The match had plenty of post-show antics that demonstrated the fun, laid-back atmosphere when the cameras aren’t rolling. As Cody made his entrance, Punk jumped into the crowd and played the overexcuberant fan of the American Nightmare. A confrontation between CM Punk and Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez before the match left Punk running in fear of the Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Once the match got underway, these antics continued. Fans chanted for Punk just as the match began, prompting Rey to make a tag to the Best in the World. Once that happened, fans immediately began chanting for Cody, prompting Punk to make the tag to the American Nightmare. Completing the trifecta, fans then chanted for Rey Mysterio and the WWE Hall of Famer was tagged in.

The referee broke out a cartwheel to eject Morgan and Rodriguez and the trio of Punk, Mysterio, and Rhodes got the win after a trifecta of finishers on Carlito. After the match, the three spoke about competing in Glasgow while Rhodes and Punk paid tribute to Rey Mysterio.

In one of the most shocking upsets in collegiate wrestling history, Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson fell to Wyatt Hendrickson in the NCAA heavyweight championship match on March 22. Hendrickson edged out Steveson 5-4, handing the top-seeded, undefeated star his first collegiate loss since 2019 and ending his pursuit of a third national title.

Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Steveson addressed the unexpected loss and offered perspective on his return to the mat after leaving college wrestling in 2022.

“I’m not happy with the result that happened this past weekend,” he said. “But it’s a blessing to go out there in front of the crowd, in front of the biggest stage… I’ve always wanted to go out there and give one last good push for the University of Minnesota.”

Steveson’s comeback was one of the most talked-about stories of the season, and his undefeated run made him a heavy favorite entering the tournament. Despite the stunning loss, he embraced the moment and praised the level of competition.

“I love the show, I love going out there and feeling the jitters, having your heart race, and having a great opponent across from you. Win or loss, the road doesn’t end for me, and I keep going forward,” he said.

While visibly disappointed, Steveson maintained the showman persona he’s long been known for, stressing that respect for the sport and his opponent comes first.

“Win or lose, like I said, I’m always a showman. I go out there, and I turn the crowd up, I show love. If a guy gets his hand raised across from me, it’s respect as always,” he said. “The doors are still opening, and I’m just so happy where I am today and where the future’s going to take me.”

Reflecting further, Steveson made it clear he views the loss not as a failure, but as part of the journey.

“It just wasn’t my time, and I’m cool with that,” he said. “There’s nothing wrong with not having your day… I’ve gone out there and won Olympic gold at the last second. I’ve won two Dan Hodge trophies at heavyweight, which no one else has ever done. Two national titles, three-time in the finals, five-time All-American. My resume stands for itself.”

Steveson concluded with a nod to the physical and mental demands of wrestling and his place in the sport’s legacy.

“It happens. It’s a gladiator sport, and I’m a warrior.”

Filed on March 24, 2025, the bill outlines the use of funds to study the potential for a hall of fame that would recognize the sport’s cultural significance and its deep roots in the state. The museum, tentatively titled the “Ric Flair Hall of Fame” or “Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame,” would pay tribute to Flair’s enduring impact and the many wrestling figures connected to North Carolina.

The project would be overseen by the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, with the research phase serving as a foundation for future decisions. North Carolina’s long-standing association with professional wrestling, coupled with Ric Flair’s iconic status, makes the state a strong candidate to host such an institution.

Flair, widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, has enjoyed a storied career spanning over five decades. WWE Reportedly Planning Fatal 4-Way Title Match at WrestleMania 41

WWE is reportedly planning a major multi-person match for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 41. Bron Breakker is currently scheduled to defend his title against Penta on the March 24 edition of Monday Night Raw. Penta, who remains undefeated in singles competition since joining WWE in January, has quickly emerged as a top contender.

The timing of this match was surprising, as it was initially expected to be part of the WrestleMania card rather than taking place on television. Despite this, a new report indicates that ‘Breakker vs. Penta’ will still be part of WrestleMania in a larger title bout.

The Match

According to Fightful Select, WWE’s working plan as of March 17 is to feature a Fatal-Four-Way Match for the Intercontinental Championship. The current lineup includes Breakker, Penta, Finn Balor, and Dominik Mysterio.

It remains unclear who will hold the championship heading into WrestleMania. The report notes that WWE’s plans are subject to change and nothing has been finalized.

Breakker has held the Intercontinental Championship since defeating Jey Uso on October 21, 2024.

Elijah Holyfield, son of boxing legend Evander Holyfield, made his WWE debut on December 10, 2024, during a taping for the upcoming reality show WWE LFG (Legends & Future Greats). He faced Anthony Luke in a non-televised match that took place ahead of a live NXT episode.

After initially making his debut in December 2024, Holyfield is now set to make his singles debut in front of a live audience during the Sunday, March 23, 2025 episode of WWE LFG, where he will represent The Undertaker’s team against Anthony Luke from Booker T’s team.

Background

Elijah Holyfield is a 27-year-old former NFL running back who played college football at the University of Georgia. After going undrafted in 2019, he had stints with the Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Cincinnati Bengals. His football career ended following a knee injury in the summer of 2022.

WWE confirmed Holyfield’s signing in November 2024, less than a month before his initial in-ring debut. He participated in a WWE tryout in July 2024 before officially joining the company.

Earthquake and Typhoon are Officially WWE Hall of Fame Bound

WWE has confirmed that The Natural Disasters—Earthquake (John Tenta) and Typhoon (Fred Ottman)—will be inducted into the Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Known for their imposing size and dominance in the early 1990s, the tag team left a lasting legacy in professional wrestling.

Formed in late 1990, The Natural Disasters captured the WWE Tag Team Championship in 1992 and held the titles for 85 days. During their reign, they faced top teams such as Money Inc., The Legion of Doom, and The Nasty Boys.

Earthquake, who passed away in 2006 from cancer at age 42, had a background in sumo wrestling and found success in Japan before his WWE run. Typhoon, still active at 68, previously competed under the name Tugboat and was a heavyweight champion in Championship Wrestling from Florida. He is also the uncle of current Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

They join an already notable Hall of Fame class that includes Triple H, Michelle McCool, and Lex Luger. Kamala is also being considered for induction, though not yet officially announced.

The 2025 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on Friday, April 18, at the BleauLive Theater inside Fontainebleau Las Vegas during WrestleMania 41 weekend.

Drew McIntyre believes it’s only a matter of time before WWE hosts WrestleMania in the UK. In a recent interview, the former WWE Champion emphasized his long-standing support for bringing the event to British soil and dismissed any notion that others, including John Cena, should be credited for the idea.

Interest in a UK-based WrestleMania has grown in recent years. Cena raised the possibility during a surprise appearance at Money in the Bank 2023 in London, while London Mayor Sadiq Khan has included the event in his reelection campaign promises. The record-setting AEW All In event at Wembley Stadium further demonstrated the UK’s viability for major wrestling shows.

Speaking to The Daily Star, McIntyre said he has always believed such an event was possible:

“These days, I have a very different mindset than what I used to have, in that anything and everything is possible. It’s not just that there’s going to be a big show in the UK at some point. I believe there is going to be a WrestleMania.”

He also made it clear he was among the first to push for the idea.

“If you want your headline, John Cena tried to claim credit for it when we came to London a couple of years back. I said it first that there would be a Mania in the UK before Cena started running around trying to take credit,” McIntyre said. “Drew McIntyre said it first because I know it’s going to happen eventually.”

As WWE continues expanding internationally, a UK WrestleMania appears increasingly likely.

The groundwork for this potential clash has been laid through recent developments: Breakker’s match against Baor, Penta’s direct challenge to the champion, and Mysterio’s ongoing attempts to recruit Penta into Judgment Day, alongside his apparent interest in the title during the Breakker-Balor contest.

WrestleMania 41 is set to take place over two nights, Saturday, April 19, and Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, WWE’s creative landscape remains highly fluid, with plans frequently evolving. While the reported four-way match remains a strong possibility, the final WrestleMania 41 card could still see adjustments as storylines develop.
