Watch: What Happened With Samoa Joe After Dynamite Went Off Air

0

Samoa Joe cut a passionate promo after this week’s historic episode of AEW Dynamite from MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston, Massachusetts, went off air.

The company celebrated the Wednesday night show becoming the longest-running weekly prime time wrestling series in the history of Turner Sports, beating WCW Monday Night Nitro. Tony Khan booked a show worthy of the achievement with a number of big matches.

The event title ‘Spring BreakThru’ opened with Athena’s return to AEW TV in a match against Mercedes Mone. We also saw the first appearance by Christian Cage since the Revolution PPV on March 9.

The biggest surprise of the night was probably the debut of the former Impact World Champion Josh Alexander. The Walking Weapon was revealed to be the wild card in the Owen Hart Cup Tournament, and he faced Hangman Page at the show.

What Happened After Dynamite

The main event of the show saw the trio of Katsuyori Shibata, Samoa Joe & Will Hobbs challenging The Death Riders for the AEW Trios title. Jon Moxley replaced Pac in the title defence due to the latter’s injury.

Swerve Strickland, The Young Bucks, Willow Nightingale and Marina Shafir all appeared at ringside trying to influence the bout. It was Joe who won the match for his team in the end, taking out the AEW World Champion with a Coquina Clutch.

The locker room emptied out to celebrate the fall of the Death Riders after the match and the show ended with a number of big names celebrating in the ring. This celebration continued even after the show and Samoa Joe cut an off air promo to send the crowd home.

The Opps Win Trios Titles On AEW Dynamite

0

The Death Riders’ stranglehold on the AEW Trios Titles came to an end during the latest episode of AEW Dynamite as The Opps captured the gold in a stacked main event. Both teams saw replacements, as Jon Moxley filled in for the injured Pac while Powerhouse Hobbs replaced HOOK for the challengers.

The Young Bucks tried to shift the match momentum toward the Death Riders but Swerve Strickland showed up to take both of them out. Willow Nightingale took out Marina Shafir when the latter tried to use a chair on Hobbs. The finish saw Samoa Joe choke out Jon Moxley to win the gold.

The Death Riders had held the titles since All In: London 2024, where Pac, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta ended the reign of the Patriarchy. Now, the 234-day reign of Moxley’s faction has come to an end, and it’s telling that Joe got the win over the AEW World Champion. Whether this means a future AEW World title match or not remains to be seen, but this week’s defeat is a serious setback for the Death Riders.

Darby Allin Is ‘Doing Great’ On Mount Everest Expedition

0

AEW star Darby Allin has officially commenced his Mount Everest expedition, with updates being provided by Adventure Consultants. As of April 16, 2025, Allin and his team were reported to be in Chhukhung.

Adventure Consultants wrote, “Today our Everest Private Team said goodbye to the trekkers and hiked from Pheriche to Chhukhung an elevation gain of 530m. Darby is doing great! It took three and half hours. It was nice and clear day with great views. Tomorrow we are going to continue our acclimatisation with a hike Chhukhung Ri, a nearby hill which is at 5540m.” The expedition reportedly began on April 8th.

Allin’s absence from AEW began in late December 2024, his last appearance being on the December 27th AEW Rampage, where he was written off television following an attack by The Death Riders.

This hiatus accommodates his long-held ambition to climb Everest, a plan initially delayed by a broken foot suffered in March 2024. Now, Allin is actively pursuing this challenging endeavor, with his progress being tracked as he acclimatizes to the high altitudes.

Josh Alexander Makes AEW Debut On Dynamite

0

As seen on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Josh Alexander was revealed as the Wild Card in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

The former TNA star wrestled Hangman Page on the show. AEW CEO Tony Khan confirmed that Alexander is All Elite, as seen below.

In mid-Febuary, Alexander’s deal with TNA Wrestling expired and he became a free agent. It was expected then that he would be going to AEW. WWE did have an interest in using him last year.

Before entering the market, it was reported that he was being repped by wrestling super agent Barry Bloom to get his next deal done. Bloom represents several wrestlers and people in wrestling, including Kenny Omega and Jim Ross.

He established himself as a top-tier talent, achieving the distinction of a two-time TNA World Champion. His second reign with the title stands as the longest in the promotion’s history, spanning an impressive 335 days. Alexander demonstrated his versatility by capturing the TNA X Division Championship on one occasion and the TNA World Tag Team Championship twice, notably alongside Ethan Page as part of the widely popular tag team known as “The North.”

Tony Khan Is Open To Expanding The Number Of AEW PPVs In The Future

0

As AEW continues to grow, the frequency of its pay-per-view events has also increased. Starting with just four major shows annually at its inception, AEW now hosts nine pay-per-views per year.

Tony Khan appears content with the current number of pay-per-views, though he hasn’t ruled out a potential increase in the future. In a recent report by Tony Maglio of The Hollywood Reporter, which focused on AEW Dynamite surpassing WCW Nitro in the total number of episodes aired, Khan shared his thoughts on the company’s pay-per-view strategy.

It was written in the article, “PPVs serve as the payoff points to the storylines laid out by weekly TV shows, like Dynamite. And Khan believes he’s found the sweet spot in terms of annual count; AEW currently is at nine pay-per-view events per year, but Khan could see it going up to 10. WWE is doing 17 of what it now bills as Premium Live Events this year.” Khan was quoted by stating, “For now, nine is ‘a great number.”

Looking at AEW’s immediate pay-per-view schedule, the company is coming off its AEW Dynasty event, which took place on April 6th. The next major show on the calendar is AEW Double or Nothing, scheduled for May 25th.

AEW has also announced key dates for later in the year. All Elite Wrestling will hold its third annual All In event, this year titled All In: Texas, on Saturday, July 12, 2025. This event is particularly significant as it will be AEW’s first pay-per-view hosted in the state of Texas and within a Major League Baseball stadium, Globe Life Field in Arlington.

Continuing their successful collaboration, AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling will present the fourth annual Forbidden Door event on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Wembley Stadium in London, UK, making it the first time the event has been held outside of North America.

Nick Khan: CM Punk Wasn’t A Cancer. I’ve Found Him To Be A Gentleman

0

Nick Khan addressed the narrative surrounding CM Punk’s reputation as a disruptive force within wrestling locker rooms, particularly stemming from his AEW tenure that included two backstage incidents.

Speaking on The Bill Simmons Podcast while promoting WrestleMania 41, the WWE President directly countered the “locker room cancer” label that had followed Punk.

Khan stated, “By the way, it was so obvious to me that he wasn’t a cancer. In having been an agent, assume I dealt with some personalities that were not the easiest [to deal with]. That’s part of the job. I’d always found [CM Punk] to be a gentleman.”

“I always found him to be honest, responsive, and I felt like if he was that way outside of [WWE], if given an opportunity to come back to the company, he would be that way. And he said that he would be, and he’s been a gem to work with.”

The “locker room cancer” moniker gained traction following a reported backstage altercation involving Punk after AEW All Out, with Chris Jerichousing the term. This label was further amplified when Seth Rollins referred to Punk as a “cancer” during a WWE 2K23 media event prior to Punk’s return to WWE. However, since Punk’s return to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, several figures within the wrestling industry, including veterans like Bully Ray and Mark Henry, have publicly defended Punk.

Punk is slated to work a triple threat match with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 41.

MJF Gloats As AEW Dynamite Surpasses WCW Monday Nitro

0

The April 16, edition of AEW Dynamite will be a historic show for the company and not just because of the exciting in-ring action promised. The show will mark Dynamite’s 289th episode since launching in October 2019. This show will see AEW Dynamite surpass WCW Monday Nitro, a program that Dynamite is often compared to, which lasted for 288 episodes from 1995 to March 2001.

One person who fans have been able to see for some of Dynamite’s biggest episodes is MJF. Taking to X, the Salt of the Earth reflected on Dynamite reaching the 289 milestone. Not one to stand on ceremony though, the former AEW World Champion argued that Dynamite would not have reached this milestone “without me carrying the company solely on my back for all these years.”

AEW Dynamite and WCW Monday Nitro have often been compared given that both shows have served as the most direct competiton to WWE’s TV dominance. While Nitro would ultimately lose their battle, resulting in the company being purchased at a bargain price by Vince McMahon, Dynamite shows no signs of suffering a similar fate anytime soon.

As for MJF, his latest run on Dynamite has seen him attempt to win over the Hurt Syndicate though the group remaisn unconvinced by the former AEW World Champion. And with entry into the faction needing to come from a unaminous decision, it remains to be seen what MJF will have to do to win over MVP, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin.

Shawn Michaels Says UFC’s Rise Pushed WWE to Adopt a More Realistic Style

0

WWE and UFC are two very different genres of entertainment, but there’s more common ground than you’d think. During an appearance on the Bobby Bones Show, Shawn Michaels explained how WWE had no choice but to evolve thanks to the rise of professional mixed martial arts.

Michaels, who serves as WWE’s Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, shared insight into how the art of ‘selling’ in pro wrestling has evolved. UFC going mainstream led WWE to adopt a more realistic style. So much so, that wrestlers who shined in previous generations would look out of place in 2025.

“The business has changed so much,” Michaels said. Reflecting on the ’90s, he cited Mr. Perfect as a key influence, praising his visual and exaggerated selling style. “This day and age he would be considered an overseller, but it was very visual and very appealing.”

He added that wrestlers like Dolph Ziggler and Billy Gunn continued that expressive style, including himself, though he’s unsure how that level of performance would be received today.

Michaels pointed to the growth of MMA, particularly UFC, as a turning point.

“With MMA being around, our business had to evolve and replicate what I think people perceived as legitimately painful or not,” he explained.

As combat sports gained mainstream traction, pro wrestling had to adapt to meet changing expectations for realism.

“As this continues to grow, evolve, and change, our business is going to continue to do that,” he added.

Michaels said he’s gotten caught up in looking at the younger generation and saying, ‘They don’t sell like we did back in the day.’ He’s come to realize that nothing is static and change is inevitable.

“Old timers like me often talk about, ‘These kids don’t sell anything like we did,’ but at the same time, I remember people saying that to me. That is generational.

I think you have to change with the times. Football, basketball, baseball, they all need to be faster than they once were to keep an audience entertained and locked in. Our business is no different.”

Eric Bischoff Congratulates Tony Khan on AEW Dynamite Surpassing WCW Nitro

0

Former WCW President Eric Bischoff, one of All Elite Wrestling’s fiercest critics, has issued a congratulatory message to AEW President Tony Khan ahead of tonight’s historic AEW Dynamite.

In just a matter of hours, episode 289 of AEW Dynamite goes live on TBS and surpasses WCW Monday Nitro as the longest-running weekly prime time wrestling series in the history of Turner Sports. On his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff complimented Khan’s commitment and vision. He may not agree with everything Khan does, but he respects what he’s achieved. Bischoff knows better than anybody, Khan’s job isn’t easy.

“I want to congratulate Tony Khan and his entire staff. This obviously means a lot to them and congratulations,” Bischoff said. “It does say a lot about Tony’s commitment. Tony put his own money into this.

You can judge the product, I can judge the product, I often have. I just don’t watch it anymore, but truth is, his vision, his dream, his money, his commitment.

So congratulations because what he did isn’t easy, no matter how anybody feels about the product, it wasn’t easy and it still isn’t.”

Tony Schiavone Reflects on AEW Surpassing WCW Nitro, Praises Tony Khan’s Leadership

0

As AEW Dynamite airs a milestone episode tonight, officially surpassing the total episode count of WCW Monday Nitro, veteran broadcaster Tony Schiavone shared personal reflections on the achievement.

Speaking on his What Happened When podcast, Schiavone, a former voice of Nitro and now a key figure in AEW, praised the journey and the leadership of AEW President Tony Khan. “It is pretty cool,” Schiavone said of the accomplishment. He acknowledged that some might view his praise skeptically, adding:

“Most people are going to say, ‘Oh, you’re a suck up.’ Yeah, I am.”

Reflecting on AEW’s evolution, Schiavone admitted the road hasn’t been entirely smooth.

“There’s been bumps, and I’m talking about bumps that you have not seen, bumps that have not been reported,” he said.

Despite internal challenges, he emphasized Khan’s pivotal role in rejuvenating the team behind AEW.

“He gave us new life. He completely changed our lives,” Schiavone stated. “Everybody who works for him… he changed our lives, especially people in the front office.”

Schiavone connected Khan’s personal passion for wrestling to the importance of tonight’s episode.

“He loves wrestling on a nostalgia level, like we do. Tony has done a lot for us,” he said.

He also highlighted Khan’s influence on AEW’s creative success, citing the “Timeless” Toni Storm character as a standout example.

“Right now, Timeless Toni Storm is probably the biggest woman’s star that we have… and that’s because it was a character that Tony Khan developed,” he revealed.

Schiavone noted RJ City’s contributions to the character’s development, but emphasized that the concept originated with Khan.

“He’s come up with some very good ideas for us over the last six years,” Schiavone added, referencing key matches like Stadium Stampede and AEW’s double cage format. “We are charged to implement them, which we have done to the best of our ability.”

Looking ahead to the milestone broadcast, Schiavone concluded:

“I really feel that this is going to be a very special night for many, many reasons.”

LA Knight: A WWE World Title Run Is In My Future

0

Over the past two years, LA Knight has created a significant and passionate fan base within WWE, consistently getting some of the loudest crowd reactions whenever his entrance music plays.

This surge in popularity has coincided with in-ring success, as Knight has twice held the WWE United States Championship during this period. Despite all of the success, Knight has yet to win the World Title in WWE.

Knight sat down for an interview with Gorilla Position, where he was asked about his ambitions to become a World Champion.

“I don’t see how it’s not,” he said before being asked whether he thinks the powers that be think he is in line for a World Title run.

“I don’t care if they do. I’m sure they didn’t believe I would have gotten to where I got, and that’s not a knock at them. People see what they see. The company is going to have an agenda and you’re not always going to be part of it. For me, okay, I can’t worry about that. I gotta do what I gotta do in the sense of, just keep pushing. If I have 30 seconds, it’s going to be the best damn 30 seconds I can give. 60 seconds, 90 seconds, whatever it is. It’s little bits of time they were giving me, when it was me and Bray Wyatt or just me floating off by myself doing nothing for months, and months, and months, after Bray Wyatt.

It was just, ‘Okay, I’m going to make the damn best out of every single little bit that I got.’ At that point, it was forcing the hand. When you ask about, ‘Does the company see this?’ I don’t know and I don’t care. Would it be nice if they did, would it make things a lot easier if they did? Yeah, it’d make things a hell of a lot easier, but I can’t worry about that.

I don’t think I’ve ever been anybody’s guy. I don’t feel like I’m anybody’s guy. If I am somebody’s guy, it’s a surprise to me. For me, I can’t worry about that or think about that, I just gotta keep doing me. I think there is a world title run in my future. Whether they think it or anybody else thinks it, it doesn’t make a difference to me. At some point, it’s probably going to happen.”

Knight is slated to defend the United States Title against Jacob Fatu at WrestleMania 41.

Best Thing That Could Happen: Seth Rollins Reveals Interesting Take On Charlotte Flair/Tiffany Stratton Situation

0

Seth Rollins has revealed his stand on the Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton situation.

The two female stars who are set to compete at WrestleMania 41 have been in news recently but for the wrong reasons. The two WWE stars have gathered real life heat after going off script and taking personal shots at each other during promos building up to their upcoming title match.

The Architect was asked about his opinion on the whole situation during his recent appearance on Outta Pocket podcast. Seth Rollins mentioned how he has worked with plenty of people he didn’t like during his career, but explained that you have to have thick skin in the wrestling business:

“Gosh, that’s a tough one cause I do have some opinions about it but there’s sort of…how do I say this? I think no matter what, it’s a collaboration in my opinion. It should always be a collaboration.

Look I’ve been out there in the ring with people who I didn’t like. You’ve worked with I’m sure plenty of people that you did not like. But there is a certain respect that you share and a communication that should happen and an understanding. One of my favorite people in the world is John Cena.

John always told me whenever we would cut a promo together ‘You say whatever you want out there. We’re on TV. It’s fair game. Anything you want. My skin is thick.’ In our industry, you have to be able to do that. You have to be able to have a thick skin because, we are in the conflict business, and the best conflict that we can sell is real-life conflict. Because our audience is so smart, they can sniff things out from a mile away.”

We’re Talking About It Now: Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins then made an interesting assessment saying that the real-life conflict is a good thing. According to him, it has actually helped the story as people are talking more about it now than they were before:

“So in my opinion what happened on, what it [was] last Friday, I guess it would be, was the best thing that could have happened for their story. Because we’re on this podcast talking about it right now. Had it not happened, we wouldn’t even be thinking about it at all.

So in my opinion, the direction it went it’s going to help bolster their match leading into WrestleMania. Now, can we get both of them to come together and work together? TBD. We’ll see. I don’t know.

They’ve got a show. We’ll see what happens. Like I said, I’ve been in the ring with people and I’ve been in promos with people that I didn’t like but there’s always an understanding of what lines to cross. Look if you’re gonna break that agreement, then you need to be prepared for what comes back at you. I’ll just leave it at that.”

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority projects over 144,000 hotel room nights tied to the week’s events. The city has rolled out themed displays at major landmarks, backed by a $5 million sponsorship deal.

Officials say WrestleMania ranks among Las Vegas’s top tourism weekends of 2025, alongside events like Formula One and the Super Bowl. Tickets remain available, with limited-view seats starting at $140.

Travis Scott Confirmed for WrestleMania 41, Backstage Reaction to Him Injuring Cody Rhodes

0

Travis Scott’s involvement in WWE will continue at WrestleMania 41, with the rapper officially confirmed to appear at the event following his dramatic debut earlier this year.

Scott made headlines after teaming with The Rock and John Cena during Elimination Chamber, where the trio shocked fans with a major heel turn, assaulting Cody Rhodes in what has been described as one of WWE’s most memorable segments in recent history.

Despite the strong showing, neither Scott nor The Rock have appeared on WWE programming alongside Cena since the March 1 episode of SmackDown. However, WWE’s Chief Content Officer Triple H has now clarified Scott’s status moving forward.

Travis Scott Just Getting Started in WWE

Appearing on The Ankler Podcast alongside WWE President Nick Khan, Triple H confirmed that Scott will be part of WrestleMania 41, teasing a major moment during the Las Vegas event.

“Travis is a kid in a candy store in that thing,” Triple H said. “He’ll be at WrestleMania… whatever happens in Vegas over WrestleMania weekend will be heard worldwide.”

Cody Rhodes’ Reaction to Travis Scott Injuring Him

The podcast also shed light on the real-life aftermath of the Cody Rhodes segment, specifically a hard slap delivered by Scott. According to Khan, Scott said he was following The Rock’s advice to fully commit to the moment.

“Travis said, ‘Dwayne Johnson told me you better slap the s**t out of him, or people are gonna think that you don’t have it.’”

Triple H added that Rhodes had no complaints about the intensity.

“Ironically, the only person that didn’t complain about the slap was Cody Rhodes,” he said. “He just wanted it to look good.”

With Scott’s involvement now official, fans can expect more crossover moments as WWE continues building mainstream momentum ahead of its biggest show of the year.

Nick Khan Addresses WWE’s Talent Strategy, AEW Signings, and Vince McMahon Docuseries

0
  • WWE President Nick Khan addressed multiple hot topics during his appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast, including WWE’s approach to signing former AEW talent and the company’s response to the Netflix docuseries Mr. McMahon.
  • Khan clarified that WWE does not intend to sign wrestlers just to sideline them, praised AEW’s talent while signaling interest in future acquisitions, and offered insight into the internal reaction to the controversial final episode of the Vince McMahon documentary.

Here are the highlights from the interview:

WWE’s Approach to Signing AEW Talent

In recent months, WWE has signed several notable names from AEW, including Ricky Saints (formerly Ricky Starks), Penta, Rey Fenix, and Ethan Page. While the list continues to grow, Khan was clear that WWE isn’t signing talent just to keep them off TV.

“That’s something we won’t do. We won’t sign and bench people. We sign people who we want to use,” Khan stated. When host Bill Simmons noted that stockpiling talent is common in wrestling, Khan responded, “That’s what I’ve been told from time to time. Not us.”

Khan emphasized that WWE’s focus is on bringing in performers who can contribute on-screen. Referencing AEW indirectly, he said:

“In terms of the other wrestling promotional company, they have a lot of talented wrestlers and we’re happy about that. When, contractually, they are available to talk to and have conversations with, assume a number of them will come over.”

He added a respectful nod to AEW’s ownership structure:

“Nothing but respect to the father who finances it and owns the Jaguars and all those other things.” This was a reference to Shad Khan, with AEW operated daily by his son, Tony Khan.

Reaction to the Mr. McMahon Netflix Docuseries

The six-episode docuseries Mr. McMahon premiered on Netflix on September 25, chronicling Vince McMahon’s rise and fall. Episode six in particular spotlighted serious allegations against the former WWE Chairman, including sexual misconduct, hush money payments, and a federal investigation. Khan addressed the company’s internal reaction to the documentary.

“Episodes one through five, it was all fine. Episode six obviously had a lot of tawdry allegations in there,” he said. “The most important thing in the company was, ‘Hey, this is not for us to spike it.’ That’s not what the deal was and the deal that was struck with Netflix was prior to me joining WWE on a full-time basis.”

He described the range of reactions from within WWE:

“It went everywhere from ‘Hey, it was phenomenally done’ to ‘Oh my God, this thing is not true, it’s not factual.’ There were people who loved it as an objectively told profile of a person, and people who were close to the subject who didn’t like it, which I would understand, and I think you understand.”

Simmons, who produced the documentary, acknowledged the challenges but expressed pride in the final product. All six episodes are currently available to stream on Netflix.

Rhea Ripley has revealed a surprising name as a wrestling inspiration for her.

The Mami recently appeared on Kevin Hart’s show Cold As Balls. She talked about things such as her partnership with Dominik Mysterio, her history teaming and feuding with Liv Morgan, and more.

During the talk, Rhea was asked about her inspirations in the wrestling business. The Eradicator unsurprisingly named Triple H as someone she loved growing up:

“I had three, three main ones growing up..It was Triple H, which is now my boss, so absolutely wild. He’s done so much in WWE, and now he’s literally running it.”

He’s So Comfortable Being A Di**head: Rhea Ripley

Rhea Ripley then also revealed The Miz as an inspiration. Despite having very different character compared to the A-Lister, the female star said that she loves the former WWE champion for his dedication to being a heel:

“Then there’s The Miz. I love The Miz. I don’t know if it was like his cocky demeanor. He’s so funny. He’s so comfortable being a dickhead, and I love that. Then obviously, CM Punk, as well. He’s finally back with WWE, which is amazing. It’s so wild to like have him there.”

Apart from this, Ripley revealed that the first thing that drew her towards wrestling was Triple H’s feud with Ric Flair. Specifically the moment where H shoved a screwdriver into the Nature Boy’s head got her hooked to the sport.

The former Judgment Day member will be competing in a triple threat match against Bianca Belair and IYO SKY for the Women’s title at WrestleMania 41. You can check out the match order for the show here.
