AAA TripleMania XXXII – Nemeth/ JBL, Riddle Wins Gold, WWE Alum Return

0

Plenty went down at AAA TripleMania XXXII: Mexico City, including surprising debuts, returns, and plenty of title changes. The show was the third TripleMania event of this year and followed on from the Monterrey show in April and the Tijuana event in June.

Nic Nemeth Finds Ally, Loses Title

The show saw AAA Mega Champion Nic Nemeth in action as the ‘Wanted Man’ continues to be a highlight in various promotions. Ahead of his championship match with Nic Nemeth, it was revealed that WWE Hall of Famer John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield had aligned with Nic.

Despite this newfound ally, the show did not go as Nemeth had hoped. In a rematch of the bout that saw Nemeth win the gold, Alberto El Patron captured the title from his former WWE rival.

Matt Riddle Wins Gold

Matt Riddle was also a part of AAA TripleMania XXXII: Mexico City and left the city with some new hardware. The Original Bro captured the AAA Cruiserweight Championship from Komander in a Trios match that included Laredo Kid.

Raj Dhesi & Satnam Singh Win Tag Titles

Since his release from WWE in September 2023, Raj Dhesi has been making an impact and captured the Black Label Pro title in July of this year. Now the former Jinder Mahal has more gold as he and Satnam Singh have won the AAA Tag Team Championships.

WWE Superstars Return

TripleMania XXXII: Mexico City also saw former CMLL World Heavyweight Champion Marco Corleone (previously known as Mark Jindrak in WWE) make his return to AAA. Corleone last appeared for AAA in 2010 and this year was part of the Copa Bardhal.

Corleone wasn’t the only former WWE name who competed in the match in which the winner earned a guaranteed title match. Former WWE Superstar Kenzo Suzuki was also part of the match. Kenzo’s wife Hiroko will make her return to wrestling after close to a decade later this year.

The match was won by Octagon Jr. who now has the opportunity of a lifetime. Stay tuned to SE Scoops for all the latest from the world of AAA.

CM Punk On Being Called A Cancer – ‘I Treat People How They Treat Me’

0

CM Punk has rejected the notion that he is a “cancer” to others but believes any negative he has shown simply reflects how he’s been treated. Speaking at Fanatics Fest NYC, Punk was asked about being labeled a cancer by some.

“That’s all bulls***… If you are a piece of s***, and you act that way to me, I will treat you that way. If you’re nice, you’re smiling, you wanna have a good time, let’s have a good time, I’m all hugs.”

Punk went even further, claiming that people who spread lies about him do so because they can’t control him and “absolutely hate that.” Punk ended by saying people should arrive at their own conclusions but recognize that what’s often been said is not the truth.

Is CM Punk A ‘Cancer?’

Chris Jericho reportedly called Punk a cancer following the AEW All Out 2022 controversy where Punk made a series of disparaging comments during the media scrum. That, along with a backstage fight would result in Punk, The Elite and others suspended from the promotion.

Amid Punk’s first suspension from AEW, Seth Rollins labeled the former AEW World Champion a cancer during a media appearance ahead of the 2023 Royal Rumble. Rollins later admitted that it pains him to speak negatively about Punk. The issues between the pair have played into Punk’s return to WWE and Rollins’ volatile reaction at Survivor Series: WarGames 2023.

While Punk was the center of controversy in AEW, his conduct since returning to WWE has received high marks backstage. Stay tuned to SE Scoops for all the latest on this alleged ‘cancer’ of professional wrestling.

Travis Scott Joins WWE Legends at Day Two of Fanatics Fest NYC

0

The Superstars of WWE continued to make waves at the ongoing Fanatics Fest NYC event which is home to some of the biggest names in sports. The convention brings together some of the biggest names from the world’s top sports leagues. Several WWE Superstars are planned to make appearances which you can learn about with our handy Guide to WWE at Fanatics Fest NYC.

WWE At Fanatics Fest NYC: Day Two

WWE CCO Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque delighted fans with an appearance at day two of Fanatics Fest NYC. Though his career in the ring may be over, the Cerebral Assassin couldn’t help but perform his iconic entrance.

In the run-up to the day, WWE and Fanatics had promoted a special tag-team partner for WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. That mystery partner was revealed to be none other than hip-hop star Travis Scott.

Scott’s song FE!N will serve as the official theme song of WWE WrestleMania 41 in April 2025. Triple H was able to catch up with Scott after his appearance.

Scott has previously appeared for WWE in segments with ‘Main Event’ Jey Uso. He was by no means the only celebrity engaged in WWE antics at Fanatics Fest NYC as several stars showed their WWE spirit during day one of the convention.

Bianca Belair was also at day two of Fanatics Fest NYC. On Twitter, the EST was grateful to her fans who made the trip to the Javits Center.

There’s plenty to excite wrestling fans at Fanatics Fest NYC with appearances, panels, and much more announced. Stay tuned to SE Scoops for the latest from the convention.

Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara Win ROH World Tag Team Titles On 8/17 Collision

0

The ROH World Tag Team Championships found new owners this week as Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara now hold the gold. The pair captured the title from The Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) during the latest episode of AEW Collision with Guevara delivering a Swanton Bomb on Bennett, allowing Rhodes to secure the pinfall.

The match saw plenty of action in and out of the ring. Roderick Strong, The Beast Mortos, Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Reilly, Marshall Von Erich, Ross Von Erich, Tomohiro Ishii, Brian Cage, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Liona all ran in, sparking a brawl on the outside. Of this group, only Strong directly influenced the match by hitting Rhodes with a running kick.

This victory marks the first ROH Tag Team Championship reign for both Guevara and Rhodes and makes the latter a double champion. Rhodes is also currently one-third of the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions alongside The Von Erichs.

The Undisputed Kingdom’s reign as champions lasted 234 days and began at Dynamite: New Year’s Smash in December 2023. The pair won the titles as The Devil’s Masked Men and their identities were revealed at AEW Worlds End days later. As champions, Taven and Bennet had five successful title defenses. Their final successful defense came during the July 28 taping of ROH on Honor Club and saw them retain against Carlie Bravo & Shawn Dean.

This is a huge win for Rhodes and Guevara, the latter of whom only recently returned following months of inaction. Stay tuned to SE Scoops for all the latest on the new ROH World Tag Team Champions.

Jack Perry Debuts New AEW TNT Title Design On 8/17 Episode of Collision

0

The AEW TNT Championship received a new look during the latest episode of AEW Collision, courtesy of reigning champion Jack Perry. The Scapegoat defeated Danny Orion in a non-title match during the show, spray-painted Orion’s face, and stuffed him inside a body bag after the match.

Perry then discarded his old TNT Championship belt into the bag and revealed a brand-new one. This redesign of the title has a worn, battle-hardened appearance, now featuring a darker shade and a spray-painted black finish with veiny leather detailing.

This is just the latest championship in AEW to receive a striking new look. Earlier this month, MJF changed the International Championship to introduce the American Championship. The new title oozes Americana with a red, white, and blue design and plates with the U.S of A prominently featured.

TNT Championship Designs

The AEW TNT Championship has undergone several design changes since its inception, with Cody Rhodes’ first design receiving criticism for not appearing finished. The completed version of the TNT Championship was unveiled in August 2020 under the reign of Brodie Lee. The title has also featured a white and green design held by the likes of Miro, and a purple and yellow design during the reign of Scorpio Sky.

What’s To Come?

Darby Allin is set to challenge Jack Perry for the TNT Championship in a coffin match at AEW All In 2024 in London, England. With intense animosity between these two rivals, fans can expect a brutally violent encounter in Wembley Stadium. Stay tuned to SE Scoops for all the latest on Jack Perry as we inch closer to All In: London 2024.

CM Punk Addresses Potential Steve Austin Dream Match At Fanatics Fest NYC

0

CM Punk is ready to throwdown with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, but believes it’ll be the Rattlesnake’s call as to if a match actually happens. Speaking on The Masked Man Show during Fanatics Fest NYC, Punk was asked about the long-speculated dream match with the WWE Hall of Famer.

“That would be up to Steve. It’s not up to me… It should’ve happened ten-plus years ago, but if he wants to go to sleep, he can call me.”

Punk didn’t stop there, adding that he thinks Austin had a “pretty good return” with his WrestleMania 38 main event victory over Kevin Owens. Punk went on to say that Austin may have buried his proverbial six-shooters in the Nevada desert, but if he wants to dig them up, Punk will be his “huckleberry.”

For years, it appeared that this dream match would be nothing but a dream given that Austin retired from in-ring competition in 2003. Just over a decade later, Punk would walk out of WWE, again dashing the hopes of fans eager to see the two lock horns. As history has taught us, never say never in wrestling, as this match now looks more likely than ever before.

Fanatics Fest NYC

CM Punk made his comments at day two of Fanatics Fest NYC; an ongoing convention for sports fans and collectors alike. WWE has already had a huge presence at the event, with several celebrities showing their WWE spirit at the Javits Center. Want to know what else is happening at Fanatics Fest NYC? Giulia Debuts New Look, Reveals Final Match Ahead of Reported WWE Move

0

Giulia will be staying with the Marigold Wrestling promotion for slightly longer than initially planned, the Japanese wrestling sensation has revealed. Speaking to the press, Giulia shared that she will compete in a gauntlet at Marigold’s event in Shin-Kiba on August 25.

Wrestlers will have 60 seconds to face Giulia in the ring, and the offer to face Giulia will be available to talent from in and out of Marigold. As seen in the video below, Giulia debuted a new look, one more subdued than the usual colorful visage fans have come to know her for.

Giulia’s Future

Giulia had previously announced that her time competing in Japan would end on August 19, though this is clearly no longer the case. When Giulia does wrap up her time in Japan, many expect to see her in WWE shortly after. In April, it was reported that Giulia had signed with WWE and she appeared at NXT Stand & Deliver that same month.

Giulia’s name has been coming up more and more in WWE circles as of late, with NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez claiming to be the better wrestler. It has been reported that Giulia will start her WWE career in NXT where she is set to be pushed as the face of the gold brand’s women’s division. One source claimed that Giulia’s influence in NXT will rival that of Asuka, who held the NXT Women’s Championship for over 500 days before her move to the main roster. Stay tuned to SE Scoops for the latest on Giulia and her reported move to WWE.

Bobby Fulton Asks For Prayers After Facing Heart Complications During Surgery

0

Pro Wrestling legend Bobby Fulton recently provided an unfortunate health update.

Fulton had previously revealed that he almost lost his life during his battle with throat cancer. Last year, Fulton said that an artery ruptured in his throat while undergoing treatment. He added that he had a safety spring in his throat. Bobby Fulton said that he had scars all over his body due to the disease and was fortunate to be alive.

Taking to social media, Fulton has informed his fans that he underwent surgery to repair his throat from the treatments in 2020 but had heart complications during the procedure. He wants the fans to continue their thoughts and prayers for him as he will be visiting a cardiologist soon.

“This past Tuesday I had surgery to repair my throat from the cancer treatments in 2020. Unfortunately during the surgery I had heart complications. This coming week I’ll be going to see a cardiologist. I’m still here and still standing! Please continue the thoughts & prayers!”

Bobby Fulton is a pro wrestling veteran and made only a handful of appearances in WWE. However, he has had a successful career in other promotions. After starting his career at the young of 16, Fulton has competed across the world. He was also a part of a tag team with Tommy Rogers known as The Fantastics.

We at SEScoops wish him a speedy recovery.

Positive Update on Adam Cole Amid Injury Hiatus

0

AEW wrestler Adam Cole is likely to be back soon as an encouraging update has emerged on his recovery.

Fightful Select reported that Adam Cole was backstage at the August 14 edition of AEW Dynamite. Cole was taken off the road as traveling was slowing down his recovery but his backstage presence was a positive sign towards his return to the programming.

Another promising sign of his comeback is that there is a word backstage that we will resume his training in the ring as soon as next week.

Adam Cole last competed in the ring on September 3 last year following which he sustained an ankle injury. It took place in the final moments of the AEW Grand Slam last year when he landed awkwardly after he jumped from the entrance ramp. This also impacted the storylines he was involved.

A month following the injury Cole provided an update on social media. He thanked fans who showed him support while he recuperated with the injury. A few months back at AEW Double or Nothing 2024, Cole was involved in a segment with MJF. ‘The Salt of The Earth’ made his comeback to TV and confronted Cole. Fans speculated that a match would be happening soon. It is not confirmed yet whether the match will take place but it’s is likely to happen once Cole returns to action.

Johnny Gargano On #DIY Reunion: “Hoped It Would Happen”

0

#DIY reunited last year and Johnny Gargano has revealed that he and Tommaso Ciampa were hopeful to get back together again.

During a recent interview with TV Insider, #DIY members Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa talked about their reunion and how they felt about it. They were asked if they thought it would happen.

Gargano: We hoped it would happen.

Ciampa: I wasn’t. I was like, “Please Hunter not again.” It was to the mirror. “Hunter please.”

Gargano: It’s something we talked about 10 years ago and the fact we were able to make it happen is pretty awesome.

Ciampa: The worst.

Ciampa and Gargano have a fair share of history from their NXT days. They have been rivals and tag team partners from time to time. While they have put some great matches as a tag team, their rivalry remains to be one of the greatest chapters in the gold and black brand.

#DIY’s careers came full circle on the July 5 episode of SmackDown when they won the WWE Tag Team Championships by defeating A-Town Down Under (Grayson Waller and Austin Theory). This came nearly eight years after they beat The Revival to win the NXT Tag Team Championship at NXT TakeOver: Toronto at the same venue in 2016.

However, they recently dropped the tag team titles to The Bloodline. They are now trying to reclaim the titles back. They had a chance to get a title shot but lost the opportunity as they were defeated by The Street Profits in a No.1 Contender’s match on last night’s SmackDown.

Wrestling World Pays Tribute To Afa Anoa’i On His Passing

0

The wrestling world has come together to pay tribute to the legendary Afa Anoa’i after his passing earlier on Friday.

The 81-year-old had been battling health issues for a while. He was hospitalized due to pneumonia earlier this year and suffered a mild heart attack while he was in the hospital.

He also underwent a couple of surgeries to replace his Aortic Valve and treat fractures in his back after an unfortunate fall in May.

Afa had once again been hospitalized earlier this month and the wrestling veteran’s son confirmed the news of his passing on social media. A number of Anoa’i family members including Roman Reigns have since taken social media to pay tribute to the late star:

The Legendary Run of The Wild Samoans

Afa Anoa’i was part of the legendary tag team The Wild Samoans with his brother Sika. The team was best known for their run in the World Wrestling Federation which they joined in 1979.

Managed by Lou Albano, the duo won the WWF Tag Team Championships three times during their multiple runs with the company. Though they had plenty of accomplishments outside of the promotion as well.

The tag team won over a dozen different tag titles while travelling across America and competing for various NWA territories such as NWA Mid-America, NWA Detroit and NWA All-Star Wrestling.

After their wrestling career, the brothers opened the Wild Samoan Training Facility. They were also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007. Afa’s brother Sika passed away back in June this year.

Since the news of his passing became public companies such as AEW, TNA and MLP, alongside individuals like Triple H, Natayla, Matt Hardy and more have come together to pay tribute to the legend. You can check out some of their posts below:

Watch: What Happened With Roman Reigns After (8/16) SmackDown Went Off Air

0

This week’s episode of SmackDown came live from Kia Center in Orlando, Florida and featured the Original Tribal Chief Roman Reigns in the main event.

The main event of the Blue Branded Show saw Solo Sikoa calling out the Head of The Table and Reigns came out to confront his former enforcer.

Roman got the upper hand early on and he even retrieved the Ula Fala from Sikoa. A returning Jacob Fatu however, turned things around.

The Bloodline then assaulted Roman Reigns and delivered a triple powerbomb to him on the announce desk. The show went off air with the faction standing tall.

WWE released a video on their YouTube channel in which Roman can be seen leaving the ring after the beatdown once the broadcast had ended:

SmackDown Dark Matches

https://youtu.be/pxVV8MnkY2g

This wasn’t all that happened after the show as there were two dark matches that also took place. In the first match, Sami Zayn defeated Santos Escobar.

The second match saw Gunther defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Jey Uso. The match ended in a DQ when Ludwig Kaiser interfered and Damian Priest came out to make the save.

The two teams then had a fun tag team match with a lot of crowd interaction. Priest paid tribute to The Undertaker during the bout by performing the Old School maneuver.

Damian won the match for his team after pinning Kaiser with a South of Heaven. Priest and Uso cut a promo after the bout ended to finally send the crowd home.

Trademark Filing Hints At Post-WWE Plans For Bobby Lashley & MVP

0

Bobby Lashley & MVP could soon be reunited as The Hurt Syndicate, judging by a trademark filing made earlier this week. On August 16, Bobby Lashley and MVP were both moved to the alumni section of WWE’s official website, signaling their departure from the company.

Just two days earlier, on August 14, a trademark filing was made for the term The Hurt Syndicate for use in professional wrestling and entertainment services. The filing was submitted by a company named “Totally Harmless Concept, LLC.”

This isn’t the first time this company has been linked to MVP. In 2013, “Totally Harmless Concept, LLC” also filed to trademark “MVP” when the former United States Champion began his stint with New Japan Pro Wrestling. Additionally, the company filed to trademark “Ghetto Strong Style” in 2013, a song that MVP used as his entrance theme during his time in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

On social media, MVP didn’t directly address reports of The Hurt Syndicate but did share a gif of Lashley, suggesting that the two will be working again soon.

What’s to Come?

With MVP sharing that he won’t be going back to WWE at a Bloodsport event, anticipation continues to grow as to what he and Bobby Lashley have planned next. It’s been reported that Lashley and MVP are hoping to reunite in AEW in a move that could possibly see Shelton Benjamin brought into the All-Elite promotion.

Those close to Lashley believe he will make at least an appearance in AEW and stated that he’s ready to return to TV. Lashley reportedly has interest from the fighting world, as well as from promotions in Japan. The All Mighty boasts an impressive 15-2 record in the world of MMA with six KOs victories to his name.

Lashley has been one of WWE’s top Superstars for years but now those in the company are reportedly expecting him to leave this weekend. Stay tuned to SE Scoops for all the latest on the future of the All Mighty.

WWE Hall of Famer Afa Anoa’i of the Wild Samoans Dead Aged 81

0

The wrestling world is in mourning following the passing of Afa Anoa’i Sr., who has died at the age of 81. On social media, Afa’s son Samu Anoa’i confirmed the sad news.

“It is with deepest regret that we announce the passing of my father Afa Anoai Sr. It was a peaceful transition and he was surrounded by loved ones. Please respect our privacy as we morn our father.”

Afa’s passing comes after it was falsely reported that he had died earlier this week. It was later clarified by his family that he was still “fighting” but has now passed. Afa’s passing comes two months after his brother and tag team partner Sika died at the age of 79.

The Wild Samoans

Together, Afa and Sika became one of the most legendary tag teams in all of professional wrestling with 21 recognized tag team championship reigns to their name. The Wild Samoans began competing together in Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling in 1973 and would join the World Wrestling Federation in 1979.

This first stint in the WWF saw the pair capture the World Tag Team Titles in April 1980, winning the gold from Tito Santana and Ivan Putski and later in September by defeating Tony Garea and Rene Goulet. After a year-long stint in the WWF, the Wild Samoans took their skills to Mid-South Wrestling and Georgia, but returned to the WWF in 1982.

The pair’s third reign in the WWF saw them defeat Chief Jay & Jules Strongbow in March 1983, and they would hold the gold for much of the year. Their reign would eventually end at the hands of Rocky Johnson & Tony Atlas in November, who’d become the first African-American World Tag Team Champions. The pair remained with the WWF until 1985 and would compete outside the promotion for years afterward.

For their efforts, the Wild Samoans were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007 by Samu and Matt ‘Rosey’ Anoa’i. The tag team were inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2012, again in recognition for their in-ring careers and work training future stars of the ring.

We at SE Scoops would like to share our deepest condolences to Afa’s family at this sad time.

Fanatics Fest NYC: Watch CM Punk & Gronk Kick Off Inaugural Day

0

Fanatics Fest NYC kicked off Friday from the Javitz Center and brings together some of the biggest names from the world’s top sports leagues. Several WWE Superstars are planned to make appearances which you can learn about with our handy Guide to WWE at Fanatics Fest NYC.

WWE Celebrities At Fanatics Fest NYC

WWE’s resident own Best in the World CM Punk was at today’s event, but he wasn’t alone. The former WWE & AEW World Champion presented Rob Gronkowski with a New England Patriots WWE Legacy Championship Title. Gronkowski thanked WWE for the gift and referenced his time with the company.

Gronkowski wasn’t the only notable name to receive a WWE Legacy Championship. New York Yankees’ own Derek Jeter also received a belt.

NFL legend Tom Bready was also feeling the WWE spirit at Fanatics Fest NYC as he made a Hulk Hogan-inspired entrance at the venue.

IShowSpeed may have had a painful run-in with Randy Orton earlier this year at WrestleMania, but that didn’t stop the streamer from making an entrance that would make the Viper proud.

There’s plenty to excite wrestling fans at Fanatics Fest NYC with appearances, panels, and much more announced. Stay tuned to SE Scoops for the latest from the convention.

‘Heels’ Showrunner Hopes Netflix Move Will Inspire A Third Season

0

Heels, the wrestling-themed drama series from Starz, moves to Netflix on September 25, 2023 two years after the second season finale. Show-runner Mike O’Malley is optimistic the show be ‘rebooted’ for Season 3 once a wider audience discovers the show.

The series follows Stephen Amell as Jack Spade and Alexander Ludwig as Ace Spade, playing brothers from Georgia competing against each other to be the top star of their late father’s promotion, Duffy Wrestling League.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, O’Malley shared his thoughts on Heels going to Netflix and urged fans to support it to create demand for a third season. He also notes that Amell’s upcoming role in Suits: LA could bring new viewers to the wrestling drama.

EW’s Kristen Baldwin transcribed the following quotes.

“To a person, every single person involved in this show wants to make more Heels,” said O’Malley. “The success of Suits: LA will just drive more people to watching Stephen’s work on Netflix. It doesn’t take that long to make a season of Heels. It’s very labor intensive, but there are windows of time during hiatuses to make more.”

Since its cancellation, fans have hoped it would be picked up by another network or streaming service. Netflix has a bigger audience than Starz, which can allow new viewers to watch the show for the first time.

Wrestling On Netflix

The timing of Netflix launching Heels on their platform is interesting, as WWE is set to have a Monday Night Raw stream exclusively next year. The popular streaming service is starting to enter the wrestling genre with the addition of Monday Night Raw, which will air live weekly in January 2025. The $5 billion deal is expected to add a refreshing change for the Raw brand.

Netflix also aims to attract new customers and retain those who already subscribe to the service, which, as the Associated Press reported in April, has nearly 270 million subscribers.

Heels‘ streaming on Netflix has the potential to interest wrestling fans who have yet to watch the series but are subscribing to Monday Night Raw. Regardless, fans of the series should show their support by watching it next month on the service. Netflix’s investment in wrestling and Heels viewership could push for season three, which O’Malley is hopeful for.

What AEW Can Learn From ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

0

It’s hard to believe that it’s been five years since All Elite Wrestling debuted with AEW Dynamite, and my goodness, how the landscape has changed.

AEW started as a true alternative to WWE, and while it still is, the perception of both companies has evolved dramatically since 2019. Real-life power struggles have unfolded, with both companies gaining and losing talent, both in the ring and behind the scenes—much like the shifting dynamics of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Before 2005, Marvel was a company teetering on the brink, fit for “The Void” (more on that later). But Robert Downey Jr.‘s portrayal of Tony Stark in Iron Man breathed new life into the comic book movie genre. This resurgence was further fueled by Disney’s acquisition of Marvel, a steal in hindsight. From there, Captain America swung his shield, The Hulk smashed, and Thor felt mighty (at least two out of four times). Add The Avengers films, Dave Bautista boosting Guardians of the Galaxy, and the rights to Spider-Man, and Marvel suddenly had a roster and future to be excited about.

However, that roster became oversaturated, the focus turned multi-universal, and goodwill eroded as the franchise drifted away from its core comic book fanbase. This should sound familiar to the diehard wrestling fans.

Whether your fandom began by flipping through the halftone pages of comics or trading wrestling tapes with Meltzer, making money is what both businesses are ultimately about. However, there’s always a better way to profit, and sometimes a property needs a reset. Deadpool & Wolverine seemingly did that for Marvel, both creatively and at the box office. In these challenging times for AEW, Tony Khan could learn a thing or two from this summer blockbuster.

WARNING: Spoilers for “Deadpool & Wolverine” lie ahead. Continue reading if you’d like to break the fourth wall.

Make It Make Sense.

A major plot point in Deadpool & Wolverine revolves around “timelines,” with several that Deadpool (and eventually Wolverine) must navigate. Two are the characters’ individual timelines, and one is the “sacred timeline,” which includes all the main Marvel characters (“Earth-616”). Deadpool remains part of Fox’s X-Men Universe (referred to as “Earth-10005” in the movie), but in his timeline, Wolverine is dead, having been killed in Logan seven years ago. To find a living Wolverine, Wade Wilson must travel to another universe, but he inadvertently ends up in one where Wolverine is at his worst. The two team up after a timeline operator throws them into a multi-verse purgatory called “The Void,” where they must collaborate to save (and possibly correct) their own universes.

At this point, “timeline” and “multi-verse” have become Marvel’s equivalent of the “Forbidden Door,” terms that have been used to the point of exhaustion, weaving a tangled web of complex storylines. However, if Marvel could bring Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine back to life in a sensible way within their (wait for it) “multi-verse,” then AEW should have no problem bringing clarity to their weekly programming.

Making sense of Marvel’s convoluted narrative required a team of five writers, including Ryan Reynolds, who has a deep understanding and personal investment in the character. With Shawn Levy directing and the original Deadpool writers on board, they managed to craft a coherent story. Tony Khan has mentioned what appears to be a rotating cast of people contributing creative input at AEW. On top of that, Khan is producing what amounts to two and a half feature-length “films” each week. By trusting a core group to execute a unified vision under his guidance, AEW could achieve the distinction and direction it needs. Right now, there are too many timelines in play, and the show is in desperate need of a “sacred” one.

Focus On Your Stars, Even The Forgotten Ones.

With a title as straightforward as Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel clearly understood who the stars of the film were. The movie would have fallen flat if the spotlight wasn’t squarely on Reynolds and Jackman, and AEW could benefit from a similar focus on identifying and elevating the wrestlers who drive their television product. Too much of the AEW roster has been relegated to “The Void,” which has significantly impacted the product and contributed to declining ratings.

Deadpool & Wolverine gave fans exactly what they wanted by teaming up Reynolds and Jackman in the right way, but it also brought back familiar faces to round out the ensemble. Wesley Snipes returned as Blade, Jennifer Garner reprised her role as Elektra from Ben Affleck’s Daredevil, and Channing Tatum finally debuted as Gambit after years of the Fox film being stuck in production limbo. Along with X-23 from Logan, these characters helped Deadpool and Wolverine in their battle out of “The Void.”

The film also featured numerous cameos that were used effectively to fill out the lower midcard. Tyler Mane, Kevin Nash’s former Master Blaster partner, was swiftly killed by Wolverine in his return as Sabretooth, and Chris Evans’ Human Torch was horrifically murdered by the film’s top villain, Cassandra Nova. As Kevin Sullivan would say, they “did the favor,” but those squash matches still mattered in the grand scheme of the film and arguably the entire Marvel franchise.

From its inception, AEW has struggled to make its stars feel like top-tier talent due to inconsistent booking, limited TV time, and poor positioning. With talents like Ricky Starks, Jade Cargill, Wardlow, and Ethan Page, the list of wrestlers stuck in “The Void” could go on indefinitely. Two of those names have already found greater success by jumping ship to WWE. If AEW took the time to establish a solid hierarchy, it could better position itself as the engaging alternative it was meant to be. Unfortunately, we’ve often seen a “Toad” in a prominent position over a Channing Tatum “Gambit” (no offense to Ray Park).

Make Fun Of Past Mistakes – At The Right Time.

How do you beat a bully? By not letting them see you sweat. Deadpool is notorious for breaking the fourth wall, taking jabs at everyone—Fox, Disney, even Hugh Jackman—but there’s a fine line between taking good-natured shots and coming across as petty.

Tony Khan has shown he’s unafraid to “break the fourth wall” when taking shots at WWE, but are they always the right target? What about poking fun at the tribalistic fanbase or even acknowledging the company’s own missteps? Reynolds’ Deadpool is known as “The Merc With The Mouth” for a reason, but often, the character’s sharpest barbs are directed at himself. If a Taco Bell commercial airs between an intense vignette of one of your top heels, why not make light of it the following week by having that heel eat a taco after beating Darby Allin?

AEW is still a young company, and there’s value in knowing when to take yourself seriously and when to lighten the mood. Breaking your own “fourth wall” can be a powerful tool, and fans will appreciate the nods to those paying close attention.

Vince McMahon Health: Attorney Reacts to Rumors and Speculation

0

Vince McMahon, long known for his dedication to bodybuilding and fitness well into his senior years, has recently been the subject of speculation regarding his health. YouTuber Lee Cole has claimed that McMahon’s health is rapidly declining, citing sources close to him, including his ex-wife, Linda McMahon. However, these rumors have been firmly denied by McMahon’s attorney.

On August 15, 2024, YouTuber Lee Cole posted a video alleging that Vince McMahon’s health was rapidly declining. According to Cole, this information came from a mutual acquaintance of both him and Linda McMahon, causing widespread concern among wrestling fans and media outlets.

Cole, a well-known critic of McMahon, claimed that he even received legal threats after discussing McMahon’s health publicly, further fueling the speculation.

Official Response from Vince McMahon’s Attorney

In response to these claims, Vince McMahon’s attorney, Jessica Rosenberg, issued a statement to Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics and John Pollock of POST Wrestling, firmly denying the rumors.

“Vince’s health is fine,” Rosenberg stated, adding that they were unsure of the source of these baseless rumors but wanted to make it clear that they were entirely false. This official statement was intended to quell the growing speculation about McMahon’s condition.

Recent Health Concerns and Public Appearances

While it’s true that McMahon underwent spinal surgery in July 2023, which temporarily required him to use a cane, there have been no signs of any ongoing health issues.

McMahon’s most recent public appearance was in January 2024 at the New York Stock Exchange, where he was seen alongside TKO executives. During this appearance, he looked healthy and displayed no signs of physical decline.

Legal Battles, Future Outlook

Currently, McMahon is entangled in a legal battle over sexual assault allegations made by former WWE employee Janel Grant.

Despite stepping down from his roles in WWE and selling his remaining TKO stock in April 2024, McMahon continues to make headlines, whether due to his legal troubles or ongoing public interest in his personal life.

Greatest Bryan Danielson AEW Matches (Ranked): The Final Countdown

0

As Bryan Danielson is set to challenge for the AEW Championship at All In on Sunday, August 25th, it could be the last match of his legendary pro wrestling career.

Danielson has done it all, ranging from his initial runs on the independent scenes in the US and Europe (including Butlins in England), incredible time in Ring of Honor, underdog rise to the top in WWE to his sensational run in AEW.

Here, we’ll be going over the greatest matches in Bryan Danielson’s AEW career thus far which again could come to an end at All In 2024.

6. Bryan Danielson vs Adam Page (AEW Dynamite: 01/05/2022)

After their initial time limit draw, Bryan Danielson and Adam Page faced off again in a bloody, hard-hitting rematch. The intensity was palpable as both wrestlers pushed each other to the limit. This time, Page managed to overcome Danielson, marking a significant victory in his own AEW career to that point.

5. Bryan Danielson vs Zack Sabre Jr (AEW WrestleDream 2023)

In a technical masterpiece, Danielson and Zack Sabre Jr put on a clinic of submission-based grappling, transitions, and mat wrestling. The match captivated the audience at WrestleDream with its intricate exchanges, proving that technical prowess can be as thrilling as high-flying action if done right.

4. Bryan Danielson vs Kenny Omega (AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam 2021)

Danielson’s AEW debut against Kenny Omega was nothing short of spectacular. Despite the match ending in a draw, the electric atmosphere and high-level technical wrestling made it an instant classic that left the door open for a rematch.

The crowd’s energy elevated the match, making it one of the most memorable in AEW history.

3. Bryan Danielson vs Adam Page (AEW Dynamite: Winter Is Coming 2021)

In their first encounter, Danielson and Page wrestled to a thrilling 60-minute time limit draw.

The match was a showcase of Danielson’s ability to play a heel and Page’s resilience as the top babyface champion. The non-stop action kept fans engaged throughout, solidifying it as one of the best matches in all of pro wrestling in 2021.

2. Bryan Danielson vs MJF (AEW Revolution 2023)

Danielson’s Iron Man match against MJF was a true masterpiece of storytelling between the older veteran and, quite frankly, young veteran.

Lasting over an hour, the match kept the audience on the edge of their seats with its relentless pace and dramatic near-falls.

MJF’s performance proved he’s not just a great talker but also one of the best in-ring workers in All Elite, making this match an unforgettable highlight in AEW history.

1. Bryan Danielson vs Will Ospreay (AEW Dynasty 2024)

This match between two of the world’s best wrestlers was a high-impact, fast-paced showdown and one of the greatest of the modern era, and that is why it tops our list.

The chemistry between Danielson and Ospreay was undeniable, with both men delivering jaw-dropping performances. Despite the controversial finish, the match is considered one of the finest in Danielson’s career.

John Cena Opens Up On Cancelled ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Movie

0

WWE legend John Cena wants to believe that Warner Bros. Discovery shelved “Coyote vs. Acme” for ‘right reasons.’

Cena was part of the film which was nixed back in November, despite being wrapping up the filming process and screened for some audiences. There was a speculation that the movie might be released but that was not the case. The decision of Warner Bros. drew massive criticism.

During the promotion of his new film “Jackpot!”, John Cena told TheWrap about the tough part of the movie business. He acknowledged that the director and everyone involved in the movie invested their heart and soul but it was never released.

“There’s a lot there. And everyone’s perspective is different. We don’t own the film. That’s the tough part about this business, you do have a sense of ownership because you invest heart and soul. And [director] Dave Green and everybody involved, we made what we thought was a good movie.”

The popular Hollywood actor said that he would have liked to give the movie a chance but he respects the ‘right reasons’ behind the movie being scrapped off.

“I would have liked to seen it given a chance. But I’m just one person. And if it was shelved, I would have to think that it was shelved for the right reasons and it was a good business decision. I think I would have tremendous regret and shame if I look back on the legacy of the movie and it was shelved for reasons other than that.”

“So I have to believe in the process. And I love the movie, my heart and soul is in there, but it’s somebody else’s project to do what they want with and they’ve chosen accordingly.”

John Cena returned to WWE at last month’s Money In The Bank PLE where he announced his retirement tour. Fans can also see him in Jackpot!, an action comedy directed by Paul Feig which dropped on Prime Video on Thursday, August 15th.

Kenny Omega Return Remains Up In The Air Amid Recovery

0

Michael Nakazawa has provided an update on Kenny Omega, who is working hard towards his recovery.

The Cleaner’ has been away from AEW since December last year with diverticulitis. Michael Nakazawa told Love-Spo that Omega has “diverticulitis of the large intestine” which is a serious condition that could be fatal if not properly treated. Omega has been able to do physical training but he’s not able to lift weights which he used to before. The 40-year-old wrestler has been doing physical training, and rehabilitative exercises such as walking and pool workouts. He revealed that Omega is trying to find the best training. Nakazawa said:

“He has been able to do physical training. He is still not able to lift the same weights as before, so he is trying to find the best training that he can do while incorporating rehabilitative elements such as walking and exercising in the pool, and he is working hard toward recovery. He is trying to find the best training he can do at the moment.”

Omega has a significant physical impact and he has no power in the abdomen. It’s a concern whether he will be able to perform in his condition. Thereby, there is no timeline for his comeback. Nakazawa explained:

”That’s right. Since there is no power in the abdomen to begin with, there is a concern about whether or not one can perform in such a state. The impact is physically quite strong, so you never know how it will affect your internal organs. So I can’t say anything about when he will be able to return to work.”

Earlier this year, the former AEW World Champion returned to Dynamite. However, he was brutally attacked by Jack Perry and The Young Bucks.

Omega first noticed symptoms following a match in Canada. He had severe abdominal pain that continued even after he returned to his home in Orlando, Florida. He could have landed in danger if he had delayed seeking medical attention. Omega underwent surgery in May. The doctor treated him without invasive surgery and removed about 25 cm of the affected colon.

We will now have to wait and see when Kenny Omega can make his return. We at SEScoops wish him a speedy recovery.

Drew McIntyre Reacts To Tom Brady Making Hulk Hogan Entrance

0

Drew McIntyre is seemingly not a fan of NFL legend Tom Brady, who recently walked out to the music of WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan.

Ahead of the inaugural Fanatics Fest NYC convention, Tom Brady made an appearance at the venue when WWE was setting up for the event. Brady had a fun time as a video clip on social media depicts he’s walking out to Hulk Hogan’s entrance song, ‘Real American’. However, ‘The Scottish Warrior’ wasn’t impressed. Check out his response below:

Tom Brady is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history and he is also an ardent WWE fan. He certainly proved it when he walked out to the music of ‘The Hulkster.’ Meanwhile, Drew McIntyre is coming off a victory over CM Punk at SummerSlam. However, ‘The Second City Savior’ is not done with his rival and he recently belted McIntyre.

The inaugural Fanatics Fest NYC convention, the first-ever ‘immersive sports festival’ brings together the biggest stars from WWE and the some of top pro sports leagues across the world, including the NFL, MLB, UFC, NHL and more. WWE is also one of Fanatics’ strongest brand partners.

It has been announced that WWE Superstars and Legends will participate in Photo Opportunity sessions, Autograph Sessions, stage shows, and live podcasts. The event will take place from August 16 to August 18 at the Javitz Center in New York City.

GUNTHER: ‘Randy Orton Is Great, Despite Wasting A Lot of Potential’

0

WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER has delivered some choice words for Randy Orton ahead of their collision in Berlin, Germany. Speaking to Jim Varsalone, GUNTHER spoke about the 14-time WWE World Champion and his wasted potential.

“Randy’s career is undeniable. But on the other hand, we’ve got to be honest here, he was destined to be the greatest of all time, and with all the bad decisions he made in his career and all the issues he had he still is one of the greatest. But he wasted a lot of potential and I’m not in the business of wasting potential.”

GUNTHER didn’t stop there, adding that he has exceeded expectations, while he believes the opposite is true of WWE’s Apex Predator. The two will collide at WWE Bash in Berlin on August 31. The match will be GUNTHER’s first PLE title defense as World Heavyweight Champion while Orton hopes to break an unfortunate 40-month streak at PLEs.

Randy Orton’s Bad Decisions

While he has mellowed out considerably in recent years, Orton did make plenty of bad decisions early into his wrestling career. Orton reportedly pushed Amy Weber over during a flight, after she took some ibuprofen from the men’s locker-room when dealing with an injury. This incident, among others, would result in Weber leaving WWE in 2005.

Weber is not the only woman to have spoken up about Orton’s conduct. Maria Kanellis-Bennett claimed during her shoot interview with Kayfabe Commentaries that Orton shot fireworks from his car at the vehicle containing Maria and others. It has been claimed online for years that Orton defecated in the bag of former WWE Diva Rochelle Loewen, though she has since clarified that he defaced her bag with tanning lotion and baby oil, seemingly payback for Loewen not knowing who he was when she joined WWE.

The Viper’s off-screen outbursts would result in him being sent to an anger management course in Atlanta in 2006. Despite the four-week course, Orton was sent home from a European tour a year later after causing $50,000 worth of damage to a hotel room.

Orton has faced multiple Wellness Policy suspensions, though was brought back early from a suspension in 2006 so he could feud with Kurt Angle. In August 2007, Orton was named among eleven Superstars caught up in the Signature Pharmacy scandal who had purchased performance-enhancing drugs. The Legend Killer was not suspended and would capture the WWE Championship on two occasions mere months later.

On a December 2023 edition of the ImPaulsive podcast, Orton said he was an “a**hole” during the formative years of his career, saying that his poor behavior was “armor” as he wanted others to respect him. Orton added on the podcast that he was given second, third, and fourth chances by Vince McMahon.
