely acclaimed for its blend of humor, depth, and complexity. Debuting in 2021’s “The Suicide Squad,” Cena brings a unique vibrancy to the character—a heavily armed, patriotic antihero whose misguided sense of justice often leads to over-the-top violence and darkly comedic moments.

Cena’s performance perfectly balances Peacemaker’s macho bravado with surprising vulnerability, especially showcased in the HBO Max spin-off series, where layers of trauma and humanity are peeled back beneath the character’s bombastic exterior. His interpretation has solidified Peacemaker as one of DC’s most compelling and unconventional recent characters, thanks largely to Cena’s comic timing, physicality, and unexpected emotional range.

Shawn Michaels: Cody Rhodes’ Work Is A Huge Comfort in WWE

0

Cody Rhodes has been one of WWE’s very top stars since his return to the promotion three years ago. One man who knows about leading WWE is Shawn Michaels, who likes what he sees from the American Nightmare.

Speaking to Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, Michaels was asked for his thoughts on Rhodes. The two-time WWE Hall of Famer, who now leads WWE NXT, is pleased to see the company’s present and future in capable hands.

“You’re always comforted when you’re handing over the reins of this business to someone that respects it, honors it, and enjoys it.”

Michaels added that Rhodes’ dedication and work-ethic “gives all of us a lot of peace and comfort.” Rhodes’ efforts extend far beyond what fans see on TV, as the WWE Champion also helps out in WWE NXT.

“When Cody comes into the Performance Center, it’s very fortunate for us. He wants to pass it on to the next generation and echoes a lot of what we say. That’s a huge help and comfort to everyone in WWE. You know the business is in good hands moving into the future.”

Rhodes is currently off of TV with a kayfabe injury, but in reality is spending some quality time with his family after the arrival of their second child. Whatever Rhodes does next, both on and off-screen, the American Nightmare will give his all for WWE’s present and future.

WWExAAA Worlds Collide To Stream Live On YouTube

0

Worlds Collide, the latest crossover event between WWE and AAA, will stream live on YouTube, Paul Levesque has confirmed. On X, WWE’s Chief Content Officer shared the huge news.

Worlds Collide will see six matches take place from the iconic Cox Pavilion at the Thomas & Mack Center. The show will be headlined by AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo putting his gold on the line against Dominik Mysterio. Other highlights will see title matches for the World Tag Team and Latin American Championships, as well as a contest to determine the next challenger for AAA’s Reina de Reinas Championship. Other WWE names confirmed include Finn Balor, Roxanne Perez, Ethan Page, the New Day, and Natalya, along many more.

Worlds Collide: Las Vegas will be held as part of Mexican independence day weekend, adding to the buzz surrounding the event. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest from the show as the YouTube stream opens the event up to a wider audience than ever before.

Update On Planned Feud For Ilja Dragunov’s WWE TV Return

0

Ilja Dragunov has been sidelined since suffering an ACL injury in a match against GUNTHER one year ago in September 2024. As fans eagerly await his return to the ring, WWE is reportedly considering a major feud for the former NXT Champion.

According to BodySlam.net, WWE has internally discussed a potential program between Dragunov and Rusev. The report added that “Nothing is finalized” but this feud could be the one that reintroduces Dragunov to TV.

In August 2025, Bodyslam’s Cory Hays shared a gif of Dragunov, captioning it with “The time draws near,” leaving many to belive that Dragunov’s return will be coming sooner than later. Hays later shared that though Dragunov’s return is coming, fans shouldn’t expect it “in the next few weeks.”

If WWE goes forward with Dragunov vs. Rusev, it could be one of the hardest-hitting rivalries on TV. After nearly a year out of action, Dragunov’s return is highly anticipated by fans who are ready to see the former NXT Champion thrive on the main roster.

Rusev returned to WWE earlier this year, and recently capped off a feud with Sheamus at WWE Clash in Paris. It remains to be seen what’s next for him, but a feud with the Mad Dragon could be in his future.

Watch: Former TNT Champion Turns Heel on Dynamite

0

The Death Riders have a new member.

AEW presented the last episode of Dynamite of their current residency from the 2300 Arena this week. The main event of the show saw The Opps and Brodido teaming up to take on Death Riders and The Young Bucks in a huge 10-man tag team match with the winners receiving $500,000.

The ending of the bout was very chaotic as expected with all the stars getting involved in the action and delivering one finishing move after another. The Young Bucks managed to steal the victory for their team in the end after using the ropes to get the pin on Bandido.

Daniel Garcia Joins Death Riders?

The brothers tried to grab the cash and run away as the bell rang but Brody King chopped the bag out of their hands. Brodido then brawled them to the back, taking both teams away from the ringside.

Death Riders took the opportunity to beat up the Opps. They specifically went after Powerhouse Hobbs before Darby Allin came out to make the save. Just as Darby looked to take Mox out for good, however, Daniel Carcia came out of nowhere and attacked the Daredevil star.

Jon then got up and called for a chair. The chair was put in the middle, and the former TNT Champion delivered a brutal Curb Stomp to Allin on it. After a second Curb Stomp, Mox gave the order, and the Death Riders retreated to end the show, leaving a lot of questions behind.

Recently Released WWE Star Appears At ROH TV Taping

0

Former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Lacey Lane, known to WWE fans as Kayden Carter, has made her debut for Ring of Honor. The talented star appeared at the recent ROH television tapings, which took place at the historic 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, ahead of the live broadcast of AEW Dynamite. Her debut marks her first appearance for a major promotion since her release from WWE earlier this year.

The news of her appearance was first reported by Bodyslam.net on social media. While the details of her match, including her opponent, have not yet been revealed, it is expected to air on an upcoming episode of ROH TV.

Lane was a part of the WWE system from 2018 until her release in May 2025. She is best known for her successful tag team partnership with Katana Chance (formerly Kacy Catanzaro). The duo was a cornerstone of the NXT and main roster women’s tag team divisions, holding both the NXT and WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships during their time with the company. Their exciting, high-energy style made them a fan-favorite team.

Her release from WWE in May was a surprise to many, as she and her partner were consistently featured on television. After her 90-day non-compete clause expired in August, she became one of the top free agents on the market. Her decision to appear in Ring of Honor is a significant one for the promotion’s growing women’s division if she signs with them.

AEW World Championship Match Set For All Out

0

The main event for the upcoming AEW All Out pay-per-view is now official. On tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, it was confirmed that “Hangman” Adam Page will defend the AEW World Championship against the new TNT Champion, Kyle Fletcher.

The September 10 edition of Dynamite opened with a singles contest that saw the AEW World Champion, “Hangman” Adam Page, defeat the formidable Josh Alexander. After the hard-fought victory, Page was in the ring for a post-match promo when he was interrupted by another member of the Don Callis Family, Kyle Fletcher.

Fletcher, who is also the reigning TNT Champion, made his way to the ring and made it clear that he has his sights set on another piece of championship gold. After a back-and-forth on the microphone, Page agreed to grant Fletcher a shot at the AEW World Championship at the All Out pay-per-view. However, the champion added one condition to the match: he demanded that Fletcher’s manager, Don Callis, be banned from ringside. Fletcher agreed to the stipulation, making the main event official.

This will be “Hangman” Adam Page’s third defense of the AEW World Championship, which he won at the All In: Texas pay-per-view in July. For Kyle Fletcher, this will be his sixth singles match on a pay-per-view since 2024.

The AEW World Championship match is the latest addition to the card for the AEW All Out pay-per-view, which will take place on Saturday, September 20, from Toronto, Canada. The feud between Page and the Don Callis Family has been a top storyline in AEW in recent weeks, stemming from the attack that put Page’s friend, Kenny Omega, on the shelf.

Mark Shapiro: Vince McMahon Priced Tickets For Families, Didn’t Maximize Opportunity

0

Just a week after a fan confronted WWE President Nick Khan about the rising cost of tickets, TKO Chief Operating Officer Mark Shapiro has made it clear that fans should expect to pay even more in the future. Speaking at a technology conference, Shapiro stated that WWE has “work to do” on its “ticket yield” and plans to replicate the pricing strategy that has been successful for the UFC.

Speaking at the annual Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Technology Conference on Wednesday, Shapiro was asked about the ticket prices for both of TKO’s major properties. He was direct in his assessment that WWE ticket prices have not yet reached their full potential. “WWE is not where the UFC yet is on ticket yield. We have our work to do there,” he said.

He explained the company’s new philosophy, which is a departure from the previous approach under Vince McMahon. “We know we have a lot of room there because Vince McMahon was primarily pricing tickets for families and wasn’t totally focused on maxing the opportunity there. Now that we’ve seen what we can do with UFC, we’re replicating that in terms of ticket yield and holding back and advance sales when it comes to OnLocation on the WWE side and it’s working out really well,” he continued.

“Ticket yield” is a term used in the travel and entertainment industries that refers to maximizing revenue by selling all available inventory at a strategic mix of prices. Shapiro has been open in the past about TKO’s view that there is “tremendous upside” in increasing WWE’s ticket prices. This strategy has already been reflected in the high cost of tickets for recent premium live events and television tapings in major markets.

Shapiro also discussed the importance of site fees for both WWE and UFC events, stating that his primary focus is on “cash.” He even issued a warning to cities that have had successful events, suggesting that they will have to “pay for us to come back or else we’ll take it to another town.” He made it clear this applies to all of WWE’s brands, including Raw, SmackDown, and NXT.

WWE WrestleMania Reportedly Heading To Saudi Arabia In 2027

In a move that would be a historic first for the company, WWE’s flagship event, WrestleMania, appears to be heading to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2027. The news first broke via a Snapchat video from Turki Al-Sheikh, the Chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority, and has since been reported as “100% legitimate” by PWInsider.

The news emerged on Wednesday afternoon when a Snapchat video advertisement from Al-Sheikh began circulating online. In the video, the Chairman appeared to announce that WrestleMania 43 would be coming to the country. While social media announcements of this nature can sometimes be premature, a report from PWInsider has added a great deal of credibility to the story.

“PWInsider.com can confirm, however, that the story is 100% legitimate and an announcement is coming very soon, bringing Wrestlemania to an international location outside of North American for the first time ever,” the report said. The confirmation from a reputable trade publication suggests that a formal announcement from WWE is imminent.

This would mark the first time in its 43-year history that WrestleMania would be held outside of North America. The move is the latest, and most significant, development in the lucrative and often controversial business partnership between WWE and the Saudi regime, which began in 2018. The deal sees Saudi Arabia host multiple premium live events per year for an estimated site fee of $50 million per show.

The relationship has continued to grow in recent years, with WWE bringing some of its biggest annual events to the country. It has already been announced that the 2026 Royal Rumble premium live event will be held in Saudi Arabia, a first for one of WWE’s traditional “big four” pay-per-views. The addition of WrestleMania to that list would be the pinnacle of their partnership.

Before the reported international spectacle in 2027, WWE has already announced the location for WrestleMania 42 in 2026. That event is scheduled to take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, marking the second consecutive year that the city will host the “Showcase of the Immortals.”

WWE Legend Predicts Logan Paul Will Be The “Biggest Hero Of All Time”

0

WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter has some incredibly high praise for the current United States Champion, Logan Paul. In a new interview, the legendary superstar predicted that Paul will not only become a top babyface in WWE, but that he will ultimately surpass the legacies of icons like Hulk Hogan and Dusty Rhodes to become the “biggest hero of all time.”

Speaking to Bill Apter of Sportskeeda, Sgt. Slaughter was asked for his thoughts on Logan Paul’s potential in the wrestling business. He was effusive in his praise, calling Paul a “natural” and someone who is already “at home” in the ring. “I don’t think he has too many weaknesses. He still rushes things a little bit,” Slaughter said. “He’s a natural. He’s at home. It takes a long time to make that ring your second home.”

Slaughter then made his bold prediction about Paul’s future as a babyface. He believes that once Paul has established himself as the ultimate villain, his eventual turn to the good side will make him the most popular star the business has ever seen. “Once he establishes himself as the biggest villain, he’ll be the biggest hero of all time. I think he’ll surpass every hero we’ve ever had in this business,” he stated.

When asked if he truly believed Paul could surpass the likes of Hulk Hogan and Dusty Rhodes, Slaughter did not back down. “He’ll be better than all of us. He’s only had about 30 matches, and he’s already main evented,” he said. He did note that Paul still needs to work on the “psychology of what it takes to be that villain,” but that he has all the other tools to be a top star.

Slaughter’s praise is some of the highest that Paul has received from a respected veteran. His own career saw him make the successful transition from one of the most hated heels of the 1980s to a beloved American hero. Logan Paul won at the SummerSlam premium live event, where he teamed with Drew McIntyre to defeat Randy Orton and Jelly Roll. However, he lost to John Cena at the Clash in Paris premium live event on August 31. The full interview with Sgt. Slaughter can be seen on Sportskeeda’s YouTube channel.

Bryan Danielson Claims WWE Wants AEW Out Of Business

0

WWE is ready for a blissful future without having to battle with AEW for audience support, as far as Bryan Danielson is concerned. During an appearance on the Ned & Josh podcast, Danielson, a former WWE and AEW World Champion, said he doubted WWE and AEW could work together in the current climinate, and shared his hot take.

“This is just my perception… I’ve never talked to anybody about this—it almost seems like they would like us to go out of business.

While WWE and AEW have worked together, including having Bryan on Raw via video in June 2022, that collaboration seems a lifetime ago. As WWE and AEW continue to go head-to-head in direct competition, Bryan believes any idea of collaboration is simply impossible today.

WWE has opened itself to working with others, including TNA Wrestling, Bloodsport, Pro Wrestling NOAH, and beyond. Despite this, Danielson believes that WWE’s old habits die hard when faced with ‘All-Elite’ competition.

That’s how I look at it. They’ve operated this way since 1984. They see a competitor, and no matter what, they want them gone.

Bryan was quick to make clear that his words aren’t an attack on the WWE roster itself. On the contrary, Danielson still has plenty of friends in WWE, despite the company supposedly wanting AEW’s roster out of a job.

“I know people in WWE—good people. I don’t even like framing this in a good vs bad way. What’s the decision-making process there? Why do they want AEW not to exist?”

Over six years after launching, AEW appears here to stay, despite what WWE may want (according to Bryan.) As tensions continue to rise between the two sides, wrestling fans will continue to be treated to bigger, badder, better events.

Shawn Michaels: NXT Is The Only Brand That Builds Stars ‘In Order To Lose Them’

0

WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels, who now serves as the Senior Vice President of Talent Development and Creative for the NXT brand, has opened up about his role in shaping the future of WWE. In a new interview, he shared his gratitude for the position and highlighted what he believes makes NXT a unique entity in the professional wrestling world.

Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, the “Heartbreak Kid” discussed his passion for his current job, which sees him overseeing the development of the next generation of WWE superstars. He has been working behind the scenes in NXT for almost a decade but took on a larger role in running the brand in 2021. The transition from one of the greatest in-ring performers of all time to a key executive has been a successful one, and he is clearly passionate about his new role.

“It’s a role I love,” Michaels said. “None of it feels like work for me. And if it helps the men and women here grow personally and professionally, then those are positives.” His comments reflect a deep commitment to not only the professional but also the personal growth of the talent under his guidance. This holistic approach is a hallmark of his leadership style.

Michaels then explained his perspective on what separates NXT from every other wrestling promotion, including WWE’s own main roster brands. He pointed to NXT’s primary function as a developmental system as its defining characteristic, a role that he embraces. “There’s not another brand out there that works so hard to create stars in order to lose them,” he stated. “Everybody else builds stars to be able to draw money and ratings for their show. We do it to then send them off somewhere else. That is unlike any other brand, and it is part of the value NXT brings to the wrestling business as a whole.”

He compared his work with the up-and-coming talent to a parent sharing life lessons with their children. He is able to draw upon his own career to provide a unique and valuable perspective. “I’m supposed to be giving back, and I’m thankful that I can do it in a line of work that I know a lot about,” he said. “It’s like sharing experiences and knowledge with your children… I understand the personal struggle that goes on during this. To not recognize that would be an injustice. I want to make sure we’re covering everything and do my part in trying to help them.”
